Pleasing The Prince

Rate this book
I knew it was coming. The letter. The summoning to the palace. A chance to become a concubine in the royal harem.

Every girl in the kingdom must go. I’m not special. But that doesn’t make it any easier to leave behind my childhood sweetheart and my home in the borderlands. And now my mother has ordered me to smuggle in a sword for protection, I’m worried she knows something I don’t.

It’s only a few days. Just a short break in the richest city in the world. It can’t be that bad, can it? If I keep my head down and my mouth shut, I can fade into the background until it’s over.

But I’ve never been great at keeping my opinions to myself.

And when the prince turns out to be the spoilt brat I predicted, I refuse to simper and smile for him like the other girls.

He’s playing us. We’re pawns in his game.

Well, I’m sick of his sport.

If he thinks he can distract me from what’s really going on at the palace, he’s wrong. Something sinister lurks in these hallways. A darkness they’re all trying to hide.

But I will find it. My dignity, my freedom, and my life depend on it.

I’m going to need that sword.

Pleasing the Prince is the first novel in the Cursed Creatures series. It features a strong woman and the men who will come to love her – the group builds throughout the trilogy. Strong language, adult situations, potentially triggering violence, and a cliff-hanger are included. But don’t worry. The second book is coming soon!

Possible Triggers: Discussions of rape, assault, and domestic violence, minor bullying, violence.

Complete writing madness

This is by far the oddest book I've ever read, and I'm at a loss for words. This book is all over the place, every few chapters a new revelation is being told and its all chaos and just crazy story line madness. There is way to much going on! And at the same time no in-depth explanation to anything? I'm so confused about literally everything. I couldn't even tell you who or why exactly this is a RH. She's going through men like nothing, and no real bonds are actually being formed except maybe her fated mate?!?! This story just keeps building on the foundation of nothing, its like a wobbly house of cards, flimsy, falling apart every time you and more. I dnf at 86%

Story and characters lacked depth, though the premise was interesting. Some examples; By the end, it is clear the FMC is more than human, yet it is brought as if this was obvious and known. Or another: She hates the prince, and then suddenly they are madly in love, whereas the whole concept of soulmates was not introduced as part of the world building and if its not, then then this supposed depth of feeling is even more strange.
So yes, an interesting blurb and premise but it lacks the foundation that I need in order for me to want to continue reading.

A woman empowered is a dangerous thing and this heroine isn’t going to rest on her laurels and hope that she isn’t noticed. There is a lot going on in this first book and Dana is trying to figure out things in the castle. She here for one thing and it not the prince. Things take a more darker turn that reveal some truths and we start to see the harem build. There is some promise so have to watch out see how things changed over the course of the series.

I was very surprised how great this book was. The book summary does not it justice. I was expecting another book about a woman who would become queen and love, blah blah. But it wasn’t. It was so well crafted and interesting. Some surprise sex scenes, where I was like whoa, this is happening. I loved the book. Never read the author before and now I am going to look for more from them.

Just can't continue

Ok this book is a mix of inconsistencies. First, it is very well edited with few to no grammatical errors! The alone is worth a star because it is so rare in this genre. Second the writer uses lyrical prose showing significant potential. It is the content of the prose that presents a conundrum. I spent 80% of this book rolling by eyes and exercising my up raised eyebrows. There is so much over the top drama and angst in every paragraph. The mfc seems to undergo massive personality changes every chapter. First she's a moderate farm girl in love with her childhood sweetheart, then she is a raving avenger of all things evil. She has sexual relations with 2 virtual strangers within two days of leaving her only lover. I have absolutely no insight into anyone's character, and the only world background is provided incidentally. Then there is the bizarre addition of magic and the magic sword. The relationship between her and the bff is somewhat redeeming. Finally, I read this book because it popped up on the why-choose website. Then I saw that each of the three books had very few reviews, one of which is basically the same review posted on all three. I figured maybe I could add a review for the author. So here it is. I cannot continue on though which may explain the lack of review for books 2 &3. I do want to encourage the author to try again. Lots of potential.

Not a Meek Little Mouse . . .

Dana has dreaded this moment when she comes of age and is required to go to the Castle of the King of Annantir as one of the debutantes. And what is this great honor? Of course, the ones who catch the Prince’s eye get to be one of the royal concubines! Some of the females actually are happy at the chance – but Dana is not one of them. This practice is oppressive, insulting, and archaic, especially with an entitled, snobby prince.

Dana’s plan is to keep her head down in order to be ignored among the many. Her mother tells her to take a sword for protection – uh, does she know something more about this custom? But Dana is not a quiet, demure young lady. She speaks her mind and guess who notices her?

Yet there is a secret and something evil lurking in the castle. Dana cannot in good conscience leave her friends behind to face this. Now where did she put that sword?

Good story
by C LEE D

Dana and her best friend, Mauve must attend the palace when they turn 18. Dana doesn't want to go while Mauve is eager to go. At the palace Dana lets her dislike for being there known and instead of being sent home she attracts the attention of Dylan, the prince. Magic is forbidden in the palace and nothing seems to be what is presented. This story has steamy interludes and intrigue that keeps you reading until you finish the book. I will be reading the next book.

A promising premise but there was a lot going on and I didn't quite feel the connection between the heroine and the various men. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Very Pleasing

I picked this one up randomly and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed Dana’s adventure with great splashes of spice and unexpected romance. A little slow to start but we’ll worth the journey. This will be an author I watch!

This book was certainly a different read. I loved the FMC how strong she is. Can't wait to read book 2.

Bonus points for FMC being in charge of her own sexuality. Everyone is just TSTL though and evil people are evil without any justification (unless I missed that and if so I'm sorry).

👑PLEASING THE PRINCE👑
Cursed Creatures Book 1
BY Freya Cole

One chapter in and I could already picture the world of Annantir Kingdom so vividly that the details are all still crisp in my mind.

The book is so beautifully written that you feel as though you are actually living the characters lives.

Dana has come of age and must attend the Castle of the King of Annantir as one of the kingdoms debutantes for a chance to become one of the royal concubines.
An idea she finds oppressive & archaic. Dana longs to be free and be the master of her own destiny. All she needs to do is last a few days of laying low amongst all the other hopefuls.

But when a secret is revealed and the presence of a sinister force seems to lurk the castle walls, Dana knows she can’t leave until everyone she loves is safe.

Plot twists, spice & humour have interwoven this story into a book that has left me hanging for part 2 of what proves to be an amazing trilogy.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘So, if you could pass on the message: I’ll be more respectful to the prince, if he stops being a prick.’  🤣
