My passion for reading began with a Christmas gift from my dad in 1979 - two Nancy Drew Mysteries. I still have them perched on my shelf today, a reminder of what started my love for books! Now (a few) years later, you'll find me enjoying faith-based fiction and nonfiction. That is, in between writing articles, texting my young adult kids, or looking for a new way to cook brocolli! I'm the author of Christian nonfiction books for women, which you can find out more about in the community at my online space.
What a beautiful intertwining of Rahab’s story with a real life cancer fight and the battle to trust God. Kristine Brown has done a wonderful job of cording three stories together: Rahab’s, her own, and our story about trusting God with those hard places. I highly recommend this book for any Christian facing tough times but also those who simply want to dive deeper in their faith by learning about Rahab and trusting God in life‘s hard spots. It’d be great encouragement for those battling cancer, too. Most chapters contain prayers, truths, and action steps, So it’s practical, too. Definitely recommended.
There are times I’m so stirred up that I can’t settle down. Sound familiar? Kristine Brown takes the beautiful story out of the Bible about Rahab and weaves her story into this story to show us how to “cinch” ourselves to the faithful promises of God - and even gives us a list of many of them!
I find myself cinched to God’s unwavering faithfulness as I see how Brown shared her story. That gives me HOPE. For today and tomorrow too.
If your life feels like an episode of "worse case scenario," this book will help you stop the cycle of crazy thoughts running through your head. I am so glad I bought it!
I have no idea what's coming next in my life, and everything seems to be falling apart. This little book sat on my nightstand and kept me company on several nights when I could not sleep. I've been struggling with "what's next" for quite a while, and the short chapters in this book gave me practical nuggets of truth that helped me find hope again.
I love how the author weaves her personal -- very relatable -- story in with the truth found in God's Word. Each chapter gave me a simple step I could take to "untie" old mental habits that are keeping me stuck in a cycle of doubt and defeat. Her words had a soothing effect on my soul -- because I know she has walked through hard times and survived. She is like a good friend who's "been there" and lets me know I can make it too with God's help.
I was especially encouraged by the chapter titled "When Your World is Crumbling Around You." I feel better equipped to keep walking forward even when I can't see what comes next. I know that God will help me keep standing.
Inspiring Biblical Truths That Give Hope Cinched: Living with Unwavering Trust in an Unfailing God, by Kristine Brown is inspirational and filled with biblical truths that give hope. The book was written for “every woman who has ever struggled to trust God,” but that message speaks to both genders. The author shares not only God's heart but her heart as well as she tells Rahab’s story and intermingles her testimony of living with cancer.
Kristine Brown is at her best when she is open and vulnerable. She has an amazing way of drawing you in and leading you to go deep without even realizing it. The transparency she shows is amazing. As you read, you feel like you're talking with a real person. The writing is extremely well-executed. You can tell the book was written with love. The content is easy to read and understand.
Every single chapter contains nuggets that speak to the soul. I am still finding myself thinking about Kristine’s attitudes toward shopping trips to Walmart. The author does an excellent job of showing that our struggles, like Rahab’s, could be part of a bigger plan. Yes, it’s true – Rahab was a prostitute – until the day God redeemed her. But gratefully, once we have been redeemed, God doesn’t see any of us through the lens of our sin; rather, He sees us through the lens of His Son.
Overall, Cinched: Living with Unwavering Trust in an Unfailing God, is spiritually enriching. You will appreciate the conversational writing style, eye-opening perspective, and emotional depth. Give this book a read. You will be glad you did.
This is the best book I have ever read about trusting God. Kristine Brown uses the story of Rahab, her own story, and the stories of others to paint a picture of how to start trusting God, using an almost step-by-step process. She asks some hard, hard questions, but nothing she hasn't asked herself. She lists verses, at the very end of the book, that state God's promises to us. A very encouraging book for anyone who is having doubts about the goodness of God, as they go through their faith journey. #GoodreadsGiveaway
This book came at a perfect time for me. I am the queen of “what ifs” and my mind runs into crazy cycles of what catastrophic things could befall me or my loved ones. Ms. Brown story humbled me and made me ashamed of my emotional “drama” I have been spinning over my minor health issues compared to her breast cancer diagnosis. With many Bible stories we become familiar with them through a lifetime of hearing and reading. It becomes easy to miss the fact that these were real people who lived in that moment and the lessons God wants us to learn. So it was with me and Rahab’s story. The author not only brought her to life for me but awakened me to all her possible emotions, doubts and fears she experienced. Not at all different from my own. This in turn led me to take a deeper look into my life when the future is unknown and frightening. What stood out most is that I had not considered before was Rahab’s great faith and trust in God. She staked her life and that of her family on a handful of men who promised to keep them safe when the city was invaded. Yes she believed they would be true to their word, but foremost her trust was in God. Did she worry; wonder if she made the right choice, struggle at following their commands? I would say she did, just as I do when the future is filled with unknowns. At the end of each chapter are 2 sections: “Untying Old Habits” and “Living it Out”. The first is a prayer and focuses realizing the destructive patterns we fall into when confronted with problems. The proverbial “old shoes” we slip into. By identifying these we can begin to make God’s truths a part of our hearts and minds. The second poses questions or suggestion on how we might personally apply the concepts we have learned. I found this book very inspirational. I feel it has helped me to not only recognize where I fall short in trusting God but also in changing my way of thinking and emotional choices. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated are my own.
When a crisis comes, do you find yourself getting all wound up in how things may or may not turn out? Kristine gives us an easy to follow path through the Bible story of the incredible faith that Rahab had in God. She encourages us to turn our out-of-control thoughts into trusting Him like we mean it. I highly recommend this for your fall or new year Bible/book study so that you are prepared to “cinch your trust to God’s guarantee” no matter what the future may bring.
Some of my favorite quotes are:
“Free yourself from the tangle of all the possible outcomes. Cinch your trust as tight as you can to God’s guarantee.”
"God cares about everything from our biggest problem to the smallest details of our day. He doesn’t expect us to go it alone. He is calling us to trust. He brought us this far, and He is still making the way perfectly possible."
“God uses imperfect people to complete His perfect will.”
“By daily releasing control to God, we trust His peace to calm the decision-making chaos.” “Rahab’s action came as she trusted the Holy Spirit to guide her.” “God uses what we have to bring about big miracles.”
As a long-time reader of Kristine Brown's books and writing, Cinched does not disappoint. Kristine is a skilled Bible teacher and she weaves the story of Rahab together with her own battle with cancer, to help us face our fear and the unknown by clinging to God. I loved studying more about Rahab and what she was facing as the Israelites were set to attack Jericho. I especially appreciated the chapter on "what-ifs" and learning how to reframe them based on God's promised faithfulness. Kristine's writing style is easy to read and scripture-saturated, and each chapter concludes with an "Untying Old Habits" prayer and practical ways to Live It Out. If you or someone you know is going through a fear-filled or difficult circumstance, Cinched will help you identify and tie down the places where your trust in God may waver. Highly recommended!
Are you a Christian woman who needs to trust God more? All God’s girls just said, “Amen.” Kristine will equip you to walk by faith as you journey with her on her battle with cancer, along with Rahab and a few surprise guests. Her final chapter will empower you to keep moving in faith instead of falling back into the same old rut. There’s a bonus too: a glossary of promises from the Bible. Draw closer to God as you take this fabulous faith filled journey.
Wherever you are in your spiritual walk, you'll find encouragement to trust God completely as author Kristine Brown shares truths and principles from Rahab's story as well as vulnerable sharing from her own life. The part I liked the best were the prayers at the end of each chapter. A great way for application to each reader's life.
Superb book about keeping your faith in God's promises. Written by cancer survivor who struggled with fears, and disappointments. Yet, still kept seeking God and crying out to Him. Teaching on counting on God's faithfulness. Highly recommend this book. I won the ebook from Goodreads and the author, Kristine Brown. Thank you!
This was a true story about a woman with cancer and all about keeping your faith in God. Very uplifting and helped me with my own issues. I love reading scriptures and she had a lot of them in this book
Reading this book was like sitting down at the kitchen table with supportive friends, sharing fears, tears and joys. The list of Bible verses at the end was particularly helpful. This ebook was recerived from Goodreads.
Kristine Brown is a superb writer. Walking along with Rahab, through Kristine's words, made me appreciate this Old Testament woman more than I ever have before.
Firstly, thank you to the author, Kristine Brown, the publisher, Aberdeen Books, and Goodreads for the opportunity to read this book due to winning it in a giveaway. I won a signed physical copy. The cover shows a crumbling wall with a pull tassel, and the font is easy to read and clear. I like the metaphor used, as it matches the tone of the book overall and the messages within. Inside, Brown uses her own anecdotes and advice from her own path of learning, as well as Biblical stories and inspirational passages.
Through her own health struggles, Brown learned to trust God by asking certain questions of herself and her faith, and shares them in order to help others become more solid. This book has a Christian focus, which is not normally up my alley. However, I thought the messages within were strong and could be asked by anyone looking to become more confident in themselves and their life choices. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian memoirs, daily studies in religion, anyone who is questioning their faith or entering Christianity for the first time, or anyone who may need some self-examination.
Excellent book, very well written. Love the structure of the book and each chapter! Kristine uses the story of Rahab to help us build unwavering faith in God. Very well done, and a pleasure to read!
