The Not Alone saga is a trilogy of trilogies — each of which can stand alone, but all of which form one epic story.
It all begins with The Contact Trilogy 1) Not Alone 2) Not Second Contact 3) Not The Final Call
... continues with The Discovery Trilogy 4) Not Fractured Union 5) Not Leap of Destiny 6) Not Revelations
... and now extends to The Evolution Trilogy 7) Not The Awakening 8) Not Hidden Wonder 9) Not Endgame
No prior reading is required to enjoy The Evolution Trilogy , which picks up a full decade after The Discovery Trilogy . Maximum enjoyment would come from reading the whole saga in order, but for the benefit of those seeking a broad understanding of earlier events I have included a brief rundown at the start of this box set.
Not Alone is an 'Amazon Most Sold Fiction' certified bestseller, official Audible.com Best of the Year finalist, international and multi-format #1 sci-fi bestseller, and multi-time Kindle Unlimited 'All Star' title.
I had a bit of trouble at the beginning of the book when the author kind of relates what happens in the other books/series prior to this one. I was afraid it would be that kind of narration throughout the book and I almost gave up. However, being a fan of alien stories, I continued on and do not regret my choice. Sure there are times the author repeats himself for what might have happened a few chapters prior but hey, Robert Jordan does it and his fans love it. I stopped reading Jordan, so to say that I don't really like this repetition but Falconer does not exaggerate. Over all a good story for the young and the old (no sex scenes so your kids can read it). We learn to love and hate characters, some more than others, which helps get involved in the story. I cannot talk about my favorite characters because, well, two of them appear later in the story. Piper being one of them. I didn't like that the author felt like he had to repeat to us that she was highly intelligent. Action speaks louder than words. I'd say he learned the old adage along he wrote the story. I'd recommend this series. I haven't read any prior ones and was not lost at all, it that helps.
I met "Dan McCarthy" in Not Alone, the first book I read from Craig A Falconer. I instantly loved the book that has led me to many more of Craig's books. As he said, this trilogy is a stand alone despite carrying over known characters. Piper went from a new born gifted with uniqueness to a teenager. When sudden tremors began, Piper is affected, and not in a good way. The tremors opened the earth, carrying destruction and loss of life. And as they came, Piper wanted to help. But how much does she have to surrender to potentially lose herself? This trilogy is delightful, scary, and definitely mind blowing. Pick this up, new or current Falconer's fans, and be ready for the ride ahead!
This is not Sci Fi. It’s a book of magic. That’s why things happen in this story. It could easily be recast as a story of an evil wizard, coming to conquer the good kingdom. And it would work fine. There is no science, projected into the future or otherwise. There is little logic. Things just happen, like magic. Then there is the writing, so much writing. The author is badly in need of a good editor. I can’t tell you why I finished it, but I wanted it to be much better than it was.
A tremendously entertaining story. Well worth the time. It’s got lots of suspense. Cool heroics, and lovable, relatable characters. The villains are frustratingly villainous and there’s a fair share of entertaining dialog sprinkled throughout. Only complaint is that the prose is a bit wordy…some of it seems to be there strictly to enhance word count. So I found myself skimming…and indeed skipping, entire paragraphs to get back to the storyline. But I can definitely recommend this set without reservations.
This trilogy certainly lived up to expectations! In fact, exceeded expectations. I was fortunate enough to read the second trilogy just after completing the first. I was totally blown away by the twists this trilogy took. Several times I found myself pausing just to wrap my head around the revelation I had just read. They were even more surprising and more impactful than the twists and turns in the first.
This was a very fun although very long read. The hardest part I was going through all of the backstory that I had not read before. And I am sorry I have never read any of Falconer's books before and I look forward to reading more of his books. Hard Sci-fi is one of my favorite things to read, and his was perfect.
Not alone, the sequel, is a good read. The story is basically straightforward, with a few interesting twists. It does suffer from repeating the storyline several times, as if the reader forgot what was read earlier. But overall, reading this was time well spent.
I love sci-fi, particularly those with character driven plots. This whole series is constructed so well, and the characters so roundly fleshed out. It continues from one book to the next almost seamlessly. One caution though, there's a lot of F bombs, way too many!
What a beautifully written piece! The author paints vivid images with their words, making every scene come alive. I felt like I was there, experiencing every moment alongside the characters. The story was heartfelt and touching. It’s one of those rare finds that you want to read again immediately. A gem!
What an imagination...and coupled with the knowledge and ability to make it so plausible for today's readers. Well done! It was impossible to stay away from. I loved it!
While I stayed with the story until the end, the poor grammar was jarring, and the author’s constant references to his characters’ back stories was annoying. This book could have been much better and leaner without these fillers.
A solid story, but it felt like something was missing. The buildup was strong, but the ending left me wanting more. The characters were likeable but didn’t really stand out. It was an enjoyable read, but not one that I would necessarily revisit. A good one-time read.
I struggled to read this. Glacial plot development and incessant repetition. There are only so many times one can read the same information before throwing up one’s arms and walking away. Sorry Craig, but I’ll never read your work again.
I really love the characters and the story line. The only problem is I discovered I haven’t read book 2! But that is ok, because I can go back and read it.
