You know ... nice ... hmmm, so I love the story, the characters, the writing, the idea ...
What I absolutely don't understand is why there is zero information about the background, so the concept of soul mates is explained a bit, but somehow I still don't know anything about it.
Otherwise, sweet, really sweet. Dorian and Hayden are super nice characters who struggle with their inner beliefs and try to be considerate of each other, but unfortunately don't succeed.
Heartbreaking and then soothing. Beautiful epilogue.

“How can there be more, when you feel this good in my arms?” he said, pulling him closer.
“How can you think there can be more when you taste like this?” He pecked his lips again. And again. And again.
“How much more could there be when the thought of you close to me makes me go insane?” he said, lowering his head and kissing the soft skin just behind his ear, hearing him moan quietly.
He took his hand and placed his palm in the middle of his chest, allowing him to hear his heartbeat.
“How can there be more when this is what you do to me?” he whispered into his ear, kissing the shell of it right after his words, and Dorian caved.
🥰🫠🥰

Their core beliefs were polar opposites, and all the love in the world would never be enough to bridge that. Hayden had to be realistic. He had to let Dorian go so he could find the person he had been looking for. He had no right to take that away from him. No right to make him settle. 🥺💔🥺

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

The truth was he loved helping people. He loved connecting to them, diving into their minds and finding that one thing they so desperately wanted. He loved drawing the faces of their soulmates. He just wished he could do the same for himself.

This book sounded so interesting and I was really excited about listening to it. It is a wonderfully original story (as far as I know), and it was just as sad as I expected and then some. It has a happy ending, don’t get me wrong, but the story itself is nearly bittersweet. The idea of a world with soulmates but never being able to find yours is something I expect most of us can agree would be heartbreaking. The entire subject and the narrator’s performance just made me bawl.

Dorian is this generations ‘artist’ and draws other people’s soulmates. Sadly, because he is blind, he can’t ever draw his own soulmate. It’s a heartbreaking concept but a really beautiful love story. It’s fade to black/gray, which I don’t read a lot of, but I didn’t miss the spice with this one.

It was only a dream, but sometimes, Dorian would reach out to him, smile at him, whisper something to him, and it made that dream seem more like a vision. A glimpse of the future waiting for them if they just allowed themselves to live it.

Dorian was fast asleep in seconds, but Hayden stayed awake for hours after he drifted off, basking in the feeling of being with him, feeling like he wasn’t holding just Dorian in his arms. He was holding the entire world.

MM Romance
Soulmates
4 Stars ⭐️

A To Z Book Title Challenge: F This book has been in & out of my ku library more times than I can count. I’ve been wanting to read it for a year but kept putting it off. I was so dumb.

”Was it possible to feel like he’d never ask life for anything else? Was it crazy to think he’d been given the world in a single kiss? Hayden didn’t know. But he felt like that. As he held Dorian and kissed his lips for the first time, he felt like nothing in the world would ever compare.”

Ok, this book is a MUST read. I put this book off for so long and I just want to kick myself. This is special and I’ve never read anything like it before. This book was soft cuddles, hand holding, falling in love, tenderness and so incredibly adorable yet there were times I felt absolutely heartbroken. This is not a book to be read for it’s sex scenes because they are low to no steam, it’s a book to feel the bond between two men who are fundamentally different in what they believe but still destined to be together and there’s a bit of magic along the way.

I can’t discuss my reasons for only 4 starring this without spoiling it but part of it was the ending felt a bit rushed and I wanted more. It was worth the read though if you are looking for something different but beautiful. 💗

FACES. IS. FABULOUS. And soooo romantic 🥰

This book took me by surprise. I didn’t think this will be one of my favorite read this year.
Faces is - in my opinion- a magical reality story, everything is as in real life except The Artist. The Artist who can draw the portrait of people’s soulmates. The book doesn’t explain it, or question it, this is their normal. Dorian is the current Artist, who is blind and unfortunately never will be able to see his soulmate.
And there is Hayden, who is sweet and caring and doesn’t want to know his soulmate because he wants to be in charge of his future.

The writing is outstanding, the characters are fresh and lifelike and the romance? One of the most romantic story I ever read. This little bonus, the being of the Artist made this story so different and so much enjoyable then the other contemporary books.
Usually I need smut in my books, not so much but need some good scenes to feel the story complete. There is no sex on page, it was their first kiss what made me feel the ‘this is it’ moment. And the funny thing is, I didn’t want to read any smut with them, their intimacy was perfect.💜
I had a huge book hungover after Faces, and not because I wanted more of them. The ending was so satisfying, there is nothing more to say. After reading it I just wanted to hug the book ( e-reader) and smiling like crazy.

This is my honest review in exchange of the ARC copy.

I bought this one a long time ago when it was on sale in the Hoof & Fang shop because I love Kirt Graves as a narrator and really enjoy his world view as it comes across on the Hoof & Fang podcast as well as the H & F Patreon. At the time, I didn’t notice it was a A.M. Rose story… 😬 I’m not a fan of their storytelling so I put off listening for the longest time.

In the end, Faces met my expectations in every way:
- Graves’ narration is top notch!
- Rose’s storytelling fell flat for me in numerous ways.

In previous reviews of Rose’s books, I’ve elaborated on the ways they haven’t worked for me and/or have had problematic messaging and each time, the same GR user/Rose fan has harassed me for my perspective. It’s not anyone that I’m friends with so hopefully, this review will stay off their radar but it leaves me disinclined to say anything other than I didn’t enjoy this story and will not be reading any more from this author.

No regrets given my love of Graves’ work and happiness in supporting him 💛

Audio: 4 stars, while I love Kirt Graves, this wasn’t his best. Also the audio can be found on the Hoof and Fang website, it is on sale for yesterday and today for leap year. All their audios are $2.99!!

Book: 2.5 stars

While the concept was interesting, the execution was underwhelming. It didn’t flow was well as I thought, and everything felt surface level. We were told a lot but we weren’t seeing it on page.

This also had fade to black just and fyi, I mean some books that works but this one I didn’t even know they were gearing up to have sex until the next page we were told they did! Haha

Overall it was a good story, but maybe just my mood made it not as enjoyable…🙈😂

Faces brings a really intriguing idea to the MM world:

What happens when you can actually go to an artist to paint the face of your soulmate? What happens when that person is not good at all? And most importantly, the only way to get a portrait of that person is if you'll be able to see said person (past or future doesn't matter) so what happens to the Artist who is blind and will never see his loved one's face? Lastly, what happens when one of the main characters doesn't believe in all of the above?

What happens is this book, lovely premise and beautifully executed, lovely characters with complex emotions and issues, very warmth with each other and very lonely as well. There were a lot of important themes that were touched, disability being thr main one, trope delicately touched as well.

This was lovely and magical. 🥰

Hayden and Dorian meet at a coffee shop where they hit it off.
Hayden works with computers.
Dorian is an artist and in this reality an artist is someone who is able to render a drawing of one's soul mate through touch. They are able to seep in to the unconsciousness of the mind and visualize who the person is. It an interesting concept for sure.
Problem is due to his mother's experience Hayden doesn't really buy into the idea of soul mates. He rather not know.
Dorian does believe in soul mates but due to him being blind he can never see his own.
The two are sweet with one another. The relationship feels organic from the first meet, to the phone calls, text and hangouts. As Dorian is blind Hayden takes the time to understand and respect how Dorian wants to be treated. This was all low angst, low steam(sweet kisses as the intimacy is shown more emotionally than physically in this one) but very adorable. Overall an enjoyable read.

So sweet and heartbreaking.

Imma keep this short and sweet, just like the book.

Q: This cover is gorgeous! Is it really that sweet?
A: Isn't it though? You should totally judge this book by its cover. And it's the sweetest!

Q: What's so special about it?
A: Well, it's an alternate reality where most people find their soulmates by going to "The Artist".

Q: Intriguing! Who's The Artist?
A: Dorian is The Artist, who people come to so he could draw the face of their soulmate. He's mild mannered and sweet. He's also blind which affects his ability to find his own soulmate. #PoorBaby

Q: This sounds heartbreaking! But the other MC's his soulmate right?
A: The other MC is Hayden who is gentle and protective, a potent presence in Dorian's life... who doesn't believe in soulmates. #MicDrop

Q: Oh no!! But How? Why? WHAT!
A: Yup! he's got some bad experience with soulmates and so refuses to believe in The Artist and his work... Granted he doesn't know who Dorian is in the beginning. #Curveball!

Q: The suspense is killing me!
A: IKR! They transition from acquaintances to friends to lovers seamlessly. It was dreamy and heartwarming! #Sigh

Q: *whimpers* Steam-o-meter?
A: No steam... gentle kisses and cuddles is all you'll get, which suits the mood of the book perfectly. #PerfectFit

Q: Angst-o-meter?
A: Low angst, expect for one small scene.

Q: Please God tell me it has an HEA!
A: You bet ya! And it's as dreamy as the book!

This book is very different from the usual MM romance I read. It has fade to black sex. *Gasp*
Despite the lack of heat, the romance is still the core of the story and both the MC is very cute and sweet together. There were some angst which makes me cry a little towards the end due to the MC different beliefs in regard to soulmate, but they manage to get their HEA.

A nice decent story about finding your soulmates.
Dorian is The Artist, who can draw your soulmate, and he really wanted to draw his. But then he met Hayden who never wanted to know.
Especially after he met Dorian and falling in love. His fear to see his soulmate gained ten folds and he rejected to fulfill his mother's wish. What if it's not Dorian?
I liked this book, a bit boring in the middle, but if you're a fan of this author's writing, read this book.

The good
+ Hayden's immediate attraction to Dorian
+ Hayden fumbling sometimes, but generally doing really well learning how to be friends and more with a blind person
+ Their first hug. It was so romantic!
+ The first kiss. Also romantic!
+ Hayden wrapping Dorian in blankets
+ Hayden's need to wrap Dorian up and protect him in general, while still recognizing what a strong person Dorian was
+ Audiobook dates
+ Ariel. She was precious
+ Ally. She was a great friend to Dorian
+ The reason Hayden didn't believe in soulmates. It was valid and he never changed his mind, which I found really strong
+
+
+ An epilogue 23 years in the future. Now that's a real epilogue!

The neutral
o All side character names started with A (Ariel, Ally, Alex), which can be confusing
o The sex is non-explicit, which I personally liked in this story but might be something some readers want to know beforehand
o I was a little confused on how Hayden saw his life going. He wanted to date Dorian, but refused because of the soulmate thing. Did he plan to spend his whole life alone, then? I thought forming the kind of connection he did with Dorian was his vision of a perfect future, but he was really resistant

The bad
-
- Dorian never stood up to his parents, which was a real pity. I would have liked to see them get what they deserved

This book was really sweet. I loved how their connection was completely their own, without being forced by outside influences. Hayden was a total sweetheart and Dorian was too good for this world. I would recommend this book for those who enjoy sweet reads with lots of romantic feelings.

I'm going to do the positives of this book before I tell you what I thought about it. The book is very careful about avoiding ableist language and portrays characters of differing abilities and body types in a positive light. The book was also hyper focused on developing the romance between the two characters and didn't deviate from that goal from the beginning to the end.

Unfortunately, I just didn't really enjoy the book that much. The storytelling didn't capture or hold my interest as the book was mainly dialogue-driven with bouts of time-jumping summarization, which is not a style of writing that I prefer at all. If the plot of a book does not unfold in real time, I often lose interest in it very early on. It had very little action or any other plot besides these two characters coming to know each other and interacting within this soulmates-restricted universe, so it was just a difficult one for me to get through. The book sort of reminded me of a very careful Victorianesque romance told in vignettes rather than a fully thought out and engaging contemporary romance. I feel like the entire plot was a case of much ado about nothing, and the soulmates aspect could have easily been removed without damaging the plot at all. Frankly, I think that removal probably would have improved this book quite a bit.

If you like extremely slow burn romances with no on page scenes of intimacy, books with a dual first person perspective, books that are very romantic and slightly paranormal, I think you will like this one. I believe my opinion will probably be in the minority as early reviews are very positive, but not every book is for every reader as reader mileage always varies. I have certainly enjoyed other books by this author duo, and intend to read more by them in the future.

Nice story, sweet and light, smooth writing with nice dialogue. Blind MC with the gift of “sight”, being able to draw someone’s soulmate. Very interesting premise.

Heat is almost non-existent, some kissing scenes and a a few very vague intimate scenes. This kept the focus on their budding relationship, but I have to admit that I really would have loved more on page intimacy. I feel like there could have been some really epic moments where they relish and worship each other physically. There was just this vibe of longing and desperation that fell a bit flat for me when their first time together was mentioned as an afterthought. I was surprised and bereft that I missed out on a very special moment for them as a couple and for Dorian specifically.

I still enjoyed the read, very light angst, beautifully depicted scenes at a light exhibit, m/m, HEA, contemporary.

This book really made me think about what I would do if I were in the position of either character, and I honestly don't have an answer!

Dorian made me cry when he was trying to work out what he could live with and it made my heart ache. I could see Hayden's point of view also, and neither was right or wrong.

I also got really upset at Hayden's dad, and the fact he leaves because his daughter has Downs. I've mentioned before that my son has complex special needs - so he's affected by multiple conditions not just one - and I can't imagine being able to walk away from him because of who he is. Devastating that this happens to these amazing kids.

This book was very sweet and romantic. I really liked the premise and the tiny supernatural aspect of how "The Artist" works. It broke my heart how Dorian spent his days drawing the faces of other people's soulmates, but could never draw his own. He may be famous for who he is, but he is very much alone mostly. I loved how Hayden came into his life and brightened it up with his companionship. The romance between them was all consuming. They fell so hard for each other and neither were afraid to be vulnerable with the other. I did wish we got some steam. These two were so passionate about how they felt, it would have been enjoyable to read about their intimate moments of passion as well. However, that is just a personal preference of mine.

The major niggle I had was how PC things were. The way Hayden would sometimes ask Dorian about certain things while stressing his politeness, got to the point where it felt a bit stilted in the conversation. It didn't feel like organic dialogue. This didn't happen once, but often to where I sort of got annoyed because it was taking me out of this beautiful story. I absolutely agree that being polite and aware of correct social customs in regards to people with disabilities is important. I myself try very hard to make sure I am educated on the subject, but I don't constantly question myself or others about it like a professor. That would get awkward real quick!

This book has a clever storyline and one I have never read before so that upped my enjoyment. I also have to say that I loved Hayden's bestie Alex. He is a hot mess and I do hope he shows up again in a book someday. If you are looking for a very romantic book with intimate dialogue, I think you will enjoy Faces. If you want a steamy read with lots of naked time, this is not your book.

I loved it. Dorain is The Artist, he draws people's soulmates, but what he wants is to be able to find his. Hayden doesn't believe in soulmates, because his father, who was his mother's soulmate, left them when his sister was born. He couldn't deal with have a Down's baby. That ruined it for Hayden for life. I thought this hard & fast feeling was a little OTT and it never changes. When Hayden finds out who Dorain is, he is less than pleased but doesn't hold it against him. Dorian is torn as he wants to know his soulmate, but is so afraid it won't be Hayden. Hayden's mom & sister were so sweet & I loved the interactions with them. I'm glad that Dorian's mother only makes a small appearance & she was a piece of work. There was a moment when things could have gone horribly wrong but our boys do work it out. I liked that we get an epilogue that was 23 years in the future to see that they are still strong.

I rec'd an ARC from the Authors in exchange for an honest review.

Faces takes place in an alternative reality. That is on par for the author who writes amazing fantasy books. In this reality, people go to The Artist when they are ready to meet their soulmate. The Artist forms a psychic bond with them in order to draw a portrait of their soulmate. In theory, both people in a couple would have portraits of each other.

In this novel The Artist himself, Dorian, would be unable to have a portrait of his soulmate. When he meets someone he connects with, he hesitates, knowing and believing that he would be replaced when the soulmate comes along. Hayden, however, doesn’t believe in soulmates. So how can they ever be anything more than friends? Those these two men feel a connection to each other, can their beliefs ever allow them to be together?

When I finished this book, I had to sit with it awhile. I wasn’t really sure how I felt about it. It isn’t the type of book I usually read, and I feel that it is a departure of sorts for the author. I had to look at it objectively though. It is very well-written. The characters are very fully developed and each very distinct from each other. But it isn’t a book I really enjoyed. It was a little heavier than I usually read and there is some ambiguity involved in the plot that left me feeling slightly off.
I love this author and have every intention of continuing to read their books, but this is not one I ever see myself rereading.

The premise of this book was actually very cool, and sort of loved the ending of how like there is something implied but never confirmed. I liked how easily Hayden adapted to Dorian's needs. Unfortunately I felt like there was just something missing, like missing scenes or just a little something extra to really make me believe in the characters feelings for each other. There were also a few dialogue moments that were a bit off to me.

Captivating - read in one sitting. Beautiful and different with all the feels. Sex scenes are fade to black but it fits the mood. It's hope, touch, taking chance, choosing each other. And it's love - palpable and strong.

Listen. This book. THIS BOOK! Ugh. It was so beautiful, I couldn’t even stand it! Dorian is a sweet baby Angel, and both him and Hayden deserve all the happiness in the world. My gosh, I was in danger (more than once) at sobbing at work, just at how beautiful the story was! It really ponders the question what does it mean to have a soul mate, and what would you do if you could be certain who it was? 🥹🥹🥹

I’m struggling to process my feelings after finishing this book. In one way, I thought it was incredibly beautiful and poignant, giving us a story about loving and accepting someone for all that they are. I can’t help feeling a bit disappointed though, and it’s one hundred percent on how much hope I didn’t realise I placed on getting that unequivocal answer in a soulmate book. For me, the soulmate aspect had me tearing through the pages to get that little bit extra to the couples’ HEA. And, although Dorian and Hayden have one of the sweetest and most loving romances right from the moment they meet, I hate that I still felt let down in the end. I completely get the ending and if I remove my own feelings from the equation, I can appreciate how soul-deep their love for one another truly is.

I’m very much still recommending this book! Dorian and Hayden fall so deeply in love, getting a gorgeous HEA and an epilogue set 23 years later!

This book, and especially the relationship between the characters, feels like reading in front of a rainy window, wrapped in a cosy blanket. It's soft and sweet and lovely.

*Spoilers*I will say, though, that if you love the concept of soulmates, this may not be the book for you. It has the feel of a soulmate subversion story. I still really liked it, but if that's an important part of the story for you, then keep in mind that it does subvert the concept.

This was a cute story about 2 people falling in love. I liked the premise of soulmates and the artist. The addition of his inability to see his own soulmate was both amazing yet gut wrenching. Really liked how Hayden didn't want to find his due to his experiences. The meet cute was typical and yet sweet. I loved all the little details about how Dorian navigated the world.
