How far will a Reaper go to regain everything he’s lost?
Haleck Cain fights free of a failing life pod only to learn the space station he doesn’t recognize is in a degrading orbit. Battling for basic survival, he quickly realizes nothing is as it should be. He’s alone, damaged, and surrounded by new enemies.
Ten years have passed and the civilization he helped build is in ruins.
Cain’s search for his friends will take him to the most dangerous parts of Maglan and reveal a secret he never suspected. By the time he has true enemies in his sights, he will know who he really is and what it means to be the last Reaper.
This book is essentially a reset of the reaper saga. The book jumps around 15 years and has Cain waking up in an 'egg' and being reborn. The story continues as Cain attempts to reassimulate with his LAI and discover what happened in the interim. Everything we thought we knew maybe a lie..... Cloning on a large scale is prominent and old friends need to be persuaded of the veracity of Cain. There are several battles, though typically without augmented tech (at least on Cain's side).
You sure know how to mess with our minds! Another winner from a great writing team! Non stop action of a man trying to prove himself to others and himself. It’s early on October 24th, but Amazon hasn’t released the finale, BLOOD OF THE REAPER yet! I can’t wait to get it!!!
Is thoroughly enjoyed this new book and the Reaper series for series. There was a definite twistyness at the beginning. That I absolutely thoroughly enjoyed.. Can't wait to see what happens in book 12 and see how the last Reaper kicks butt takes names and saves orphans!
Don’t get me wrong, I like this series. I liked this book. I’m going to keep reading because I like where the story is headed. I just felt that there were several times when the author(s) seemed to lose sense of where the characters were currently located. (Example, Cain loses his weapon, climbs to another level and then tries to get the weapon by looking nearby.) it want a big distraction but it was noticeable. For reference, I almost never give 5 stars. A 4star rating is great for me and a 3 means it was good but could have been better with a little bit of editing or better review by the beta readers.
I like this series so much. Chaney changed it up this time with a clone story. And poor Hal just keeps getting beaten up and shot up and the only reason he survives is that he's a fictional character!
Tom Taylorson has these characters down and is a fantastic narrator. I'm starting to listen to more of his catalog because of his narration of this series.
I can't wait for the next book on audio. This is such fun.
Well, I was loving this series up until now. Spoilers ahead. This book was like a totally different series. It picks up ten years after the last book with Cain’s new home having been destroyed by multiple new bad guy’s, Cain is dead, and there is a new Cain who is apparently the original Cain who all the clones were made from including the hundreds trying to kill him in this book. He eventually meets up with older versions of Bug, Tom and Path who all want to kill him because they think he is another one of the murderous clones that have been attacking and killing everyone on the planet. So by the end of this book we have Cain who apparently is the original with all his body parts who unbelievably has to have his arm amputated due to an injury. He is reunited with older versions of Path, Bug, Tom and they find Jelly. Now they are off to find Elise. It feels like they had originally decided to end the series with the last book where everyone is done fighting, has a new home to settle into and everyone lives happily ever after. Then they decided to continue the series in the most bizarre way possible.

Back to the roots! This book was great from start to finish, i was getting tired of the 'im saving the whole galaxy' thing and leading ships and such, it just not our reaper style, this one reminded me of the start of the series and it was great. The realization of what actually happened to Hal made me sad and questioning of everything that happened so far. Really looking forward to the next one when it comes out. Also really itching to see what happened to BP, i liked that psychotic people yeeting ai.
Haleck Cain, the Reaper has been locked in a life pod for a very extended period of time. The life and worlds he knew have drastically changed. And not for the good. Ten years was lost locked in a pod. His biopic eye and an artificial arm that doubles as a weapon is gone. Now rogue clone reapers terrorize the population. They are the exact opposite of Cain, the last reaper. He must reunite with old friends and convince them he is the last reaper. An excellent read!!
The author has taken things in a new direction I didn’t expect. Ten years after the last book we find Cain in a confusing situation where it is unclear not only where he is but who he is as well! It then seems like several major wars have been fought on Maglan and he doesn’t know where his friends or family are either. Of course, in true reaper fashion he then works to solve things with sheer determination & outright stubbornness as usual.
The whole series is a Mish mash of action humour and introspection This one was all of that but more of the latter and less of the action. The humour was previlant throughout HAL is trying to come to grips with the situation he wakes up in and the planet hates him from the moment they see him Hoping the series comes to an end soon, I think it has run its course and needs a finale
If you have read the Reaper series, this is a must read. 10 years gave passed and not for the better. Hal awakens to find himself changed and with no X. He must survive everyone trying to kill him and find out what happened to his team of friends and family.
This was actually a decent reboot/reset of the Cain character. A solid 3 stars, could have been 4, but the HC's became a running joke halfway through the book. It's still amazing hot the author(s) keeps putting Cain through impossible odds only to succeed at the last minute. But i am curious the
I so enjoyed this particular book due to the changing circumstances. Against all odds, Cain survived and even thrived. To read that he keeps almost dying, and in the last segment, he does die for 5 minutes . Why, that is intense! An edge of your seat thriller! Can't wait to read what happens next.
I figured that the newest Reaper book would carry on the tradition of great reading, I didnt expect to be so sucked into the next chapter of Hal's life. I wish I didn't have to wait for the next installment .
Just when you thought the Reaper had retired, they suck him back in! A very good storyline that sucks you in along with Hal! This story keeps you engaged!
I've read the entire series and now with this awesome reboot I'll be sure reading all of the future ones to come. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to where it will go from here. Thanks for bringing him back.
Appreciated the reboot, but this one felt as if it didn't measure up to the last 10 books to me. I'm sure as things solidify, 'the band gets back together' and Cain gets his new and improved AI and arm the story will firm up.
Are we the sum total of our memories or a soul in a meat bag? Maybe we are a combination of the two. It is good to see Cain again… or is it Cain? A great sequel to the other nine sequels. Now for the next book so we can see the rest of our friends.
Happy to see the return of Cain. Almost a reboot but not really. Just needs more fill in. Like what happened to all his ships and army and commands? Need more back fill
There wouldn't be more books if the series wasn't still good. Who is the last reaper? We may find out in this book. Hal picks up more strays and fights more enemies and it thoroughly entertaining escapism.
Hal is at it again, with a twist. I can't wait until the next book comes out to see how many more times he gets his a$$ kicked before everyone believes him.
