Halloween is the perfect time of year for tricks, treats, and murder. Ask me how I know. I thought this year was going to be different. Until it wasn't.
Halloween is upon the small town of Sandy Harbor, and when Allie is talked into throwing a masquerade ball in her new home to benefit a local charity, she's surprised to find out the wealthiest woman in town has been murdered. Who will help her fund the masquerade ball now?
Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins will be trick or treating on Halloween, but Allie is tied up solving a murder. Cozy up with the latest installment of A Freshly Baked Mystery and find out what Allie and the gang are up to now.
The last book by Kathleen Suzette that I read was one that I didn't really enjoy, but I knew that had to be a fluke, so I quickly picked up this book (which is from a series that, of course, I know that I enjoy).
I devoured this book, as I do most of hers, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I expected that, of course, but I needed the reminder that I love her books and the one that I read and didn't enjoy was a one-off.
I still highly recommend this series (as well as the Pumpkin Hollow series).
This is the 15th book in my favourite A Freshly Baked Cozy Mystery serie and I enjoyed reading it. It is the beginning of October and Allie wants to do a masquerade ball in her house to support a local charity. But murder occurs. Alex is hired to resolve this murder and Allie and her friend Lucy are as usual helping him. Of course Pumpkin Spice Latte and other delicacies cannot miss. I like the atmosphere in the book and also the plot. I am looking forward to read next book in this nice serie.
Not only was Opal the wealthiest woman in town, she sure seemed like the nicest lady, and I really hated that she was killed off. Although she'd have been proud of how Allie and Lucy got the masquerade ball put together that Opal had wanted.
At least this time Allie wasn't the one being wrongly hassled for a death because the police believed it was natural, but Allie and some of the family knew better. What better place for a killer reveal than a big masquerade ball, right? The police got their perp, and the ball was the success that Opal had hoped for. On to read the next book in KU!
It’s Halloween and Allie gets persuaded into holding a Halloween Masquerade Ball in her ballroom. Allie and Lucy meet with Opal Barclay to start planning the event but before Allie and Lucy could meet with Opal, she was found dead in her bedroom. Her brother, Jonathan Ford seeks Alec’s help to investigate Opal’s death. Did she die of natural causes or was she murdered? Could one of her children murdered her and why? Join Allie, Lucy and Alec as they figure out what happened to Opal.
This is such a wonderful series. The mystery was great with lots of twists. The characters are very likable and the story flows well. The author kept my attention and interest throughout the entire book so much I had a hard time putting the book down. Nice plot with great lively, vibrant characters that add a depth to the read. Highly recommend the series!

It's the Halloween season in Sandy Harbor, Maine and Allie has a problem. Last year when her house was vacant it house was used for a haunted house to raise funds for local needy children. She has to turn down the request this year because she and Alex live in it now, but she really wants to help out. While sitting with Lucy in the coffee shop Opal Barclay, a wealthy matriach, suggests Allie hold a Halloween masquerade ball to raise the funds instead. Allie agrees as long as Opal will help her and Lucy. Next morning Allie finds out Opal died overnight according to the police chief by natural causes. Jonathan Ford, Opal's brother disagrees and hires Alex to investigate. Alex and Allie work together to find out who killed Opal.

Opal Barclay, a wealthy matriarch in town, persuaded Allie to hold a Halloween masquerade ball in her new home to raise the funds to benefit a local charity but the next morning Opal is found dead. Jonathan Ford, Opal's brother, disagrees with the police that Opal died from natural cause and hires Alex to investigate. Alex and Allie will need to get to the bottom of it and find the killer.
I really enjoy this book, it is very entertaining, the plot is well-written and it's a page turning fun cozy mystery with delightful characters, full of twist and turn that keep me interested from beginning to end trying to figure out the mystery and the murder. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I love this series!!!!! I can't get enough!!!! Allie and Lucy thinking about Halloween and drinking their pumpkin spice lattes, talking about a haunted house in their ballroom, when Opal Barclay (the richest woman in town) walks up to them and ask Allie about having a masquerade ball in her ballroom, because it was the biggest ballroom to have it in!!!!! And both events would be for the underprivileged children's charity for winter coats and Thanksgiving community dinner. That is what stated the deadly events for Halloween. And the mounting suspects, and Sam Bailey doesn't thing it's murder, just natural causes. When Alec is hired to find answers things really get heated and cooled off!!!! Now get this book to find out what Alec did!!!!
All my favorite characters from Sandy Harbor are back, just in time for Halloween. This was a tough one for Allie to crack and Suzette's mystery writing skills were on point as usual.
Normally when I read a cozy I "play along" and try to solve the case along with the sleuth. Well, I have to say this time I think I thought everyone was the culprit at one point or another! Very clever clues, suspect list and ending.
"Freshly Baked" is a great series that is always easy to read and entertaining and this one was no exception. If you like cozies, you'll be sure to enjoy this. (Can be read as a standalone).
It's Halloween and Allie decides to hold a Masquerade Party fundraiser. However when her co-chair for the ball is found murdered, Allie, Lucy, and Alec find themselves trying to unmask the killer. With greed over money seeming the most likely motive, which one of her family members was willing to do anything to cash in early?
