Ever faked a relationship with a total stranger for a game show? Just me?
I signed up for “The Love Trials” FOR A DARE. I never expected to be chosen! It’s a couples show and I’m super single.
But I did get chosen. Now I’m in a beautiful Scottish castle and sharing a bed with Ronan, who is the sexiest man I’ve ever seen.
Together, we have to fool the other contestants that we’re a couple in love. Oh––and complete some of the craziest challenges I’ve ever seen! Escape rooms. Deadly mazes. All the while being thrown shocking twists along the way.
I’m in way too deep but I want to win that cash prize and Ronan needs it more than I do. And now…I just need Ronan.
Can a fake relationship on a gameshow lead me to Mr. Right and my happy ending?
Laura writes sweet romance and fantasy with steamy kisses, thrilling suspense, and mystery.
A self-confessed Potterhead and Once Upon a Time fan. Laura marries her love of 1990's romcoms with her obsession with Pretty Little Liars and writes fast-paced books written especially for readers who need an escape.
Laura Burton is a British author who lives in Wiltshire, England with her three wild sons, alpha-male husband, and positively loopy Poochon.
Very fun! Reality show style where fake turns real. Nice pacing, flirty banter, kissing and happily ever after. The perfect romantic diversion today. Sweet romance.
3.5 stars - This was a super quick and fun story. Melissa was hilarious and I loved her internal monologue. Ronan and Melissa had such great chemistry. I loved their banters and how much they teased each other. They both flirted with each other relentlessly and I couldn’t get enough of it.
There was a helicopter scene that was a bit weird and cringy IMO. I didn’t understand either Melissa’s or Ronan’s actions and wished they spent some time clearing up what happened. I thought the “I love you” came a bit too quickly and some scenes that could have been used to create more character development seemed rushed. Nevertheless, the plot was enjoyable and I liked this story.
-“ I’m a small-town girl. Stuck in a job I don’t like, working for a boss who hates me. My life is insanely dull. If it wasn’t for my bestie, Elsie. My days would be monotonous. And in my town, bachelors––correction––sexy bachelors are in short supply. I’ve never seen one up close. Not even at the local swimming pool... It may be easy to pretend I like this guy. But acting comfortable around him, even when he’s standing two feet away from me, will be difficult. Besides, by the end of this, I’m pretty sure there will be nothing left of me but a puddle on the floor. Let the shenanigans begin.“-
Absolutely loved this book! Gina Ardito wrote a similar story years ago and since then I’ve been an absolute sucker for these types of storylines. Very well written, very romantic, and clean.
“Intanto inizio ringraziando l’autrice per aver scritto questa storia e la Royal Books Edizioni per averlo pubblicato e quindi abbiamo l’opportunità di leggerlo. Grazie 😘 ”
Recensione

Ah, no?
"Love in the Spotlight" is a delightful stand-alone book by Laura Burton. She captures the essence of a good and clean rom-com. The plot is highly enjoyable, and so are the main characters. Melissa Jones has had a tough life, but that doesn't stop her from wearing her heart on her sleeve. She's prudent but also has a great sense of humour. What drew me to Ronan is his ability to be vulnerable and express his emotions. Laura has created an intriguing male protagonist, layered with an underlying sense of calm and authenticity. Their instant chemistry and playful banter is off the charts and makes their bond unique. I found the Epilogue to be slightly rushed, but apart from that it is a fun, light read and I devoured it in two sittings.
I received an ARC copy of this book, and this honest review is posted voluntarily.
Melissa is our protagonist who, as a dare from her best friend, applies as a contestant on her favourite reality TV show Love Trials. However what's interesting here is the fact that she's single but still got selected for the show. There she meets Ronan who's going to be her fake boyfriend for the show.
I do like reality TV show plots, although this is the second one that I have read so far. But I'm still undecided if you ask me to rate it on a scale of 1-10. Though, I seriously devoured it. Especially because of my excitement to see what's next. The chemistry between them could be seen easily inspite of the fact that it was kinda an insta-love story.
I received an arc in exchange for an honest review!
What happens when you mix a mostly faked reality television show with real-life emotions - things start to get pretty real...
In a uncharacteristic moment, Melissa signs up for a stint on a popular "couples only" reality t.v. show as a bet with her bestie. When she gets selected and set-up with hunky electrician, Ronan, as her fake-boyfriend for the show, she decides that their are worse things than spending the next few weeks snuggling up on camera with him.
The more they get to know each other, the more sparks fly, and pretty soon the line between real and fake is pretty blurry.
What I liked about this quick, light and fun read was the way the characters built their relationship with a series of moments and conversations that established trust between them and ultimately lead to their shared affection. What I struggled with was the over-the-top tragic back-stories for the two MCs. They felt forced and their unbelievability took me out of the story more than a few times while reading.
Fake relationship stories aren't my favorite because of the lies, deception, and mistrust involved, but I try not to let my bias influence how I rate a book.
I felt like Ronan's character was all over the place and somewhat inconsistent. They were both so hot and child to each other.
There were a few typos, and I'm not talking about British spelling versus American spelling.
I felt like the author did a nice job of leading from chapter to chapter. I'd tell myself to stop at a chapter to get some things done, but hardly recognize I'd already started the next chapter.
Content: there is kissing in this book, as well as checking out each other's bodies. I didn't feel like it was crass at all, but it's there. There are no "bedroom" scenes, though the couple share a bedroom through the whole story.
🏰Ronan and Melissa are both from Bristol, and have entered a reality TV show with happy couples set in a Scottish castle complete with several challenges and a happy ending walking down the aisle.
🚁One catch, our couple don’t know each other although they both have their eye on the one hundred thousand pound prize. She wants to move to London and set up her own business, Ronan is keeping quiet about his reasons.
💕The undeniable chemistry between the pair is there, but can they both admit to their feelings.
📚I have had this book on my Kindle for so long, it was time for a read and clean up the TBR list. The pace was slow, the challenges were scary but thankfully our intrepid couple are able to emerge victorious and in the end we get their HEA.
A GREAT Rom/Com with excitement, drama, humor and, of course, Romance!!
This was another Rom/Com that really deserves many more than 5 Stars! Melissa and Ronan are thrown together on a Reality Show that reads like it could have actually happened. When reading it YOU will feel all the emotions the writer wants you to feel, happiness, burgeoning love, angst as the coupe go through the challenges on the Show. Then you will feel the sadness, the disappointment of their breakup, and, finally you will...well, I guess I can't 'go there' without spoiling the ending, so I'll stop and let you read it for yourself. ENJOY!!!
I truly enjoyed this new book by author Laura Burton. The story grabbed me in the first pages and kept me reading until the last page! The characters were off the pages funny at times and tender caring at others. I am not a fan of reality t.v. in the slightest, but this was told in such a manner that the story just flowed from one setting to the next. I would recommend this book if you enjoy good, sweet romance. Surprise ending! 😍
I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest, and completely personal review. VICKI FROM WYOMING
This was a fun feel good romantic comedy of sorts. Who knew being part of a reality tv show would come with so much pressure but also the chance to find the love of your life. Someone you have been searching for but didn’t know you needed until you more or less fall at their feet.
What prevails is a whole load of challenges set to either make or break them. What will be their outcome?
All I can say is you are really going to enjoy this, so have fun.
I received this as a complimentary copy and I am giving my honest review
This was a fun rom com. The setting took place as a reality TV show, but it really worked. It was funny, sweet, emotional and a bit steamy. (Make you hot under your skin, steamy) How they were able to sleep in the same room/bed and refrain from anything more than kisses, made my heart tingle. (PG-13) There was a twist at the end that surprised me and made me love the story even more! I enjoyed the characters of Melissa and Ronan. The were fun and complimented each other right from the start. This is a quick easy read, maybe a little rushed at the end. Give it a go and have fun with it.
This book had me laughing and swooning and laughing again. It had a rom-com feel to it which I really enjoyed, but also a lot of heart. The end broke my heart but only for a moment, then it healed right back up. Laura is such a wonderful storyteller, I have enjoyed all of her books but this one has been my favorite so far. Melissa is a relatable character and Ronan is super dreamy. And their chemistry was spot on! If you're looking for a lighthearted romance that will play like a movie in your mind, look no further. This is it.
This is the first book that I have read from this author and I am sure I will read more of her books. The story has been written in first person from Melissa’s point of view. The characters have been developed in such a way that we got know them little by little as the story proceeded. I really wanted to know a bit more about both of them. The conversation between the characters is realistic and I could actually visualize some of the scenes. And the reality show ensured that I could not keep the book down as I really wanted to know what happened next. A must must read.
This is the first book I have read by Sarah Burton. It was funny, romantic, and a page turner. I really enjoyed how the story began with Melissa. I started off laughing right away at her sense of humor and clumsy ways. It was fun to see how she met Ronan before they ended up as a fake couple on the reality show, Love Trials. I enjoyed the couple challenges and the twists and turns that the author created. I could not put the book down! I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
I love Clean romance about reality TV! I had enjoyed the Sariah Wilson books with this trope, and Laura Burton has just sealed my dedication as an unabashed fan. I may not like watching this on tv, but reading about it...Wow! I loved the fairy tale of it all as Mel and Ronan work through obstacles together: trust, mazes, and real-world issues exacerbating the gravity of their choices. This story was so very sweet, fun, sexy, heart-touching, and exciting! I received an ARC copy of this book and I am leaving a voluntary review.
This book had me laughing out loud right away! The opening scenes were so funny and well written. The comedy factor through out the book was good. The first half of the book was 4 stars and the second half was 3. I felt like it became super rushed and there was this urgency that it needed to wrap up quickly. I think the book would of been so much better if the author would of slowed the pace down that second half and let the characters/story breath a bit more.
I have to say I started this book like 3x and kept putting it to the side for another one. And by start I mean picked it up and read 3 pages. I am so sorry I did that! Seriously non of the books I choose over this rated as high to me. I absolutely loved this cute, funny, made my cheeks hurt from smiling book. Mel is this utterly lovable, clumsy woman who wears her heart out in the open. Ronan was this sensitive, put others first type man. Together they made the most adorable couple. Absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read more from this author.
It was funny, with swoony kisses and yet at times, serious, as we eventually learn why Ronan joined the Love Trials.
Melissa was so quirky and funny, while Ronan was gentle and caring for others…what a lovely mix!
This story will cheer you up and bring a smile (or more than one!) to your face! It also remained clean even though the main characters could’ve crossed lines with the bedroom arrangements.
Recommended! Please read as it will brighten up your day!
“Love in the Spotlight” by Laura Burton I was looking for something a little different than what I usually read _ _ _ and this was it. A truly laugh out loud romantic comedy that never quite does what you expect. I received an ARC of this story from the author with the hope that I would post a review. I enjoyed my time in this story and if the book blurb caught your eye, then I think you will enjoy reading this story. Happy Reading ! !
This book was a fun, short read about two people who did not know each being thrown together on a reality show for couples. Both of them have their own reasons for being on the show and love isn't one of them. These characters are well crafted and have a great chemistry. I enjoyed their actions and and reactions. This is a good read
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved all the twists and turns of the story. It was funny, had me laughing out loud, and I just couldn’t put it down. I’m not a reality TV person myself so I loved how this let you see beyond the glamour and lights into the awkwardness and how things get swept up in the moment. I loved that it wasn’t a cookie cutter book just turning out what you expect to happen story. Great fun! Rating: G, a clean fun adventure.
Too good for words! At first I wasn't sure about this book, but damn...by the end, I was in tears.
Laura Burton hit all the sweet notes. Not sure if this book is considered a Rom-Com, but it had all the aspects with the most perfect HEA ending. You will enjoy Melissa and Ronan's story. I'd give more stars if I could but 5 stars is max.
Love me in the sport light is a stand-alone in the Be My Fake Fiance series and can out of order.
I truly enjoyed this novella. I never laughed so hard when I read the start of chapter 2. The book is fun to read, and once started I couldn't stop until finished. I really felt for the main characters. I second guessed the Island of Love, and couldn't stop laughing after Ronan went into the bathroom. This book keep me thinking how I would have reacted had I been one of the characters. I think that is why I liked it so much.
This book had a pretty fun overall plot idea and, admittedly, I would probably have a blast watching a rom com with the same general outline.
Unfortunately, this book also suffers from a plethora of excessively cheesy lines, irritating miscommunications, bland characters, and extremely poor pacing. Let’s just say, I really hate when I find myself editing plot points in my head while reading a book and I found myself doing it far too often with this novel.
When I started reading this story, I could not put it down. I read the book in one day. This author is an awesome writer. I can not wait to read more of their books. Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I don't watch reality TV shows but they sure can make a good plot for books! Though the first few chapters were a little disjointed and confusing, things settled out after that and I enjoyed the rest of the book. There were so many unexpected plot twists that it kept the book exciting until the end. Overall, a solid 3.5 stars - a fun, easy read for a fan of contemporary romance!
I received this book free and I am voluntarily doing a review. Great cover! I lived loved reading how they get their amazing love story. The author has great writing style that just grabbed my attention from the start. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Easy-to-readEntertainingGreat world buildingHappily Ever AfterOriginalPage-turnerRomanticWonderful characters
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. I completely fell in love with these characters! They were so quirky and REAL after they are thrown together as a couple on a reality tv show. Their attraction for each other becomes one awesome whirlwind to developing feelings. This was a fantastic read.
