She’s returning to her life. He’s running from his.

As Moonstone, she was held captive on a tropical island and forced to submit to the twisted and abhorrent desires of rich men. Now Katelyn Brooks is starting fresh and is determined to reclaim her life. With the help of the Wolfe family, she’s working toward healing…which doesn’t necessarily include falling for a gorgeous waiter.

Luke Johnson is a recovering alcoholic who just wants to fly under the radar. He’s not looking for love, but when Katelyn walks through the doors of the restaurant where he works, he’s struck by her beauty and her meekness. Circumstances throw them together, and neither is able to resist the attraction that sparks between them.

But Luke has a secret—a big one—that could spell danger for both of them.

Moonstone is the first installment of the amazing author Helen hardt new series.
This series is a continuation of sorts from her mind blowing Wolfes of Manhattan series.
Katelyn Brooks, AKA Moonstone is a survivor, she is fierce ready to forge her way back into society after being held captive. Traumatized and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. She has suffered heinous acts and is striving to overcome her past. With the help of the Wolfe family she is starting to overcome her trama and taking back control of her life. Starting with finding a job.

Luke Johnson a handsome charming Man who has his own struggles and past to overcome. he's worked hard to stay on the right track. running from who he was in the past and trying to stay on a straight and narrow path he so desperately needs. They end up having a chance meeting at the restaurant where he works. He is mesmerised by the beauty of Katelyn. Sparks just fly between them. He jumps into action when Zee wolf goes into labor and getting her the help she needs. Which means helping Katelyn when the situation proves stressful for her as well.

Katelyn and Luke continue their interactions. Forming a friendship. However when the chemistry can't be denied anymore the two start a courtship that is sweet and emotionally moving.
One night Katelyn comes face-to-face with the horror of her past Luke knows and senses that something isn't right something is off she is Shell Shocked and in disbelief terrified that her world is going to come Crashing Down that the past is going to repeat itself with Luke's help she is able to get away from the situation their chemistry ignites there's things and secrets however that neither one of them are ready to come completely clean about no matter the amount of passion and chemistry. Luke realizes it's time to Face his past before it's too late and she gets caught in the middle and causes her even more trauma and pain.

As always, if I've said it once I've said it a million times. Helen is brilliant, she is the queen of Cliffhangers but it makes you look forward the next book even more. Helen leaves us wondering what will happen to Luke and Katelyn. Will they be able to overcome their past, face it head-on and move on with the enjoyable loving future that they Envision for themselves?

I give moonstone 5 glimmering shiny stars it's a wonderful beginning to what I foresee is going to be a fantastic and thrilling new series from the brilliant mind of Helen hardt!

Moonstone: Gems of Wolfe Island, is a run off of another series that Ms Hardt has written, Wolfes of Manhattan..

First let me say, Helen has SO outdone herself with this book. It is so well written, and easy to read and follow.

Katelyn, one of the first captured women that Derek Wolfe and Father Jim kidnapped. The woman that begged Zee to kill her, when Zee was unable to help her, as she was running for her life, to escape captivity herself.
Now, years later, glad that she is alive, even if she did endure 10 years of being hunted, raped and humiliated, she's now free . Free to be whomever she wants to be...start over, be anyone...but she wants to be herself

Luke, running from his past. Luke has many demons he carries on his shoulders. Literally, in the form of a tattoo. Working under the radar at a restaurant in Manhattan, he encounters Katelyn, and cannot get past the beauty or pain he sees in her.

They both have pasts they need to work through, then, will there be a Katelyn and Luke? You'll have to read on to the next book, Raven: Gems of Wolfe Island 2 to get the rest of the story.

There is absolutely NO way I can give this book anything less than 5 stars.

Bravo Helen Hardt, Bravo!!!

This is book one in a new series by Helen Hardt. I read this in one day as I was sucked in from the beginning.
I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. When I thought I knew what was going to happen Helen took it a whole different direction

Katelyn is a strong willed and determined as she tries to reclaim her life. But my past doesn’t escape her that easy.

Luke is a man of mystery and he is trying to run away from his former life. He trying to make up for all of his wrong doings
When these two come together sparks fly but their pasts don’t stay in the past for very long and will they be able to overcome everything that gets in their way.

This is a highly addictive book of good vs evil and past verses present.

Wow! Luke & Katelyn’s Romantic Suspense Will Have You On The Edge Of Your Seat. Both Are Concealing A Dark Past, But The Possibility Of Present Danger Is Real. Luke Is Hiding From His Old Life & Katelyn Leaves A Life Of Captivity Behind.

Trigger Warning: sensitive readers should take note. Includes captivity, violence, and non-consent.

ABOUT THE GEMS OF WOLFE ISLAND SERIES:

This is book one of the Gems of Wolfe Island series. It is the first of two books telling Luke and Katelyn’s story.

This series is a spinoff of the Wolfes of Manhattan series – the story of the Wolfe children and the downfall of patriarch Derek Wolfe. Rock, Roy, Reid, and Riley find love as they uncover unthinkable family secrets. In this spinoff, the children attempt to help the victims of their father’s evil activity while transforming his horrid legacy into something positive. Under their direction, Treasure Island is being converted into a center for rehabilitating and counseling victims, an art colony, and a resort destination.

IN THIS BOOK:

Katelyn Brooks, twenty-nine, was one of the first to leave the retreat center on Treasure Island. Six months of therapy and she was more than ready to leave the South Pacific island on which she had been held in captivity for a decade. She was one of the lucky ones – she was only hunted about half the time. But what she hated most of all was the humiliation.

She had been on her way to starting at Columbia when she was taken – just eighteen – and now she is essentially beginning her adult life with no education beyond high school and no experience to her name. But she is lucky to have the Wolfe family’s support and her good friend Zee Wolfe’s support in particular. Zee had been a victim at one point as well, and their shared past bonded them.

Though she is from L.A., Katelyn felt no compulsion to return to her parents. She was an only child, and she was more comfortable accepting the Wolfe’s invitation to live in their Manhattan safehouse than returning home. She thus has her own apartment in a secure building, as well as counseling services, to help her adjust to life in the real world.

She found an inner strength during her years of captivity and is determined not to be a victim. Though not required, Katelyn is adamant about finding a job and taking back her life. The journey to recovery will be ongoing. Dating, notably, isn’t recommended so soon, but when Katelyn feels sparks for the first time in over a decade, she decides to choose happiness over caution.

Luke Johnson, thirty-three, likes to believe that he is much like any other man. He has an MBA in finance, but he won’t be using it because he needs to keep a low profile. His life in L.A. is in the past and for good reason. Several months out of rehab, he is working as a waiter at a swanky Manhattan restaurant, The Glass House. He works not because he needs to but because he wants to. He wants to keep busy, and he happens to be great at his job.

Luke isn’t the same man he once was, but he likes to think he is a better man. He was raised in privilege and corrupted by power. An addiction to alcohol and women led him down an ugly path, but he takes responsibility for his mistakes. He is responsible for making the wrong choices and hurting others in the process. He wasn’t a good man and he is luckier than most, but he hopes to prove himself a changed man with this second chance. He promised himself he wouldn’t drink again.

Luke shouldn’t be considering a relationship so soon into his recovery, but when a very pregnant Mrs. Wolfe and her beautiful friend are seated at one of his tables, he feels an instant connection to the quiet blonde. He knows he is not yet ready to have a woman in his life, but he quickly finds himself obsessing over Katelyn. He senses her troubled past and it should be a red flag for him, but everything about Katelyn is different. He doesn’t trust himself, so he has to proceed slowly, but he soon discovers she has a troubled past too.

The Wolfes had tried to protect Katelyn and the other victims by keeping them out of the news, and Katelyn worries that sharing her history with Luke will make him look at her differently. Similarly, Luke has secrets that he must keep close to the vest, and if Katelyn knew the person he was, she would never want anything to do with him.

The more Luke and Katelyn get to know one another, the more difficult it is for them to move slowly. Katelyn struggles with whether she should follow a timeline or follow her heart, while Luke struggles to assure himself that he isn’t falling back into bad habits. They have both been through therapy, and both are essentially starting over. As they grow closer and discover new truths, their fledgling relationship is tested. This book ends in a cliffhanger. Raven, book two, is the conclusion of their story.

Wow! There is danger and suspense as Luke and Katelyn’s story unfolds. Both are concealing a dark past, but the possibility of present danger is real. Reading the Wolfes of Manhattan series is not necessary to enjoy this book. Katelyn’s story is told in pieces via flashbacks, explaining everything necessary to follow along. Luke’s story is likewise told in pieces, though he is more of a mystery. The couple’s love story is sweet which stands in stark contrast to their past lives. There is an innocence as a result of their fresh starts, but there is so much more. There is passion, alpha protectiveness, and danger. They are both determined to make a success of their new lives, but what that looks like could become an issue.

Luke and Katelyn’s romantic suspense will have you on the edge of your seat trying to unwrap the mystery of Luke’s past. Whether or not it intersects with Katelyn’s past is not exactly clear, but they both have reason to hide. The story is very well-written. The plot is complex and layered. The characters are carefully crafted and well-developed. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Luke and Katelyn. I rate this book five full stars.

The couple: Luke and Katelyn

Romance trope: Secret identity; recovery from trauma
Series: Gems of Wolfe Island
Length: 279 pages

Plot: Katelyn is starting to integrate back into regular life after being rescued from a horrible sex-trafficking operation where she lived for a decade. It's not easy, but with the help of a friend, she's working on it. Then she meets Luke one day. Luke is a waiter with secrets of his own. Once he finds out exactly who Katelyn is, he knows that he needs to stay away from her, for her own good.

Commentary: I haven't read anything from this author's previous series The Wolfes of Manhattan, and I think that left me a little confused at first. I was able to catch up once I started reading, but for a little while, I was not really sure who all the players were. I really liked Katelyn's character - she was a survivor in the truest sense of the word, not willing to stop living even with the fear and anxiety she must have been feeling all of the time. I got a little irritated with Luke's internal dialogue because he just dropped hints for so long and I had no idea what was going on with him and his past. I *think* that he was a poor little rich boy sort and then got in with a bad - very bad - crowd. He's had to completely change his identity and leave everything he knew in order to get out of that life. He's definitely exactly the person that Katelyn shouldn't be around, except that love wants what it wants. This does end in a cliffhanger and we find out towards the end that Luke might know more about Katelyn's world than she realizes.

Next book in the series: Raven

Moonstone

Freeeaaaaak!! Well I’ve learned to expect nothing less than exceptional and exciting storylines from this author, but when she began the Wolfe’s of Manhattan storyline I had no idea where she was going to take us. The first five books were about the siblings and uncovering their father’s murderer. Now, with Moonstone, Helen has taken into the journey of some of the surviving victims from Wolfe Island. And let me just say that you have to have a pretty strong constitution to read through some of the things these ladies were put through on the island. It’s like reading an episode of Law and Order:SVU!! This book is about Luke and Katelyn, aka Moonstone. And her story is harrowing!! Once again, Helen delivers masterful storytelling that leaves you on the edge of you seat with you heart in your throat!! I loved every single second of it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Helen Hardt starts her book with a warning,

"The Gems of Wolf Island series contains adult language and scenes, including flashbacks of physical and sexual abuse. Please take note."

This book has a lot of great reviews. I love the overall storyline; immediately drawn in, wanting to know the fate of these women. Told from a two-person point of view, you slowly get to know Katelyn and Luke. They both struggle with a dark past and find comfort in each other. You will have to continue reading the series if you want to find out how the story ends for these two.

Now for what I didn't like about the book. It felt like Luke was too repetitive. I understand that Luke has internal struggles within himself to do what he thinks is best. Still, this repetitiveness bothered me. I also understand that everyone heals from abuse in their own way, in their own time. Still, the sex scenes felt off. I can't pinpoint it, but this book was missing something. I didn't love this one like all the other reviewers. For me, it was just a good read. Maybe, I will try to reread it later and see if my feelings change. So, don't let my review dissuade you, you might agree with the others and love it.

I love Helen’s book. Quick fast read. I didn’t know the I should have read the Wolfes of Manhattan first ( just ordered them from my local library). The chemistry between Luke and Katelyn was fun to read. Anxious to start book 2 to see what happens to Luke. How long will it take for Luke to open up and be honest with Katelyn? Know Helen a few books. Can’t wait to read them all

Luke and Katelyn both have deep dark pasts.

Luke works as a waiter, trying to be a normal man. He is hiding what he once was. Katelyn was rescued from Wolfe Island and the horrible things that were done to women there. Derek Wolfe was the head of that horrid operation. His sons rescued the women that were involved. Katelyn is trying to get back to living a normal life. They meet when she is at dinner with one of Wolfe wives, Zee, who knows her from her past. Zee goes into labor and Luke makes sure she gets home. The attraction between them goes beyond anything either has felt before. Either of them doesn’t want to go too fast. Luke makes a decision to come out of hiding to try to fix his demons and hopefully return to Katelyn. This is only the ground work for this book. Well, we have a cliffhanger waiting for the next book. And oh, how I can’t wait to find out what happens.

If we wait until we're ready, we'll be waiting for the rest of our lives...

Luke and Katelyn each have tragic pasts. They have that in common. But where they differ is they are each in dissimilar places emotionally. Luke has changed from his past, but he feels he does not deserve Katelyn. Luke has stayed hidden with his secrets, whereas Katelyn wants to bloom and put herself out there in the world. She has missed too many years being concealed and out of sight. Katelyn has finally begun to feel normal after meeting Luke.

They are drawn to each other immediately in ways they both cannot explain. Unfortunately, Luke's past is quickly catching up with him and what they feel for each other will be tested to the limit. I found myself caught up in all the intrigue of not knowing what will happen next.

Holy freaking cow...... that was intense!!

The first part of Luke & Katelyn's story is full on romance, love & unmistakable hell.

She's trying to make a better life for herself after she finds out that her 2nd cousin has made a deal with a dirty priest & mates of his who have had an island & used it like pure hell.

Helen, I'm dying inside for the next book in this series. These books of yours are so intoxicating!!! I couldn't put it down & now I'm going to read the next one. Thankyou so very much!!

Not her best

As much as I LOVE Helen hardy books. It’s getting expensive to keep up. I enjoy a series but this story spans maybe a week. Took me a little while to get into it and it’s over now have to wait 3-4 months and another $8. Unlike the other books this one does stretch the fiction part. Obviously Luke’s a “made man” but really falling in love in a week??? Really?? And of course Katelyn so badly abused trusts and falls in love. Big stretch!

Amazing!

Helen Hardt has a keen sense of how to write a love story between two damaged people! Her lovemaking scenes are believable and not a little tantalizing.
I would recommend this story to anyone not afraid to read a book with some graphic, hurtful images of things done to captive women, but then, some lovely sex scenes too.
I am very eager for the next installment of the series, and I am going right on to reading it now!

the pasts return

I absolutely love this book and immediately fell in love with the main characters. Two tortured individuals with fractured pasts come together and don’t believe they deserve each other. When the book ends, there is a separation and I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
