Adelaide Coventry has her entire life planned out for her. From her daily schedule to the person she is going to marry: Greysen Cromwell, a flirtatious prince who she can't stand. They have never gotten along – Adelaide much preferring books to Greysen's company, and Greysen preferring to spend his nights partying with countless courtiers.
When a month-long celebration called the Fest of Bliss begins, Greysen is forced to invite his betrothed to join. Little does Adelaide know this will change her life forever.
On her way to the Cromwell palace, she has an encounter with a Fortuneblood – someone possessing the gift of magic. Fortunebloods have been banned from Adelaide's world for hundreds of years, ever since a terrible war sent them into hiding. But now, unbeknownst to her, they are after Adelaide.
Adelaide has never been one to question her reality, but she can't deny the strange things that keep happening to her, making her wonder if her life is really as simple as she believed. When she finds out a long-buried truth that may cost her head, Adelaide has to fight to keep it hidden at all costs, finding unexpected allies and new enemies along the way.
Loved the world building and how the characters interacted with the world. The characters were amazing and especially loved Addy. Addy was quite interesting and I loved being introduced to other people such as Greysen and Matias
COMPLETELY hooked to the story and the characters.
This is a YA/NA fantasy, with a unique twist on the witch/witch-hunter stories. In this book, Fortune-Bloods (aka the magic wielders) have been hunted almost to the brink of extinction. Still, now and then the rare Fortune Blood shows up, and if found, they are executed in horrifying ways.
This book mainly follows Adelaide, a princess, and her arranged fiancé, Greysen, the prince of a neighbouring kingdom. It's an understatement to say that they HATE each other. When circumstances force Greysen to invite Adelaide to his kingdom for a festival (that celebrates the death of Fortune Bloods), she grudgingly accepts and departs. On the way there, she has an unexpected encounter with a Fortune Blood. And that encounter changes her entire life.
This book did not have even a single boring moment. It is narrated in third person from the pov of multiple people, and pretty much every pov was unique and interesting. There are many relationships and friendships that evolve over the book, and the reader will pretty much root for most of them. There's also queer rep, the main ones being Greysen who's bi, Layla who's gay, and other secondary characters who are queer, whose storyline and relationships we have yet to see. And OF COURSE, it ended on a kind of cliffhanger 😭 very anxiously awaiting book 2 :))))
(This is also available on Kindle Unlimited, so go check it out!)
4.5 ⭐️ This book grabbed my attention as soon as I started reading it. I don’t remember the exact moment I fell so deep into the story I forgot where I was but once I got to the last page, without knowing, I kept clicking my Kindle screen to continue before realizing there wasn’t anything left to read. Then, disappointment hit because I was caught off guard with how far I had actually disappeared into the story of Adelaide and Greysen. This story gives you action and romance and lust and wonder.
Greysen seemed cold and miserable at first and just about the time I decided I hated him, did I then witness a whole other side to him that made me love him? And Adelaide. The stubborn little girl. Boy, did she blossom into such a strong female character that it was nearly impossible not to feel empowered by her and more confident.
I strongly recommend this book as it took me out of my reality completely and left me wanting more.
This was so good! I love the characters, this book has great character and world building as well as an interesting magic system. I was intrigued from the very first chapter, Light Crown and Adelaide really draw you in right from the start and never let you go. I was sad when it was over because I'm going to need the next book. That ending!!
Multi POV which adds to the story. I like that a lot of the story was focused on the main character Adelaide and her development and self discovery. There are some really funny parts I thought were really clever and made me laugh. I love that she's independent and a little feisty with a mind of her own.
Nice pacing and use of popular ya fantasy tropes. Definitely pick this one up!!
I was sent this by the author for an honest review. I really liked this story, the world building and magic system was interesting to discover. I enjoyed reading about all the characters including the side characters, every one had a personality and story I wanted to learn about. I was invested in Adelaide's and the interactions between Adelaide and Greyson had me laughing at times and frustrated at others and I need to see how their storyline ends. This book is available on Amazon now.
This was an intriguing read. The author did a wonderful job world building and introducing all the characters. I was first grabbed by the cover. It’s stunning and pulled me in and was just as grabbed by the story itself.
This was a great read. Definitely pick this one up!
This story takes place after a war that was to eradicate all Fortunebloods. Addy or Adelaide, is betrothed to Greysen, prince of a neighboring kingdom, to align together. She is invited to Greysen’s palace for the Fest of Bliss. She will be stuck there for a month and is not looking forward to it. While there, though, she learns more about who Greysen is as a person and his younger brother Matias, who she viewed as a friend, and how different they are from what she expected. She also learns more about herself and why she suffers from an ailment and who(or what) she really is.
Okay first off, this book immediately made me think of the movie A Knight’s Tale! The humor and how it’s a mix of medieval ages with modernity was exactly like A Knight’s Tale. It threw me off at first because I was super confused wondering why they spoke the way they did, but the whole book was that way, and I just figured it’s similar to the style of A Knight’s Tale with the modernity mixed with medical times and the interesting humor in it. It’s a very different style for a fantasy I will say 😁
I think the author did a great job with the world! There are four different kingdoms filled with Medians(or people who do not wield magic) and sometimes a Fortuneblood(a magic wielder) will pop up since they can still come about since magic is not inherited genetically, some are just born with magic that develops at a young age. There’s also many different kinds of Fortunebloods, such as Lightwielders, they handle many different elements. My only qualm with the people in the world is that I got the impression that there are absolutely no sympathizers for Fortunebloods and I mean like none, aside from Greysen who is too cowardly to go up against his father(which I get, he’s psycho) but no one seems to be willing to help, not even their own family members. And the Fortunebloods goal is to be unified with Medians in peace, but not sure how that could happen when no one seems to sympathize with them.
Now the characters, I never really connected with any of them. Which is a bummer since I love connecting with characters. I enjoyed the world, but the characters were a bit of a bummer for me. It was all about the royals in this story, which is new for me since it seems that there is usually someone who is not a royal at some point, but not in this book(aside from the Forunebloods).
I really did not like Adelaide. She is definitely spoiled and acts like it. Some may enjoy the way she is in this story, I just am not a fan of spoiled people who make life all about them. And Well, actually all the royals acted like that. None of them seemed to care about the people except for Greysen, and sometimes Adelaide she would remember meeting peasants in towns but then she’d forget once she had some drama going on in her life. I did love Adelaide’s relationship with her brother Calvin. That was adorable and they’re obviously very close.
Ultimately, I adored Greysen. He is a very caring person with a big heart, he just hides it with his notoriety of being a rake and being a prince. I was confused when he would claim to be falling in love with Addy and yet he would still eye other courtiers and think about sleeping around still even though he’s potentially falling in love with someone else? I don’t know, I don’t call that love personally. And some of his actions and decisions towards the end of the book confused me when he seems to be a sympathizer. Other than that, he was definitely the best character and my personal favorite!
I’m confused about the romance. There were hints of it, but I don’t actually know where it’s going. I’m assuming the next book will expound on it and potentially change, I’m not sure.
Overall, it’s a good story. It was very slow throughout the book, but I don’t mind that especially when the story focuses a lot on learning about each individual pivotal character and how everyone acted when it came to the Fortunebloods and how the Fortunebloods that are alive how they were as people. The last I want to say 1/3 of the book was very intense and fast since things are discovered and just escalated very quickly. If you love fantasy, and fantasies with royals and their families and drama, and a hint of magic and romance, then I’m sure you’ll love this book! Thank you to the author for a free digital copy to read 🥰
If you love fantasy adventures, there is so much you will love about Light Crown. It has the fundamental story of forbidden magic and those Magic-wielders or Fortunebloods, trying to avoid discovery and a torturous death . There is the all powerful King who delights in eradicating any of these 'creatures' and those 'creatures', just trying to survive.
There is the magical world of Asteria and it's four Kingdoms, ruled by Kings and Queens with their Princesses and Princes. There are dungeons and secrets, lords, ladies and castles. There is the Good Vs Evil saga, but who is who, is sometimes not what you think. There is the usual power struggle, those who want to take over the ruling of the Kingdom, murder and treachery and there is romance. All these elements come together in the imaginative world of Light Crown.
We are introduced to the medieval Asteria and it's four Kingdoms through Adelaide Coventry, her Brother, Calvin, her betrothed, Greyson Cromwell and his brother Matias. Adelaide is the Princess of Ticasia, Greyson the Prince and heir to the throne of Gwendale. As the story progresses and we get to know these characters, they become so much more than who they first appear. Both Adelaide and Greyson have very different sides, than those shown to their public. They are both not as superficial as their first impressions make them out to be.
Adelaide and Greyson have been promised to each other, from birth. With their marriage, they will unite their two Kingdoms. Greyson is the playboy, prince about town and Adelaide, is suppose to be the prim, proper and pure princes, whose life is all planned out for her. She seems to struggle with this a lot. Adelaide is a excellent main character. She lives in a world of submissive woman, who should be seen, but not heard. Adelaide is a strong willed princess, with very different ideas of how a woman should behave and be treated. She has a secret, that even she doesn't know about, that will prove, she is far stronger and capable than others believe. This secret, will change her life dramatically.
Greyson is not like his domineering Father. We get to see him in a very different way, as his character grows and his true nature is revealed. I enjoyed taking the journey along with Adelaide and Greyson. Their relationship certainly takes some twist and turns and I am very interested in how it will further develop in the next book.
The ending of this story was filled with drama and action. It sets up the scene for the next instalment of the Light Crown saga. What will happen to Adelaide and Greyson now? Will Fortunebloods ever be able to live peacefully with Medians (non-magic people)? I am eagerly awaiting the answers and reading more of this story.
What makes this a superb fantasy story? The well developed and compelling characters who tell the tale of the Fortunebloods of Asteria and their fight to survive. It is the strong-willed, very unprincess-like princess, Adelaide and her betrothed, Prince Greyson who, despite appearing to be frivolous and superficial, turns out to be sympathetic and maybe a little heroic. This story will take you on a journey of the heart, filled with magic and drama. You will love and you will surely dislike some characters, as they take their sides in the battle between magic and non-magic.
Actually a very enjoyable read. It is not a stand alone and there is no information to my knowledge about the second book so that is a bit off putting.
dialogue and writing made my eyes want to bleed. legit bleed. maybe author should do us all a favor and go back to writing fanfiction instead of whatever the hell this is
