A decade ago, Hildy Harding, the 10-year-old daughter of a millionaire businessman, was mysteriously kidnapped by an evil man. Despite a note that seemed to express regret and directions regarding where she could be located, the child was never found. The Pinkerton Agency will try to solve the case once more ten years later, but no one is holding out much hope...
Will the agent assigned to the case have what it takes to uncover the true cause behind Hildy's enigmatic disappearance?
While nearly everyone has abandoned hope, the lionhearted agent Wade Hampton reaches a different, yet tentative, conclusion. To everyone's shock, Hampton discovers that Hildy was kidnapped by a ruthless rival businessman who hated her father. No one ever truly expected that she was still alive, let alone that she was among the Pawnee tribe.
If Hampton only knew that this was just the beginning of a deadly quest...
After meeting for the first time, Hildy and Hampton choose to band together and seek revenge against the merciless kidnapper who robbed her of her childhood. However, their growing feelings for each other, as well as shocking revelations about the case, pose a challenge to the endless search. Even though it seems as though their fate will have them die young, will their skills help them survive this spiral of violence and vengeance?
An action-packed story, featuring complex and fascinating characters, and twists and turns that will take your breath away. A must-read for fans of Western action and romance.
"Never Too Late for Payback" is a historical adventure novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cliffhangers, only pure unadulterated action.
This has to be one of the worst books of this genre I have read. The disaster starts with the editing; spelling errors, changes of font and font sizes, words joined together and grammar problems. It is as though the writers were writing English as a second language. Basically the plot is reasonably sound but stops at where the two characters who are presented as the kidnapped grownup daughter of a millionaire are found. One has blue eyes and one brown, no-one appears to have noticed the eye-colour of the fraud being different from the daughter who was kidnapped.
Enough said, who paid the reviewers who gave a five rating?
The story line was good. The editing was atrocious. No proofreading, no spell check or sentence structure review. Three names were used for one character. I spent too much of my time trying to find another incomplete sentence, misspelling, etc.
The ending was quick and abrupt, in my humble opinion, because the author was wanting to finish it.
I have read other westerns by Mr. Westfield, and they were all good. This one was not up to his standard or his publisher.
If you are going to write more books I suggest you hire a good proof reader this book has so many mistakes I have up on it after a few chapters. Too bad because the story is pretty good.
Trying to read this book with all the grammatical mistakes, unnecessary preface words, was a trial. Don’t these authors have someone proof read their manuscripts prior to publishing? So sad! Very disconcerting to read. JD
Wade, a Pinkerton is assigned a ten year old case and is charged with solving a kidnapping!

This is a very good story and it is about the search for the truth A young woman has lived with the pawnee since the age of ten She is white but the case is given to the Pinkerton Wade Hampton and when he sees prairie flower he and she are attracted to each other There are twists and turns but the guilty are apprehended The characters are strong and brave and intelligent The extended epilogue completes the story with happiness and family togetherness A good read
Prairie Flower loves her life with the Pawnee Indians who found her lost and crying after being abducted and left in the dark woods. This story leads one through more than ten years of her life to try to determine what occurred to put her in such a position. Pinkerton detective Hampton becomes very involved with case and also very much in love with Prairie Flower. You will enjoy this journey and where it leads. A must read.
This is a well written book that has two mysteries in it. The first is the plot and the characters and the second is to figure out what the author was really writing. There was a typo every other page the main family went from Harding to Hardding. The main protagonist at the end also had a name change. Missing "the" or "a". It would seem that the auto-correct seemed t have a mind of its own. I will try another of his books but if it continues there are plenty of other authors.
Kidnapping, especially children, is always an emotional thing. What hit me the most was having to also view the story from the point of view of the person kidnapped. The story was years in the making and I think it was perfect to lay out all the hidden cards of all the characters involved. The title is a perfect summary of it all, in my humble opinion.
This story was great, but left you hanging by just ending.
The editor did a terrible job with the grammar and misused words like he and she, they and them, so many. I think this book should be reprinted. I had to keep highlighting the errors to read the sentence correctly.
You have to constantly try and insert words into sentences because they are missing or the ones there are the wrong words. This distracts from the reading of the story. The story itself is okay
The mistakes in grammar and spelling, the story was very entertaining. Having been an auditor in my work life my eyes seek out errors automatically. I helped audit the two books my daughter wrote and it is a tedious process. She had others reviewing them also.
Loved the story itself. A real page turner. My one and only problem with the book was the numerous proof reading errors. Luckily the correct word or phrase was easily determined. Other than that, the book was well written. Love your style, Mr. Westfield.
I can’t believe the author passed grade school and the publishers ever proofread the submission of this book. It is really confusing when a character’s name is constantly changed.
This is a very thoughtful and well written Western. It contains Romance and portrays the relationship between the Indians and the White population in a very positive way. This is highly unusual in a Western. I highly recommend this book.
The plot was good; only reason I gave it a rating of two. The illiterate spelling and wording is sad. It would appear to me this was most likely self published. No reputable establishment would let this go to print without extensive proofreading.
Very interesting story with a modern take on Indians. Unfortunately it suffers from major synonym problems and editing failures - the murderer change names between Chapter 48 and 51.
This was a good story, but had major errors in sentence structure, spelling, and present and future tense. Sometimes words didn't even make sense, the word system was in a sentence instead of sister. This book needs editing!
I have to agree with the other folks that have given this book a 1 or 2 star. This is one of the worst books for grammatical errors that I have ever read. I can only assume the Author has never read it. It appears no one had proof read it before printing. A shame on the Author as the plot was very good but I will be avoiding this Author and future books.
I really enjoyed this book well written and interesting without sex or religion just a good old fashioned Western novel I look forward to reading more from Ethan Westfield hats off to him.
I enjoyed the story though it took me much longer to read due to the lack of proofreading and correct writing! Was someone actually paid to do that job?? I may start really reading the reviews more thoroughly!
