On His Ranch

Rate this book
On his ranch, she'll call him daddy.

Piper Larson may be down on her luck but she's no thief, and when Chase Whitfield catches her trespassing and accuses her of stealing she's indignant. Despite her furious protests, however, her defiance is soon dealt with by means of a sound spanking over the firm-handed cowboy's knee.

The strict correction leaves her sore, sobbing, and shamefully aroused, yet Piper soon finds herself helping to cook breakfast the next morning with her cheeks still blushing and her bottom still sore. But if she stays on his ranch it won't be because Chase needs help with the chores...

It will be because she needs a daddy.

The kind of daddy that will take off his belt when his little girl has been naughty.

Publisher's Note: On His Ranch includes spankings, intense and humiliating punishments, and rough sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

A cowboy set in his ways . . .

A lost Little, in over her head . . .

Piper never thought she'd find herself on the run and spending the night in a stranger's barn for the night just to rest her tired feet. But that's exactly what happened when her excitement to finally start her own business leads to some not so stellar decision making on her part.

When Chase, the owner of the barn, confronts her, she becomes the number one suspect of the mysterious accidents that keep happening on Chase's property. Piper knows she's not the real culprit and after getting to know Chase and his family, Piper knows that she's finally found a home, with people who care and love her. She's ready to embrace this new relationship but Chase is harder to read and these two have a lot of communicating to do before they get to their happily ever after bit.

I liked Piper and I definitely tended to side with her more and more as the story progressed. Patti was also an awesome supporting character that I really came to appreciate for all her support and care for Piper. Senior (Chase's grandpa) was harder to warm up too. He was just too strict and stern, there was very little softness or affection from him. As for Chase, he definitely takes after Senior in that he is very hard to read and keeps his emotions deep DEEP inside! I wanted to love him but he was a bit too heavy handed for my tastes. Poor Piper spent more time crying and with a sore bottom than she did anything else. There was also the big discrepancy between the spankings/punishments and the aftercare/cuddles.

I've read and loved Ranch Rules and The Ranch Contract by this author and tbh I was expecting more in that same format. A dominate and in charge cowboy taming his little girl with encouragement, love and when needed, a over the knee punishment. This one went in a different direction.

On His Ranch lacked the romance and the after care I'm used in DDlg books. Piper's devotion and emotional attachment to Chase emphasized how one sided this arrangement was. She was open, trusting and eager, he was distant, stubborn and emotionally closed off. Towards the end, Piper was strong enough to love herself enough to distance herself for her own good even if that meant getting away from Chase. Loved watching her stand up for herself. It was heartbreaking but also empowering for her character.

Chase finally realizes his mistake and opens up about his past and apologizes to Piper. I would have loved for Piper to really make him work to get back into her good graces, but that wasn't who she was *sigh* She was a sweetie who had a heart big enough to forgive him and still give him her love and trust.

Overall a good read, not my favorite :( I prefer a stern Daddy, even a rough Daddy but there needs to be tenderness, affection and aftercare. This one fell short in that department. A hard limit for me is harsh punishment with little to no provocation. There needs to be proper build up for this type of relationship and there needs to be honesty and trust for it to work. Chase and Piper fall into their relationship way too quickly and there wasn't ever any clear rules or expectations discussed before hand so it felt like Piper blindly, without even knowing it, broke Chase's rules. Sometimes it even felt like Chase was just waiting for Piper to break his rules so he could punish her. It bordered on cruel and sadistic. Then there's the whole little to no after care and I found it hard to connect with this story's romance plot. It didn't help that Chase takes his past hurts out on Piper, punishes her in anger and her transgressions aren't forgiven and forgotten afterwards.

After reading this one, all I wanna do now is go back and re-read The Ranch Contract and Ranch Rules. Those are two I can highly recommend.

ALL SHE NEEDED WAS A STRONG, FIRM DADDY

I will start by saying the book is well written by an author I usually enjoy reading. But, I struggled with this one—not the writing style but the context. I would read a chapter or two and have to stop because I was shocked and appalled at the scenes. Why did I keep reading? Because I wanted to see this book turn, but it didn’t really change until the last couple of chapters, and at that point, I felt it was too far gone to be redeemed.

Yes, the story is about harsh discipline, humiliating punishments, and rough sex—but it involved non-consensual and dubious consent by coercion. As for the characters, Chase Whitefield is a man with issues and has no business taking his anger out on Piper Lawson. This is not sweet, and it is not in a loving, committed relationship—while not what some people deem as abusive, it actually is a different level of abuse. Abuse of authority and trust—which is even worse.

Rule One: Hard work comes before reward.
Rule Two: Always mind your manners—no exceptions.
Rule Three: Protect those weaker than yourself, whatever the cost.

The story’s plot will have Chase finding Piper asleep in one of his barns, and he decides she might be the thief or one of the persons causing problems on his family’s ranch. She is a lost, down-on-her-luck girl who has made so many bad choices. Chase is an angry, bitter man, and while he has his rules, he pushes things too far. (3” thick wooden items—that is the length of my middle finger!) He uses multiple harsh implements, to begin with, but wielded by a man with a nasty attitude.

“I’m goin’ to teach you a lesson you won’t soon forget.” His free hand reached across the table for the wooden ruler he kept on his workbench. He’d made it himself—twelve inches of solid cherry wood. It had the inches marked off, and was three inches think. It worked fine for measuring, and even better for paddling naughty bottoms.”

“This isn’t a ping-pong paddle, Piper. I made this myself for paddling naughty little girls. The amusement in his voice was evident even though she couldn’t see his face. “It looks like one, I s’pose, but I wasn’t thinkin’ about that. I just needed somethin’ nice and wide, and heavy, of course. This is three inches thick.”

Chase has been dealing with issues on the ranch and refuses to get the law involved. He hasn’t been in a relationship for some time because she wasn’t what he believed. Then, Piper shows up; he doesn’t trust her, thinks she is hiding secrets. His anger during ‘his brand of discipline’ was disturbing. Piper is scared, confused, and needing acceptance. She may call him Daddy, and he called her ‘little girl’ and ‘baby,’ but it sure isn’t a loving relationship. She pushes his buttons, bringing on more harsh discipline. Not a bright girl at all.

“She couldn’t help feel like her secrets were exposed to him, and she didn’t like it one bit. It’s not fair. I can’t believe I stopped here to catch a nap and ended up in this nightmare. If I’d have known that this would happen, I would have kept moving.”

“I don’t know where you come from, but we work hard on this ranch, and we sure don’t waste things because of a temper tantrum.”

“She scowled. It didn’t help her mood any to be reminded that she’d entered into this barbaric arrangement. After all, what choice had she had, really?”

I have no respect for a man who uses his power and authority to coerce and exert their control, calling it justified discipline. He is so blindsided to what he thinks he knows (and he is wrong) and uses that to punish and hurt—because he does hurt her and seems to be delighted in the pain he inflicts upon her.

I've read other books by this author and I feel that the narratives depict absolute viciousness towards the MFCs while retaining inexplicable affection for the domestic abuser MMCs. This is true here.

DNF and this author is now on my never-again list: no other author channels what comes across as complete hatred for her own gender as this one.

“On His Ranch” is a contemporary, western romance by Dinah McLeod. I’ve waited a couple of days to write this review because I always want to be fair to an author, letting a story settle in my head before putting an opinion into words. Unfortunately, the more I think about it, the more uneasy I am about the story. There are scenes of ‘rough’ sexual relations, but to be honest I didn’t think they were all that rough compared to rough scenes in very good books I’ve read – so it’s not a matter of me having a problem with the sexual content or anything like that. My biggest issue with the story is the fact that Chase, the “Cowboy Daddy” referred to in the title of the book, is actually a hypocritical sadist with anger issues. He claims to live by three rules:

Rule One: Hard work comes before reward.
Rule Two: Always mind your manners—no exceptions.
Rule Three: Protect those weaker than yourself, whatever the cost.

Well, he violates all 3 rules when dealing with Piper, a young woman at least a decade younger than him, who has very little experience with men. He also punishes her for being disrespectful, yet he’s repeatedly disrespectful to her. Piper is a sweet girl desperately in need of love, friendship, care and emotional support. Chase doesn’t trust her at all but can’t resist the attraction he feels for her. He also recognizes right away that she’s a ‘little’ without the life experience to know it. He makes a big deal about the responsibilities of being a ‘Daddy’ – he stresses what a big decision it is for him to make regarding committing to such a relationship with her.

He gives Piper what he seems to think is the great gift of himself – and then he punishes her cruelly with the intent of hurting and bruising her. He doesn’t just want to see pink and red impact consequences from his ‘discipline’ sessions; he wants to see bruises. When he’ll says that he “would never beat any woman’ he also makes it clear that he believes if his aim is focused on her bottom and the backs and inside of her thighs, he can do anything he wants. He clearly has experience ‘punishing’ women, but since he doesn’t speak or think about it to give the reader any context, it all just adds to the creepiness factor.

Chase never initiates a conversation about contraception or their respective sexual histories, but he doesn’t even use a condom. He never speak to her about a safeword, and doesn’t ask her to choose one nor gives her one. How is that appropriate behavior in keeping with his character in the story? This book is a work of fiction, intended for entertainment. It isn’t supposed to be an instructional manual for a D/s or DD/lg relationship. I totally understand that. But I can’t really enjoy a book when the male lead character is so horrible and doesn’t sincerely and substantially seek to redeem himself. A reader doesn’t want to wish the female lead character found somebody else at the end.

At the very end of the story, Chase finally expresses a tiny bit of remorse for a very small bit of his behavior, and just a couple of minutes later everything is forgiven. His explanation for his distrust of women and cruelty towards Piper didn’t do much to sway my negative opinion of him.
I think this book was particularly frustrating because it could have been a really good story. Even Chase’s family members were set up to be good secondary characters, but fell flat in the end.

This story is somewhat extreme in the spank bank category. When I got this ARC the BLURB said it included extreme power change scenes and spankings etc. but the extent of these scenes still surprised me a lot. The story was not just degrading occasionally but constantly, and even though some spanking scenes can be thrilling to read these somehow always went over the top and went directly to the extreme of all extremes!! So as I was already prepared to read a story that was really testing my morals which I find always good once in a while to read something out of your safe area- this one was so far from that so that in the end I can only give this story three fine stars.

I know that this book is supposed to be about harsh discipline, humiliation punishment, and rough sex and I have no problems with any of these things which is why I took this book in the 1st place. My issues arise when it doesn't seem like punishment it seems like abuse even the rough sex danced too close to the line for me. I read all kinds of dark books but don't pretend it's something it's not. Abuse is NEVER OK and abuse is abuse period. Haven't we gotten past justifying bad behavior?

A good story

I’m of two minds of whether I loved this story or just liked it. I do enjoy a story about Littles and their Daddies, but the one thing that I didn’t enjoy was the amount and types of spankings that Chase dished out to Piper. The characters were great, but I found Chance to be too quick with his punishments and the ferociousness of them. The whole relationship between these two was very sweet in the end and they finally found a balance that was enjoyable to read.

I am voluntarily leaving my review for this book and this is my honest and fair opinion.

Chase was too full of his own secrets, a tyrannical sadist who couldn't be less Daddy-like and Piper was afraid to be forthcoming with him. Should have a trigger warning because reading this book was too much like reliving my childhood.

Wrote this a few months back and forgot to post it.... so yeah, I obviously didn't like this.

DNF---Not joking at all here, but when we are first introduced to Piper, the way she acted I was wondering why Chance? Chase? (One is the name of his horse the other is the cowboy, I think) anyhow, I was wondering why The Cowboy didn't even consider if she had some learning disability; Like maybe she had brain damage as a kid and stayed at the emotional age of like 12. Once again, not joking here, but she had the emotional maturity of a middle-schooler. Not like she likes fart jokes once in a while, but in a way that I wondered if she was a little neurodivergent. He thought it was adorable, I found it worrisome.

Also, does he pull down the pants of every person that trespasses on his property and spank them? If so, why hasn't anyone called the cops on him yet.

Got about two pages into chapter 4 and stopped there. Piper was just too dumb for me to enjoy this at all. Not personally into the little girl and daddy thing in books, but I'm okay with it if it's just how she acts with her partner, but she seems to be like that in general, as a person and with everyone.

No stars since I DNF...

Bossy Daddy by MeemsAngel82

This is my first book by this author and I LOVED it!! The characters were fleshed out, the heat level was through the roof...I was super curious about this book and glad I took the chance. I got this free ARC from BookSprout and gladly, voluntarily leave this review.

A sweet girl with dreams of her own ends up in a bad situation and finds herself in yet another situation, this time a good one. The man of the house, our H, finds this poor girl and immediately starts with her. Back and forth, they both can't stop this attraction and the need for one to discipline and for the other to be disciplined. Hot times follow, punishments that are also quite pleasurable. I did want to smack our H and he should have been the one to give in essentially, first.

Great read and I will be reading her books again. I loved our H to a point but I wanted to shake him so much and I ADORED our h. Such a cutie! I think our H needed to grovel his butt off more as well. I look forward to more books by this author! And if you like...er..corrective ☺...um...discipline , you'll love this one.

This was a great story by Dinah McLeod. I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Piper is struggling right now. She loses her apartment and has no car. She decides that she needs to walk to her aunt's house. Before she can make it there, she stops off in a barn to take a quick nap. She doesn't expect her life to change forever. Chase has always known that he was going to a rancher like his grandpa. He finds a girl sleeping in his horse barn. They don't get off on the right foot but soon they begin to learn about each other. Something strange is going on the ranch and Piper only wants to help. Chase doesn't want help. Will he change his ways before he loses her?

Piper is down on her luck and Chase finds her sleeping in his barn. The first thing he does is spank her! I found this to be scary for a woman with Little tendencies. And the spanking he does give her is bordering on abusive. Actual blisters? Nope. I do like the interaction between Chase and Piper, but Chase needs to get himself under control before he can be a Daddy to anyone. I do like that they have a HEA and things get worked out by the end. This is one of my favorite authors and I definitely will come back for more of her books.

Cowboy rule #4.
Chase was cowboy all the way early to rise and worked hard plus he was gentleman. Then this cowboy found a stray in his horse shed by the name of Piper and she has a bit of a problem. The book is pretty much I expected but I do think some of the punishment was a bit harsh perhaps even abusive. There is more to the story and it ended okay. This is my least favorite book by this author but it was still okay and I enjoyed reading it. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.

When rancher Chase finds Piper sleeping on his property, he is certain she's a thief. She's not, she's just down on her luck. Getting her bottom blistered is scary, but touches her in a way she can hardly comprehend. She doesn't want to finish her journey. Then things start happening around the ranch. Is it someone after Chase and his family or did she bring trouble with her? There's some hard spanking in this romance.

This is a dark, well written story with an intriguing storyline. There have been some incidents that are happening on the ranch so when he sees Piper he thinks she's part of the problems he's been having. Chase catches Piper trying to sneak away and takes her back to the barn where she had found some refuge walking to her Aunts. Chases quickly gives Piper the spanking that she needs. They have great chemistry with some very hot scenes. There tends to be lots of spankings, maybe more than needed. Holy hotness this book had me hooked from the beginning until the end and the storyline flowed throughout the book and you will definitely fall in love with piper and chase. Chase has been burned before but when he finds piper in the barn and someone shot at them will he be able to trust her? This book has it all little action, suspense and steamy sex scenes and DdLG play.loved it.

This is a story that will take a lot of thinking about as you read. Piper Larson and Chase Whitfield's story has a man that can not let go of something from his past, that makes him believe all women are out to get him, so he acts based on that. I enjoyed seeing him realize his mistakes and learn how to love again. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
