Reckless is a fake-marriage, brother’s best friend romance with all the feels. Alexander Prescott, Izzy’s older and famous author brother, has been friends with Jude Malone since high school, and she has loved him from afar ever since. I have read the first two books in this series, and you can easily read Reckless as a stand-alone as the author effortlessly introduces characters and their tie-in to our hero and heroine.
In book one of the Wildrose Landing series, Fearless, Alex meets girl next door, Evie, and their wedding takes place at that beginning of book three. The second book, Shameless, features widower and single-dad, Jack Cooper, finding love again with the eccentric Amelia.
Alex, Jack, Jude and their still single friend, Austin, are a tight knit group and I love all of their energy, support, witty banter, and interactions. In Reckless, it’s Jude’s turn as he tries to make sense of his feelings for the now very grown-up and off-limits, Izzy.
I liked Izzy from the very beginning as she owns a candy story in Wildrose Landing and is just so fun, kind, and caring. An easy spirit and a joy to be around, she seems to have it all except the man who has claimed her heart and doesn’t even know it. I felt all of Izzy’s longing and when she and Jude are seated next to each other at her brother’s wedding, she decides to throw caution to the wind and lets her guard down for one night of smoking hot passion.
Jude is so charismatic, and makes her an offer that simultaneously intrigues and angers her. I don’t blame the girl one bit, but it’s when you learn Jude’s backstory and the selfless reasons why he needs a wife, you will love him even more. They each have reasons for saying I do, and for the first time in over a decade, these two spend some quality time together and get to know each.
I loved their journey and how they both fought hard for their happily ever after. Love Alex as the protective older brother, and how her friends rallied around her for support and encouragement. Love his group of friends, and how they had to give Jude a talking to via a “Meeting of the Brotherhood.” There were many surprises as their story unfolded, and Jude’s grand gesture which was so intimate and personal just made me smile ear to ear and swoon.
Abby’s characters are so well written and relatable, they draw me in and don’t let go until long after the book is finished. Austin’s book will be the final book of this series, and I am so looking forward to reading his story as well as getting caught up with these other wonderful couples.
