After the end of X’s race against the forces chasing him, the spark of revolution takes hold back in Haven. Tired of the oppressive rule of the Arbiters and the inequality between Slummers and Inners, young Gem takes her fight to the guards as a member of the rebellion.

But, dangerous secrets lurk within the tall walls of the city, and things much worse than greed and corruption wait for the idealistic fighters. If Gem and her friends want a chance at bringing real change to Haven, they’ll need to risk their lives, and those of every Slummer, against the oppressive regime – and a new threat taking shape down the dark alleys.

About the author

Carter J. Thompson

10 books13 followers
Carter writes books, drinks coffee, and obsesses over shoes; just don’t ask him to do that all at the same time – he’s terrible at multi-tasking. And punctuation.

Hailing from the Canadian Maritimes, he’s been from far north to far south in North America, and even to the other side of the world, but is now living in Vancouver BC with his smart, beautiful, and wonderful wife (yes, she could be reading this).

Writing somewhere between science-fiction and fantasy, he loves a good story, including his latest series Against the Night.

5stars isn't enough

Well I don't know what to say. I have 5 stars to book one but this book is on another level entirely. Carter upped their game when writing this book. Maybe it's in part that book 1 was world building and book 2 focuses on the story and characters and relationships more instead of that and it maybe it's just showing the skill of his writing.

There isn't enough stars on any chart that does this book justice. Perhaps my new favourite series

Well

That's better. At least the story has improved somewhat. Has become something more interesting. More inviting to keep the reader with it. Now for book three.
