Princess Salena Nakoa KauPo thought she was over her broken heart. She’d put her first love and childhood sweetheart, Rhyian, firmly in the past where he belonged. His bitter betrayal of her was locked away deep inside, along with her foolishly innocent hopes and dreams. Now Lena has been thrust together with him, the prince of shadows, the one man she could never resist, on a mission to save the world from a terrible cataclysm. Worse, Rhyian refuses to believe her when she says there’s no hope for them.
An Irresistible Longing
Rhyian is rather accustomed to being a failure. Goddesses know, he’s not magical enough for his sorcerous mother and not alpha enough for his father, the King of Annfwn. It hasn’t helped that he’s spent the last seven years trying to drown his sorrows—and to forget the one woman he ever loved, whose heart he carelessly shattered in a moment of weakness. Rhy knows he has to change to win back Lena’s trust, but how?
A Love That Can’t Die
As Lena and Rhy struggle to overcome the wounds of the past, they and their friends approach the final confrontation with the strange intelligence intent on rending apart the very fabric of their world. And it looks like it will come down to the pair of them to strike the final blow.
But only if they can build a new trust on the bitter past.
I enjoyed this book and the series and I am happy that the characters made the objective, grew into the adults they should be and completed the quest.
This wasn’t my favorite of the series - at this point plot armor had gotten too thick - some of the characters should have stayed dead. Also, the defeat of the enemy seemed anticlimactic.
The book does provide good closure to the storylines and there was no way I wasn’t going to read it to find out the ending.
Fantasy romance, wrapping up the series with Lena and Rhyian. Rhyian has been broody and touchy to the point of being annoying in previous books, but I didn't really understand WHY until we hit his POV. Of course he would be resentful of being pledged to Moranu by his parents and rebel against them. He still had to do a lot of growing up this book, but by the end I could buy into his and Lena's happiness.
I loved how the characters evolved over the course of the books and each in their own way. The love story is especially wrenching and lovely in this one and the steam is on par with previous books. An excellent read.
Could not put it down and so sorry when I finished! Each book in the series improved as the story unfolded and I can only hope there will be more tales of the Tala, 13 kingdoms, Dasnaria et al
This conclusion to the tales of the second generation of the 13 kingdoms was wonderful! Each book entwining the same characters, on the same journey, giving each thier own time to shine and take the lead. Thrilling adventure and blooming love amid chaos. The best!
The last pairing of childhood friends in the Heirs of Magic series is brutal. Salena and Rhyian were the first of their set of friends to match together. Sometimes when you find your right soulmate early, you might not be ready for it. Rhyian's lack of maturity damages a potentially beautiful relationship beyond repair. Honestly, Salena should have walked away and never looked back. What Rhyian did is kind of unforgivable.

I really enjoyed this exciting conclusion to the Heirs of Magic series. While Rhyian and Lena spin frustrating circles around each other, the external story keeps the pages turning, raising the stakes in a satisfying way. Rhyian matured a lot over the course of this story, leading to an HEA I could believe in. All in all a satisfying conclusion to the series. I don't recommend starting here, but do think this whole series is perfect for fans of found family and who want a rollicking adventure to go with their romantasy stories. I also loved the way this series featured a different couple for each book, so if that's you jam, I highly recommend it.
