Having barely survived the storms, Derek and Lisa’s journey to find family and safety is put to the test. Meanwhile, Isabel and Kathy evade hostile locals and a tenacious FBI agent while a mysterious organization threatens the safety of the Staggs’ children in Lost Sanctuary Book 2. Tired of the usual post-apocalyptic story? Welcome to your new addiction. A massive dust storm sweeps across the continental United States, dwarfing the storms from the 30’s and wreaking havoc on everything in its path.
As multiple states deal with catastrophic power outages, more storms roll across the country, killing millions and leaving vast swaths of the country virtually unlivable.
In the midst of the chaos, Derek Stagg must journey to reunite with his family on the opposite side of the country, hunted by a mysterious assassin and threatened by truly world-ending storms.
The second book is just as good as the first. I’m excited to read the third one. Will Isabel and Derick get back to their family? Will someone take care of those nasty Druids?
This entry was essentially on-par with its predecessor. Everything introduced in book 1 continued onward bold and strong into book 2, with the same quick pace, thrilling moments, and vivid imagery. I liked spending time with all characters already introduced, as well as being around those just being brought into play. There are still multiple POV's occurring here, most of which were equally eventful enough to keep me wanting MORE. True, sometimes I was more eager to see how a situation would work out from one perspective more than the other, but it didn't at all mean they weren't enjoyable. The only subplot that is mildly boring is that of the Druids and the Inquisitor, but I can understand the need for some type of villainy in the story.
The only reason I couldn't quite rate this book perfectly is because I still had the same grievances as the first book, in that many moments felt repetitive and overly drawn out to the point of feeling a wee bit like filler. Now true, there were multiple new revelations to be had, which made the repetition acceptable, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't have loved a little less....sameness. Often it felt like a scene would work itself out, only to dive back in all over again, just with new scenery. I also found it mildly annoying that a couple of the characters, once learning of their precarious predicament, don't really make smart choices to help their chances of moving through the story. This too played a role in things feeling repetitive.
All in all, though, I was still very engrossed in the story and am curious to know how it's gonna go. Looking forward to the next book.
I read 3 in the series, and it is one of those series best read if you go through all three at one sitting. Interesting combination of characters and an Atypical how bad can things get, or what else can happen. It fit the Faux military sci-fi post-apocalypse mad max genre perfectly.
Be warned, all three could use additional passes through an editing program.
Recommend it to anyone that just wants a simple read, where the good guys win.
Excellent 2nd book in this series on a new threat.
Traveling through a dust storm being chased by the FBI and others who are stealing as well as killing people to get what they have makes it seem like the end of the United States . Not knowing there are other sinister people chasing family members to harm them is another problem. Can't wait for next book in this series.
Reading on it’s getting better. The family is getting closer to being together. But the Druids and the Looters are still trying to take hold. Joining together neighbours in a retirement community and the family are determined to push forward. And not let themselves be destroyed.
This has a couple of plot twists that you do not see coming. I could not put this story down. Waiting for the n e xt book. Hoping to see the family together in one place and looking forward to seeeing how they will hold their ground.
Everything about this book continues to hold me spellbound. The realization that a time of tribulation such as this, affects us All in different ways, but with the same outcomes..
Really great story. Their is almost home and dad is on his way. Sand taking down the grid and has everyone fighting and there is the hidden agenda of the politicians. Great read.
Bring on number three. To watch and follow the rebuilding of our nation. Young &old joining to make a strong nation one adventure at a time. Bring on the next adventures soon.
A massive dust storm causes havoc everywhere. How will people survive this. Everyone tries to help and save each other. There’s no getting away that this is a fabulous story once again.
Lots of guns and violence in typical disaster fashion. The retirees are going to beat the druids and derek and isabel hopefully will make it back to the kids and grandparents
There is a lot of action, though I'm a bit puzzled that places far away from the southwest/former Dust Bowl region have devolved into anarchy as well. A knock-on with the grid would be disruptive, but this seems excessive and unrealistic. I do like a lot of the characters, especially Milton, Riley and Derek. Dana has some potential, but the government seems way too laser focused on two women who survived a plane crash and are trying to get to their families and work place in the midst of disaster. Capturing them will not help the general problems from this disaster. I'm also still struggled with Druids being such murderous mobsters. Maybe it is because I play World of Warcraft and one of my characters is a druid or because I've seen the guys that go to Stonehenge for the Vernal Equinox. I just can't see Druids at the heart of a mafia organization that apparently has tendrils at the top of the government. I can't see it, but I will admit it is innovative.
