A life for a life … will kill the both of us in the end.
Clover
I know nothing of the Sickness at Eastpoint University. I know only the backroads that slip past the southern beaches and the gators that make their way onto the swamps shores. Until him. Until the killer known as Braxton Smalls finds his way into my stilted trailer on the coast of Port Charlotte.
He came looking for Ace, but he found me instead…
Braxton
I’m a monster. Always have been. Always will be. The only people I’ve ever given a shit about are my boys and their girls. No one hurts my family, and knowing that someone has … and that they’ve gotten away with it plagues me.
Ace Volkov will pay for what he put Avalon through and if I have to use his most precious weakness to draw him out, I will.
She thinks she can bargain for his life with her own, but I mean to show her that there’s nothing I won’t do to see my vengeance through to the end.
Lucy Smoke, also known as Lucinda Dark for her fantasy works, has a master’s degree in English and is a self-proclaimed creative chihuahua. She enjoys feeding her wanderlust, cover addiction, as well as her face, and truly hopes people will stop giving her bath bombs as gifts. Bath’s get cold too fast and it’s just not as wonderful as the commercials make it out to be when the tub isn’t a jacuzzi.
When she’s not on a never-ending quest to find the perfect milkshake, she lives and works in the southern United States with her beloved fur-baby, Hiro, and her family and friends.
I knew I was going to love Braxton’s book, I just didn’t know how much!!!!!! I’ve been having lots of fun with the Sick Boys ! The whole series is great. The first 3 books have the most development and Dean/Ava are amazing. Ava is not relatable at all and she might make some people want to stop reading this series, but keep it up because it’s worth it “IN MY OPINIONNNNNN” Brax is awful but in the best way, out of the 3 sick boys he is the psycho and he is hellbent in revenge against Ace for torturing and almost killing Ava and as much as it looks like he is in love with her, it isn’t that. It’s just because he loves her as a sister and couldn’t stand the fact that his brother Dean, the one he loves, could’ve lost his life and his love and it was all because of his father. So yep he wants to kill Ace and to get to Ace he kidnapped his sister Clover. Little did he know that she wasn’t as easy as a target like he thought, as sick and psycho as he is , she CAN take him. And I LOVED this book. He made me angry, he was SO extremely cruel to her, but as a good dark romance, we see why he is how he is and that he actually cares, and we see his slowly realization that he loves her till he loses her. Now I will IMMEDIATELY listen to the continuation of their story.
Having not read the previous books, I was a little apprehensive about missing too much by diving into book 5. And there is parts of the story where I can tell there is more, but I would have to read the previous books to appreciate the back story. That being said, Braxton is set on his revenge and decides that Clover, Ace's sister, will be the one to feel his wrath. This story was angsty, dark, and steamy.
It was a good read but not as intense as I hoped it would be. I expected Brax to be a little more alpha to be honest but still he was ok. Good characters and good storyline.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
WOW! I mean, just WOW! This book had my heart beating, racing and on edge for almost the entirety of it! I am left completely speechless. For me, this series gets better with each addition.
A life for a life... will kill both of us in the end.
Braxton Smalls is set on revenge. No one hurts his family. He has been hunting Ace Volkov and has finally found the the answer to luring him out, Clover La Roux.
Clover La Roux is nothing. She has been a means to an end for everyone in her life. The day that Braxton finds her instead of Ace, her first thought is to protect her brother. So what does Clover do? She makes a deal with the devil, and the devil collects.
This story from the very beginning is non-stop hate. These two are so toxic and man, the hate and anger they have for each other is just palpable throughout the entire book... ENTIRE BOOK! I could not put it down. I absolutely LOVED Clover! And her interaction with Avalon, I was DYING!!! I loved her even more (I personally have not been the biggest fan of Avalon, sorry not sorry). Clover is feisty, gritty and often questions herself but she has a whole OTHER self. Evgenia. This character is absolutely fantastic!!! And then we have Braxton. He is hot HOT HOT! Did I mention he was hot? Goodness the alpha in this boy is ridiculous. He will have you melting.
I am actually not sure who the title is referring to... Braxton or Clover!?
It’s so good. REALLY good. This one may have surpassed Wicked Heathens as my favorite! This book does end in a cliffhanger, just a warning!
I have enjoyed all the books in this series so far, but this one is definitely my least favorite read.
I did not like the heroine one bit. She wanted to come across as some kind of though chick, like Avalon, but to me she came across as whiny and needy. She sold herself to Braxton, in exchange for her brother's life, but then started crying about the hero not being nice to her and not caring about her.
He fucking kidnapped her and she expected him to play house or something ??... She was jealous of his friendship with Avalon?? What a weirdo.
I also expected much more from Braxton's character... What I got was a bit fat nothing. He was supposed to be some kind of monster, but after fucking her pretty roughly and with dubious consent, he went crying about how she was his and blah blah...
I like my heroines to be rough and strong and to take no shit from anyone, but Clover came across as an Avalon wanna be, and there can only be one... Sorry. I also couldn't deal with the whole schizo thing the heroine had going on. Very confusing and unrealistic.
Braxton’s story and yes it goes dark! I love that the FMC also is dark so fitting that both fit, but hated how things rolled out but at the same time it’s what was agreed- I feel the mix but I’m totally Team Clover. Can’t wait for the next!!!
Have you heard of the Sick Boys? Dean, Abel, and Braxton are legends. Braxton is the most unhinged of the trio, a terrifying and certifiable psycho. Blood, pain, and tears turn him on. Most women can’t handle his twisted, sinister side.
When Avalon was kidnapped, Braxton vowed to find Ace Volkov and destroy him. You don’t mess with his family and live to tell the tale. Vengeance will be served, and Braxton is the avenging Angel.
Searching for Ace, Braxton finds Clover and takes her as collateral. In order to save Ace, Clover offers Brax a deal, her body for Ace’s safety.
Braxton accepts on false pretenses, having no intention of letting Ace’s past sins go so easily. Braxton will break Clover, using her as bait.
Clover has her own demons and experiences extreme emotions, the pendulum swinging from indifference to rage in a nanosecond. She often feels like a pawn in her own life, and loneliness rolls off of her in waves. Her fiery temper rivals Braxton’s ice-cold demeanor.
The tension between Braxton and Clover is so thick you could sever it with a knife. And damn that hotel scene is spicy!! These two will be unstoppable if they don’t murder each other in the process!
I wish there were more scenes with these two together. The few we get are riddled with sexual tension, but I didn’t think there were enough with just them. The sex is hot as hell, but minimal. Lucy writes some seriously erotic and sultry scenes, so hopefully this is just the build up for the next book.
The ending has a massive cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to see Braxton unleash his inner beast! I don’t like wishing away time, but August can’t get here fast enough! This is one of my favorite series. It’s dark, depraved, haunting, and beautiful all in the same breath.
Sick Boys is one of my all time fav series and when I tell you I have been waiting for the one and only Braxton Smalls, I mean I’ve been counting down the days until Lucy Smoke dropped the first book in his duet, Bloody Cruel Psycho!
Brax is my favorite kind of alphahole - tall, muscles, feeds off fear, and don’t f*ck with me vibes that not only promises, but 100% delivers. But every man has a weakness and his comes in the form of a tiny red head…
Who just so happens to be the sister of the man he’s hunting and his captive! But Clover is no weak prisoner. No, it’s her backbone and her instinct to challenge that draws Brax in.
I had crazy high hopes for this book and Lucy surpassed my expectations! It was dark (read those TWs!), it was hot, and it was angsty. Throw in my favorite familiar faces and that ending? Must read!!!!
Honestly, this wasn't as intense as I was expecting. But the plus side to that is that it had me on the edge of my seat just waiting to see Clover finally explode and give Braxton hell and I loved that bit of suspense.
4.25⭐️ There were times when I felt for Brax, but at the same time I felt like choking the life outta him for being such a moron. And God, Clover...I felt so bad for her. She's always been used as a means to and end and never has been cared for by anyone. I'm excited to see more emotional development in the next book - something that was lacking in this one along with the limited amount of smut that we got. Also, I felt like the pacing was a bit off. Like one moment, they're at each other's throats and being toxic af and then all of a sudden, she thinks she loves him and he's terrified of her so he degrades her (and NOT in a good way)??? Other than that, this was a perfect dark romance with a lotta angst and a good buildup on the tension between Braxton and Clover. Anywho, this is my first read by Lucy Smoke and I think I quite like her writing style. Looking forward to reading Bloody Cruel Monster next🥰
To start with I went back and re-read this series from the start again, just to refresh my memory and I loved it even more the second time round. Honestly couldn't wait for Braxton's story to be told and now that Lucy has confirmed it will be in two parts I was so happy. Bloody Cruel Pyscho was everything and more, I just new this story was gonna be explosive.
Clover right from the start I really loved. I think she is a strong independent h, and she gives as good as she gets. Meaning she doesn't take Braxton shit, she fights back. Braxton I do like but I do think he needs to grovel to clover. When you read this book you will understand why!
I don't want to spoil anything but know I loved this series and I loved this book. That ending....WHAT??? I honestly can't wait for part two of Braxton and Clover's story.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
My goodness! This book races along at a mile a minute, filled with action, alphas, a feisty, wonderful heroine, dark themes and all round hotness. What's not to enjoy? Clover's position as a captive does not reflect her strength and courage, her innate sense of independence. Braxton's determination to use Clover as a tool to draw out her brother makes sense in the context of the plot, and, I have to say, the resulting combustible atmosphere of roiling emotions, makes for a magnetic read! And don't get me started on having to wait for more!! I can do it! Brilliant! 💖💖💖💖💖
Bloody Cruel Psycho is Braxton and Clover’s story. It is highly recommended to read the entire Sick Boy series from beginning to get a background on the characters and the overall plot. Clover is smart and doesn’t take shit from anyone - when she gets kidnapped as bait, she uses all her resources she can to survive. This is an a cliffhanger but I’m so excited to see how their story plays out.
What a read. This book was amazing and I could not put it down until I finished the last page. It moves along at a great pace which made for an enjoyable read. IT has interesting characters that you feel as though you know and you want to be there. This book needs to be on your TBR list, you will not be sorry that you did.
Nothing - and I do literally mean nothing - pisses me off more when reading ROMANCE books than having an unexpected, surprise, not-told-there-would-be-one-in-the-description, cliffhanger. This is not sci-fi! It's not Fantasy! It's f*cking ROMANCE! Unexpected cliffhangers have no business being in Romance! Why is that so hard to understand?
In my opinion, unexpected cliffhangers are rude. Disrespectful. And oftentimes, a very poorly and thinly veiled attempt to cover up a base, unattractive, motivation that has nothing to do with the characters or story...instead, it's greed or instant gratification of greed, wanting people to read the book immediately, rather than waiting until they can get the full story for that particular couple. Some readers may enjoy cliffhangers in the Romance genre, but there are a hell of a lot of us who do not. It ruins our reading experience. We, the reader, should be given the choice to decide if we want to be put on hold in a story for weeks, or worse, for months, to reach the whole frickin' point of a romance novel which is the HEA, the HFN, the knowing that the couple you are emotionally invested in is, in fact, "together". We should be given the choice based upon what is best for us, and not what is best for the author.
Just as there are TRIGGER WARNINGS regarding rapes, abuses, drug addictions, suicides, etc., there should be TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR CLIFFHANGERS. Why is that very simple concept so f*cking hard for authors to understand?
It is a TRIGGER for people who do not deal well with having all their emotions suddenly stopped, bottled up, and chained with no release or end in sight (or if there is an end in sight, it's usually months down the road, and even then it is an emotional wasteland because you don't know how far the author is willing to disrespect you and there may be another cliffhanger waiting for you at the end of the next one!). Something that can induce strong negative emotion, and yes - even rage should have a trigger warning! Make no mistake, for many readers, unexpected cliffhangers induce exactly that.
I'm not saying don't write cliffhangers (well, unless you fill your books with useless fluff and filler to intentionally drag it out and get more money, then you should not). Go ahead and write cliffhangers! BUT... what I'm saying, is show your readers the f*cking respect they deserve, and TELL US there will be a cliffhanger, so we can decide what is best for us...to read it now and wait months for the next one, or to wait until THAT COUPLE'S STORY IS COMPLETE, and THEN read however many books it takes.
I mean, damn! It's not rocket science! Why's it so hard to understand?
ETA: How many ROM COMS and CHICK FLICKS can you quickly think of that end in a CLIFFHANGER? 🤔 There's an obvious reason for it.
Now that my ranting and raving is complete, I will say this:
I was desperately waiting for this book. I have enjoyed this series. I am invested in the characters. I truly love them, despite their horrific ways. I will read the next one, because I want to. Because I'm invested. Because I care about them. But I already know the next book and the conclusion for Brax & Clover WILL NOT have the same emotional impact on me that it would have, because of how this book left me hanging. And that? *sigh* It's damn heartbreaking. And not in the good way. Honestly, there's a part of me that is already writing off Clover & Braxton, all because they are now tied into my feeling of being completely disrespected and taken for granted. I know I said I'd read the next one, but I actually might not. I might just wait for Luc Kincaid's story.
You don't have to dangle people on cliffhangers to have loyal readers in Romance. And if you do? That means your writing is shit. I can honestly say, I do not think Lucy Smoke's writing is shit. I enjoy it. So I don't understand why, since I respect her, she can't respect me? I'm not asking for anything big. It's simple. Respect Me. Tell Me. Inform me, so I can decide when it is best for me to read your book. Simple.
Have y’all read the sick boys? CAN I SAY YOU ARE IN FOR A F-ING ROLLERCOASTERRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
I have been awaiting Braxton’s book for a while since I read Abel’s and Dean’s and was awaiting what type of heroine would tame him.
Braxton – known as the coldest in other words ‘psycho’ of the group has been headbound on finding Avalons capturers, the almighty Ace, and making them pay. He comes across Clover and takes her for retribution and then begins their story.
Clover………. CAN I SAY I LOVE THIS GIRL with all my heart. Brax believes Clover is a quiet and meek girl who will obey his every command. Little does he know, she’s the opposite. Having a trouble past has shaped Clover into a strong, feisty and independent woman! SHE IS SO BADASS. She reminds me of Ava. I love how all Lucy Smokes heroines are strong!! But, shhhh don’t tell Ava, Clover might be my favourite.
These two go through a push and pull era – but attract each other like magnets. I believe both really compliment each other well. Clover causes Brax to feel emotions he didn’t know he was capable of. Brax shows Clover a side of the world she’s never seen.
Now let’s talk about the CLIFFHANGERRRRRRRRRRRRRR. My my my. I cannot wait to see how the second book plays out. How their journey will continue. How Braxton will redeem himself (NOT DROPPING MORE HINTS) Be sure to check it out!
Lucy took me on a dark and twisted ride and I am here for all of it!! I strongly suggest reading the previous books to this series to understand the entire plot (and because they are fantastic) along with being mindful of triggers because this one does have them. This does end on a cliffhanger that will leave you on your knees, so be prepared.
How far would go to protect the only family you have? Clover’s answer to this question is a simple one, she offers herself. This young woman is something else - she is cunning, determined, smart and a helluva fighter.
Braxton is the darkness that most people don’t want to bump into. He tends to cut first and ask questions after, but there is so much more under the surface - the pain from his past that has been exchanged for anger comes across so strongly that I could taste it.
These two together is a toxic, hot, and addictive scene to watch unfurl. The battle of the wills is fierce with these two - for as much as he pushes her, she doesn’t falter. They continuously press each other buttons and when the chemistry explodes between them it’s like watching an atomic bomb explode. But when Braxton pushes Clover over the edge, will he be able to save her without losing himself in the process?
This is a dark read that I couldn’t put down. Lucy pulled me in from the first page and took me on a journey that had me white knuckling my kindle the entire time. When one question was answered, four more took its place. The suspense, action and touch of mystery had me flipping faster than I anticipated. I loved how she made Clover an equal match to Braxton and believe me, like calls to like for this one. She wrote this in such a way, that made me love a character even when his actions were unforgivable in “normal” circumstances and has me rooting for their HEA. I am so excited to see where she takes Braxton and his Firebird.
“I might have liked her in another life. I might have wanted her for something more.”
HOLY WOW! What a bold and brilliantly told tale! Bloody Cruel Psycho is pure depravity and debauchery in prose, and I devoured every bit! Like the aptly named title, this tale is a heady mix of psychotic, passionate, and phenomenal!!!
Bloody Cruel Psycho isn’t a romance … yet … but oh is it achingly addictive … a magnetic page-turner. I fell for the sinfully sexy and seductive saga of a dark prince of a baller and the bold princess he captures. This cat and mouse game of predator and prey thrusted me to the edge of darkness where I basked in the heart-thrashing high of the Psycho Prince.
Darkness sees darkness, and Clover and Braxton were created for each other. Oh my do this hero and heroine ignite, exploding through the pages. She quenches his thirst for defiance and deviance. He makes her feel alive.
Bloody Cruel Psycho took me on one incredible, heart-racing roller coaster full of chills, thrills, twists, turns, and all the nail-biting angst. This deliciously dark fantasy meets mind-tripping thriller owned me. I felt every ounce of this potent mix of pain and pleasure. I was so drunk on this book. Pure intoxication! I need more now.

I have been addicted to the Sick Boys since book one and am thrilled we have Braxton's story. And it starts off with a bang as Braxton is on the hunt for Ace to secure revenge for his family. How does this involve innocent Clover? All I'll say is things are not all as they seem and as long as Braxton has a pound of flesh...he's not all that picky who he gets to "play" with. Loved this dark, twisted story that weaves its way around Braxton and Clover's toxic relationship. Not only their interactions but also the interactions between Clover and the Sick Boys family. Both sides trying to figure out what makes each other tick. Fascinating. And their "sick" need for each other. I am one hundred percent there for the unraveling of what's behind the scenes of all of the danger and manipulation of the elite families and their heirs. Can't wait for what comes next! Definitely ended with some danger that I need to know more about!
I love the Sick Boys series so much, and Braxs story is just as amazing!!!
Bloody Cruel Psycho is book #5 in the Sick Boys series. It is Braxton and Clovers story. Make sure to check the Trigger Warning.
I have been waiting for my favorite alphahole, Sick Boys book, and I am so excited it's here!! Brax is so freaking HOT and you guys are gonna LOVE his story!!!
Braxton is out for bloody revenge against the man who hurt Avalon, and he won't stop until he gets it. When he can't track him down, he takes his little sister, Clover, instead.
Clover feels like a pawn and is so lonely but has a redhead temper 😂 She goes with Brax in her brothers place and to save Aces life, she offers Brax herself and her body. She was just supposed to be bait to draw Ace out, but now she is more.
Holy crap. The tension between these characters is SMOKING HOT!!!! And that cliffhanger Lucy hurls us off of, I am dying for the next book!!!
Brax and Clovers story is dark, addictive, mindblowing and EPIC!! Lucy did an amazing job, and I can't wait for the 2nd book in the duet!!
OMG WOW!!!! Lucy Smoke did not disappoint!!! Braxton is now officially my favorite out of the Sick Boys and Clover is a close second to Avery !!! This couple and all the fuckery involved was just everything!!! This was such an intense dark and wild ride the twists and turns kept coming and that ending sweet baby jeezus that ending left my heart in my throat! Amazing this series is seriously one of my all time favorites and I can’t wait for the conclusion to Brax and Clovers story!
Bloody Cruel Psycho is the fifth book in the Sick Boys series and the first book of Braxton's story. Yes, you read that right. Braxton is such a handful that he needed two books to get all his yummy goodness out. You don't HAVE to read the first books to follow along but I definitely suggest it. It gives you the backstory of why Braxton is doing the things he is. And they are freaking amazing books. This whole series has just been a work of art by Lucy.
All my life I have waded through rivers of blood. Kill or be killed. Betray or be betrayed.
If you have read the other books in this series then you already know that Brax is damaged. All of the sick boys are. Brax takes the cake in the darkness though. Probably why he is my favorite. I love an emotionally damaged bad boy. Also if you've read the rest, you will know that Brax is on the hunt for Ace. For revenge. He needs it. It's consumed him. When Ace disappears and the trail has gone cold, Brax finds another stone to overturn. A way to bring Ace out of hiding. Clover.
I was hoping he'd want what no one else ever has. Me.
Clover. Oh Clover. The leaves of a four leaf clover are said to stand for faith, hope, love and luck. Clover hasn't had very much luck in her life and not a lot of love either. Maybe that's why the few that she does love, she will do anything to protect. Like Ace. When Braxton tracks her down looking for Ace, Clover sacrifices herself instead. She has faith in Braxton that he will take her, use her and end his hunt for Ace. She has hope to one day be more than a means to an end. Little Clover has her own darkness inside though. A side so dark she tries to separate herself from it. Hide it away. Keep the promise she made.
Braxton and Clover together are explosive. These two are so twisted up inside I don't know how they make it through some days. Their stories individually are sad, dark and demented. Their interactions are harsh, cruel at times. Their story together though, it's one of beauty. We only have half the story here and already you can see how they are going to be able to heal each other. The chemistry and connection is undeniable. Holy hell the chemistry. When these two get together sexually, hell it literally had me bouncing in my seat. Lucy Smoke has a way of making you want things you never knew you needed in your life.
No one can hide from the monsters that lurk in the dark, and I have never been more grateful to be the monster they should fear. I will end them.
Then we have that ending. Ahhh that ending. I'm dying here. I need to know all the things and I need to know them now. I just can't even tell you guys how much I love this book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Clover I know nothing of the Sickness at Eastpoint University. I know only the backroads that slip past the southern beaches and the gators that make their way onto the swamps shores. Until him. I will tell you guys that when you sit down to read this book, make sure your comfortable and don't have much to do because you will not be putting it down. It's for sure a fast paced book and things are happening all the time. This is a dark book and you will need to heed the warning in the front of the book as it will contain triggers for some readers. Braxton Smalls is set on revenge. After all, no one hurts his family and Ace Bolkov has been hurting his family but he's not going to get way with it. However Braxton can't find him. But, he finds a weakness he can use to lure out Ace. Clover La Roux. Clover is a nobody and nothing. This girl has been a means to an end and treated as such by everyone in her life. When Braxton finds her instead of Ace, her first thought is to protect her brother but she decides to make a deal with the devil knowing full well this devil will collect. To say that she and Braxton hate each other is a understatement. It is such a consuming hate and so well written that you could feel it in your very soul. If your looking for a love story then you won't find one in this book. These two are two of the most toxic characters I have ever read about and I was living for every single second of it. I really didn't lay this book down and I don't know how to really tell you more about the story without giving something away and I don't want to do that. I can tell you this book is really really good and you do not want to miss it though.
I have been waiting MONTHS for Braxton’s story. The most damaged and deranged of all the Sick Boys. He is out for revenge for someone who hurt his best friend’s girlfriend. When he can’t find him, he takes his little sister in his place. She offers herself to save her brother and refuses to tell any information she has about him. Clover has had a difficult life and the only person looking out of her, is herself. She would risk her life to protect her brother. Brax thinks he owns her and her body for as long as he wants, yet despite their “deal”, he will not give up looking for her brother. Brax brings her back to his “tower”, threatening her with her life if she tries to leave. He and Clover hate one another, yet can’t keep their hands off each other. Brax doesn’t know how to feel anything for a woman aside from hate and brutality. He thrives and gets off on causing people pain, including Clover. Things become cloudy when he realizes he feels like he has complete ownership over her, and feels something aside from hate for her. Clover also realizes her feelings for him are more than hate, even when he makes her feel like nothing but used and broken. This book was FIREEEE, just like the rest of this series. Braxton and Clover’s story is everything I could have hoped for. The two of them together are dark, twisted, deviant, and HOT. Their story has only just started. This book ends leaving us with jaws on the floor questions and urgency for the second book. I need more of these two ASAP. I was so glad to go back into the world of Eastpoint and the Sickboys and their girls. They sucked me in from page one and left me breathless until the very end. The writing and story development was absolutely fantastic. Seeing into Braxton and Clover’s past, and what made them the way they are, couldn’t have been established without the amazing character development the author created. There is nothing of hers that I won’t read. She knows how to create a fictional world that will make you question what is real or isn’t real. I 110% recommend this book! It is best to be read in order of the series to get the best reading experience and understand the other characters’ back story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Dark and not for the faint of heart, but I like dipping my toes into this kind decadent treat from time to time and Bloody Cruel Psycho fed my twisted heart.
Braxton Smalls is full of darkness and revenge. He sets out to gain leverage over the man he's searching for by kidnapping his sister, Clover. Braxton didn't account for his kidnapee being mouthy, fighting back, or inciting his monster's lust, so when she offers up herself as a deal in place of her brother, Braxton's monster agrees.
Clover is no wallflower. She too has an inner monster, so when Braxton comes to take her she doesn't hold back. She never expected to feel her inner darkness swirl to life as much as it does around him, it seems to crave him, but could they be too toxic for one another to last beyond the deal they made?
While this is my first step into the Sick Boys world and it is a connected story, this is still Braxton and Clover's very own tale. I was never lost as the other characters came in, nor as backstories flowed in around them. Lucy brilliantly pieced this as a standalone, well technically a duet, and while reading, I was never the wiser that other books came before this. I loved how the other characters flowed in and out, pushing and prodding the main characters along. Brilliant anti-heros, the bunch of them.
Since this is book one in a duet, there is a mighty cliffhanger. I can hardly wait to dive back into to this twisted, dark world to find out what happens next to Braxton and Clover.
I am IN LOVE with this series. I loved Dean and Abel’s story, but I’ve been highly anticipating Braxton’s book ever since we met him in Dean & Avalon’s trilogy and Lucy Smoke did not disappoint!!
Her heroes are truly and unapologetically anti-heroic- they never change and they are unapologetic for the reprehensible methods they use to capture their lady, and with a practice finesse, Lucy makes us swoon for them. Their masterful machinations and mind-bending manipulation, and when all else fails, how they assume complete control. They are soft only for their heroine- but they go hard for her, in very wrong ways. They are messed up, flawed, deplorable- and holy hell, I fall for them every time. Because somehow Lucy finds just the perfect match for them- a heroine whose damages and needs, whose jagged edges perfectly fit the depravity of the hero. Together their dysfunction warps into something more beautiful, yet taboo and unconventional.
Fair warning- this is not for everyone. Not only are there triggers and very uncomfortable beginnings, but some would find this type of hero quite unromantic.
This also ends on a cliffhanger, so be aware of that! You’ll probably want to throw your phone/kindle across the room because of it, but I just know Lucy will make it worth our while.
Lucy Smoke has outdone herself once again. Now Avalon will always be my number one and only book girlfriend but damn if Clover isn’t coming in at a very close second.
I loved that Bloody Cruel Psycho started off with a beauty and the beast vibe. Tall dark and huge dick locks “innocent” naive girl in a tower as payment for another and tries to break her. But what Brax doesn’t know is that Clover has a whole other side to her. A bet with Avalon and one incredibly sexy as fuck balcony scene later we start to really see that Clover has the claws and temper to match not only Ava but the most mysterious and cruelest of the sick boys. She’s clever sassy and dangerous and like Braxton readers will be in for a wild ride.
I honestly fell in love this book within the first five pages a rarity for me to say. The prologue alone has be feeling all kinds of emotions. Lucy not only gave us one badass FMC but she also gave us a relatable character. In conclusion is pure evil genius. The Queen of dark romance left me on the edge of my seat with the cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see what deliciously cruel things the Sicks Boys and their girls will do next.
Sick Boys by Lucy Smoke is what got me into reading after many years and now that I have just finished Bloody Cruel Psycho, I remember why Smoke has always had the power to entrance and completely hook me in in a matter of a few pages. I am utterly absorbed into the Sick Boys’ world again, I never want to get out. Brax has always been the most mysterious, maybe the cruelest, definitely the most arrogant of the boys and he finally met his match in Clover. The underlining hidden plot is growing strong and showing glimpses of deeper locked secrets and worse accomplices. On the other hand, the intense and ultimately deathly chemistry between Braxton and Clover is truly unheard of. What is above panty-melting? Kindle dissolving? I don’t know how to do justice but it was exactly my cup of tea🔥🔥🔥 I hope the next part of the duet, Bloody Cruel Monster, comes out sooner rather than later. With the horrific cliffhanger, it would be heartless to make the fans wait long under these dire circumstances. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
