Blood & Fangs #1

Soul Bitten

Rate this book
My wolf didn’t appear when she was supposed to. Now I’m an outcast.

On the full moon after my twenty-first birthday, I was supposed to go through my first shift. Instead, I was left to huddle alone in the cold, a failure who couldn’t do the one thing expected of her. Now, I have no mate and I’m wondering if sticking with the pack is even worth it. Maybe it’s time I live among humans.

That’s when a vampire shows up at my door and says he wants to claim me. While I might not know what I am, I’m pretty fricking certain that I’m not going to be mated to a bloodsucker. He might be a good friend, but that’s all he’ll ever be to me. Isn’t it?

The truth is a lot weirder than that, though, because his presence has spurred a revelation from my mother about a dark family secret. A secret that she says I’ll have to solve if I want to survive the next full moon. I’ve got less than two weeks to discover the truth. What I find could kill me, but that might just be the better option …

Riley is one of those early-morning people you love to hate, because she swears she doesn't need caffeine, even though the coffee-maker is connected to her smartphone. She lives in a three-story townhouse by the good graces of a tabby-cat who rules the house, the couch, the table, well, basically everywhere. When she's not groveling for forgiveness for neglecting to pet her kitty enough, Riley is strapped in to her writing chair coming up with crazy worlds where she can make her own decisions of when feeding time is and how much coffee can be drank without her friends--of which she has three--holding yet another intervention that they threaten to post on the internet.

This is the first book in the series about Jo.
Jo is a strong woman and a wolf shifter although she didn't shift yet.
Her mother is on drugs since her birth but now had a clear moment and putting Jo on a search for Fernir. She does that together with Aaron.

Jo hopes to get the answers from Fernir, about what the secrets her mothers holds. But for that she first has to find him.
A search brings her to many places, and realms.
Using a gift she got from het best friend Dani, which gives her something extra.

I like how Jo talks and acts. And the sparks and chemistry between her and Aaron.

Can't wait to read more in this series, especially after reading the last chapter

the main character

Is just so annoying. She doesn’t listen properly and consistently does dumb things. Hence, I skimmed a lot. Still, the writing is not bad.

This book was horrible. It was a continuation of the first series “Soulbound” or something like that, but it was said to be a standalone by the author. If you didn’t read the previous trilogy, so much understanding about Aaron and Fred, especially them, and the rest of the vampire crew would be lost to you. Inside jokes and information would fall flat and you would feel utterly lost.

I read the three book set and I don’t see that here on Good reads so I have to go to each book to leave a review… which sucks. Anyway, I read to about chapter fifteen and then tried to stop to write my review on the garbage but it wouldn’t let me. So then I did a search for “prince” since clues in the first trilogy and this one hinted at Aaron being a prince. Well he is one, just not the type I thought. Anyway, that reveal was in chapter 26, and I read on from there. I apparently only missed then going to the fae realm after all those chapters! Wow. That tells you how much filler crap is in this story. There was so much in the first 15 which is why I was trying to end the book.

Anyway, fillers, nonsense dialogue, just random thoughts that don’t even follow the story… it’s like the author wrote a bit, waited a month or so, then wrote a bit more without verifying what she had actually put in the book vs ideas she had for the book and continued on like that… it was hell. The only reason I continued reading, just like the other series, was that the overall storyline was decent and intriguing, the writing just sucked.

So, I advise you not waste your time. The end.

not as good a first series

Wasn’t as captivating as the first series to me. This book isn’t bad, it just didn’t hold my attention like the first series.

It had been a while since I read the previous series so I appreciated the little reminders throughout the book. Jo is Dani’s best friend, who was supposed to shift on her twenty-first birthday but it’s been a couple of months since and nothing. In a moment of clarity, Jo’s drug addicted mother tells her she needs to find a being named Vanner before the next wild moon. Aaron, a vampire, has volunteered to help her find this being but is also very interested in Jo. And so the journey begins.

My biggest issue is that, Jo has a big mouth to not have any skill, power or strength. I low key feel like Jo and Aaron shouldn’t be together because she’s so hellbent on them not being together and rejecting him. I get that she’s doesn’t think they’ll be long term but geez. Then turns around and picks the vampire team over a shifter team to go get Aaron, when she swears by shifters.

I thought Fred was going to be MIA for a week. Did I miss how he reappeared?

All the Ingredients for Success

I love everything in this book! It's a sequel of the "Soulbound Shifters" serie but you can read it on its own.
What I like in this book specifically?
The MC, Joanna and Aaron are great characters. Joanna is a wolf shifter who haven't shift yet. It's uncommon because it must have happened three months ago🧐 Aaron is a vampire with who Jo is working, capturing villains from the Soulbound Shifters serie (mainly goons from the previous evil alpha of Jo's pack). I love their characters: they are genuine, a bit secretive, sassy but no enemy to lover here, just a friendship who will grow in something else.
The moment when Aaron came to Jo's house just to told her "I want you, I want to claim you" out of nowhere was hilarious and so sweet😂🥰
There are action, a good intrigue with untold secrets, vampires, shifters, faes, gods, and other supernaturals in the story, everything you need!
Look forward next book!

When Joanna's drug addict mother tells her to talk to Vanar only Aaron knows who he is.
Unchanged wolf shifter Joanna failed to Soulshift at the Wild Moon after her twenty-first birthday it was thought that as her mother was a drug addict and her father an alcoholic that they had messed up her birth date. Then her mother seems to come out of the drug induced haze and was holding her birth certificate which confirmed the date and saying Vanar and that Jo needs to and that it is safer for everyone. Only Vampire Aaron recognizes the name.Vanar as short for Vanargand also known as Fenrir the Great Wolf who has been imprisoned for fifteen centuries. So how did her mother know him. Jo must find out before the next Wild Moon.

book 1 is awesome!

So if you haven’t read soulbound shifters series you need to. This series has the characters from the first series and you can understand more when reading this series but that’s just my view.
Anyway Riley Storm did it again with another great start to this brilliant series.
Now we find out why Jo never shifted when she was suppose to and again guys it would help you reading soulbound shifters first
I’m so happy we get to read more from this mixed of demons, vamps, gods, shifters etc it’s so good.
And I’m loving this side of Jo 😍 also we can’t forget the incredible vamp Aaron. He was my favourite in the first series so I’m happy he getting his chance

Bring on book 2

Joe has been looking forward to her first shift, when it does not happen on her birthday she thinks her parents have got the dates confused. In a lucid moment her mother shows her her birth certificate and tell her to find Vanar, Aaron agrees to help Joe. Aaron wants to claim Joe as his, Joe is reluctant and she thinks after she shifts she will meet her mate. She must speak to Vanar before the next full moon the clock is ticking. This is a great first in series and I look forward to Blood Letter next month

In a moment of clarity. Jo's mother tells her that she has to find Vanar so that she can be saved. But who is he?
Aaron wants to claim her - but she is due for her soul shift, and knows her soul mate will appear for her. To help her mother, she goes on a search with Aaron - but will she find what she is seeking? What happened to her mother? What or who is she really? Although this is the start of a new series, it was great to see Dani and Vir and other characters from the previous - loved it! Loads of action, twists and turns!

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW of Soul Bitten by Riley Storm, the first book in the Blood and Fangs series. This story centers on Joanna and Aaron and picks up right after the events in the Soulbound Shifters series. While having read the previous series, it is not necessary to the enjoyment of this read, but does enhance the experience knowing the characters and their past. This deliciously entertaining story is action packed with a hint of mystery and lots of vampire drama. The story culminates in a cliffhanger setup for the next book. So worth the read!

Good book

This is a good book to read. For me, the reason I have 4 stars is because, " I DON'T LIKE CLIFF HANGERS ". When I get a book, I want a start and an ending, a complete book, like watching a movie, a complete story from start to finish.
Too many questions than answers, leaving you non the wiser after finishing the book.
I don't like being coerced into buying the next book just to find I will probably have to buy the next and the next etc. just to get to the end.
Yes it is a good book, but I am seriously disappointed.
I find it hard to find spare cash. If I had known the book was going to be like a soap opera, going on and on, I wouldn't have bothered.

Another great start to a Riley Storm Shifter Series
Soul Bitten Blood & Fangs (Book One), A Soulbound Shifters Novel hooked me right from the beginning as I knew the characters. I was excited to see Aaron the vampire getting another adventure, this time with Dani’s BFF, Jo. We also get more backstory on this man and find out about Jo’s mom who is the catalyst for this hunt.
Like all of Storms’ series this one grabs on and doesn’t let go. This book ends at a pivotal juncture for Jo and I can’t wait to read more.
Im definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment. PEACE.

Nice to read Jo's story separately from Dani's. It picks up basically when Dani's story finishes which is a shame as I would like to have read about when Lars kidnapped her & what happened to her during that time. Nice to read more about Aaron & his team. My suspicions about who Aaron really is have been confirmed but am still guessing about Fred. As the book goes along I started to suspect Jo is also something else which I again guessed correctly & it was confirmed before the book ended so no cliffhanger in that respect. The only annoying thing as always is the poor editing especially where the wrong chaacter's names are so obviously used.

The blurb sounds like this book should live right up my alley, and it was. It’s just that once I met the female protagonist, she basically held me hostage and attacked me with her voice and over-explanations. I totally wanted the vampire to drop her like a bad habit and and find someone less likely to beat dead horses when they should be riding them. I’m just saying.

And once she starts to let someone else’s voice speak, it ends. Abruptly. Not once do the couple share any true intimacy despite it being a romance. But…if you can tolerate the the overuse of narrow, monologue-laden first-person narrative and love paranormal romance as much I do, you may enjoy it. I just can’t.

What a slow burn romance mystery that Elsa on a huge cliffhanger. But it is oh so good. This is book 1 of the Blood and Fangs Series. Joanna is a wolf shifter who hasn’t changed when she should. Aaron is a very old vampire who wants to claim her. Fenrir is also a very old vampire plus a wolf shifter. Jo and Aaron need to find him to discover the secret he knows concerning Jo. Excellent read with lots of shifters, vampires, mystery, and action. Great read!

Searching for Clues to a Mystery . . .

Joanna is a wolf shifter who was supposed to change to her wolf as part of the Soulshift. But she didn’t change. Aaron is an ancient vampire who wants to claim her. Jo’s mother told her to find Fenrir, another ancient vampire plus wolf shifter to get answers. Aaron agrees to go with her and help her find him to see what secret he knows that could help.

As they look further into Jo’s mother’s past, things get more intense. And then they discover the worst secret of all -- who she really is!

An interesting start!

It was fun to see these secondary characters get their own story, and an interesting one at that. Jo is late on her soul shift and her mom comes out of her drug hase to say one word which sets her off on a crazy quest with Aaron. Aaron who wants Jo to be his.

A few of the characters from the last series show up which was nice. The only thing I found hard to believe was that Jo made it so far against these powerful characters with the smart mouth she had. The ending maybe gives you insight into why she is like that. It's a bit of a cliffhanger, too.

A wonderfully well written paranormal adventure that has everything from mystery and danger and includes shifters, vampires as well as mythological beings and gods. Most of all this story has a very spunky heroine who is determined to be part of the team. I loved every nail biting minute of Jo's adventure and couldn't put it down. I'm anxiously awaiting the rest of her story. I read an Advanced copy in Exchange of an

Amazing beginning to a new series. The series does connect to a previous series but can be read separately. I’m loving seeing Jo and Aaron again. Jo just wants to shift and find her soulmate. But evidently there are secrets she never knew about. The truth may change her and destroy all she thought. The story is filled with adventure and danger. The romance is building and only just starting. Can’t wait for the next book.

Adventurous

From start to finish, I wondered what else Jo would have to go through. Though, I have to admit I was wondering if her Alpha was her mate. Alas, I guess we won't find out who her mate is on the wolf side. I don't understand why she's considered a danger, though. Can't she control herself? She's leaving behind so many people that love her. I can't wait to see where her travels take us.

Okay story

Told from Jos POV, the main female character who works with a team of vampires led my Aaron. The worldbuilding needs a little work as Im still a clueless as to what its really about. Aaron has secrets and something is going on with the vampire world. Not sure why Aaron is important. The ending is a surprise and one I wasnt expecting. I will.be reading the next book to get the answers to all of these.

OMG! I loved it! Jo wants to know the truth, but she may not like the answers. Her mother has a lucid moment and she is on a quest to to find answers. Her quest leads to the vampire realm where she will discover the truth of her mother's drug use.
I love Jo's story. Of course, all of these characters are will written and compelling, but Jo is my favorite. She can't figure out why Aaron is so drawn to her, and the answer may shock her, but she will have a choice to make. Exciting action, and unexpected twists in the plot made it impossible to put this book down

Good book

I enjoyed this book very much as I did the three before it. However it drives me nuts when they get the names mixed up. Literally... Jo is called Dani by Aaron and Dave becomes Fred for about three pages, when Fred is not even with the group but in the underworld hiding out...
Drives me bonkers.

I have never read anything like this book, incredibly original and unique this book was very much entertaining. Unexpected happenings are a great part of this book. The only criticism for this book is that it is not a stand alone read. And I really hate cliffhangers. On to the next book for more answers.
