That Wilson Charm #2

Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous

Rate this book
Hazel

Working at Portland Grace has always been fun, until Tanner Wilson arrives—or Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous as all the scrub nurses have started calling him. Not me, though. Just thinking about him gives me heart palpitations. Not only is Tanner my brother’s best friend, he’s also my new boss. A boss who looks way too good in scrubs.

To make matters worse, I’ve got to share an apartment with him, all thanks to my stupid brother who offered him our spare room. Ugh. Do you know how torturous is it to watch a hot doc scoop cereal into his mouth every morning and having to pretend he means nothing to you?

Tanner

Being offered Head of Trauma at Portland Grace is a dream come true, but I didn’t count on Hazel Green becoming my new scrub nurse. Don’t get me wrong, she’s good at her job, but to me she’ll always be my best friend’s little sister. Extremely cute, but also extremely off-limits.

As long as I can convince her that I don’t like her at all, I’ll be fine. At least, that’s the lie I keep telling myself.

You just gotta love a cute, fun rom-com but especially when it has a bit of a Grey's Anatomy feel to it. Who didn't love that show and McDreamy? Well, Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous has a McDreamy and a darling female who falls hard for him.

I loved this story, book #2 in the That Wilson Charm series. All of Sophie-Leigh Robbins's stories are such fun and I know I'll be having a entertaining read when I start one of her books.

Hazel and Tanner knew each other before Tanner started working at Hazel's hospital. But a near-miss kiss cooled any feelings they thought they might have had for each other. Thrown together again, are those feelings real, or will they drive a wedge between them?

Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous has all the ingredients for a perfect rom-com that will end just the way you want it to. I highly recommend it for a rousing bit of entertaining fun.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is book 2 of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Hazel and Tanner’s points of view

Review:

😍🥺 I loved this adorable romantic comedy! Tanner and Hazel were so great together inside the operating room and out. And I loved all of Hazel’s attempts to avoid Tanner and her feelings for him 😂. Especially when he caught her trying to come up with excuses that didn’t work (like dropping a contact while wearing her glasses and hiding in supply closets).

Hazel is a scrub nurse at Portland Grace Hospital and she loves her job. That is until a new doctor starts working there…one that her coworkers have taken to calling Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous…one they flock to in order to hopefully catch his eye. A new doctor who Hazel knows as her brother’s best friend and her past crush (that isn’t as in the past as she thought).

Tanner is shocked to see Hazel on his first day at Portland Grace. Shocked because she looks way better than he remembers, and he thought she looked good before. Which is not good when he’s trying to think of her as off-limits and now will see her at work. Then her brother (and his best friend) offers to let Tanner stay in his room in the place he and Hazel share. He should say no, but he really does need a place to stay and knowing he’ll see Hazel everyday is too tempting an offer…

With spending so much time in the same spaces, Hazel and Tanner have a difficult time convincing themselves to stay away from each other. But both misinterpret other people’s advances on them as mutual interest and fear they’ve lost their chance. Can they convince each other that they’re all in for only one another or will someone successfully get between them?

Falling for Doctor DDG

Hazel Green is taken off guard when the new trauma surgeon at work turns out to be the very man she’s spent years trying to forget.

Tanner Wilson has sworn off women in order to focus on his dream of being promoted to Head of Trauma. That is until he spends hours everyday in the OR next to Hazel, his best friend’s beautiful little sister.

Sophie-Leigh Robbins’ newest book contains all of my favorite tropes! Brother’s best friend? Check! Forced proximity? Check! Second chance romance? Check! Add in the bonus of a cute doctor and hilarious fake boyfriends and you have a rom com you won’t be able to put down! Hazel and Tanner are definitely lovable characters, but I have to admit Danny is my favorite. IYKYK! 😆

I started in the afternoon, stayed up late reading it, and woke up an hour before my kids to finish it! I don’t think I’ve laughed this hard in a rom com since Emma St. Clair’s Love Cliché series. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but I will definitely be reading other books in this series!

I received an eARC from the author, but all opinions are my own.

did somebody say clean rom-com that’s actually a clean rom-com?? I DID!!

There were multiple moments in this book where I laughed so hard my husband asked what I was laughing at. The internal dialogue of the FMC had me dying!! Her awkwardness and ability to make situations almost unbearable to handle without a face-palm - this was exactly what I needed to read. And don’t get me wrong, just because it’s clean doesn’t mean there aren’t moments where you may burst into flame from the cuteness.

only 4 stars because I needed this to be about 100 pages longer to drag out the tension and story between the two MC’s!!

Gostei bastante.

Fantastic! Absolutely loved it! I love this author’s writing style. I can read any of her works in one sitting without hesitation. This book was no exception. I loved the idea of a surgeon/nurse/best friend’s sister love story. Highly recommend this one.

Okay, I kind of loved this book! I mean, it was just so much fun to read this story! There were so many super awkward moments mixed with so many cute and sweet and swoony moments that I just smiled through the whole thing! Tanner and Hazel were great characters and great together. I loved the "real napkins" inside joke... Ha ha! I appreciated that it was a clean read and that even though a good amount of the story takes place at a hospital or in an OR room that there wasn't anything that bothered super squeamish me. All in all it was a fun, light read!

This was a short but cutesy book, although it took themes and the odd plot point from grays anatomy. It was fun and I did like how it was a slow burn.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous by Sophie-Leigh Robbins is about a scrub nurse and a trauma surgeon falling in love with each other.
Will Hazel keep her old crush's feelings for Tanner at bay?
Hazel Green
Hazel Green is our scrub nurse who ended up with a crush on Tanner while in high school, and Tanner was in college with her brother. She didn't mean to end up crushing on her brother's best friend, and now she has to see him every day at work and home. Hazel ends up fighting off all his admirers at the hospital who thinks that she can give them a leg up on the competition of getting to have a date with Tanner. She doesn't do it because she doesn't see it as being right.

I love Hazel throughout as she made me laugh out loud while I was reading the book. Every time she told him that she had a boyfriend or a fake date was hilarious. Even their moments away from the hospital. I didn't dislike anything about her.
Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous CRTanner Wilson
Tanner Wilson is, of course, our trauma surgeon who we met at the end of the first book. He also had a crush on Hazel but never thought she even liked him that way. These two are so cute throughout the entire story. Tanner tries his hardest to dodge the female hospital staff, who makes it impossible at times. He is a good doctor and an excellent friend to Hazel when she needs his help. Tanner is a thoughtful person and wants to save lives without anyone having a hard time with him. The other thing that I like about him is how he deals with a certain OBGYN doctor.
Five Stars
Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous by Sophie-Leigh Robbins is a hilarious story about two hospital workers falling in love, well, just realizing that they are meant for each other and have already fallen for each other all those years ago. Ms. Robbins does a fantastic job of making Tanner so different from, say, Colton or what we have seen of Maggie and Blake. I love this series so much. Blake Wilson's story is next, and I wonder what Ms. Robbins will do with them that is just as funny as Colton and Elle's story along with this one.

My rating for Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous by Sophie-Leigh Robbins is five stars. I'm recommending it to anyone that loves an excellent rom-com book, as this book is the one for you. It's unputdownable once you get into it.

I am honestly shocked I finished this ahah. It’s a completely clean romance though! I liked the hospital setting? But I just couldn’t handle all the white lies and all the crazy female doctors. The book made it seem like they were all idiots? I feel like the MCs were never together except for literally one scene so how could they have developed love? The kissing scene felt super forced…. I feel like the only thing the main guy had going for him was that he was hot, worked a ton of hours, and was a doctor? And the main girl acted like an immature teenager? Did the two MC even ever have a real conversation? Her parents were super odd too… Honestly my favorite character was the guy who worked in the morgue. I genuinely liked him. But I did finish the whole thing for some reason so…haha…..

SPOILERS and book notes:
“Doctor drop dead gorgeous” is an amazing alliteration. He is a trauma surgeon and she is a trauma scrub nurse. My husband is currently a resident doctor so reading about these grumpy, rude doctors makes me feel de ja vu. This is interesting: “we do a surgical timeout to make sure we have the right patient in front of us and will be performing the correct surgery. Before surgical time-outs were introduced in the early 2000s, mistakes happened more than once, all over the world. Not silly mistakes. Oh no. Mistakes like amputating the wrong person's leg.” Oh man a doctor fainting right before a surgery!?? Code blue?? Yes older brothers best friend trope. And he has a childhood nickname “freckles” for her. He was her teenage crush. Bahaha I love the hospital morbid humor so much: "He's dead?" I yell, louder than anyone needs to shout those words. Still, no one stops talking and no heads swivel in our direc-tion. I guess the word dead doesn't faze anyone working here.” I love that she avoids him and is embarrassed and he totally notices and calls her out on it. Oh man hazels white lies were funny at first but now they are driving me insane. Stop with the white lies please!!!! I like how tanner is confident but not arrogant. There is a difference in the OR. Also it’s interesting that they chat and listen to music while operating. I can also see how annoying it would be to deal with cocky chatty interns. Kick them out!!!! Lives are at stake!! This is a super cute text: “Sorry I had to rush out like that. I'm in the hospital's elevator but wanted to take a moment to let you know I'm thinking about you.” Yeah the ending haha.

I had a great time reading this book. This is a really cute and fun brother’s best friend/forced proximity/workplace romance with the hospital and surgical suite settings of shows like Grey’s Anatomy, but a little more fun and a little less angst. There are some great laugh-out-loud moments. Hazel is a surgical scrub nurse. Tanner, aka Dr. Drop-Dead-Gorgeous, and also her older brother’s best friend and her former crush, takes a position at her hospital as a trauma surgeon. This puts them in a position of working together…which makes avoiding Tanner downright impossible. What makes it even more difficult is that Hazels’s brother and roommate , leaving the country on an extended trip, offers his room up to Tanner, so suddenly they are living together too. Hazel faces an uphill battle trying to fight her feelings for Tanner, not to mention the competition of all the single women at the hospital. “Isn’t pining after a guy who every other girl has the hots for kind of…pathetic?” It’s not long before Tanner starts realizing that maybe his feelings towards Hazel are more than brotherly. “What’s this game that Hazel and I are playing? Are we even playing games or am I completely misreading the signs? I’m not even sure if there are signs.” The romance is lovely and swoony. And there are so many funny moments. Hazel’s attempts to lie are so funny, and great fodder for ongoing jokes. She really doubles down on them, and oh, are there ever consequences. “This must be what it feels like to lie in the grave you dug for yourself. Cold. Hopeless. Filled with regret.” The whole Ubi situation, among many others, is hilarious. Hazel and Tanner are both great main characters. There is also plenty of entertainment to be had from the secondary characters, like Hazel’s parents, and other hospital employees. This is a really fun read. This book is the second in a series, but reads well as a standalone. This is a closed door story with innuendo and infrequent mild harsh language.

I liked this book. I enjoyed Hazel as a heroine, she's smart and good at her job. The hospital and 'OR' setting was so well done. Her interactions with her brother were cute. I also liked the friendship of her brother and Tanner.

Tanner is really something else. I liked that he was a good doctor, focused on his career and had a fun banter with Hazel. Still, behind all that "perfection", he has his flaws. It makes it real. Oh and Hazel's avoiding strategies had me laughing so hard. I did wonder what Owen thought about his sister and best friend together, as his opinion is only mentioned once prior the main plot developed.

Their actions were realistic. You don't just dive into telling your crush you liked them before saying hi again. Still, the waiting almost drove me crazy haha just get together already!...Please

There were some times that Tanner and Hazel frustrated me a little bit. But still, I am happy how everything turned out. I liked that Tanner didn't shy away from showing how much he liked Hazel at the end. I couldn't get enough of them together!

You should give this one a chance and check it out for yourself!

* I was kindly gifted an ARC from the author. This doesn't influence in any form my review/opinion of the book*

This book was very, very sweet. But also…it had zero plot? Moments meant to provide tension were awkward and completely out of left field. And I did not find the chemistry between the main characters believable.

If you, like myself, work in the medical field, you will be very frustrated by this book. I’ve seen some reviews saying “if you need a little Grey’s Anatomy in your life, read this book!” I’m sorry, but this book will not provide that for you.

Yes, I get it. The FMC wants to go on a date to a place that has fancy napkins. And yes, the MMC is called drop dead gorgeous, but these points don’t need to be made every other chapter!

Sadly, I don’t think I can pick up another book from this author.

Truly, the book was very sweet. There were no major heavy medical moments and it was an overall very happy book. But there was also ZERO angst…Moments meant to provide tension were floppy.

Umm, I kind of loved this book! It was the perfect blend of awkward and pure sweetness you expect from a rom-com. The slow burn was on point, and I appreciated that the author didn’t follow the usual rom-com plot formula! Tanner’s POV was pure magic—I wanted more of it! It’s a short and sweet slow burn that's definitely worth the read. ✨

This was a cute, sweet little RomCom. I LOVE Grey’s Anatomy, so I enjoyed that the primary setting for this book was a hospital. I do wish that the book spent a bit more time on character development and and on developing their relationship as it seemed a little insta-love and like the events of the story transpired really quickly. I do really like the brother’s best friend trope, but this story didn’t really play that up much other than in name. I haven’t read the previous book in the series, so maybe I’ve missed something about these characters from that book. Otherwise, this was a really quick and easy read, and I finished it in just a few hours.

I was given an ARC by the author. All opinions are my own.

“And for the love of chilled white wine on a Friday night, why does he look better than ever?”

Hazel is the best scrub nurse Dr. Tanner Wilson has ever worked with. Oh yeah, and Hazel happens to be the little sister of Tanner’s best friend. They even end up as roommates.

The opening scene really pulls the reader in, maybe more like jerk. It happens very quickly. This book is full of genuinely funny scenes. Hazel is always getting herself into a comical predicament. This is a clean romance, but there is SO much chemistry. The dual-viewpoint was written very clearly. I never had to go back and remind myself who was talking.

This was enjoyable, quick read that had me giggling and swooning. I loved the OR setting and some of the behind the scenes medical stuff. The chemistry between Hazel and Tanner was so strong! I loved the best friend’s sister, roommates, coworker thing they had going on. This is part of a series, but I read it just fine as a stand alone. Though, I am excited for the next one to come out!

This sweet, slow-burn, romantic comedy is just what the doctor ordered to give you some feel-good fun.

Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous is a glorious mix of the falling-for-brother's-best-friend and nurse/doctor tropes. I loved that Hazel excelled in her field of work but found herself tangled in some awkward fibs when it came to her love life. And I loved that Tanner was an alpha in the OR but a bit of a beta when it came to romance.

This book is so readable with some great comedy, I couldn't put it down. I'd thoroughly recommend it for fans of sweet romcoms.

This book is second in the series but can be read as a standalone.

Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous is such a sweet, cute and hilarious read. Very lighthearted, well paced, and it comes with funny, dorky (side)characters.

I really like romcoms in which characters are not spared and encounter awkward and embarrassing situations, and Sophie-Leigh Robbins just did that. I found myself laughing so hard for all the impossible situations Hazel brought herself into to defy the inevitable, oh my goodness.

All in all, Falling for Doctor Drop-Dead Gorgeous swept me off my feet and I can’t wait for that Wilson charme to work its magic again.

Hazel and Tanner were a cute couple I loved their story but in my opinion the story went from "Does she like me?" To "I love you Hazel" in the matter of just a few chapters.

Now there are two moments which I would like to point out. I felt like these two scenes were taken straight out of Grey's Anatomy which brings me to the conclusion: Lack of Originality.

1. The Cobalt Poisoning case was way to similar I can go as far as to say almost identical to what happened to Richard Webber in season 16.

2. The flash mob was also extremely similar to Matthew proposing to April.

This was very very good for the first 75%. Then there was the inevitable fighting moment which I hate, Hazel’s behaviour was just really uncalled for to be honest with the grant? And I wish we had gotten more of them dating, it felt very rushed. And I didn’t really understand why the epilogue was told from Blake’s POV? Also, how realistic is it that in a year, they get married and get pregnant? Anyway, like I said, the first 75% was really good, funny and light-hearted, the ending wasn’t the best in my opinion.

Quirky and funny

This book got my attention right from the start. Its a believe able story because what little sister at one time doesn't have a crush on their big brothers friend. Most girls don't carry that crush forever and most guys don't even want to go there. So when the difference in ages finally even out and the and they meet up again and the attraction is still there. Why not through caution to the wind and go for it. And that's exactly what happens in this quietly and funny story. Give it a read you won't be disappointed.

This was a fun and adorable story! Not only is Hazel the little sister of Tanner’s best friend, but she is also his temporary roommate as well as his co-worker. It was very entertaining seeing Hazel trying to hide her feeling for Tanner from him with little while lies. I really enjoyed seeing Hazel and Tanner let down their walls and see each other’s vulnerabilities and finally being able to express their true feelings for one another.

Oh, this book. It was very sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. All the random locations for romantic moments, the crazy hospital staff- Louise, the guy in the morgue who's name I can't remember, Ellis Long.

So, second chance ish, brothers best friend, forced proximity, coworkers, swoony kisses, scenes at restaurants, crazy parents, parties and great family dynamics. Any of that appeal to you? Read this book, that is available TODAY!

It had so much potential and I was so excited to read it but it ended up being a DNF. It started off promising, I adored the irony at the beginning and it was a classic book entrance for our main guy, but it slowly went down hill from there for me. I love cheesy but this was just a bit too much for my taste. All the lies and fake relationships, and an awkward flash mob (???) was a little far fetched.

This is a short romance including a doctor and a scrub nurse. I really didn’t connect with the characters and found them annoying and immature. It painted a lusty picture of the hospital staff. The plot was over quickly and the epilogue was written from another Wilson siblings POV . I am assuming that Blake’s story will be the next in the series. This story didn’t appeal to me and I was disappointed.

I was hooked from chapter1

If when Hazel's trauma doctor literally drops dead in the OR and Dr Drop Dead Gorgeous runs in to save the day isn't enough, Dr DDG happens to be the guy who was her brother's college roommate. She's not sure since he's covered in surgical garb but knows that voice
Upon leaving the OR room, he pulls his mask down and says "hey, freckles," then winks.....
Sigh......

Hazel and Tanner

Is it possible to actually PLAN for 'the perfect kiss'? My husband and I dated for several months before he ever kissed me. What's odd about that is that I remember the anticipation, excitement, and build-up towards our first kiss, but I don't remember our actual first kiss. Oddly enough, I do remember my first kiss with my boyfriend before my husband! Lol. But Tanner and Hazel's first kiss, and the build-up to it, is simply perfect! :)
