Haunted by his last case and still struggling financially, private investigator Nick Fabian is floundering when a birthday surprise from his best friend Connor Long and boyfriend Roy Constas—a home of their own—offers a ray of hope for a future life beyond living in a cramped trailer and staring into the depths of human depravity.

Nick's optimism soon fades when he finds human remains crammed into a suitcase dumped in the attic. The bones belong to a local child who was reported missing three years ago. The news only gets worse when Roy reveals he was the one who took the suitcase up into the attic at Connor's request, but he insists he had no idea of its grisly contents.

With Connor Long the prime suspect in a murder yet again, battle lines are drawn in Point Clear. Connor's pregnant wife Lillian and girlfriend Sabrina stand by him, but Roy and Emily aren't so certain of his innocence. Nick finds himself trapped in the middle, drawn to Connor by an attraction he's never fully explored, but forced to accept the fact that Connor's hiding something. Connor's brother, Sheriff Thomas Long, hires Nick to investigate and find out the truth, no matter how ugly it may be—but will he regret asking the question once he knows the horrifying answer?

Reis Asher lives in rural Pennsylvania with his husband and 3 cats. He is the author of the nonbinary thriller Killing Games, published by NineStar Press, and the Nick Fabian series of transgender detective novels. He is transgender and bisexual, and doing his best in these tough times.

He chose his pen-name based on the main character in Killing Games, and owns the fact that it's probably cringe to name oneself after a fictional character. So of course, he did it twice.

“Old Bones” is the third installment in the “Nick Fabian” series, and once again Reis Asher delivers. Nick Fabian is facing the small town of Point Clear residence and he will have to live with the fall out of lines being drawn.

With his birthday, Nick Fabian, finds himself with a house that he and Roy can share. Connor Long has made a gift of sorts of the house. That alone raises questions about Roy’s past and puts ideas in Nicks head. But with the house comes expenses: a loan to be repaid, things to be fixed but Roy is positive that all will work out. Even though the PI business is still a struggle for Nick it may be a turning point.

With Nick’s curiosity about the houses history he makes a horrible discovery in the attic and his dreams start to crumble. Point Clear once again becomes chaotic. Those who Nick now considered friends will turn against him, right or wrong.

He’s called upon by Tom Long, sheriff and it’s a serious conflict. Tom hires Nick as a PI to try and clear Connor, his brother. As the case get’s worse and the lingering outcome of Scott’s Mordas’ murder, Nick no longer want’s to be a PI. But being a PI is in his blood and he can’t walk away from the case.

“Old Bones” is another twisted mystery from Reis Asher. “Old Bones” is a dark, phycological and very emotional story that will effect peoples lives. I also think about Nick who struggles with finances to complete his transition. He never seems to dwell or complain but it has to effect him physically and mentally. But he just seems to do his best. I’m impressed with how Reis Asher, doesn’t exploit LGBT and Nick (trans) sexually or make it the major plot in the story.

I’m so invested in the “Nick Fabian” series. With each new novel it just get’s better and I’m excited to see what Reis Asher has planned for Nick and Roy. Just a note…I really like the cover art portraying Nick Fabian on this one!

WOW another great mystery, yah watch for the ending.
Okay the start continues after book 2 with Nick and Roy giving their relationship a chance. Along with Nick Investigation business in the small town Nick now calls home.
I'll just say their first case was a bit of a surprise for Nick. lol But in more ways than one as they find out later.
Hot sexy scenes included, mystery to solve, and secrets and much more in this book. No dangers in this one but the storyline gets into a dramatic tale.. damm no spoilers you guys.
Landing in a new residence Nick's curious about its history...hmm I'm busting to say more here but it ain't good. A past romance thing between Connor and Roy still isn't forgotten and lays on the surface. Yah they both are in deep do do with what they find in the attic, and Nick vows to help. A case of a child murder grows as evidence is discovered and it tests Nick's limits.
Once I started this book I was hooked. This series can be read as a standalone but I'd recommend them to be read in order. OMG what and ending..wow is all I'm saying, hang on to your seats..

Private Investor and transman, Nick quit the police force and moved to start again and finds a new town and Roy.

I couldn't put this down once I started. I love Nick and Roy, and all their friends. The LGBTQIA+ representation is excellent. The mystery itself draws you in, and I absolutely didn't want to believe Connor was capable of what he was accused of - but I was not expecting who it actually was. This mystery really tugs at your heart strings, and I really felt for Nick and everyone involved. An excellent story overall.
