The Piece I Needed is a short story that features an engaged couple that is going through a tragedy when an accident leaves one of the characters with amnesia.
This book definitely had me questioning my morals and how I would handle this situation. Danai finds herself in a pickle when she is torn between being present for her fiancé when he suffers a horrific car accident and is in a coma. I think Danai handled the situation as best as she could. She had some guilt about the whole thing and I think she blamed herself for the accident..if only she didn’t call Khaleef and distract him.. 🤭 I felt bad for Khaleef because he truly didn’t understand or remember what had transpired prior to the accident so it was like he couldn’t defend himself for what he was accused of. He handled things really good. Danai was torn, I think she wanted to forget everything that had happened but her friend was constantly in her ear about moving on. Smh. The book moves really quickly but it is a complete story. I loved the ending, I wish Danai hadn’t jumped to conclusions so quickly because she misinterpreted the entire story and almost lost the man that loved her more than anything. Very good read! ❤️
This was such a good read. It was unique and I was fully hooked at the intro. I was anticipating Leef getting his memory back and Danai telling him what she learned. I could not predict how things would turn out!
I really do not like when vague accusations are thrown around without actually confronting the whole issue! "Oh, you know what you did!" Say what now?! How about actually discuss what you're upset or angry about please?! If only Danai had waited to confront her man face to face or actually discussed plainly what the issue was...smh. She was already holding it against him about her giving up her dream job for him so when she saw what she saw, it wasn't hard for her to get all up in her feelings and start flying off the handle before sitting down with Khaleef and having a real conversation. If they handled that job thing way back when it happened, then maybe things could have proceeded with some sense of rationality. That's why you can't be holding in things that bother you. Get that stuff off your chest. Hollering and carryin' on got that man not paying attention to them crazy drivers! And her friend Jalissa?! She was gettin' on my last nerve! 🙄 Since she had so much to say, why didn't she do some investigating like a real friend or at least pushed Danai to do what she should be able to do as a darn journalist! Even before finding out the truth, wonder what had Jalissa changing her tune all of sudden though. She about gave me whiplash! But at least that whole thing had Khaleef wanting to give Danai everything, including supporting her in what she always dreamed of doing.
Whew Chil, Queen A.S. Wilson had to be stressed writing this cause, Bay-be I wanted to chock Dani🤦🏾. Her friend Jalissa irked my nerves too, but that's what friends do when you tell them your business🙄. They never let it go even when you've made the decision to move on. Dani messed up by assuming Khaleef cheated on her and in the process things in their life changed for the worst. Him having amnesia do you thebrain injury he suffered didn't help the situation at all. Now instead out her talking to her man/fiancé she continued to discuss their issues with her bestie all while expecting him to magically remember why she's do angry and withdrawn from their relationship🙄. Then finally she decides to end things and because she assumed the worst she made an as*of herself cause Redd (Khaleefs sister) gave her the truth and she had to let that information sizzle in her spirit and go get her man back. Now Khaleef most definitely had his flaws and in suffering the brain injury he humbled himself and realized how insecure he had been when he practically made Dani choose between their relationship and her dream job😡. This book definitely proved how important communication is in your relationship. Glad these two got it together and the ending was perfect🖤 Would love a follow-up featuring Jalissa and Meek🤞🏽😘
So I liked the story mostly. I didn't like that she had black grown supposedly black people sounding ignorant and uneducated.
I do not know of any grown black people who call one another beeches or use the word nigga.
I am not sure how the world of professional sports for example talk as I don't bump shoulders with them. Many professional basketball and feet all players go straight there from lower economic areas.
Lower class individuals with little to no ambition and or success may talk in the way these characters did but it's offensive to make a book with the stereotype that others hold against us in a for all to see. However, what other race would read such a thing?
I am struggling trying to find good black authors who don't produce trash. This almost could have been universal and for a diverse reading pool had it not been for grown men And woman with broken English saying the N word. Instead of "N, why not use fool, boy, ass or punk.
This isn't a good book about gangs. It's a book about a journalist and an engineer. So why haven't either of them mastered a sense of pride in who they are? Neeega and beech really? Disappointed in this author lack of vision. Did her publicist make her make it more urban? Either way black explotation by. Black author is not cool!
Ma'am you did not have to drag my emotions like this! I found myself bouncing back and forth rallying for both Khaleef and Danai as they went through their issues. Danai was a real one, for being there for Khaleef after finding out what she did. My heart broke for Khaleef not knowing the people closest to him, and feeling the disconnect with his fiance. Although Khaleef didn't remember Danai, he was determined to try and find the connection, to get them back to a good place. Danai, was still angry with Khaleef, but still had so much love for him, that she didn't know if she was coming or going. When Reed helped Khaleef piece together Danai's claims, I was stunned! Danai, how are you a reporter, and didn't do more digging than that? 😂 This was a heartfelt, sweet story. Really enjoyed it! Great job! 👍👍👍
Danai and Khaleef were engaged to be married, but when Danai finds out a secret about Khaleef, she calls it off and Khaleef ends up getting hurt. After waking up from his coma Khaleef doesn't remember anything, but Danai sticks by his side. While trying to regain his memory, Khaleef finds out something about himself that he wasn't expecting and why Danai didn't want to be with him. When the truth comes out, they both fight for each other. I was not expecting this story to be like this. I couldn't put it down and finished in one sitting. AS Wilson blew me away with this book and I wanted more. Now Danai should have asked question instead of assuming it was true. What I loved most about this story was the way they feel in love with each other all over again. I can go on and on about this story, but I want you to read it for yourself!!! Excellent read...
I couldn't fathom being in the shoes of either main character in this book. Couldn't imagine my life being flipped upside down, twice, in a matter of minutes and then being left with making life altering decisions. On the flip side, I couldn't imagine waking up to a life I couldn't remember and feeling in your gut that the person you're being told you chose to spend the rest of your life with can't stomach being near you but is doing everything in their power to care for you. All while trying to piece your life back together mentally. I wanted this couple to win, despite their circumstances. I couldn't help but root for them. I thoroughly enjoyed this short read from beginning to end. Definitely one I'd recommend.
This was my first read from A.S. Wilson and I am blown away. Danai and Khaleef’s story was beyond beautiful, and I found myself rooting for them to find their way back.
Wilson is a beautiful writer, taking the reader on an emotional journey with the characters. Her pacing and development of the story was strong, and her poetic style created some absolutely swoon worthy moments in this book.
I cannot wait to read more from her catalog and I absolutely recommend.
Ms. Wilson I enjoyed this novella, it shows the power of healing. Khaleef's head injury changed the trajectory of his relationship. His accident was a blessing because it brought the unveiling of secrets, re-established a career, as well as blossomed and expanded the relationship. Danai and Khaleef needed the time it took for his full recovery to fall in love again.
This is a fantastic read, that will have you yearning for more. Danai and Khaleef had a little hiccup but they got back on track. I wonder did their big announcement birthed Meek and Jalissa's story. I would love to read about them. It seems their story would be highly interesting. I recommend this book, download and partake.
I loved Kaleef and Danai. Misinterpretation and lack of true communication almost cost them everything. After an accident left Kaleef a stranger in his own body he was able to reinvent himself but he had hurdles to cross over. Luckily, love won in the end but it look some twists and turns to get there. Let’s get Jalissa a love story next. Good story
This was most definitely a very unique storyline. I was so upset for Sis because I couldn’t imagine dealing with that kind of hurt but chhhiiillee that plot twist came and changed the game. 🤧 Very cool spin on a Love Story for sure buutttt now I’m wondering what’s happening with Meek 👀👀
Danai was a witch!!! For her to be a journalist, she sure didnt do any further investigations. Then she was so cold towards Kaleef. She had enough time to work through it while he was in the hospital. Thank God, Kaleef was a patient man because he had enough to deal with on top of her funky attitude.
Oooooo I was so mad at Khaleef!!! How dare you cheat on Danai?? How dare you disrespect your partner??? She was better than me because he would have been sitting in that hospital by himself. But everything is not as it seems. Fortunately, this couple was able to get all of the secrets out in the open and be better for it. Great read as always!!!
I couldn't imagine what both of these characters went through. Communication played a big part in the issue that changed everything. Dani should have asked questions before she made those assumptions. I for sure didn't expect that plot twist. I'm glad things worked out for them.
Really cute story about giving second chances to each other and to yourself. I really liked how things worked out for Khaleef and Dania individually and as a couple!
I enjoyed it very much. This was a great read. I enjoyed the characters and loved the storyline! This was my first read by this author and I will definitely check out the rest of her work!
The short story was good don't get me wrong but everything could have been solved with some communication.imntiredbof grown adults not communicating with each other..I was hoping they did not stay together
The plot twist was dope in this cute story. Communication is so important in relationships. Lack of it can ruin even the most perfect unions and I love this perspective.
When the heart knows what it loves, it won't ever lose it's way! This story was so beautiful in love, forgiveness, compassion, & understanding. There was so much suspense laced in the misunderstanding of what piece was missing. A great story!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! An unfortunate accident helped reshape a relationship and get it back on track. Assumptions caused distance between lover.
