A brimming sense of despair. A hotbed of horrific beasts. Who will survive the hellstorm?

Frazier Mountain, California. Kevin Murphy can't seem to catch a break. Fleeing to an imposing pine-forested peak after a series of Hollywood fiascos, the beaten-down writer fears the gorgeous woman on his arm won't stick around if he doesn't find success soon. But their idyllic cabin in the woods becomes a house of horrors when he discovers the area is secretly a haven for disturbing creatures and deadly vampires.

Desperate to show he's strong, Kevin and his girlfriend rush to assemble a monster-fighting force. But all his efforts might be for naught in the face of their maniac neighbor's plan to use a legendary spellbook to unleash all-out annihilation.

Can the troubled wordsmith rebuff a bloody invasion without becoming fiend fodder?

Mountain Of Fangs is the pulse-throttling first book in the Mountain Of Fangs horror series. If you like creepy locales, inhuman threats, and the clash of swords and gunfire, then you'll love Carlo Hart's uneasy climb.

I picked up this book because its the right season for a horror story and the description of a man who can't catch a break being hunted by monsters on a mountain seemed just right.

This was a bit of a bust for me, personally. The writing was very dialogue driven with very direct and straight forward descriptions that honestly made me think of screenplays. I have no real sense of what any of these characters look like, or what their home looks like to the point that later in the book when they mention a loft I was actually confused in a spatial sense.

There is a lot of action and a little bit of sex and both scenes are written in a very unembellished way that is honestly jarring. I never got a sense of the characters, and new characters would be frequently introduced even though I didn't have a firm grasp on the characters we already had.

The core concept of your nightmares hunting you is interesting, but not enough to carry this overall fairly short book.

I received this book as an advance reader copy for free from Book Sirens - this review is voluntary and showcases my honest opinion.

This book took a crazy ivan, but after being confused, I just let the story unfold and found it very entertaining. Started out as horror based in realistic environment, it turned into horror, comedy and fantasy, ending with a real cliff hanger. The characters are a bit two dimensional at first and I struggled to connect with the protagonists sufficiently to feel either horror or dismay depending on events. After the crazy ivan, I found it easier to like the characters, perhaps helped by the addition of humor to the story. This reads quickly as events just pop along without any foreshadowing, so as the surprises start happening, you are incentivized to go along to see what fantastical thing happens next. No deep psychological insights or serious themes: just a really fun and funny story that keeps you reading even though the events become increasingly improbable, even in a fantasy-type world. Just plan on enjoying this well written adventure and be prepared to have the rug pulled out beneath you several times.

There is a new group of monster hunters in town ...

Why did I put off reading this fantastic book? This book is non stop from beginning to end. It is full of creatures running around trying to kill and the gang they are after are trying to figure everything out while staying alive. Oh, and just for fun, aliens are added into the mix. I am so happy that the next book is available.

Everything you could want in a horror story.....

I really liked this story. The characters were fun and so very different from each other. What I liked best is that is was very similar to the horror stories I read as a kid. The author wrote in a style that was easy to understand and follow without it being too complex. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Mountain of Fangs is about floors that creak and things that go bang in the night. Kevin, Todd, and Faith, the protagonists, are sneaking around with secrets of their own. Kevin affirms that "..the best way to not act scared was to not act scared." However, things get pretty creepy from the start.

The novel has a hip language with references to pop culture. The sentence structuring is sometimes off with dangling modifiers. The tone is casual and we should not expect a linguistic extravaganza. I also noticed some narrative disconnects. For example, in The Greenest Lawn Ever, it reads as if Kevin is narrating an incident on the ranch in Merced. But, the storyline seems to shift to incidents in his new abode in the mountains. This gap in the narration made me go back and forth to make the connection.

The theme of the story has the most merit. It is unique but with familiar darkness. The author, Carlo Hart, has done ample research to embellish the narrative with interesting tidbits. The mystery is exciting - are there more freakish beings than one, is the supernatural a manifestation of the fears and follies of the main characters, and why are the creatures pursuing them. At a point, I was wondering if it is all a metaphor and even with modern science and gadgets, we cannot escape the ghouls. The writer has built the supernatural elements from various folklores but provided a contemporary perspective.

The story maintains a good pace with small breezy chapters, carefully dedicated to building the characterization. The suspense is accentuated by the fact that the inhabitants know about the creepies and crawlies. Some even provide protective insight, while some lead the characters directly into their den. Is everyone involved, or is it all an extraordinary hallucinogenic nightmare? Read this spooky novel to find out. It is a good attempt in the horror genre.

A new look for monsters

This book was fun and a little scary at the same time. The good guys are likeable and they don't have a lot of personal problems to deal with. The two main characters, Kevin and Faith, are in a relationship that develops a new wrinkle, but it is a small problem. Then there is Diego, the monster hunter, a man cool under pressure. The plot is the usual one you know where an alien space race plans on conquering the Earth with the help of a sociopathic human. How does the story end will read and find out. I will be looking for the next one in the series to see what happens.

Simplistic, missing storylines/money

Maybe best suited for youth or young adult. It lacks the depth for serious readers. The characters are flat or one dimensional. The scene settings are just the bare minimum, if that. Most troubling is missing storylines, or incomplete thoughts; such as (1) Faith’s car blocked by a fallen tree, that we don’t what caused it or if it was remedied, (2) Ivan’s 3 million dollars and the body that’s left behind, (3) Madison’s Billy and the aftermath, and (4) William’s 10 million dollars which should have been discovered. I could go on and on. Don’t waste your money or your time. I would skip this author.

Creative and Easy to Write

The paranormal characters are both standard and unusual. I will go to the next book because the has an end, but so much more to enjoy. The story is entertaining and engrossing. I will add this author to watch.

Oh heck yeah!

This is a fun romp! I really enjoyed meeting these characters, this would make a great really bad monster movie, lots of monsters running around, some aliens and more!

Witches, vampires, giant mutant bunny men, a monster hunter, an authentic psychic and a house with an unusually green lawn. Something really odd is going on on the mountain, and it makes for a horrifically fun romp.

This book is a hoot.

As I got further and further into it I kept thinking, it's really, REALLY reminiscent of the movie "Cabin in the Woods." Horror, but also some slapstick humor.

Chapters are short, concise and generally involve exactly what the chapter heading is. Personal favorite "splat"

I was amazed at how many different tropes and monsters and just everything that got shoved into each chapter and then at the end reading the creator's bio, it was all "OH" NOW it makes sense!

I will cheerfully read any further books in this series just to see exactly how insane they end up being.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
