A Deal With a Demon #1

The Dragon's Bride

Rate this book
Briar Rose might have a name out of a storybook, but she learned at a very young age that no prince was coming to save her. She’ll have to save herself. Unfortunately, even that is an impossible task in her current situation—trapped in a terrifying marriage to a dangerous man.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, which is how she finds herself making a deal with a demon. Freedom from her husband…in return for seven years of service.

She expects the service to be backbreaking and harsh. She doesn’t expect to be put on an auction block in a room full of literal monsters and sold to the highest bidder.

To Sol.

A dragon.

He might seem kinder than his fearsome looks imply, but she knows better than to trust the way he wants to take care of her, or how invested he is in her pleasure. In her experience, if something seems too good to be true, it certainly is.

Falling for Sol is out of the question. She’s suffered enough, and she has no intention of staying in this realm…even if she leaves her heart behind when she returns to her normal life.

Here to make it known I’m available for a dragon to make me his bride.

Why the fuck was this so sweet? I’m out here catching feelings. And I loved it!

First of all, that cover alone deserves several stars.

Secondly, there was some depth here I wasn’t expecting. Because… monster fuckin’.

But besides that, we have a woman who’s made a bargain with a demon? to get herself out of an abusive marriage, and then ends up being auctioned off to a dragon.

A marriage-of-convenience ensues with a stipulation of the ‘contract’ ending after 7 years. She gets to be safe and the dragon gets a baby out of this arrangement?

Don’t ask me questions.

This was so much fun to read. Katee Robert, man. Coming out with stories we didn’t know we needed. Pure fantasy and I enjoyed the heck out of this.

4.5 stars 🌟

Can I just say how much I love this cover!! It's like an old bodice ripper but with a freakin' dragon holding the little lady. Awesome!

But....

I'm kinda hella disappointed with the story.

I couldn't get into it. Both the H and h were too tentative and trepidatious because of the h's past of domestic abuse. Except when they had no holds barred sexathons. But I couldn't even enjoy my weird, two cock, dragon smut because I wasn't really invested in the characters. Plus the conflict in the story was one of my biggest pet peeves...conflict for no reason except non-communication.

Y'all, I'm so upset by this. I'm down for monster love. The weirder the better. One of the hottest books I ever read was Your Dad Will Do by Katee Roberts, so I was expecting FIRE. Instead I get this Dragon biting the lower half of the h's body, leaving bloody teeth prints on her stomach and ass to eat her out. Like he put his dragon mouth with it's upper jaw on her stomach and his lower jaw biting her ass, so he could get his tongue to her magic spot! What?!

Sadly, this wasn’t exactly the monster romance I was hoping for. Yes, the hero is a humanoid dragon/lizard and yes, he has two dicks, but we never get any double penetration here, so it's like what's the point. He’s very sweet and mellow, which was nice, but also a little underwhelming. The romance is strange because I never really saw why either of them fell for each other. And the book is an awkward 200 pages, which means there isn't enough time to develop anything – not the world, not the characters, let alone the romance, so I couldn’t get into this as much as I wanted to. If it was straight up 100 pages of monster/dragon smut, I would've been totally fine with it, but it seemed like KR actually tried to do some world-building, but it just didn't work.

-1 star for the lack of DP. what’s the point of giving the hero 2 dicks and having him stick his tail in the heroine's ass if he didn’t stick his dick in too? 💤

I press the tip of my tail into her. She spasms around my cock, but I hold her steady. “Take it, bride.” Just a bit more, just enough to fill her up. I stare at the pretty sight of my tail in her ass and my cock in her pussy. “Yes. This.”

the smut was essentially the only thing i cared about and it was pretty hot ngl. i liked how aggressive the hero would become especially when other people showed the heroine attention 😍

⚠️Trigger Warning: Mentions of Domestic Abuse, Overtly Sexual Themes⚠️

This review may contain some minor spoilers

So, I was in the mood for some filthy, ridiculous monster smut...I was not disappointed!! I am a big fan of erotica, but I have never read anything like this before. In fact, I have never thought of anthropomorphic dragons as sexual beings or romantic interests (dragons who can shapeshift into humans don't count!!) I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even though there was hardly any plot. That's not why one would read this, though. It is also an easy read, about 200 pages, and there wasn't much conflict, either. Oh...and there's an insane amount of weird sex. It made little sense, but that made it all the more fun. Besides that, if there is one thing I like about the book that has nothing to do with smut, it would be its stark emphasis on the difference between monstrous looks and monstrous behaviour. You wouldn't think a monster-smut book would have such depth, yet there you go. Oooh!! And it has a cute little map at the beginning to show you where all that weird sex is happening. 👍🏻👍🏻

In addition, despite going into this for absolutely no other reason than the aforementioned and having literally no expectations other than the obvious, I was surprised by how much I actually liked the characters. Briar Rose, the female protagonist, has an unexpectedly deep and complex character, even though she does have a really hard time deciding whether she wants to bone the dragon. More specifically, she says she doesn't but then just...does it. Not that I'm mad about that. In any case, she has a deeply traumatic past, as her human husband physically abused her for many years, which forced her to make some questionable choices in order to escape. Fortunately, those choices lead to the lizard-human hybrid hunk she now calls her husband. Speaking of which, Sol, the lovely gentleman dragon, while lacking much of Briar's depth of character, represents the juxtaposition of a monster with a pure heart, as opposed to the human pile of garbage that Briar was married to before. He is exactly what Briar needs after everything she has been through. This is what makes their relationship work so well and why it is so enjoyable to read about. It does move pretty fast, though, with them growing feelings for each other about four days after they met. I'm not big on insta-love, but like I've already said, this is not why I picked up the book in the first place, so it doesn't really bother me. Honestly, I couldn't focus on anything other than the smut while reading it. THE GUY HAS TWO PENISES. TWOOOOO!!! AND A TAIL!!! THAT HE USES LIKE A PENIS!!! Do you understand what I'm saying???? Do yaaaa???? Also, the penises retract back into his body after sex, and there's absolutely no explanation given for it at all. Is it something that happens to lizards? Do I even want to look into it? 👀👀 Probably not...

Aside from the two main characters, some other secondary characters that intrigued me. More specifically, two demons that snuck their way into my heart and stayed there. Keep in mind that I had no intention of getting attached to any character in this book. I was only in it for the sex. It's like catching feelings for your sex buddy. Regardless, I love Azazel and Ramanu. They're kind and gentle for demons and are definitely better than Briar's human husband. They are protective of the women they bargain with, even though the circumstances they put them in are highly questionable. Azazel is a stoic, grumpy kind of character, whereas Ramanu is a non-binary menace to the monster realms, hilariously so. They may not appear in the story as often as I wanted them to, but when they do, they steal all the attention. I especially love the not-so-subtle easter eggs thrown here and there, hinting at their own storylines, along with the storylines of all the other girls and their monsters. In fact, there's a novella about Ramanu and their love interest that I can't wait to get into. As for Azazel, there's no book yet, but I know it's coming, and I can't wait. I think it might even end up being my favourite. Honestly, I have a feeling I will finish all the books within a few days. I'm too invested now.

If you're stressed, read some monster smut. You will not be disappointed.

That's it? I'm genuinely curious to know what y'all are seeing and loving here that I'm evidently missing.

There was nothing here. It was... impressively bland. I felt ABSOLUTELY nothing. Akin to watching a lawn chair fucking an air fryer while someone reads you a warranty agreement. That was the level of intrigue for me.

Now... the cover, bitch? Fantastic. I would literally frame a print of it in my house. The additional star is for the cover— the book is a 1. It read like a rough draft— the general bones of a story without any actual meat.

✨Double dicked up on a Thursday afternoon✨

The cover can slay my dragon any day it is absolutely the only reason I read this book. I was hoping I’d like it enough to buy a physical copy but no dice. I mean I may still buy it because I have issues. It was a fine read if you’re in the market for A+ breeding kink which I guess I was because that absolutely worked for me.

(Fingerfucking his cum back into her is nothing new but it is a classic and just like the cover I sure do appreciate that vintage feel.) On this note, I do wish we actually got to witness the breeding kink with intent of breeding because most times she was on birth control so while it was hot, it was pointless. When they finally made a baby it was off page in the epilogue and we got nothing.

(I loved seeing birth control used as always! But it just felt discordant with what the buckets of cum being shoved into her were trying to accomplish. And I liked how she was like I want time before we have kids I really did, but I was also like…b r e e d her. )

I will say however, Katee absolutely missed the part where she gave this giant lizard fucker two cocks. Briar basically just used it as a parts not sold separately attachment to stimulate her clit which was fine? But seriously T W O cocks and you don’t DP? Sure he used his TAIL to take her ass and it was hot but I must simply ask…why? Why sir do you have two cocks if you’re too afraid to use them?

It was definitely very hard for me to shut the part of my brain off that kept trying to picture a double dicked up on Thursday afternoon crocodile lizard man with sentient thoughts having emotional conversations I gotta be honest.

When I did manage to duct tape my brain, Sol’s POV just read like a contemporary dude and we know how I feel about that lol. I like pampering but this came close to babying and that’s just not for me. I didn’t like either one of the two main characters and I felt zero heart connection to either or both. The writing style didn’t help matters either.

The book was somehow both too long and too short. I wanted more steam and less clunky paragraphs of “world-building” exposition. We only got three sex scenes and I simply wanted more because why do you think? But then by the end the book just ended randomly and I was like??? In the content notes Katee talked all big about this epilogue. Well this here epilogue wasn’t even in the book. You had to download it from her newsletter which is normally fine but this book is literally not complete without the epilogue so it shouldn’t be a “bonus.”

It ended randomly because the inciting incident for the third act “drama” was so horrible. Our double dicked up monster man ripped off her birth control pendant which she let him do but then the main demon guy thought it wasn’t consensual and I guess I was confused too?

Anyways he was like bet come with me double dick you’re going to jail or damnation or whatever the fuck and Briar was just like “…” she literally could not say one word that made sense nor mattered. She suffered from the “she’s so lovable because she calls everyone an ass” tendency I see in fantasy. So she got all angry but wasted time just stammering instead of spitting facts. It was just all so unnecessary and took time away from them becoming a couple that had any real depth because boom double dick is back and the book is over.

Also is this supposed to be Beauty and the Beast or Sleeping Beauty? Because Katee tagged this as Beauty and the Beast but named her Briar Rose and I’m so sorry but I despise that.

Overall, I don’t think it was bad but it wasn’t much more than monster fucking to me. I appreciate the attempted world-building but really I would’ve wished for absolutely no context to anything happening. I think that would’ve been less distracting and far more interesting. More steam less fantasy-esque details. Will I read book two about this tentacle porn kraken man? I’ve gotta admit I’m intrigued. Maybe since she already explained the world here, that one will be more of a no holds barred bonkers time.

I knew I had to read this book when I saw the cover and I ended up loving it!! Briar has decided to sell herself to a demon in order to get out of an abusive relationship. The demon kills her husband, but she has agreed to sell herself for seven years to the creature that wants her. Which ends up being Sol. A dragon. I loved how sweet Sol ended up being and how adorable their relationship was! It was still pretty steamy, but Sol wanted to make sure Briar was comfortable with everything and I loved how quickly they fell for each other! Sol made sure Briar felt comfortable with everything day did, even when it came to the steamier stuff they did. I also loved how Briar ended up defending their relationship at a certain point in the book. This was just so good! I can't wait for the next book to come out!!

2 I've Only Found Delights Stars ⭐

Initial thoughts is how I'm going to roll. This cover may make some feel nostalgic of period romances but it does nothing for me. There is no unseeing that level of ugly while trying to romanticise it in your mind. Plus hypocritically I adore sweet romances but it's a fine line. Do you want a hero that's too gentle and has placed his balls in your handbag? Not really...

We’ve made our beds. Now it’s time to climb into them. With monsters.

As stories go, The Dragon's Bride had potential. Human woman in need of a better life agreeing to be auctioned to monsters from other realms. It doesn't sound great but in this instance, our heroine Briar Rose leaves behind an abusive husband. For her, this is the better option.

Sol needs a human bride to enrich the future of his people. An heir mixed with human blood would make them prosper. He has seven years to convince a skittish Briar that it could be so much more than an arrangement. And Briar might not be keen on marriage again, however riding two dicks seems to help.

It's weird because I really had no intention of reading this. Book covers play a real part in my choices (shallow but true) and I wish I held firm. I didn't enjoy the personalities of both characters. From traumatized to sex fiend and a hero that was insipid. What never disappoints are the hot sex scenes by this author but it's like they were out of place with the underdeveloped storyline provided. Monster romances require serious imagination to make them sexy and believable and this missed the mark.

BR with Rain. I wish I could say I picked us a winner. But nope.😔

Ok this isn’t good. Like at all. But I thoroughly adored this little slice of smut because it was such a fast read and I really needed to disassociate from a terrible day.

NOTES :
- TWs: the FMC/Heroine is a woman running from her ex husbands spousal abus3,
- I tagged this in the ‘things escalated quickly category’ because there was not only insta-attraction but prettty quickly in there were two lizard penises (or peni? Lol is that the plural of penises?) anyways… two dicks on one dragon trying to knock up one human chick. It got WILD… real quick.

Again, though - SUPER helpful for getting your mind off an awful day and into the gutter 😂😂😂

this is my favorite read by this author yet! I truly had a really good time with this. the basic premise (depicted with this 11/10 book cover) is that our mc is fleeing from domestic abuse, and makes a deal with a demon for seven years of consensual service, in a different realm, where she will be auctioned off to a partner who is looking for a human partner. and she is quickly secured by a dragon lord who is in need of a human life to make his land, maybe on the brink of war, more secure. and i highkey loved the setting of our love interest’s land/kingdom? like, give me a full story set here, i am begging! but what i also really loved about this was just the themes of reclaiming all the things - sex, boundaries, trust, your safety, your pleasure, and yourself in general. it was really beautiful, and i promise this is the highest of three stars, and i really recommend!

content warnings from the author (may have spoilers for your reading experience, so please use caution/only read if you need tw/cws): domestic abuse (historical, off-page, but the heroine is dealing with the aftermath of getting out of that relationship), murder (off-page), human/non-human sex, size difference, explicit sex, breeding, pregnancy (epilogue)

additional trigger + content warnings i found while reading: anxiety, panic attack symptoms, mention of blood, mention of loss of parents in past, talk/fear or war, nightmares, self harm to get blood for a spell

The Dragon's Bride really gave me marriage of convenience, monster romance, and "Touch her and I'll unalive you." I had such a fun time reading it; it's a short read full with steam and heat! No plot just smutty vibes, exactly. You get right into the middle of it and I love that because whenever I start reading a fantasy book or any book in particular, you need to wait until like 20% for the story to actually start, but that's not the case with this one.

Briar has just sold her soul to a demon for seven years of servitude. Running from an abusive husband, Briar feels like it's the only solution to her life right now. Instead of gruesome work, this demon puts her in an auction and she is taken by a dragon king. Sol, the dragon king himself, needs a human wife. It's a good thing he's about to have one for seven years only... Unless they want to keep at it for longer.

I love that there is so much consent in this novel. Even though she was just in an auction and a dragon chose her, the details about the contract Briar is in are so interesting and very consent positive. Like the monster cannot harm her in any way; they also cannot do anything if she isn't agreeing with it. The only thing the contract says is that she must give the monster a chance to seduce her. If it works, fine. But if it doesn't, she does not have to fear that someone is going to make her do anything, because that is against the rules. There's a clear power inbalance and I love that Katee gave us so much consent between Sol and Briar. He truly is the most caring, lovable dragon you'll ever meet. Plus he has two c*cks.... yeah. You should read it.

There's breeding kink and primal play in this novel if you are interested to know. This novel is wild in terms of the steam. I WAS BLUSHING WHILE READING EVERY SEXY STEAM. No, but seriously... Katee Robert is a master of writing smut. Love that. I cannot wait to read the next books in this series, I feel like they're going to be so much more fun. I know Katee is going to give us Azazel/Eve book at the end BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE THAT'S THE MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK NOW FOR THIS SERIES. I know they're going to hit so hard.

Content warning for domestic abuse, murder, breeding, light choking, injuries for blood magic, and size difference.

pros: i read this in one day, dirty talk was on point, incredible

cons: i cant do monster smut in books where the love interest has a non-human face where they can't kiss the main character. kisses are essential to plot. also there were only 3 sex scenes in this? and idc about the plot and im not into tentacles so i dont think i'll continue the series

Dragons are my thing....but this? What was this? I'm sitting here writing this review and I can't even remember the heroine's name. That tells you how much I was invested in this story. The dragon's name was Sol and I love that name but it was tainted by this character in this story. The heroine makes a deal with a bargainer demon and has to marry a dragon for 7 years. At the end of 7 years she can leave but if she has a child, the child cannot return with her. Sol intends on seducing her but she has trauma from domestic violence from her now deceased husband who the demon killed. So 180 pages of what exactly you ask? I don't even know.

description

There was nothing sexy about this story and the characters were flat and underdeveloped. I'm not even sure I'm interested in future characters in this series now. Too much time was spent on the heroine's trauma...o Briar that's her name...and then she jumped right into bed taking 2 dragon dicks. And Sol thought it was perfectly normal to basically bite her in half to eat her out. Not to mention they can't actually kiss. Briar just eats his tongue...or something.

I didn't like this and like I said I am all for monster smut and dragons. This didn't work for me at all.

For what this was—it was good. However, I can't deny my giggling like a child at some points because some stuff was funny in a cringe way. Like when the dragon chased the fmc after swimming in the lake. How I pictured it in my head, I just was laughing so hard.

I found the fmc kinda annoying but the most disappointing thing was the fact that the dragon had two dicks made for DP and DP wasn't in the book... WASTED OPPORTUNITY. hahahaha

Oh, also... can authors please stop using the word "seed". blegh

Overall, this was just some great entertainment.

*2.5* Meh. This story could have been so good, but it was kinda boring and the characters felt undeveloped. While the steam was hot, sadly the H's dual appendages were not used to their full potential.

The sticking point for me was Briar's immediate attraction to Sol. On the very first page she's covered in wounds from her abusive human husband, I would think she needs more than a few days to mentally heal before hopping aboard the dragon train.
“Seven years and then you’re free.” I was married to Ethan for thirteen. Surely I can survive this dragon for half that. A small price to pay for freedom.
It bothered me that the demon Azazel had been It would have added another layer to the story had Sol been meeting a human for the first time.

I think I liked the story slightly more than my BR reader, Isabella. Go read her review it's a perfect summary. ☺️

Welp. I never thought I’d pick up a book about a dragon and a human, said dragon having two peens, but this is where my life’s choices have led me. I honestly put this book off for a long time, but it was actually delightful!! Briar makes a deal with a demon to save her from her long time abusive marriage. She’s tried everything to get away from him, and he found her again and beat her up. Azazel kills her husband and secures a bargain for seven years.

Sol is a dragon leader, and is seeking an arranged marriage and heirs. While Briar isn’t sure that she wants to deliver on that one, she does marry Sol. Sol is really stoic and kind of holds himself back from Briar at first. He’s really sensitive and hates that Briar was abused for so long and he tries to treat her with kid gloves. Briar has had just enough of that, thank you very much!

I really liked these two!! The spice was unique and super hot, and I really liked that he fell in love with her first, and his inner feelings were so sweet and snuggly! And I loved that Briar really came into her own and learned to find her backbone and take what she wanted for herself. Can’t wait to read the next one!!! Though I’m a little concerned about the kraken’s…tentacles.

He… look, he has… he’s a dragon, right? Like kind of a humanoid dragon? He actually isn’t, I’m just saying that. He’s a regular dragon. He has more than one… he has, like… it’s a book about a dragon with two dicks. He’s got two. He can speak English, which either helps a lot or makes things worse, I don’t know. Is it a good love story? If you can get past the dragon-with-two-dicks thing then yes. Was I able to do that? A little, which just presented a bunch of other questions I’m not prepared to explore. I guess just… just trust your gut.

The plot in this book reminds me of my love life… nonexistent😍. Nonetheless, this confirmed that I don’t completely hate all that ✨monster nonsense✨. I figured, since I’m obsessed with anything Beauty and the Beastesque. I should probably take that to therapy. Most memorable quote was something like “TWO?!🤯🤯” *gobsmacked*. If you like hissing and shenanigans, this short book is the one🤪

2.5 stars⭐️ and prayers for Briar. Idk how sis didn’t need a wheelchair. Nothing makes sense but it’s fine. Also, I’m still confused🤨. How was there time for those oddly sweet moments when there was all that dang pApErWoRk? When a dragon with pants can multitask😢✊. What an experience…

I’ve said it before but it’s worth mentioning again. My biggest interest in monster smut is an unrestrained curiosity and titillation. What’s this monster working with?

So, when I found out Katee Robert, the queen of smut was publishing a dragon book I was all over that. And she certainly didn’t disappoint. I don’t want to give all of Sol’s many glorious attributes away. But let me just say … holy smokes. Get it? Smoke? Dragons? Lol, I crack myself up.

Anywho, while I obviously enjoyed all the steamy goodness The Dragon’s Bride did have more to offer. Such as pretty good world and relationship building.

I like that these five human women agreed to bargains with the demon Azazel. I’m excited to meet the other couples in this series, especially Azazel and Eve.

The growth between Sol and Briar was lovely, they built something out of nothing. Everything that ensued between them was entertaining. Most spectacularly the steam, like seriously if I could get just an ounce of what Sol’s laying down, I’d die a most satiated woman.

Can’t wait for the next installment with the Kracken monster. I’m certain there will be a ton of tentacle and suction action … swoon.
