BE STILL MY HEART, I AM HOLDING MY SHOUJO FAVES!!!!! IN MY HANDS!!! EEEEEEPPPPP!!

I have reread this series AT LEAST 6 times (that I've counted) on KMANGA and easily won my favorite read of 2024, making this one of my most anticipated releases of 2025!

IT WAS EVERYTHING REREADING AGAIN BUT PHYSICALLY!!

I purposely waited to reread the story and I'm glad I did because while I deeply loved it just as much as the first time, there was something incredibly special holding this story physically that had me slow down and appreciate the art, the dialogue, and the overall story. I felt myself falling in love with these characters all over again and my heart felt so happy and light from being with them!

However, one thing that stood out to me reading this time around is how Momo and Ichikura are BOTH wanting to change. I mean I feel I KNEW this, but seeing that unfold in how both are struggling with them having changed physically, but still feeling the same on the inside was more eye-opening to me compared to my previous rereads. I feel in the past I focused more on Momo wanting to change, but rereading this time makes me realize that Ichikura is the same way, it's just more subtle than her story. Plus it's REALLY hard not to laugh when Ichikura goes from "nerd" to "delinquent," which makes me feel bad but between how proud of himself he seemed to be and Momo freaking out, it made for a hilarious moment!

Yet the sincerity between them despite Momo's fear is so heartfelt, and I think that is shown beautifully in the "pinky promise" moment. Knowing what the future holds for them and how they are growing together makes my heart feel all the warm fuzzies! <3

As always, the art was super fun, and I loved not having to squint on my tiny screen to read parts (which was AMAZING)! Plus lots of fun lettering that wasn't in the KMANGA edition and enjoyed seeing how the letterer would make fun font choices to convey shock or "cute," making it even more of an enjoyable reading experience!

I would HIGHLY and definitely recommend checking out this series if you love delinquent manga and looking for a fun story of characters falling in love and growing individually!

I AM OBSESSED!!!

From start to finish, I simply could not get enough of this one! It had the perfect balance of humor, minor action, drama, and romance and head over heels for this series!

If you like Love, That's an Understatement and want something similar but with a little more comedy, this series is it! Thankful K MANGA has it on their website because I will be binge reading!

I’m not sure if I just missed this on release or it was a busy week or if the title just made me shudder too much, but… look, it’s not even a pun. I know they’re probably working hard with that translation, but Rowdy With A Chance of Meatheads it is not.

Anyway, my point is, I skipped this. And for no good reason I decided to buy it anyway. Which all worked out in the end, since this is emphatically not heavy reading, but it is a seriously solid shojo romp that ticks just about every box you’d want from something like this.

As a bonus, it’s sweet AND funny. Early on there’s a very small image of Momose, our heroine, as she fails hard at the cooking club and it’s funnier on its own than anything in the entire last volume of Komi Can’t Communicate.

The conceit is that Momose has done her high school glow-up after being harried by delinquents all through middle school. She’s still a klutz, but wants to have a better time during the springtime of her etcetera. Enter Ichikura.

Glasses-wearing Ichikura ends up partnered with Momose in the Helpers Club, which Momose rightly deduces is shorthand for being everybody’s dogsbodies. They have to do a raft of tasks, which actually works in the story’s favour because it lets them do a variety of stuff (plus it lets us see Ichikura hunched over gardening like he’s smoking behind the gym).

What quickly becomes apparent is that, despite his glasses and studious nature, Ichikura is cut from the same ripped cloth as the delinquents who wrecked Momose’s middle school life. Except he’s trying to reform. Badly.

This sets the stage for something that’s a lot more heartfelt and friendly than it seems to be going, as Momose and Ichikura both try and move on from what people saw them as in middle school. This is another nice touch - they’re both trying to better themselves and Momose’s approach to not punching things meshes well with Ichikura showing her how to stand up for himself.

While a lot of this is from the basic shojo playbook, it is being done delightfully well and I loved watching these two bounce off one another. Momose is obviously falling for Ichikura and having a hard time with it because of his old persona, which is often closer at hand than his intentions to reform would suggest.

Naturally, Ichikura deploys his fists only in defence of others and to keep people from being jerks. Yet even this is already changing as the story rolls along, much as Momose is trying new things and fitting in so much better with her new class.

These two just work together, minus one really incongruous instance where Ichikura wrenches Momose’s face, and it’s incredibly easy to just sit back and enjoy this light-hearted romp. It feels weightless, but behind all the silliness there’s a good message to it and two great characters.

There’s always just that little bit extra that makes things really pop. When Momose needs some tutoring, the way Ichikura goes about it is actually really reasonable and some of the most believable tutoring I’ve seen in a manga. Is it necessary? Heck no, but it helps it feel a bit more natural all the same.

Yeah, Momose gets harried a bit, but she holds her own and the flashbacks to her middle school years aren’t the fraught moments of, say, A Silent Voice. This keeps its tone note perfect pretty much the entire time. A real testament to how you don’t have to be original, you can just be really darn good and that’s more than enough.

5 stars - no, really, I loved this that much. It’s one of the best shojo titles I’ve read in ages and there’s just something about it that made me smile the whole time. Very refreshing and very enjoyable.

Picked this up on a whim from the library. It's fine. This series has the potential to be more but leans generic at the moment. On top of that, things are moving a bit fast. I'm not that invested in their relationship yet.

So cute!! Loved it. I really like this dynamic between these two characters, and how they both want the exact same thing but for opposite reasons and how their friendship/relationship is developing based on that. I’m so proud of Momose for becoming more courageous and standing up for herself! Even when she’s in the wrong she’s trying to be different than she was. And I’m proud of Ichikura! Gosh. Cuties.

very cute shoujo manga with a green flag mmc. it’s so refreshing to read wholesome highschool romance stories because they’re so adorable! former delinquent meets sweet and shy girl in this manga perfect for fans of fragrant flower blooms with dignity <3 the slowburn and forced proximity trope where they’re just getting to know each other is very adorable.

Absolutely loved this to the point I read it twice in one sitting!!

The story follows Momose, who was always bullied by delinquents, now wanting to start her high school life by not interacting with them. That hope is short-lived because she soon meets Ichikura, a former ex-delinquent. From there, the story follows both characters trying to change for very different reasons while supporting each other.

Yeah, I loved this. I couldn’t stop smiling while reading this because it was refreshingly new for me. Both Momose and Ichikura want to change for different reasons. They aren’t second guessing themselves or allowing their pasts to affect their present. They actually support each other either through words or actions, and I love how they see each other. They don’t ignore or act indifferent and I am looking forward to seeing them grow more romantic feelings.

The story is fast paced and focuses on Momose and Ichikura around a school setting. Honestly I didn’t mind the fast pacing because it worked since the characters carried the story. The plot and execution is quite simple but it carries a heavy undertone. Also, there are currently no significant side characters, and I don’t recall their families being shown. Maybe they’ll be more predominant in later volumes, but I’m just hoping there isn’t a love triangle or if there is, it is very short.

The artwork is simple and clean but effective. It has a gentleness to it which makes it captivating. I loved how the story focused more on the characters, their expressions and their emotions through iconography. It made the story that much more interesting and enjoyable. That’s not to say there aren’t any background, because there are, but they are simple and only present where needed to support the plot. I honestly love this execution because it works for this character driven story and it’s done well. Also, I love Momose and Ichikura’s character design and how they sift through various clothing and styles. I always love it when author’s change them up.

Overall, I loved this volume and I’ll be continuing this series! I recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for pure shoujo fluff with refreshing characters.

“‘You’re the first ‘good delinquent’ I’ve ever met, Ichikura-kun.’”

So, I love this.

In this first volume, we meet Momose and Ichikura.

Momose is a clumsy girl who comes from a middle school that was full of delinquents and troublemakers who bullied her. In high school, she’s reinvented herself and is trying not to be the mousy girl she was. She’s also hoping to avoid any and all delinquents.

Enter Ichikura.

With his glasses and calm, studious demeanor, he seems like an upstanding guy and good student. When Momose joins a club with him, she expects smooth sailing.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Ichikura quickly reveals to Momose that he is a former delinquent.

Though he’s turned over a new leaf in high school, he can still be rather hotheaded and pick fights—especially when he feels like doing nothing would be lame.

He promises Momose that he won’t pick fights. But, is that really a promise he can keep?

This is such a “me-coded” story.

I love a good, semi-reformed bad boy. Can’t deny it. And, he intervenes when men are making girls uncomfortable? Sign me up.

This is my own personal fantasy fulfillment right here.

Plus, the plot ain’t that bad. It’s nothing hard-hitting. It’s a little silly to be honest. But, it’s got more than just a veneer of plot.

The pacing seems a little fast. But, I get the feeling this is meant to be a shorter series. So, I’m not knocking it too much for that.

Anyway.

I liked this story. I’m looking forward to reading more.

If you are a reader who enjoys a contemporary romance manga series and/or a fun slice-of-life story with some romance thrown in, I’d encourage you to check this one out~

3.5 so easily rounded up. Is this amazing? No but it damn is good. I have a soft spot for delinquent looking / delinquent with a heart of gold shojo romcoms and this one's breezy romcom vibe was very fun. This one definitely runs a bit on vibes over substance romcom-wise but it is still such a treat and the romance really sets in by the end. The characters are fun and it's enjoyable to watch this reformed delinquent go in and out of his old ways or still have elements that are just innate to him now. I do hope those elements are kept even though he's trying to “change” though with how the story is going it looks like its going for sadly it might start diminishing. I'd onto think he'll eliminate all his tendencies as it is central to comedy but I do think it'll be reduced. The ending was super great as the romance started to really mesh and it was so sweet that
The art is pretty good though the paneling is so small. Everything is so closed off to a panel. Nothing feels like it's given the space it requires and many things that could be full pages are instead half pages and the like along with some odd excessive white space. But the art itself is nice especially the wild faces of Ichikura the delinquent as he's frequently drawn slightly catlike in this really fun manner.

Review of entire series

While the volumes are quite short (and some end quite abruptly) the series is just pure shojo fluff. We follow Momose - a girl who was formerly bullied by yankees in middle school - who is now in high school and made a promise to never interact with yankees ever again.

Plot twist is, she acidentally ends up hanging out with an ex-yankee and somehow falls inlove with him. For me, this story works because Ichikura actually cares for Momose and makes a conscious effort to keep his promises to her. The fact that he's also pretty thoughtful of and cares for her doesn't hurt either. He also has this little fang that pokes out of his upper lip... but we're not going to talk about that😊

My point is, often in shojo romances, the male MC is often cold and distant which pisses me the fuck off (picture me side eyeing the ever loving shit out of Itsuomi from A Sign of Affection). Ichikura in this, however, is forward, loud and proud of his affections towards the pretty but very clumsy Momose

In the later volumes, we meet 2 of Ichikura's former yankee acquittances (friends?) one male and another female and it was lovely seeing those friendships bloom, especially with the tsundere Igarashi

Cute book with all the tropes of delinquency and clumsy mc. I don’t mind her being so shy and keeps to herself. I’ve always liked the trope of the character learning to speak up and defend themselves. Especially when a delinquent.

Idk how I feel about her telling him to stop fighting even though he fights to defend people and keep the ‘weak’ safe. Told her to stand up for herself.

They mention change and a fresh start but from my understanding, he’s changed a lot. Still it’s only the first volume but he’s apart of the helpers club, he studies, and again helps others. He doesn’t fight anyone unless they’re disrespectful or threatening to put their hands on him.

I don’t like her being so passive though. I understand she’s been picked on bullied but I think it’s a bit unrealistic for her to want people that are bullies to not get beat up, or at least scared so they do it again. I hope he teaches her that.

Him asking her out was cute, especially calling her out on her behavior of comparing him to her bullies. I like that he called her out but still was cute and sweet to her

My rating is probably more of a 2.5!

This wasn't bad by any means, I thought the characters were very cute, but the writing to me felt really... choppy and off? It felt like the pacing was really fast and nothing really hit deep for me. There were some really emotional undercurrents, like the protagonist's past being bullied and made fun of, but the way the mangaka communicated that, it never really properly communicated her deep pain to me, if that makes sense? Everything was very light and surface-level so nothing really pierced through me that hard. But I did think that the art was pretty cute and the character's had a sort of nice dynamic at times.

i read this for the plot (and the plot being ICHIKURAAAA) i've been wanting to read bc he's been showing up on my recommends for so long and he's just soooo mfing hottt???? probably the hottest manga character for me in my opinion (hey! i like my guys in glasses + he's VERY attractive) i like how the author draws his silly smiles!!

not much for the (actual) plot tho i was surprised that the plot was like that 😭 and this is way too short tbh so i get why it's fast paced i just wanted more chaps for more build up tho :(

I had been waiting for this release for so long and it did not disappoint! I loved seeing this story about two club members getting closer, Ichikura, a nerd that used to be a delinquent and Momose, a girl who does not like delinquents, meet in a helpers club. She realizes that he’s an ex delinquent and keeps his secret. They get to know each other, Momose helps Ichikura buy some normal clothes for a class hangout, afterwards, Ichikura helps Momose study for a quiz. At the end he asks her a very important question!!!

hmm. cute and fluffy, an all-around pretty solid start to the series, but so far the characters and relationships seem a little superficial....it's lacking emotional depth. though, I do realize that I read this right after vol 11 of a condition called love, so my perspective might be off. the art is well done, and ichikura is a refreshingly upfront male lead (rather than being aloof or downright cold), but I'm not feeling the chemistry between them at this point. I will maybe try one more volume before I decide it's just not for me.

I can't decide between rating this 4.5 or 5 stars.

I like that he didn't say the usual stupid annoying, "we can't be together, you're too good for me," etc. I'm so tired of that in so many stories, so that was refreshing.
The ending did surprise me, I wasn't expecting that from him, at least not yet.

I'm definitely going to buy vol. 2.
