The first few pages of volume 5 are a bit confusing. It is a summary of major events of what happened between 4 and the story of volume 5 and it is not exactly told chronologically and it also seems the author either confused some of the details of earlier events or forgot to provide them. For example, Ash suddenly has 7 silver medals merely a month after the treant event of 4. Thinks pick up once he arrives at the hot springs though and from there were we get a nice mix of politics (and backstory on Arthur), tech development, a bit of action and romance. It was much like the earlier parts and I liked it even if the romance felt a bit grinchy, especially Ash's attitude towards it. No updates on the nature of demons or the state of the world though. All in all, a fun entertaining addition to the series and I am looking forward to the next volume.

I enjoyed this continuation of the story - and it does resolve a number of plot points, such as 'when and how will they get together already'.. but they also fill in some history that the readers had probably guessed most of, and it is appreciated.
However... I have enjoyed the five volumes thus far, and most places I researched online, people discussing this seem to all really -REALLY- dislike volume 7 which is approaching now.

I also note that while each of the first four light novels took place over multiple years, this one takes place over a much shorter period of time.
