The Lost Lines #1

The King's Omega

Rate this book
They’re going to need a bigger dungeon.

When you’re the last Omega in the world, forced to mate with a cruel, kitten-stealing king… well, it’s a good thing his four sexy generals know how to storm a girl’s castle.

But can they convince her to fall in love, without falling for her themselves?

Born long after the plagues that killed every Omega on the continent, Vali is the lost Omega prophesied to save her country.

All she must do is mate King Rigol… but he can’t stand her. He thinks Vali is a dirty, foul-smelling brothel maid, and falls for her treacherous mistress instead.

When the king realizes Vali is the true Omega, she still can’t love him, even if she doesn’t hate him quite as much. Sure, he gave her kitten back, but he’s already mated… to the enemy.

Can his irresistible generals convince her to fall in love—or at least in bed—with King Rigol? Perhaps, if they all torture her together.

Sweet, sexy torture.

The King’s Omega is a full-length standalone fantasy with multiple love interests and a guaranteed HEA (Happily Ever After). There is profanity, violence, explicit, steamy scenes, and references to past and present sexual trauma. Additional content warnings are in the Author’s Note just inside the book—please read before deciding if this book is for you! Adult readers only, please.

✅🆗 Smut

1.5 stars

I don’t get why this book got so many 5 stars reviews. The smut is good, but that’s about it.

For our kingdom to survive the coming war with Verdan, we must find the King’s Omega, receive her gift—her gold—and share it before the battle.”

This book felt like a Fanfiction honestly. The pace was choppy and there were so many things happening but not being detailed or explained! The plot seemed to jump from one idea to the other, without real development or closure. Days would pass and we would know only because we were told so. Relationships developed over the span of a few pages because everything was rushed and underdeveloped and it felt like there were too many ideas in this short book.

The ideas were not bad, but the execution was seriously lacking. The characters have no depth and their interactions and dialogues were cringy half of the time. The alphas (with the exception of Rigol) are not that bad, but overall they were not present or active enough in the story for me to really like them.

There is smut, but again, it was cringy half of the time. I’m used to reading RH and omegaverse stories, I love smut, but Vali was shy and innocent half of the time, and then she would suddenly be a sex-driven woman, talking dirty and asking for more,, and more. I don’t mind the innocent omega or the sex-driven one, but the combination of both felt so weird, especially since she went back and forth from one to the other.

same. he have an axe handle in his pocket? I gave it a brief stroke. A thrumming, low growl emerged from Axe’s chest, and my eyes flew to his face.

Also, the fact that she’s 20, grew up in a brothel but couldn’t recognize an erection when she touched one, and was talking about “butterflies in her stomach?” without understanding what was happening felt quite juvenile and even childish at times. I mean, I know she was not a prostitute, but touching something hard in the private area and thinking to herself that he has an ax handle in his pocket? Really? I honestly felt like the MC was 14 yo for the first half of the book (except for the smutty scenes) instead of being 20 yo.

I heard the author took into consideration the criticism from some reviews and made as many changes to her book as Amazon allowed, so I decided to remove my review until I can read the new version and make a decision 😊

Note: The second edition of The King's Omega (with The Queen's Nest) is available Nov. 20, 2025.
The new, rewritten version of Vali's story has 10,000 more words and irons out quite a few of the debut wrinkles! https://books2read.com/vali

Hi, baby author Merri here! The King's Omega is my debut romance. This was my passion project, the book I just had to write no matter if anyone else ever saw it. The one I said was just for me because I couldn't find anything exactly like it out in the world, and I really wanted one with just this level of angst, and this level of sweetness, and this level of steam (which apparently is a lot? You can judge.). Thank you SO MUCH for reading!

My main character, Vali, is naïve and good-hearted, and her guys run the gamut from cuddly, giant teddy bear Alphas to the prickly, cold one you really want to kick in the #$%@^!.
It is Omegaverse so there are interesting physical traits, knots and nests, and it is for adult readers.
No, really. The sexytimes are all explicit and steamy. Be aware there is a strong element of age gap in this book, and a scene that may strike some as dub-con.

You can read on Kindle Unlimited for free, or buy the e-book or paperback... and if you want to share your reading experience with me, I would love to hear from you! www.merribright.com

BTW:
The sequel epilogue with steamy parts and new characters you will love as well as all your favorites is available! The Queen's Nest: https://books2read.com/thelostlines1-5

Note: I will be releasing a new version of this book in 2025! It be re-edited, with extended scenes and some of the debut rough spots smoothed out. Follow me here for the latest. www.merribright.com

I was not expecting how bad this book would truly be. It was overly bad, and I can not for the life of me understand the 5 star ratings. Probably the worse omegaverse by far. From the choppy story telling, the book is pretty much all over the place and completely madness. The characters are down right ridiculous, I didn't like a single one person here. The lack of brain cells these characters showed was a real prize to behold. the writing skills and story telling here are of a juvenile with a bad case of ADHD. This is not a missed opportunity of a good book, the story is just bad.

Oh my….. wow, seriously wow 5 hot dudes and an absolute amazing FMC.

Loved, loved, loved Vali. She was just too sweet and innocent and yet exposed to everything NOT sweet and innocent. Saying that though her upbringing created the genuine person she was and to see her grow on this journey was just so amazing to read. I loved reading Vali and when she got to a bed and pillows and blankets which was soo cute to make her nest.

Axe…. oh wow, Axe was hands down my favourite and it was enjoyable to read his character and his interactions with Vali. These two were so sweet together and so happy that she had that connection with him from the outset.

The twins Tarn and Lorn were lovely and cute as was Vulkurn. They were each lovely guys. I liked their back story and how they all came together as a unit which was great.

Rigol out of all the men, was a bit disappointing and took not that much to redeem himself I had to say. Once he sorted himself out he was actually really nice and very nice to Vali.

Overall, it was an enjoyable story. I loved all the main characters and it was an interesting take on the Omegaverse. It was an easy story to slip into and just get swept away with this lovely story.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This wasn’t great, but I’m not going to rate it because it’s a new author and I skimmed hard after 35%. The plot sounded promising with a mate rejection and OW drama, but it just didn’t flow well.

The blurb is a smidge misleading. Vali (the h) is working at a brothel for the evil Selene (OW) when the king (Rigol) is drawn inside by his Omega’s scent. He technically doesn’t reject Vali because both Rigol and Vali think Selene is the Omega. But… the rest plays out like it states. (bonding with his generals, etc.)

The book had a few issues…

Rarely a book comes along that you just cannot put down. For me this was that book.
Imagine not knowing where you came from and not knowing what you were. I'm going up in a brothel as a servant, and thanking your body was broken because certain things could not happen. You become a maid for the most vile female also a prisoner of the Brothel.
The king searches for his omega The prophecy speaks of stumbles on you and your mistress. He sees her but thinks you are horrible creature. Only has it generals see you for what you are.
Others are gonna want you for what I'll make us we're supposed to be able to grant to her mate in times of battle.
War is coming. Which king will be graced with her gifts? Of the five generals oh she end up made it to the executioner, the thief, the advisor, the dungeon Masters/torturer…?

Oh, I have new book boyfriends, and fortunately for you, Imma share them. Merri Bright just wrote a tasty, yummy book that is here to save your TBR list from monotony.

The King's Omega is an RH Omegaverse novel with a touch of magic and a lot of steaminess. See Lorn and Vulkurn, the two hottest of Vali's males. Well, Axe is the sweetest, and Tarn is the most clever... Rigol is an asshat of all proportions, but there has to be one in every bunch.

Vali is introduced in the prequel novella, The Omega's Mischief, a great introduction to this Omegaverse series. I did have one tiny, 'hmmm, tell me more,' moment at the end of the novella when I wondered if the man chasing her is one of the main dudes in The King's Omega. Maybe Merri Bright could kiss and tell us if Vali has encountered a certain spymaster in the past when she writes her next book!

I loved this book, and it was one of my favorite reads of this year so far. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a Historical hot Omegaverse with lots of heroes and a heroine who can save herself.

Five mischievous stars.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.

Idk man, the first half of this book really grabbed me. Then all sorts of craziness happened and I skimmed the remaining, feeling super disappointed. The author was on track to redeem Rigol in my eyes, then suddenly added in unnecessary angst and OW drama. He’s still a big ole turd in my eyes, no one can tell me any different, and Vali should’ve never mated him. It was like she was stuck with him.

Axe was the only redeeming MMC that I really liked. He should’ve been her only mate. Everything and everyone else was rushed and too little too late.

Let’s start with tropes that I noted from this book, they include but may not be limited to…

📕 RH
📚 Omegaverse
📖 Standalone
📕 Multi POV
📚 Humorous
📖 Royalty
📕 Nesting
📚 Knotting
📖 Brothers (2 sets, including 1 set of twins)
📕 “Innocent” FMC

With a main character that is completely unaware of how clumsy she is (isn’t it weird how all these things around me keep breaking?), a gentle giant (well, gentle with her anyway), a dark spy, one twin who loves the ladies and another who loves to read, a king, and a mischievous pet kitten, this story is full of characters you will love, and some you’ll love to hate.

What a great book. I giggled, I got mad, I got the urge to adopt a kitten, and I’ve got a new author to stalk.

The story for these characters is complete in this book, so no cliffhanger.

disappointed

I made it to 94% before I quit because of what happened. I liked all the characters except for Rigol. I hate him and that’s why I can’t finish. I can’t stand for women who fall for there rapist. and while he didn’t rape her he tried and was cruel and I’m so disappointed she actually mated him. I though it was coming and was about to stop reading then it seemed like it worked out perfectly and she wouldn’t so I continued. And yea what a let down. He ordered her tortured, injured her cat, tried to force himself on her when she would willingly mate him and was cruel but because he’s her mates brother she can just forgive him? Nope. So disappointed because this was a really good read but that just destroyed the book for me.

This book hurts to read

This book really hurt me to read. I’m not saying I disliked it, exactly, but it was painful. Throughout the entire book (until the very end) the only one of her men who treated her like she was worth more than her ‘omega gifts’ was Axe. At one point the King tried to forcibly take her. If it wasn’t for her ‘opening’ being closed off (because she wasn’t turned on) he would have literally and actually raped her for real.

The other guys just took and took and took. They treated her like an object. She had to work as a servant in the laundry room when she was supposed to be the king’s special omega. The only omega left in the entire realm and they made her feel worthless while also taking from her body what they wanted. I feel dirty.

I mean, yeah, there was a HEA…but it felt like it was a little too late. This book left me feeling kind of raw and I need to read something extra sweet and romantic to get this out of my mind. This is not one I’d like to ever read again.

This was trash🙂 For some reason I found myself wanting to give it 2 stars -cuz I'm generous like that- solely because of how comically horrendous it was the entire time. But then I remembered how utterly exhausting, disappointing and cringey it was to keep reading.

Rigol- Complete horseshit, unfathomably idiotic, like having only 2 brain cells stupid, like possibly having no brain cells when you think about it, cringey bastard, etc.

I actually tolerated Axe, Lorn, Vilkurn and Tarn even though they kinda rubbed me the wrong way at times. This book is teeming with misogyny, sexism, classism, disturbing opinions and attention on virginity and every grimy thing that exists on this earth.

I have no idea why I put myself thru this torture... Lemme go bleach my eyes💀

Dnf at 51 per cent.
I could not get into the story. The precious omega didn't want to have sex with the king while he was treating her terribly, so they sent her to work in the laundry. Nothing says love and romance quite like washing their dirty sheets.

Cute and funny but maybe a little bit too quick for my liking.
It would've be nice if it was fleshed up a little bit more, it reads like a novella in terms of the plot and actions.

Rating and Review

Rating: 3 Stars

Full transparency: I’ve only read a few Omegaverse stories, as I’m not personally a fan of the themes and story components prevalent in the AU. Take into account said pre-established dislike of the genre when reading my review.

I went into this not expecting to like the FMC, Vali, but she won me over. She oftentimes felt like the only competent lead character, despite her guileless personality and ignorance of her Omega nature.

I didn’t really have a problem with four out of five of the MMCs: Vilkurn (Master Spy/Torturer), Axe (Executioner), Tarn (Thief) and Lorn (Diplomat). They weren’t fooled by Selene’s act, and they saw Vali for more than her Omega status, unlike the fifth MMC, Rigol.

Rigol might be the King, but he acts the Fool. He allows himself to be tricked by the evil other woman not once, but twice—despite the fact that the four other MMCs warned him they didn’t trust her, Vali warned him she was evil, and Selene herself lied repeatedly.

Detailed account of Rigol’s stupidity ➞

I normally don't leave reviews but I felt like certain things needed to be pointed out in this book. Since I dont want to be mean i'll include positive things as well.

1. Innocent doesn't mean juvenile. Vali felt more like a child mostly because she just could not hold a proper thought process or be serious about anything. She jumps all over the place and has lots of random crazy ideas, she was honestly pretty vapid. I think innocent characters can be quite cute but this wasn't done well here, the Vali was too childish.

2. The author's writing style was charming and there were lots of funny cute moments and I love that she really let that side of her writing flow. I hope she develops and continues this.

3. I didnt like that the men all knew more about Vali than she knew about herself. This just plays into the idea that men should have more autonomy over women's bodies and I didn't like it. Idk if its a trope or if it was supposed to help push the idea of Vali being so innocent. If its the second on i think the author should find other ways to express innocence in a character.

4. The author took omegaverse and put her own spin of it, which was nice. I enjoyed the concept and can appreciate her attempts.

5. The not like other girls trope is also present here and idk if the author did it on purpose. It was pretty annoying to read that Vali wasn't like other ladies that the men had interacted with who were well mannered and smart because they cared about politics and things like that no Vali was a simpleton and that made her oh so attractive to these high ranking officials who were totally hot for her. Yea this was how this came off to me, like Lorn/Torn thinks about this comparison while looking at Vali and its gross to me. Maybe the author should think a little more about some of the unintentional tropes she ends up writing since those are her real weak points.

6. I dont want the author to be discouraged, I honestly dont want that for any authors but I hope if she reads this she can find it somewhat encouraging and know that I think she has lots of potential and can improve over time. Im willing to give her that time and support her journey.

this is actually the worst spin on omegaverse i've ever read. it's so entirely misogynistic i'm screaming. first, there are only male alphas and female omegas, which completely misses the point of a/b/o being SECONDARY GENDERS. second, after vali (her name is novalia, which means worthless apparently, and that's so accurate) shaves all the hair on her body, she says she "finally looks like a woman" um HELLO?? REAL WOMEN have body hair. not to mention all the infantilizing language the men use to describe her. she's so small and petite and tiny itsby bitsy with a small mouth, small fingers, and barely any curves. maam, that's a preteen. this author also clearly lacks understanding of female anatomy, which is consistent with the rest of their knowledge. and the sheer amount of slutshaming in this book. apparently, it's perfectly fine for the men to "fuck their way through the city", but when a woman does it she's labeled as a whore with crotch rot. and also the built-in masochism that these omegas have??? girl wtf are you writing. i swear this author probably wrote this book with fifty shades of grey in the background.

ms. worthless keeps mentioning her "too-short nose" which makes me imagine her looking like a pug. she has the personality of a pug too.

and the men in this supposed harem? all they think about his having sex with her and how to use her to save their rotten kingdom. not about what she wants or needs. and this rapist king is the worst of them all. holding her kitten hostage?? that's the most pathetic thing i've ever seen a male character do. he also orders the other guys not to touch her or he'll kill them. tbh, if i were them, i would stage a coup.

i swear, this was written by a man using a woman's penname.

Very surprised with this sweet Omegaverse RH

Since this was my first RH I've read, I wasn't sure what to expect (other than the obvious). I didn't know if the story plot would be strong enough to make the book interesting and it not just be...sex. Not that I'm opposed, but I like a good, believable story as well. Now onto the characters:
Vali was the star of this story and she was interesting to watch blossom under the tutelage of each of the men.
Rigol was hard to like in the beginning and my least favorite. I felt like his complete personality change towards Vali felt more hormone induced rather than genuine.
Axe. Oh, Axe, was my absolute favorite. He's sweet and protective and everything an Alpha should be. I'm so glad Vali felt the pull to him first and not anyone else.
Tarn and Lorn were devious and sweet. They brought some comedic relief to the serious group.
Vilkorn is just torturous in his seductive ways. He was a real surprise in this book. At first, I didn't quite know what to make of him, but he proved to have Vali's best interests at heart.
All in all, I enjoyed the blend of Omegaverse and magic/blessings. I thought it was a unique take that hasn't been thoroughly explored in the Omegaverse world. Looking forward to seeing more from this author.

I stayed for battle Axe man with no vocals from the land of BFG’s.

Everyone else, ESPECIALLY the king, is dumb, pointless and boring. They were just cannonfodder for the sake of highlighting how desirable this absolutely daft omega is.

Plot holes. Lazy characters. But I’m still team Axe-man.

Ugh, DNF.

Our FMC Vali is an orphan who grew up in a brothel and has no idea where she comes from. Vali is a sweetheart! Innocent to the core with some mischief in her. She quickly comes into contact with King Rigol, who is on the hunt for an extinct Omega that is prophesized to be in his kingdom. Needless to say that first interaction does not go well, and Vali dislikes him for quite a while. But then come Axe, Lorn, Tarn, and Vilkurn 🥵 and totally makes up for Rigols assness.

If you've read The Bridge Kingdom, you'll recognize the plot set by King Milian. Absolutely loved that bit!

The whole world was different, I absolutely love when historicals are mixed in with fantasy/paranormal 🤗

This is a new author for me and man oh man am I excited! This book grabbed ahold of me like an omega locking an Alpha and didn't let me go until the last word was read! This was Omegaverse with a few differences I won't share you'll just have to read this book to find them. I was shocked to say the least but they definitely fit this story. Vali is a very good FMC omega who didn't know that she was an omega, raised in a brothel but a virgin. A Prophecy leads king Rigol there and he takes an wretched female as his mate thinking she's his omega because she used Vali's scent. Him and Vali didn't get along at all, he was a jerk. Axe is illegitimate brother who is mute due to taking an assassins blade to the throat to save Rigol is everything an Alpha should be, so are the rest of the guys. It's only towards the end that the king makes me say oh he's just a dumb dumb several times over, not my favorite character but still the king in this story. What a story, it has action, lies, betrayal, idiosy, love, loyalty, war and interesting written omega lore. It's fresh, original world building make for a very good read!

Pretty funny. I passed by this book, I don’t know how many times being like nahhhh I’ll pass. UNTIL today, I read the sample and it sucked me right in. The FMC is funny and the her commentary is good (reminds me of the FMC from Lost Feather -book 1, she’s just says funny shit/good timing).

Middle of the book was meh, almost like the author wrote the first half of the book, put it down for a while then came back to write. It’s just feels different.
ok finished the book and was ok. I made myself finish it may or maynot have skipped a few sentences to get to the end quicker hahaha. Won't be continuing to book 2. Supper po as the beginning was soooooo good

I really enjoyed this RH omegaverse set in historical fantasy setting.

The language was quippy and more than often I caught myself snickering at the puns and innuendos.

I do hesitate on this review because it was a lot of how little the heroine was and how she was *definitely* 20 even though she was so petite, and how big the males were.

Also the king was stupid and I didn’t want him redeemed honestly.

Even with those two hiccups; I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed the pacing, the plot, and the unique setting.
