Rasim al Ilalio doesn't mean to cause trouble wherever he goes, but a year of disasters lies in his wake. A war is brewing, but returning home to his beloved city of Ilyara isn't an option--not until he's brought a friend home again, and has warned their people of the conspiracy he believes affects them all.
But in the distant Shenryalan steppelands, a new threat emerges: not just human scheming, but magical beasts that have slumbered for centuries are now raising their heads again...and they seem to be drawn to Rasim himself.
Every magic Rasim has learned has been a matter of personal survival. This time, though, there may be consequences that reach far beyond himself if he cannot become...
CE Murphy began writing around age six, when she submitted three poems to a school publication. The teacher producing the magazine selected (inevitably) the one she thought was by far the worst, but also told her–a six year old kid–to keep writing, which she has. She has also held the usual grab-bag of jobs usually seen in an authorial biography, including public library volunteer (at ages 9 and 10; it’s clear she was doomed to a career involving books), archival assistant, cannery worker, and web designer. Writing books is better.
She was born and raised in Alaska, and now lives with her family in her ancestral homeland of Ireland.
Taking a prince home is a good thing, yes? But, it is yet one more delay for the Ilyarians, who know war is coming to their shores. And they carry knowledge that theirs is not the only nation with active magic.
But, finding and unmasking their enemies comes much too close to home, in this outing. Not even flying a dragon can make up for the losses the Wafiya has experienced on their diplomatic journey.
Yet, hope still flickers, along with the resolve to not succumb to their enemies’ plans. Is it enough to carry them home?
C.E. Murphy continues to amazing! Usually in series the 4th book can feel sluggish but Murphy has kept me enthralled! Rounding out some additions and really playing with our perceptions through the MCs point of view. I can not wait for the final book!
