Mount Blanc Rescue #2

Mountain Impact

Rate this book
She’s the one woman he hasn’t been able to forget.

This time, they’re not going to give up on each other.

Drake Jacobs, second-in-command of the Mont Blanc Search & Rescue unit, is temporarily in charge of the team. A freak accident in the mountains means he needs to be cleared by the department’s psychologist before he can get back to work―which shouldn’t be a problem, except Drake and Dr. Isolde Durant haven’t spoken more than a few words to each other since she broke his heart six years earlier.

Isolde has done her best to forget Drake but, as soon as they’re thrown together again, it becomes clear her best isn’t good enough―the attraction between them is a strong as ever, and suddenly she’s not sure she’s strong enough to fight it. But when danger follows her home, Drake is the only one she can turn to for help.

Action, adventure, romance … in the heart of the Alps.

Note to readers: this sexy, action-packed romance is Book 2 in the Mont Blanc Rescue series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Guaranteed HEA.

2.5 Estrellas!

(4.5) The premise grabbed me so I reached out to Hidden Gems for the arc. The author was kind enough to provide Book 1 in this series also. I can honestly say each book can be read as a standalone with their own HEA. I debated about classing book 1 and 2 as erotica, but settled for steamy. They are both more steamy than I care for, but I skim those and just enjoy the rest of the books as they are both powerful stories of strong men, strong women and the terrors and wonders that befall them. I love search and rescue stories, although they also scare the be gees out of me. If the author is a good they take me into this world that I will never be apart of and J.R. Pace does that. I travel this world with each couple you meet in the series. Different issues, different strengths with steamy romance and suspense. I was not thrilled when Isolde tried to explain her truth and Drake cut her off. I understood his answer to her question later in the book. Upon first meet of culprit in this book, I knew right away they would be the one to bring trouble into Isolde and Drakes world, but that did not detract from the story as I started wondering how. I will say I really struggled with what transpired, the ethical question that indeed arose to me, although I cannot say in all honesty if I too would have not failed in that department. Thank you JR Pace, than you Hidden Gems for this arc. I am thrilled to have found a new author, a new series. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I was very pleasantly surprised. Search and rescue take on a new dimension in the world of high adventure and battling the odds against Mont Blanc. A freak accident brings together estranged lovers as Drake is on hand to come to the rescue when a cable car comes crashing down the mountain. Facing Dr. Isolda Durant out in the field is bad enough, but when Drake realizes that she is every bit as affected as he is by the accident, his heart goes out to her. Although they both steel themselves against getting back together again, their hearts and libidos refuse to cooperate and they discover that, if anything, the feelings between them are stronger than ever. Faced with impossible odds over and over again forces the pair to resolve their past issues and stand together in the face of danger. Just when it would seem that all is lost, the team covers their backs, leading them to the place where they can put their hope in the future.

Forgiveness...

But does Drake need to forgive Isolde or himself?
I really like Drake, he may be serious and border on grumpy, but that is the shield he uses to keep others at a distance and continue putting one foot on front of the other and moving forward each day. The weight of the guilt he carries is slowly crushing him with every day that passes, he is a protector, with a huge heart. But that heart is a little dinted and battered and each life they lose leaves another crack, another dint. It is such a relief when he finally admits his feelings for Isolde and he stops punishing himself for what he perceives as his failures.
Both Drake and Isolde hold themselves to such high standards, far higher than they expect of anyone else or each other, seeing them together and the love that smooths their rough edges is heartwarming. You may not think they should work, but they fit, their broken pieces matching up perfectly.
I love this series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Book two in the series brings Drake and Isolde's story. It's a second chance romance filled with action, intrigue and suspense as well as the smokin romance. It's well written with descriptive scenes, moves fluidly and is a great read.

Great suspense romance. Base in France , famous Mont Blanc.
Drake and Isolde have a history together and try to forget each other but without chance of that.
When they decided to try again everything went out of the control that includes steamy, hot sex , big “kitty” and danger creeping over their heads.
The storyline was intriguing with the twist I didn’t see coming.
Enjoy reading!

Drake loved mountain biking and had a bike specially retrofitted for his massive 6'4" frame. As part of the PGHM rescue team every chance he got he let the stress go as he raced down the mountain. When he saw a silver flick through his vision he managed to stop without careening off the bike to pick up the litter and mumbled about the inconsiderate hikers who couldn't be bothered to hold onto their trash until getting off the trails.

As he is opening his backpack to dispose of the wrapper, he hears a hissing sound and looks up in horror as a cable car crashes to the ground taking out trees as it plunges down the mountain. He looks down at the piece of garbage in his hand that probably saved his life. Drakes is running as fast as he can while calling his team and giving them the coordinates to the crash site. He is just praying that the cable car stops before plunging off the side of the mountain.

Isolde is a psychologist for the Chamonix Police Department and she was called to the crash site to give support to the first responders and looked at the crumbled cable car in horror. No one could have survived that. When told that the first responder was massive with gray eyes she knew who she'd find. Drake...the man who she had had an affair with six years ago.

As she is told that the two men surprisingly survived this crash and were in transit to the hospital she remembers the crash six years ago that didn't have a happy ending. As Drake was trying to extract a young girl from the crash his leg was trapped and he was unable to lift the metal off the girl. He almost lost his leg which he would have done gladly if it would have saved her life.

Then he saw the report that almost ended his career. The report written by Isolde that advised that Drake may need more recovery time after the loss of the girl. So for six years even working in the same building they had managed to avoid each other. Until another cable car incident put them back in contact.

This romantic thriller is action-packed from cover to cover! It is very well written and the storyline will keep you hooked immediately. The characters are fully developed and very relatable. We first meet Drake and Isolde in book one and you get a feel for their sexual tension in book one, but not their history.

Isolde may be a doctor and highly respected within the police department and the small mountain town, but she has self-image issues especially when she is next to Drake who is gorgeous and hard with muscle. I love her compassion, but I'm not sure that I would have been able to do what she did. She has an amazing heart and is definitely in the right profession.

Drake is just wow! This is a man who puts his life on the line on a daily basis saving hikers from accidents and stupidity and takes it to heart if he is unable to extract them to safety and he will definitely put his life on the line to keep Isolde safe.

This book is full of intrigue and danger and the sexual chemistry between Drake and Isolde is through the roof. I highly recommend this book and series and look forward to seeing who next on the team will get a story and the struggles they will encounter to find their HEA. If you haven't read JR Pace, you definitely need to add her to your must read authors!

Second chance romances are not my thing.

This was OK. It starts off with a cable car accident. Drake saves them but we don't get to see that part. We see the start of the crash then the aftermath.

She is a psychologist and hes a mountain ranger/police man not really sure and she is sent to the scene to make sure everyone is handling it OK. She finds Drake vomiting behind a tree but he tells her he is fine. You find out this isn't the first cable car crash that they have witnessed and last time a little girl died. You also find out they used to date or hook up at least.

She is adamant nothing will ever happen between them again but her car breaks down and he gives her a lift home and she sleeps with him. She sends him a lot of mixed messages i feel. She doesn't want to be with him but cant resist him. Yawn!!

So one morning she wakes up and realises its the anniversary of the day she lost a patient to suicide who she thought was getting better. She completely blanks drake and he doesn't understand and is hurt but once she explains after its OK. So many back and fourths from her. Id have given up if i was Drake.

Anyway the wife of the patient that unalived himself calls her and said she is going to do the same. Cant live without him so Isolade goes to find her and the woman has lost her mind and goes crazy and things happen. I don't want to ruin it but Drake saves her and honestly i was a little surprised it was happening at like 60%.

The reason it happened so early. They exact same thing happens to Drake with a guy he pissed off. Like the exact same thing. Isolade tries to help him but just ends up getting caught and now Drake has to save her again. To be fair it was the best bit of the book

The team saves them and then its over.

OK so Drake was fine but Isolade annoyed me quite a bit. Also why in these books do we not get to see big events. It the first book we didn't get to see the attempted kidnapping or the guy trying to run Tess over and this we didn't see drake rescuing the men in the cable car. Seems a bit odd

Overall it was ok

As second-in-command of the Mont Blanc Search and Rescue unit, Drake Jacobs is temporarily in charge of his team. When a freak accident occurs in the mountains that he gets involved with, he must be cleared to return to work. The problem? He and Dr Isolde Durant haven't spoken since she broke his heart six years ago. Seeing her again reminds Drake that he's never gotten over her. Isolde has done her best to keep Drake in her past and forget him, but it's not working. Their attraction to each other and the chemistry they feel is as strong as ever. And when danger from Isolde's past comes into her life, she calls on a man she knows she can count on ~ Drake.

I received an ARC of this book through Booksprout from the author and this is my honest, unbiased review. I really enjoyed this book which is second in the series. I love second-chance romances and this one was fantastic. The book's well-written with wonderful characters. Full of romance, intrigue, and suspense this book drew me in from the beginning and kept hooked throughout as I read this excellent story in one sitting. I've also read the first book of the series which was fabulous and it introduces the characters so I suggest you read it beforehand. I'm looking forward to more from this series and highly recommend this book and the series.

Entertaining romance with an interesting suspense element. I enjoy the whole rescue team aspect, and the Alps setting. I enjoyed the second chance at love aspect too; Drake and Isolde were lovers in the past, but they broke up when Drake felt betrayed by Isolde. Drake is one of the rescue team people, and Isolde is the rescue team psychologist. After a recent accident, Drake and Isolde end up back in each other’s lives because he needs to be cleared by Isolde to return to duty. Also, Drake is having a rough go of things because he’s dealing with PTSD from a previous incident. The new incident has similarities to the old incident, so it’s bringing difficult things to the forefront of Drake’s mind; he tends to take the blame on to himself for things out of his control. I liked the mystery surrounding the new accident, but I would’ve liked a bit more danger from that situation. I liked the chemistry and passion between Drake and Isolde. I wasn’t a huge fan of Isolde; she seemed to cause more problems than fix any. She’s not the best psychologist; she’s too affected by things and doesn’t really think things through, and is a bit of a mess herself. Also, I wanted for there to be more discussion about the issue they had in the past; it felt glossed over. Overall, I’m really enjoying this series; it’s interesting, steamy, and fun!

Drake and the Crazy Doctor . . .

Drake Jacobs, second-in-command of the Mont Blanc Search & Rescue unit, has to be cleared by the psychologist to return to duty as he was placed temporarily in charge of the team. The problem is that the department’s psychologist is the one he was in a relationship with 6 years ago, and it ended badly. (Drake and Dr. Isolde Durant should NOT be doctor and patient now with their former relationship.)

Isolde immediately realizes their attraction is still strong. A threat from her past drives her to Drake, the only one she feels can help her. Can he protect her?

I really didn’t like Isolde. She was extremely non-professional, letting her own emotions get involved, making bad decisions, probably causing more trouble than she ever “fixes”. There is a reason personal relationships like that are not a good idea, especially in such a life-and-death environment like this. She is also very reckless. When the professionals tell her to stay in the locked car and let them handle things they are trained for, she decides to “help” (interferes) and makes their job so much more difficult when she is captured as well. As a shrink, she should know her actions told Drake loud and clear that she didn’t trust him to do his job properly and she was undermining his authority. She’s a loose cannon and annoying!!!

This author and series were introduced to me by Hidden Gems ARC program. Since I was reading the second book for review, I also read the first book through Kindle Unlimited. Although it was not necessary, I liked having a bit of background when reading the second book in the series. This book takes place in the French Alps, which was a very different location from anything I have read recently. The story focuses on Drake Jacobs, second in command of PGHM, the search and rescue team for the region of Mont Blanc.
The book starts with a bang when Drake is mountain biking and happens to be in the area of a cable car accident. Due to the incident and its similarity to his past, Drake needs to be checked out by Dr. Isolde Durant, the psychologist who works with the emergency services teams. She also has a past with Drake that did not end well and therefore their initial meetings this time are a struggle. Once they move beyond their past, they look to see if they could have a new relationship having learned from their prior mistakes. Both their personal and life are full of action and adventure as they try to negotiate their new relationship and work together.

Drake was everything you could want in a romance novel hero. I loved reading about his mountain rescue adventures. My favorite was the near miss with the helicopter crash. The author was very good at vividly describing the perils the mountain rescue team faced everyday, the body strength they need just to do their job. I love that aspect of this series, getting a glimpse into a world I could never dream to be a part of.

Drake’s love interest in this story is Isolde, the police department shrink. Isolde came across as a meddling busybody prone to making irrational decisions based on emotions. Drake had to keep rescuing her from her own dumb decisions. But, hey, the heart wants what it wants. And in Drake’s case, it wanted the crazy, irrational shrink. Fortunately, Drake was level-headed enough for both of them. Which makes me love him even more.

A second chance at romance that both main characters seem to need.
Isolde and Drake have a history that ended in betrayal and hurt.
Isolde is the psychologist who must state Drake is fit for work after an accident that triggers his past.
Isolde has always regretted the report that caused Drake so much pain and never forgot the man she longed for.
Drake can't fight the attraction they have and he is her choice when danger finds her.

An enjoyable story that sees past deeds forgiven and chemistry winning over everything else.
Completely emotional in its delivery with their trust in each other returned.
Their relationship was broken by a mistake that was never communicated but I was so relieved they could reconcile.
A book that was gripping and addictive with danger, mystery, passion and more.

Six years ago, Drake was unable to save the life of a little girl and he cannot get past the survivor's guilt that he didn't do enough. Instead of backing him to his superiors at the time, Drake feels Isolde, as the police psychologist, betrayed him in not clearing him to return to work. Their relationship did not continue, but the attraction was still there. Fast forward to this second chance romance.

This time around Drake once again has to face similar circumstances, but the rescue is successful. When Isolde appears on the scene, their romance is re-kindled and they have to face past mistakes or the past will be repeated. The book also has plenty of edge of your seat suspense as Isolde's life is in danger and Drake continues to find the strength of will to survive and save them both from threats from man and nature.

High altitude romance
The setting for this story is in the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Valley in the French Alps (sounds absolutely breathtaking from the author’s description). The story revolves around Drake and Isolde who are both involved with the French rescue team and had been romantically connected in the past. However, their romance had gone up in flames six years ago and now it appears that the embers have come to life. Their breakup had something to do with a report she had written that must have affected him in some way. There’s lots of excitement centering around rescues, and the interaction between the members of the team(s).
Definitely not your ordinary love story or adventure read, but it is a very pleasing combination of the two.

Wonderful action packed romance with intrigue, suspense and mystery. The mountains of the Alps are beautiful by treacherous and many climbers underestimate what can happen to them. The rescue teams that try to keep people safe put their own lives on the line several times every day. This is Drake and Isolde’s story. Drake is a member of the rescue team and Isolde is the psychologist that helps them after traumatic events. This story keeps the reader turning pages and the characters as well as the storyline is realistic. I received a complimentary copy of the book via Hidden Gems and chose to leave a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author.

Makes a positive impact:
This was an awesome book! It was exciting being back in the French Alps and with the mountain rescue team. There were plenty of heart stopping moments where just when you thought the danger had passed, something else happened. Overall I liked that there was a mix of action, drama, suspense and romance.
Drake and Isolde had a rocky history which made their current situation a bit tricky at first. I thought they made a lovely couple and were so deserving of love.

Drake still suffers flashbacks to a horrific crash he was involved in and when he is the sole rescuer in a similar accident it all comes crashing back. Isolde is the team psychologist and previously had a brief fling with Drake before her unfinished report was inadvertently sent recommending he was not ready to return to work after the previous accident. They have avoided each other since. When thrown together again, coupled with threats from several sides, more dramatic rescues and life threatening situations they may have to accept they belong together and grab life with both hands.

This in the second book in the Mont Blanc Rescue series. It can be read as a standalone but you will come across characters from the previous book since this series is about a team of rescuers. It's the perfect mixture of romantic suspense and steamy second chance romance. Well written with plenty of details without going overboard. Drake and Isolde both have issue with guilt from not being able to save someone. After a falling out they've managed to avoid each other but fate brings them back together. Drake is determined to win Isolde back. Will they take advantage of this second chance?

This reader wasn’t fan of rescue worker Drake Jacobs and Dr. Isolde Durant’s rekindled romance outing. To my taste, Isolde was annoying and Drake was one note as they dwelt on a past traumatic event (triggered by a current one); wishing their romance hadn’t ended and both peppered with guilt (survivor’s & listeners) inherent to their jobs for half the read. The other half mirrored Mountain Struggle’s events too closely to capture this reader’s interest.

This is the second book of the series. The first was excellent and so was this one. This book featured Drake and Isolde. Drake had been involved in a rescue several years ago that ended in tragedy. When he sees the same thing happening again, he works hard to not have it happen again. He saves the two men and then a strange twist happens. During the story, you learn that Isolde and Drake had been involved before but they were growing closer again. The story had lots of drama, some hot romance and an HEA. Loved it.

Another great book in the series! How this rescue team survives everything they do is inconceivable but entertaining. I was so excited for Drake’s story because he played a fairly pivotal role in the first book and I’m happy with how it worked out. There is so much drama and thrills that by the time I got to the finale of the book, I had completely forgotten about the original plot point. I’m not sure if that is good or bad. A very hot and thrilling series! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

This book does a wonderful job of reminding us that while the mountains ⛰may be beautiful and majestic they can be quite dangerous and treacherous causing many people to lose their lives unfortunately. Drake is a member of the Rescue Team Isolde is the psychologist that helps the team process traumatic events. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this book to see what happens.

Drake wants to get back to work with the search and rescue group. Drake and Isolde have a history from 6 years before. Now Drake has to see her again to get cleared to return to work. Isolde is trying to stay focused and not fall for Drake again. Once they get together the still have a strong attraction to each other but they have trust issues they have to deal with. Will they be able to get over their problems and find a way to their HEA? This is the first book I've read by this author. Very enjoyable story. Drake and Isolde have a second chance at their relationship, will they muck it up again? Drake has a dangerous job, rescuing people off the mountain, and Isolde is the psychologist that can be enlisted to help the rescuers with the issues that can arise from their dangerous job. I enjoyed this suspenseful story, that has danger, drama and enough twists to entertain and keep you reading. Both Drake and Isolde were easy to like characters (although Drake was probably my favourite).
