** Author's Note: This book contains content that may be sensitive for some readers. Themes such as cheating, emotional abuse, and assault are depicted. If any of these are triggering, I'd skip this one. You'll get a HEA, but you might hate me until you get there.**
The on-page cheating sex scene with the OW was way more detailed and passionate than the 2 scenes we get with the MCs. 🫤 I might have been able to roll with it if he hadn’t kissed the OW several times AND gone in BARE 🤢 (he uses condoms with the h)… and maybe it would have helped if any of that was addressed, BUT IT WASNT. We don’t even get a good OW confrontation. She just disappears after the vengeful drunken party hookup and she’s never referred to again, even though she was his very recent ex, who obviously runs in the same circles, and not just a random. 😵💫😵💫 I felt like the MCs never really talked about what happened. It’s just brushed away because he gets hurt and has daddy issues.
So, the h gets cheated on by her boyfriend. She transfers to a university four hours away from her home after she ends it with her ex. She ends up finding a room where the H and others (male and female) live. H is not nice, has walls up but feels drawn to h. They get closer, he tells her they can have some fun but that's all it will ever be. Then, five minutes later, he's in love with her. Tells her that, she doesn't say it back because it's like, too soon. They get together because she wants him sooo bad. Then call from home; her good friend (and ex's sister) was in an accident. She goes home after telling him the situation. Ex, of course, wants her back. She leaves her phone unattended, ex answers and it's the H. Oh, no! So, because H has issues, he automatically assumes that ex answering h's phone means she's getting the D from him. Then, like every rational man, he goes to a frat party, and takes girl in bathroom to give her the D. He knows exactly what he's doing. In the meantime, h has called his phone to tell him she loves him because she just couldn't go any longer without saying it to him. The h gets back in town, H makes her say she loves him, realizing he made an epic mistake, then she figures out what he did when he keeps saying "But I thought you betrayed me!" Oh dear. Another guy cheated on her. She breaks up with him, he spirals because he can't live without her. Blah blah blah. He picks a fight, ends up in hospital and h rushes to his side. All is forgiven! (Pretty much.) She realizes he has some Daddy issues because daddy verbally abuses him, so his cheating is understandable. Daddy's wedding, H makes nasty toast, she sees Daddy berating him in hallway and knows that if H ever screws up, it's because Daddy never treated him well and he has issues. But Daddy never cancels his credit cards after outburst and its because Daddy is being indicted. He's going to jail. H goes into counseling. HEA (I guess). The end.

Deliciously Angsty and Deeply Intense and Emotional ride ahead 😍
This one... I was so thrown away by how extremely Intense and nervous it made me feel. You know when there's something so wrong you hate it with everything you are and don't know how you can accept it BUT THE AUTHOR'S BRILLIANT WRITING MAKES YOU QUESTION EVERYTHING, Yeah this one was that kinda roller-coaster ride for me.
Starting off with Sidney moving to a new place, new house, new roommates and new friends. What she doesn't know yet is also a beginning for a new complications.
Her roommates Gabby and Taylor are cool and they all become insta friends. But they also have neighbors who are good friends with the girls. So Sidney suddenly has a gang of guys and girls to hang out with.
The guys are great, Garrett is friendly, Micah is good but Ryan, the minute Sidney encounters Ryan which is him yelling for the new person to move their car, new person being her, she feels he's gonna be trouble in caps.
She knows she has to make a life here and she doesn't want to ruin anything with anyone especially by getting involved with someone so rude.
Ryan is all that complications, bad attitude wrapped up in an attractive package. He is unapologetic, doesn't do relationships not even proper friendships except for his gang.
I initially outright didn't like Ryan at all and kinda questioned why Sidney would want to know a person who is so insensitive and cold towards people.
But slowly as she starts adjusting to her new life and getting more involved with her gang of friends, she doesn't realise when the initial promise of strictly friendship changes into something more with Ryan.
But Ryan is an extremely possessive and Intense guy. When a misunderstanding happens, Ryan does a huge mistake which will cost him everything and make real his assumptions of him never finding love.
WHEN THIS SOMETHING HAPPENED & RYAN BADLY MESSES UP EVERYTHING.. I WAS SO NERVOUS AND SCARED FOR SIDNEY.. LOOKING AT THAT TRAIN WRECK HAPPENING RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY EYES & KNOWING THE CONSEQUENCES.. OMG... I COULDN'T READ FAST ENOUGH WITH ALL THAT WAS HAPPENING.
AHHH. THE EMOTIONS AND ANGST WILL MAKE YOUR TUMMY TURN AND HURT SO GOOD, YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO STOP READING.
AHH.. Honestly I enjoyed this book because of the delicious pull this one made me feel between what should be right or wrong. Not everything is fairytale and yet when you want something how do you balance out between your feelings and getting past things.
I loved how conflicted this book made me feel. I didn't know what to do. But Ryan just does a 180 later in the book. Like when a guy like him falls for someone HE'S CHANGED VERSION IS SO MUCH INTENSE, DARK, DANGEROUS BUT DELICIOUS in a tickling way. The way he gets with Sidney the thin line between madness and sanity... OH my... I was definitely on a whirlwind of deep feels and emotions.
Such an amazing ride definitely no way straight but a zigzag path. AHH.. Loved loved this one. ❤️❤️❤️
***** PLEASE, PLEASE…. RICOCHET HAS CHEATING IN IT!!!!! IF YOU DO NOT ENJOY A STORY WITH CHEATING IN IT, THIS STORY IS NOT FOR YOU*****
This is a new to me author. And this story is DEFINITELY A ONE CLICK FOR ME!!! Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down.
I don’t like that the author made me fall for Ryan, I couldn’t even disliked him after what he does to Sydney. I fell for his character since the begging and even though I should have dislike him after everything, I just couldn’t. My heart was set on him, and I was actually kind of upset at Sidney. I know, believe me, I freaking know!!!
Do I dislike cheating? YES
Was Sidney reaction fair? Heck yes it was.
Would I have done the same as Sidney? Freaking yes! I would have pushed him away and never set sight on him ever again.
So, why I was so torn and wishing Sydney just took back Ryan?
Why would I wish she gave him another chance when I knew in my heart she shouldn’t?
Ryan did exactly the same thing Asa did!! Yet I find myself disliking Asa and being happy that Sydney would make him feel bad about what he had done, but when she did the same to Ryan….. my heart broke for him!!!!
Be prepared, have Kleenex handy and maybe your favorite drink, you will need it!!!
I received an ARC of this story and this is my voluntary review.
Well... Fuck. I was completely torn over how to review this book. If you have an issue with cheating, do not take the authors trigger warning lightly.
Ricochet ripped out my heart, smashed it to the floor and stomped on it a few times for good measure. It's an emotional rollercoaster of a read and I really don't even know where to start. Syd is such a relatable character, her heart, her strength, her convictions. But I can't say I ultimately agree with her choices. Ryan is... a lot. his character is multi layered and goes through a lot of development and growth but ultimately, he still relies on getting away with abnormal shit because "that's just the way he is". And that's not an excuse.
This book is full of raw, biting emotion and so much angst and anguish that makes the characters feel so damn human. The one thing that I kind of pulled me out of it's grasp it the too hurried timeline for my taste.
Make sure you are well stocked with tissues and ice cream, because YOU WILL ugly cry.
For me, this was a collection of my least favourite tropes. I struggled whether to rate is 2 or 3 stars, but ultimately I realized what I liked about it does not change the plot. The plot is the story and I should rate based on the plot, so 2 stars.
Each thing I liked in the story was countered later at some point. It was a an odd dichotomy within the same book. I loved that Sidney was average sized and confident. She calls out how unrealistically gorgeous all the other characters are, but then she follows it up with "my books and butt are too big with a really small waist". I've never rolled my eyes so hard. This character that I thought was an average sized person then complains about looking too much like a Victoria's Secret model.
I understand that there is definitely an audience for this story - Hardin and Tessa are getting 4 movies after all so people clearly love this kind of story. If you loved After and are here for possessive rake's changing their ways for insta love, you'll probably love Ricochet and I do recommend you read it. I did read After and this is the same book, down to every plot beat:
Girl who had a high school boyfriend goes away to college. She meets her new super friendly roommates who are close with a group of guys. One of the guys immediately starts pursuing her. Roommates warn her that he is not a good guy, we see that he does not treat women well, but he treats her differently than other women...by telling her what she can and can not wear and who she can talk to (nothing more romantic than a controlling father figure right?). Boy has rich daddy issues, they quickly go back and forth between dating, drama, not dating, back to dating and at the end of the book you realize all this has taken place within a month. There are actually more After similarities with the plot, but that would get into spoiler zone.
The author does set up for the series well to follow a different couple in each upcoming story. We are casually introduced to the side characters enough to like them and want to read more about them, but not enough that they took up space in Ryan and Sidney's story.
Lastly, I love sports romances, I love college sports romances, being advertised as a college sports romance is why I picked this up. Sports do not come up. There is a few throw away lines about being on the team a few times within the story, but thats it.
Ryan & Sidney love story is a complicated friends to lovers story. They are friends but they are not friends and they do alot of steamy times together. I wouldn't even call them hook buddies because it's more than that. Just get ready for the mid games they play on each other.
Ryan says himself he is a manipulator but when it comes to Sidney he can't do it to her. Is a base ball star at college and he has a interesting with his dad.
Sidney is recovering from heart ache and she is studying Psychology. She has a good heart but her ability to trust people is low.
They are truly made for each other because Ryan knew he trust is low and he trying to show her she can trust him. But is it enough...no spoilers End of Chapter 21 is one of my fav part of their love story. Ahhhh there is so many more fav moments with their love story.
This book is perfect from their love story, friendships AND I love that it based in college. Oh and get ready for the emotional ride of a love story !
2.5-3 stars. Not a particularly memorable read. Ryan comes off stone cold and impassive, but yet he falls instalove with Sydney. The dude’s got issues galore, which is explained by his background and upbringing, but not in enough detail. When he does the 180 and turns into an insecure mushball, that already seemed uncharacteristic. Never mind the incident of self-destruction (unfortunately, this didn’t draw out the angst and drama like I had hoped) and his method of self-flagellation afterwards. Not sure if I would call it a grovel, but he did come off pitiful and it was a bit much to take in. Again, that just didn’t fit with how he was initially described. As for Sydney, I liked her, but she wasn’t enough to make me like the story more. It lacked emotions that I could truly feel alongside with the characters although I did have a little empathy for them at times, nothing more.
This was a blind read for me, I saw the author name and said, "YES PLEASE!"
POSSIBLE SPOILERS
The preface warned about certain triggers some readers might be upset by. Cheating isn't my favorite thing to read, I usually can't get passed it either. However, I did this time.
This isn't a book about 'perfect' love, it's about REAL love. Which is painful, confusing, and often times unstable. Perfection is NOT the norm folks. Real, bone deep, relationships are not always flawless.
Don't go into this if you expect this story to be happy the entire time, it's REALISTIC. Ryan had to put in some serious work here, he's a trainwreck honestly but, he's also incredible. Sidney had her demons and she grew just as much as he did.
I can't wait to see this series unfold, it's going to be epic!
I’ve only read a few books written by Cole Lepley, but I knew after reading those that I was hooked on her work… However, it’s been a little while since I last read her work and I have to say that since then it’s amazing how much she has improved on her writing. This book it shows you how much stronger she is within her writing and that she’s not afraid to try something that she’s not written before, but either way it shows that she does take on board when she gets readers give feedback in their reviews. I’m so impressed at how far she’s come and being completely honest, I have to say that this is her best book by far. For some reason this book just meshed really well with her writing style, the characters were incredible, the plot had everything you could want, the drama, the heat, the chemistry. I love how she wrote Ryan; he wasn’t the type of bad boy that you usually get, but then it was also refreshing because it’s clear that there’s a lot beneath the surface to him. He has his mood swings, his temper, can’t help but be rude to people, but at the same time he’s not one to sugar-coat things just so that it pleases people. Most of the time when it comes to the main guy, he’s either all too sweet or he’s way into the bad books, but this time it’s a mix of in-between, but still, it’s different and refreshing which makes it just that more incredible. I honestly couldn’t fault this book, it had me hooked until the end and I found myself just wanting more and more. I’m really excited to see what else Cole has planned for both Sidney, Ryan and the rest of their friends as it’s clear that things have only just began and there’s a lot more waiting to happen.
Sidney has literally spent the last few weeks arranging everything so that she’s able to transfer mid-semester, the only thing she had to worry about want finding accommodation… However, luck was in store for her as she ends up finding somewhere within her first day and surprisingly enough, Taylor doesn’t seem all that crazy. Choosing to move in with them, she ends up meeting the tall, rude, moody Ryan. Unable to figure out what’s going on inside her head, she does her best to keep him out of her thoughts, but that doesn’t seem to work out all too well for her. With the bickering between them whenever they are in the same space as each other, Sidney finds herself feeling things for Ryan that she knows she shouldn’t and does her best to keep her feelings and heart in check. Yet when Ryan shows her that there may be more to him that meets the eye, will she be ready to dive into it or will she do what she’s been warned to do by the others and stay clear of him?
Sidney York thought her life was all mapped out, but then her boyfriend did the unthinkable and completely shattered any future plans that they had. She was at a complete loss and needed an escape, so she packed her bags, and headed as far away as she could get. Transferring colleges mid-year isn't ideal, but it's what she has to do to heal and find herself again.
But nothing could have prepared her for what she finds on that campus though... the moment she meets her new roommates they make her feel like she has been their friend for years... it's as if she is part of their family. And then she meets her neighbor Ryan Wilkes and all it takes is one look to know her already battered heart is in trouble...
Ricochet is a heart-wrenching story of new beginnings, friendship, healing, and finding that forever kind of love. Ryan's love and attention was an unexpected gift to Sidney, she never thought she would find something so special so soon after losing so much. Sure, he is a little rough around the edges, blunt, and hard to figure out... but underneath all of that is a man just wanting acceptance and love. They had their many ups and downs throughout the story, but as we all know love isn't perfect, sometimes it's messy and unpredictable. What these two found amongst all the darkness that surrounded them was something beautiful and worth holding on to.
There wasn't a part of this story that I didn't love, it was as close to real love as you can get, it was messy, challenging, sometimes heart-wrenching, but they held on tight and didn't give up. Throughout the whole ordeal I was right there with them holding out hope they'd eventually find their way... and they didn't disappointment. This was such a good story, from beginning to end my heart was in my throat, and my eyes permanently glued to the words. It was impossible to let go until I had read every wonderfully penned word! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
This emotionally charged story captured my attention from the very start....
Cole is a new to me author and I was beyond excited to jump into this first book in her new series. What I found as I read was the most intriguing, realistic, and quite frankly.. compelling story I've read in a long time. So real at times, that I felt as though I was watching these characters in a movie playing right before my eyes.
This is not an easy love story...it's beautifully flawed imperfect and messy. It's like a train wreck waiting to happen and yet impossible to ignore...
Like the title promises, Ricochet will have you pinging back and forth between it's themes and emotions until you reach it's intended target of Ryan and Sidney's HEA....
This story is an honest exploration of relationships after infidelity. It's heartbreaking, yet hopeful and filled with challenges. It's a love story that is fought for and hard won....
From beginning to end, I found myself on this journey alongside Ryan and Sidney. It's an utterly engrossing story that demands to be read and will have you totally invested in its outcome....
*I was generously given an ARC copy of this book for an honest review *
!!This book contains cheating and could be a trigger for you!! But it is soo worth it!! Just don’t start it late at night, you won’t be able to put it down!
This is the first time I have read anything from this author. Let me first say that any author that can get me to cry and truly connect with the characters of a book are instantly added to my favorite author list and Cole Lepley has been added!
It was like reading my life. I felt a connection with Sidney because I was her before. I fell in love with Ryan when I didn’t want to because he was just like my husband! My heart broke for Ryan. Is cheating okay? Never. But they way that he went about it to fix things with her and make things right is what stole my heart. His back story is is heartbreaking. His life is heartbreaking. But their magnetic pull is EVERYTHING!!! You will not regret reading this story! I’m so ready for the next book to come out!
I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving a free copy.
This is the first book in a new series and is Ryan and Sidney’s journey. Sidney has a broken heart after her cheating ex-boyfriend stomped all over it, and makes the decision to transfer colleges mid-semester, where she is welcomes by her new roommates, apart from one. Ryan is rude, moody, entitles, and complex, but there is some thing that draws him to Sidney. This is a well written emotional roller coaster, which is raw, gritty, intense, heartwrenching, and with angst, turmoil, and friendships, which leads to a riveting and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend. Be aware of the trigger warning due to sensitive content.
What I loved: 1. Ryan!! He was the type of H I love to read about. A broken, broody bad boy playing the field type. A rough past that led to his struggles with people. 2. The love between them was obsessive and I loved it, sooo much chemistry! They were hot together. 3. So much angst! There is cheating but I loved it anyway. 4. Baseball romance but didn’t revolve around it too much 5. The group of friends is great and is set up for more books but idk if the author has written any since this?
What I didn’t love: 1. Low spice, which was a shame cuz these were so hot I would have loved to see more of them getting down and dirty!
First read by this author and I feel compelled to leave a review. I actually drove into this one because I’m all for a cheating trope atm. And this one delivered in more ways than one. I’d like to say that Ryan was unlikable but as the characters developed we got a better understanding of what made him tick. He was a complicated character. Sidney, had her own demons, was she a door mat noooo. For me she was strong but fragile and broken. I could see her thought process with Ryan and see why she made the decisions she did. All in all was a good read for me

This book was a fast read for me and I had a hard time putting it down. Sidney and Ryan had their issues, but I loved their chemistry.
Cheating is usually a trigger for me, but this author wrote these characters so well that it didn't bother me so much. It was a realistic storyline and Ms. Lepley made me love these characters, flaws and all.
ARC Review of Ricochet by Cole Lepley * * * * * A great read for those wanting a little spicy drama in their day. Ryan and Sidney are people have both been burned, twisting their lives and lashing out. But between each other, they can see the lies and the bull. Taking a chance on one another is a risk. How much can they take? How far will they break? Very much enjoyed!
This book was amazing and I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Ryan and Sidney are somewhat perfect for each other despit everything going against them. Sidney is looking for a fresh start and Ryan is trying to stay out of trouble. Will this college badboy fall for the girl who has her heart closed off to everyone. This was such a good book and it won't be my last by this author.
I usually like the men in my stories to be strong, handsome alphas. Whereas, Ryan here is not likeable at all! I couldn't understand why Sidney had feelings for him from the start. Let alone after he cheated! It sure made for a very interesting, raw, real story. Well written. Well told. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from Hidden Gems.
When you have to go back and reread sentences or paragraphs to try to figure out what was happening, not a good sign. Almost like the author was trying too hard. Ryan is a moody sob and the h was too wishy washy.

If there is ever a redeemable MC, it's Ryan. Even when he did what he did I still loved him and wanted to hold him. Not sure what that says about me lol but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of him and Sidney in Micah's book.
I really like this book, but I expected more grovel from him… I think she forgave him too quick what seemed odd after the talk she had with her ex. I’m looking forward to Micah book, so I’ll be able to read more about then, as we don’t have an epilogue 😞
Wow! A very intense book with hot chemistry!!! It’s my first time reading this author - and now I’m addicted! Great job! Can’t wait to see more in the series!
