In this opposites-attract Regency romance by USA Today bestselling and HOLT Medallion winning author BREE WOLF, an untamed lady and a proper duke are put to the test when they fall in love against all odds.
An untamed lady. A proper duke. And a love that goes against all the rules.
England 1803: LADY HARRIET BEAUMONT, daughter to the Earl of Whickerton, is a free spirit, always has been. She does as she pleases, determined to ignore society’s etiquette and demands, determined to remain unwed. Her heart tends to go out to those who have been mistreated, and over the course of a most eventful and somewhat scandalous life, Harriet—or “Harry”!—has nursed countless animals back to health.
A rabbit by the name of Sir Lancelot.
A talking parrot called King Arthur…or Biscuit, as he insists.
A toad dubbed Prince Charming.
Most recently, however, a rather unusual creature crossed her path. He walks on two legs and speaks in complete sentences. His name?
The Duke of Clements.
Or as Harriet renamed him, Sweet Jack.
BRADLEY JACKSON, the DUKE OF CLEMENTS, lives a life of order and predictability…at least until he stumbles across a most unusual woman out in the woods. How she comes to be there—unaccompanied, mind you!—he does not know nor care; all he knows is that he needs to rid himself of her as fast as possible. After all, with one glance, Bradley can tell that this woman spells trouble.
Unfortunately, Lady Harriet is not so easily set aside, her insistence on seeking him out more than simply puzzling to Bradley.
Instead of assisting his aunt in choosing his future duchess, Bradley suddenly finds his days occupied by a most troublesome hellion. No matter what he does, the lady simply will not stay away…and before long, Bradley is shocked to realize that he no longer wishes she would.
Could she possibly be the one? The woman meant to be his duchess? As shocking as that thought is, the more disturbing one is that Lady Harriet has sworn never to marry. What is a duke to do when he finds his heart stolen by the one woman in all of England who will not have him?
An epic love story that spans across an entire series. Ensure that you have a good cup of tea, something to nibble on and perhaps a box of tissues at hand before you dive into this slow-burn Regency romance full of enchanting moments between Sarah and Keir, the little wisp and the highlander.
Lady Harriet Beaumont, the Earl of Whickerton’s youngest daughter, wants to forge her own way. Not for her being some man’s possession, to be toted around and sent wherever her owner (that is, her husband) would send her! This young hellion, who’s full of surprises yearns for freedom. Freedom to be an independent spirit! Bradley Jackson, Duke of Clements, has discovered there’s a codicil to his mothers will. He must marry by thirty to inherit her manor house. Only a tiny portion of his properties, but for him a place of love. So what does our duke do? He enlists the help of his aunt to introduce him to suitable young women to find a match that suffices. Since childhood Bradley has pushed down the idea of love. That way madness lies. He only needs to look to his own father to understand that. Bradley will marry someone to provide him with heirs. Someone who knows what is expected in a polite marriage. Someone who won’t rock the boat. Oh but stop! Who is that free spirited, annoying red head, who keeps disturbing his peace, calling him “sweet Jack”? Jack? Not even his name! The thing is Harry is a rescuer and upon her rather abrupt and unforgettable meeting with Bradley when out riding (well galloping!) Harry intuits that Bradley needs rescuing—but then maybe Harry does too. Soul gazing indeed! Excitement, danger, and gentleness combine to make a rather haunting read, when you’re not standing alongside Harry wanting to be just as reckless, determined and feisty. The final coming together of Sweet Jack and Harry is a thing of beauty. All is needed is for love and trust to combine.
The main hero and heroine were annoying. The romance was a ridiculous, redundant refusal by the heroine to embrace love . She doddered on about marriage inequalities and freedom for women endlessly. In fact, most of the book consisted of repeated arguments on that theme. The hero, unlike in most romance novels, lacked experience with women and was frozen emotionally. It was a very boring read and a waste of time.
This was a fast paced regency romance, I enjoyed reading it. HOWEVER. My one issue that really BUGGED all book was the FMC and her opinion on marriage. This girl is basing her decision to NEVER marry off ONE PERSON. Singular. Her parents and her grandparents and ALL OF HER SIBLINGS are happily married and she’s sworn to never marry because of one aunt. The fact that she was in love and so stubborn that she could NOT move past it and just refused till 90% of the book drove me nuts. There was enough plot and drama that this was not needed. “Jack” was great. Harriet was not. This bugged me so much I took off two stars.
The story of Harriet and "Jack" is an astonishing one. An untamed lady. A proper duke. And a love that goes against all the rules.

This is the fifth book in The Whickertons in Love Series. Although it is not listed as part of the series it is an integral part of it. Bee Wolf has done it again. She writes an interesting tale of intrigue and love. Although it is a bit long I enjoyed the read. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
England 1803: Lady Harriet Beaumont youngest daughter of the Earl of Whickerton, is a free spirit & always has been, she’s determined to remain unwed. Then she encounters Bradley Jackson, The Duke Of Clements after her Grandma tells her to ride westward instead of her usual eastward route. She calls him Jack & he reluctantly calls her Harriet, so begins a friendship. The fourth Whickerton sibling to find love & what an utterly charming read it was. Harry is rebellious, certain what she doesn’t want to do until she realises what she wants to do. Jack is reclusive & determined not to fall in love, I loved the pair of them & how they both learned to compromise as their feelings grew. The road to their HEA was delightful & not without obstacles, which they had to overcome. A villain did finally get his just desserts. My favourite character of the series The dowager Countess, Edie once again plays matchmaker. An engrossing read which I loved My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Harriet is the daughter of an Earl but she doesn’t follow rules or society. She goes to the beat of her own drum. Bradley is a Duke and is always proper and goes by what it socially acceptable. They meet one day in the woods and he’s shocked that she’s alone without an escort. But son he’s intrigued by her. They become friends and when it’s time for him to find a wife that’s acceptable he decides that Harriet is what he wants as he likes the way that she is! But will society accept what he wants? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This book was a fun read. The characters were quit humorous and entertaining to read. I think the story was written differently than from the previous books from this writer. The story brought some charm and some exciting entertainment. I love the happily ever after ending. The story was easy to read and the story is a quick page turner. The realism the writer maintained during the book is what I think makes this book a fun read.
Beautifully written storyline which was difficult to put down. The characters, Harriet and Bradley, have very different outlooks on life which sometimes clash with Society’s ‘rules’. This is one book you don’t want to miss. I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Having not read the previous books in this series, I was a little apprehensive diving in. Oftentimes I can't immediately connect with characters, and I feel like I have been dropped into the middle of a drama where nothing is explained. However, Bree Wolf did an excellent job of making this book stand all on its own, even if reading the previous books is still highly recommended. I love a good opposites attract romance, and it was delivered so well with this story. There was definitely angst, and you felt that neither person had been in a relationship before, so the drama level was high quite often. I personally enjoy that in a book where the two main characters don't see eye to eye. It makes for a much more dramatic coming together moment, when they realize they are, in fact, perfect for each other.
Lady Harriet Beaumont is known for being a bit of a wild child. More comfortable out roaming the countryside, rescuing injured animals and generally flouting all social convention, she is not expected to marry. Indeed, she has declared she will never marry, for no man is worth the risk of giving up her freedom. While out riding one day, she comes across a man she has never seen before, who is both intrigued and bewildered by the casual nature of her appearance and manner. Bradley Jackson is a duke, after all, and dukes only spend time with ladies when they are chaperoned. And she most definitely was not chaperoned. However, her charming nature has captured his attention, and though he vows never to see her again, he can't help being drawn in by her smiles and the annoying yet oddly comforting nickname she gives him, sweet Jack. Bradley must marry, and he knows Harry is the least suitable woman for him. If only she wasn't also the only woman he wants.
A classic case of Grump and Sunshine, Harry and Jack were hilarious! I loved Harry's clear love of life, and she never let Jack's stoic nature get in the way of her own enthusiasm. There were times when I thought she would bowl him over with her brightness, and that would be the end of that, but as time went on, I could see him coming out of his shell. Her methods were a bit unorthodox, but eventually, she brought out a side of him he didn't know existed. As you read, you'll find out why Jack is the way he is, and it's heartbreaking. I felt for him as he struggled to be the man his father wanted versus the man his mother hoped he would become. There were definite bumps in the road, as communication was not their strong suit. They spent days apart at times, trying to stay away from each other, and then eventually they would collide again, usually because Harry couldn't stay away. Her desire to be with Jack was much stronger than her willpower to stay away, whereas Jack had years of practice maintaining distance from people. They weren't the couple you expected, but they were absolutely the couple they each needed for a happy life.
I love Bree Wolf's writing style, and I look forward to reading more by her. If she writes more relationships like this one, I will be most satisfied.
**I received a free copy via NetGalley and this is my honest review.**
I have read all of the stories in the Whickertons in Love Series by Bree Wolf and have loved every one of them. It is so enjoyable that the grandmother is the instigator in each story sending her granddaughters off to find their perfect partner.
This story is about Lady Harriet Beaumont known to her family and friends as Harry. She is quite different from most ladies in society at this time since she has no interest in marrying. She does not follow or believe in the rules of society and resents that her she'll become the property of her husband if she marries.
Her grandmother tells her to ride West instead of East one morning and she meets Bradley Jackson, the Duke of Clements. These two are as different as night and day. The Duke likes order, predictability, and a quiet life with little emotions. His father told him to never fall in love because he was never the same after his mother died. However, in order to obtain his mother’s estate her will specifies he needs to marry by 30 or forfeit the property which is quickly approaching.
When they meet in the woods during their morning rides he is shocked because she has no chaperone and is different from any lady he has ever meet before. He knows she is everything he does not want in a woman. However, he can’t seem to stay away from her especially after she names him Sweet Jack and stirs up emotions he shut off years ago.
Initially he is annoyed by her and her ways but he finds himself looking forward to seeing her and realizes she is the woman he wants as his future duchess. But, she has vowed never to marry and he has to find a way to get her to change her mind. He no longer cares about the estate he just needs to get Lady Harry to change her mind and marry him.
I absolutely loved the character of Sweet Jack and Harry and the development of their feeling for each other the way they came too understood each other was endearing. It was so nice to see them accept each other and things they never thought they wanted to find happiness with each other.
Generally, I have found that books in series can sometimes become repetitive and not as interesting as the series progresses. However, that is not the case with this book, Bree Wolf has written a truly romantic story and this is my new favorite!
I received an ARC copy of the book from Wolf publishing and highly recommend it!
This next story in the Whickertons in Love Series has their spunky grandmother at it again when she sends LADY HARRIET BEAUMONT, daughter to the Earl of Whickerton, off in a different direction for her daily ride. Harriet is the most wild of the Whickerton siblings and she had decided long ago that she would never marry. She wants nothing to do with all of the rules and regulations of society and will never put herself under a husband's control over her life. She has a most caring heart and is always finding some wounded animal to care for and bring back to health. On that fateful ride West instead of East she meets a man who she realizes needs some tender care. His introduction as the Duke of Clemants doesn't faze her as she begins to call him Sweet Jack. Something will drive her back to meet him again and again even when he demands that she leave his lands. As her feelings towards him grows will she continue to fight for her right to her freedoms and deny that he is her perfect match.
BRADLEY JACKSON, the DUKE OF CLEMENTS, lost his mother at a young age and his father was lost to him as a result of her death. He follows all of the rules and lives his life in a predictable order. When he discovers he must marry before he turns thirty to not lose his mother's property- he asks for his aunt's help. Out for one of his daily rides he meets a most unusual woman who he decides is a hellion. She has no chaperone and cannot seem to realize the danger to her reputation. She shows no respect to his title and refuses to stop calling him Sweet Jack. But as she continues to visit him every day- she begins to fill a hole that is in his life and she is determined to be his friend. When he discovers she is the only one that he wants to be his wife- he has to find a way for her to trust him enough to choose to marry.
I enjoyed this story and the wonderful relationship that grew between Harriet and Sweet Jack. The whole Whickerton family gets to take part in this story as it is entwined with the other books. There is a foreshadow of the next story near the end of this book.
I received a copy of this book from he author and this is my honest unbiased review.
TITLE: “ Life means mistakes, trial and error…[and it is] only through these mistakes that one…grows”..
SETTING: London, Spring 1803
Bradley Jackson, Duke of Clements, learns of the codicil in his mother’s will, requiring him to marry before age 30 (6 months away) or his mother’s manor and lands will be forfeit. Staid, orderly, closed off from society since his parents’ death, this news disrupts his life plans, pushes marriage to the forefront earlier than he planned. He enlists the aid of his father’s elderly sister, who is now at Clemente Parke.
Lady Harriet (“Harry”) Beaumont, youngest daughter to the Earl and Countess of Whickerton, goes to her sister’s manor for a visit to her sister and her paternal grandmother. It just so happens that Pinewood Manor adjoins Clemente Park, the Duke of Clements’ ancestral home. The stage is set for “Harry” and Bradley to meet. All it takes is a nudge from Harry’s Grandmother, a challenge, to begin the action!
CRITIQUE: A delightful book, loaded with nuggets of life-enhancing wisdom, as our Hero and heroine meet, work through various problems, and navigate the rapids that high society (the “ton”) poses in the life-stream of the young adult population. Friends (and enemies!) of Harry, pose both opportunities to aid them, and dangers FROM them, as the story moves along. As each of our couple make adjustments in their life expectation, we can appreciate the lesson that ALL of us need to be ready to change to accommodate the love of our life. Although part of a series (which I have yet to read!), I found this book stood alone quite well. As well as reading the prior books, I eagerly await the next book which promises a happy ending for other characters in our story. Clean, positive role models, with gems of wisdom which provide inspiration for young people, or anyone struggling with identity, goals and purpose in life.

Bradley Jackson, Duke of Clements meets a hellion by the name of Harriet. His life will never be the same. A very independent woman, Harriet (Harry) sees a man closed off from his feeling and the joy of life. Determined to find the man behind the mask, she pursues him by giving him affection and challenges. Calling him Jack, he is not sure what to make of her honesty. Determined to never marry, Harry continues to remind Jack not to get any ideas about anything more than friendship. He has to marry by his thirtieth birthday or lose his mother's house where he has fond memories. Not willing to give up on what he wants, Jack has to figure out how to entice Harry to accept his proposal. A very charming romance with an unconventional lady and a stodgy Duke who needs her in his life. A clean romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Once Upon a Devastatingly Sweet Kiss is the fourth book in the series by Bree Wolf, The Whickertons in Love. The series follows six siblings as they navigate the sometimes-treacherous path to love. In this story, the focus is on free spirited, Lady Harriet (or Harry as she prefers) the youngest daughter of this lively family. Harry does not follow the conventions of polite society, if she wants to ride out into the woods unaccompanied, then she will! On one of these jaunts, she encounters the charming but repressed and proper, BRADLEY JACKSON, the DUKE OF CLEMENTS. Harry is instantly drawn to the duke and to his chagrin insists on calling him Jack and comporting in the most shockingly hoydenish way. Bradley er…Jack had a dismal and unnurtured childhood. His mother died early, and his father never recovered…. instead letting the bitterness of her passing influence his treatment of his son. Now, in order to inherit the only meaningful thing his mother has left him, a small manor, Jack must marry soon. He is in the process of actively looking for a wife when he stumbles on the persistent and absolutely unsuitable Harry. Good thing Harry is resolved NEVER to marry and fall under the control and rule of a MAN. Harry all but forces her friendship on poor, sweet Jack, never meaning to be more than just his unorthodox friend. Unfortunately, Jack soon finds that this wonderful, complex young woman is just what his love starved heart needs. How can he convince this complicated and unique woman to take a chance on him? I loved this story and Jack was worth the chance!! I voluntarily read a copy of this book from Netgalley and this review is of my honest opinion.
Harriet Aka Harry is way before her times. One thing she could have done differently is understood the time she lived in! Some events paint her as endearing but she was reckless as hell! She did practice self defense but in a situation where she was over powered she is angry and vengeful! Life is not fair but there was very little about Harriet that embraces her feminine side. Yes she wore dresses but her behavior at times pursued Jackson Bradley Duke of Clements Aka Jack! She flirted with him, drew him out made laugh and live again. He was not a pet and to tell your family he was yours ummm okay?!! Now that Harry has caught this gorgeous, powerful Duke what are you going to do with him? You can’t like throw him BACK? You both are hooked! Jack didn’t know what hit him he was very inexperienced in lots of ways and wild Harry swept into his life like a hurricane. Evil tried to clip Harry wings, what she should have done was be grateful to the men who would not see her harmed! Glad Jack was there and she took her revenge but come on Harry let Jack be the man and the provider! He did love her with all her fits and starts. Harry had seen what happened when a woman’s true self is contained and smothered. But Harry don’t you know that the right man will help you soar! Jack jumped through too many hoops for me! Yes he got Harry and understood her but love should not make you a contortionist!!! You grow with the love not make demands when you are getting to know yourself? Harry needed Jack and he needed her but was it her best self??? Hmmm More interested in star crossed lovers Juliet and Troy story’s to follow! Can’t wait!!
From a young age, Lady Harriet has proclaimed to family and friends that she will never ever marry. But circumstance is not to be denied when she meets a special man who tempts her resolve and nudges at her heart.
From a young age, Lord Bradley has determined that he will never ever risk his heart. He holds his own counsel close and is the epitome of a quiet gentleman. But circumstance is not to be denied when he meets a red headed hellion who turns his life and sanity upside down and inside out.
In my humble opinion, Once Upon a Devastatingly Sweet Kiss is probably one of the best romances I have yet to read. I so enjoyed getting reacquainted with savvy Grandmother Edie, and I could not help but love both Bradley and Harriet. Their sweet, humorous and challenging uphill budding love story was not only different, but it was also entertaining. As with many interesting romances, there has to be a villain, and of course a bit of danger. The engrossing plot was tightly woven together by author Bree Wolf. The balance of thoughts, dialogue and action kept this lengthy novel moving toward a cute ending.
Content 411: As with all of the books in this series, there is only some kissing, but no swearing or sex.
Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.
I received a free copy of the clean romance Once Upon a Devastatingly Sweet Kiss: The Whickerton’s in Love book 4 by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.
One vows never to marry. The other is legally bound to marry soon or lose his childhood home.
It was a joy to watch Harry work her magic as she steamrollers over “Jack” to break through his reserve while at the same time “Jack” becomes the irresistible, quiet and supportive force that grounds Harry. I loved watching them both receive what they thought they never wanted, love with a feeling of completion in each other.
Covering a similar time frame as Once Upon an Irritatingly Magical Kiss, Grandma Edie strikes again when she dares her fun-loving, spirited, and unconventional granddaughter, Lady Harriet Beaumont to ride the opposite direction from normal which places her right in the path of the emotionally repressed, regimental, and staid Bradley “Jack” Jackson, Duke of Clements.
Glimpses are provided to pique your interest for the last two siblings’ romances but what piqued my interest most, was the anticipation of the schemes and mischief Grandma Edie would contrive with the help of her married granddaughters.
Lady Harriet Beaumont, daughter to the Earl of Whickerton, is a free spirit and with her siblings, has been dubbed one of the Wicked Whickertons. Yet when she meets the Duke of Clements, whom she names Jack, she does as she always has and tries to bring happiness to his life. Bradley Jackson, the Duke of Clements, has always lived a life of predictability until he meets Harriet. Yet despite all he does to avoid her and then dissuade her from seeking him out, he soon misses her if he doesn’t see her on a daily basis. Bradley soon realises that he doesn’t want a predictable wife but only Harriet. However, she has sworn never to marry. Jack’s sole aim is to convince Harriet that they are destined to be together, which may not be that simple. I loved the character of Harriet for her vivaciousness and her ability to bring a smile to Jack. Yet it was also lovely to see Jack warm to her, gradually through the book, until he realises that life without her is impossible. Towards the end, I could have shaken Harriet, for not seeing how wonder Jack was and how he had changed and matured, because of her. A sweet read. I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Harriet Beaumont (Harry), is a strong willed, brave girl who wants to be equal to men in everything, even dueling it seems lol. I love her spirit and determination. Harry is determined to never marry because she refuses to be the property of her husband.
Bradley Jackson, the Duke of Clements, is a lonely man. His mother died when he was very young and his father grieved so deeply, he neglected his son and Bradley grew up with little emotion. His life was orderly and he enjoyed a quiet life. He closed himself off to emotions. Then he met Harry and his world as he knew it was turned upside down.
Harry and sweet Jack, her nickname for the Duke are complete opposites but they cannot seem to stay away from each other. They discover things about themselves and each other and go on an adventure that involves kidnapping and even a duel. The attraction between Harry and sweet Jack get stronger but in the end will Harry see marriage with sweet Jack in a new light or can Bradley marry a woman who wants to be treated as his equal? I have read every book in this series and have enjoyed them all. Well written by one of my favorite authors.
Once Upon a Devastatingly Sweet Kiss by Bree Wolf (The Wickertons in Love #4) is a historical romance that uses the opposites attract trope. In this case it is wonderful done with all the fun parts between people who see things differently.
Harriet Wicherton is the youngest of the Wickerton girls. She is refreshingly candid, full of energy and determined to pave her own way through the world. She doesn’t want to be anyone’s possession and is determined to heal people. Then one day she runs into the Duke of Clements, Sweet Jack.
The Duke of Clements or Bradley Jackson is astounded, infuriated and hopelessly infatuated with Harry. She is everything he is not and full of life and laughter! She seems to have enchanted him and without any thought or effort, he wants to marry her. She doesn’t want to marry him and leaves him. Both nursing a broken heart, but Sweet Jack is not ready to give up. Harry will be his - no matter what he has to do!
I enjoyed reading this newest of the Wickertons in Love series. I have seriously enjoyed the characters and their passion for life and eventually love! Once Upon a Devastatingly Sweet Kiss by Bree Wolf is a fun read.
Grandma Edie is meddling (in a good, loving way) again. All she does is suggest the direction Harry should take on her morning ride. Lady Harriet Beaumont is spirited, carefree and a bit reckless. On this particular ride, she meets Bradley Jackson, Duke of Clements. He is staid, proper, and careful. Bradley needs to marry by his thirtieth birthday in order to inherit his mother’s estate. Harry is not the kind of woman he is looking for. He wants proper, distant, biddable. She does not fit that bill. They are exact opposites and fascinated with one another. They might become friends, but nothing more can happen. Right?
This is a sweet and entertaining story. The characters are engaging. The witty, cheeky banter between Harry and Sweet Jack was delicious. Watching them come to understand and trust each other was heartwarming. The story has an interesting plot line. Meetings in a meadow, a house party, a kidnapping and rescue, and the large loving Whickerton family contribute to a wonderfully happy ending. Another enjoyable story in the Whickertons in Love series. I recommend it.
Wonderful story! I have been remiss in not reading anything from Bree Wolf. I have several books in my TBR pile. Well, they have moved to the top! This is a series, so I will definitely backtrack, but can be read as a standalone. Duke of Clements, Bradley Jackson likes everything in his life orderly. Same routine, day in and day out, but a chance meeting with Harriet, “Harry” in the meadows near his home has turned his life upside down. Harry was never the typical proper English lady. She decided years ago she would never marry, never let others dictate what she should do. When she comes across the Duke, she sees a sadness, loneliness in him and decides to cheer him up and calls him “Jack”! The stuffy man grits his teeth and informs the redhead hellion that is not the way to address him. The characters are wonderful. There are parts you will laugh out loud, I love the love-hate start of the story. Can’t wait to read the next book. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story.
I received "Once Upon a Devastatingly Sweet Kiss" from WOLF Publishing and Bree Wolf and voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is the 4th book in the Whickertons in Love series. Bradley Jackson, Duke of Clements, must marry before his 30th birthday if he wishes to retain ownership of one of his beloved ancestral homes. Lady Harriet Beaumont, youngest daughter of the Earl of Whickerton is an independent, carefree but exuberant, caring and nurturing young lady. In this story, we see two opposites in almost every way form an attraction, where two worlds collide and make the impossible possible. We also see and feel the nuances of the importance of women's independence, as well as how one person can be our source of strength, and who means everything to us. Bree Wolf is an exceptional author. This story captivated me in its uniqueness and I am truly looking forward to reading the next Whickerton sibling's love story.
Is he Jack or is he sweet? I love psychic grandma! She is a very endearing character. Her intuitive nature grabs at me with a chuckle and a smile. She told Harriet to ride her horse west instead of east as was her usual route and so she did that fateful morning. By doing so, she met Bradley or her “Sweet Jack” as she nicknamed him. Of course to Bradley she was his little hellion. A daring twist of events bring this couple together in an unusual roundabout way. It was a joy to see how their story panned out. There is never a dull moment where Harriet is concerned and left me in complete thrall throughout the entire book. And where does that leave ‘psychic grandma’? With yet more work to do for the remainder of the unattached Whickerton clan members. I am anxiously awaiting to see what the next book has in store.
If you have read any books in this series, you will find that Harriet (Harry) was always bringing into the house wounded animals and heal them. Some staying, others turned lose. I loved watching her and she was her own person doing what she wanted to throwing rules out the window. I was glad to see her getting her own story showing what a sweet person she is. I also love her grandmother who is a matchmaker and always ended up being around when she was needed. Bradley Jackson, the Duke of Clements is the total opposite living a life following all the rules so when he comes upon Harriet in the woods alone without a chaperone he doesn’t know how to handle it. She also named all her animals so it only stands to reason that she named the duke Sweet Jack. I so enjoyed watching the inactions between these two. A great story.
This has been an absolutely wonderful series. I have loved every book as we come now to Harriet’s story, the youngest daughter of the Earl of Wickerton. She is also the wildest and most unconventional. “Harry” is a free spirit, never wishing to marry, or be tied down by society rules. She loves animals and has nursed many back to life. While out riding her horse, she meets the Duke of Clements, whom she renames “Sweet Jack”. He is her total opposite, being predictable and adhering to propriety and order. He tells her to leave his property but she just keeps coming back. Soon, he wants her to come. Their developing relationship is a joy as they learn to love and appreciate one another. Grandma Edie is a hoot and she adds so much to these stories guiding each of the granddaughters relationships . Even the pets are a fun addition to the stories. Just a delightful read!
I absolutely LOVED this book! Lady Harriet (Harry) follows Grandma Edie's suggestion to ride a different route one morning where she meets the Duke of Clements (Bradley Jackson/Jack). He's all prim and proper, and Harry is the complete opposite. What will happen when his caution and care to all things proper clashes with her spontaneous and uninhibited behavior? Lots of fun with a twist of danger! I enjoyed Harry's prodding Jack into different thought patterns, questioning his beliefs (will she go too far?); and, although Jack was tempted to turn away, he persisted in meeting, helping, and rescuing Harry. A few twists and Grandma Edie's scheming made it a fun read! I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have given my honest opinion in this review.
