I prefer full length novels so I’m new to reading short stories, but this is a gold mine. I’ve been reading Jeff Wheeler for years, but was thrilled to see Charlie Holmberg, Ken Liu , Michael J Sullivan and a lovely surprise in Jeanna Mason Stay’s piece. Wulf Moon and Brittany Rainsdon knock it out of the park with their tightly plotted, heartstring plucking stories. Watch these two. I’m serious. Unique voices, strong emotions. I’ll read anything they write.

Since I do not have a lot of time between work and kids, I am enjoying reading these short stories. So far each one I read has sucked me in.

“Perfectly Painted Lies” by Brittany Rainson really got me thinking about what if. I am not sure I would be as brave as the main character Hildegard.

Wulf Moon’s teaching persona really shines through in “Muzic Man”, a story about an android teaching others to love music. Yes a world can be changed one person at a time.

Since I am starting to get older myself, I really appreciated that the main character of “Forged in Iron and Blood” by Jeanna Mason Stay was a grandma type persona who was also a black smith. It gives me something to look forward to as my kids get ready to flee the nest.

I have to admit I have not finished reading all the stories, but what I have read so far I thoroughly enjoyed. I am looking forward to making my way through the rest.

An anthology gets five stars when I liked more than half the stories. The authors are mostly new to me, but obviously have a lot of talent.
