Genius Has Its Price, Book 9 in Cocker Brothers, Ethan Cocker:
I love to work because it's a passion, not a job. I've been hired to unmask a hacker by a woman I've mistaken for a man. Whoooops. Kinda made the same mistake Dad did with Mom. But this Charlotte - aka Charlie - she is whip-smart, man, and keeps me on my toes. For a computer genius like me that's saying a lot. She's a puzzle I want to solve... but I've got more than one. Like, who snuck into my house and left this window wide the f**k open?
An author, actress, and filmmaker, Faleena Hopkins writes primarily love stories with heat and humor. Sometimes with supernatural tendencies since fantasy and magic are a passion.
She lives in Los Angeles, CA, with her dog, Sophia, where she spends too much time behind a computer (but secretly loves every second).

Title: Cocky Genius: Ethan Series: (Cocker Brothers of Atlanta #9) Author: Faleena Hopkins
This is book #9 of the Cocker Brothers of Atlanta, but it's only book #2 of the second generation of Cockers.
➦Ethan, son of Jake Cocker, billionaire & Cocky just like rest of the males in his family was hired to track down a hacker for Wyntech
➦Charlie Reed of course most people think with A name like that would be male, guess what Charlie is one sexy red head that’s is the CEO of (Wyntech) her family business
Ethan might have billion but you wouldn’t know it by the way he dress, the man doesn’t care what people think of him as long as he is comfortable. With that said you can imagine how surprised Charlie was when she meet Ethan for the first time dress in ripped jeans, sneakers & formfitting shirt in the cafeteria sparks fly between the two of them To say he was out place in professional was understatement
➦ This is Romance Comedy with twisted I didn't know if I would like reading this next generation of the Cocker family- but we are 2# books into the next generation & all I can say is WOW Faleena Hopkins KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
➦Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion
➦**"I voluntarily reviewed this ARC" ..** .**In exchange for an honest review.**
➦Faleena Hopkins- I was incredibly honored & thrilled to receive a very early copy of her new book Cocky Genius: Ethan -Thank you Faleena Hopkins I really appreciate the opportunity.... Can't wait to read the next book in the series
I agree with some peoples assessment of Ethan, but you're better than me if you finished the book because I just couldn't get past his off putting demeanor. It went beyond the other Cocker Brothers previously in the series, and I've read them all and enjoyed their cocky confidence, but Ethan went overboard and into a unflattering attitude that detracts instead of atract and I'm not interested in a "romance" where I don't see the appeal or hope of him growing up and acting like a true love interest. Plus, his first interaction at the office was difficult to look past. I wouldn't be as forgiving as Charlie Reed.
However, I strongly recommend every other book in the series as up to this point, I've read and loved every single one of them. All solid 4 stars!
*updated to change from 2 stars to 1 star. with the news of the authors behavior I just couldn't in good conscience continue giving this book 2 stars. The 2 stars were ONLY given because I had liked the authors previous work and the writing and editing were on point. Since I no longer respect the author, I had to take away the last redeeming star. With a retraction and public apology from the author, I might reconsider.. as it stands I'll NEVER read another book by her or any assumed pen names either directly in response to "cockygate". Greed isn't attractive.
DNF. This is a book that speaks directly to you ... what? It was annoying, to say the least. Which made it difficult to read. He is speaking as if you are in the room with him and you can see what he sees, like:
"Holy crap did you see the lightning? Incredible, huh? Back to my mother fucking story"
How was any of that relevant? Would have been cooler if by the time I read that part lightning actually flashed outside, but no, so disappointing. And this was just the first chapter!
I would have tried reading this if the story was more appealing, but I'm just looking for a quick read.
With such uninspired and overused titles I’m not surprised she needs to cheat in order to keep them original. Instead of threatening people she should use the time to come up with something new.
Wow another great book in the Crocker Brothers Series. I have blocked out the rest of the world, while reading about the Crocker family. They are such a great close nit family. This book has the humor, a big twist at the end and amazing characters. The banter between Charlie and Ethan is quick, smart and will have you laughing out loud. The emotional 😭 family times will have you looking tissue. This is book is just all around fun and steamy romance. Oh my gosh, I was dying laughing reading this book. The author started talking directly to the reader which made this book more enjoyable.
Book 7 - A Honey Badger’s Xmas Honey Badger and Margaret Book 8 - Cocky Senator’s Daughter Hanna and Tobias Book 9 - A Cocky Genius Ethan Crocker Ethan & Charlie
Ethan is a genius and that’s not exaggerating. He’s made billions in developing cutting edge technology. He’s not interested in what people think of his outward appearance. But he’s gorgeous and cleans up well. He’s also notorious for love them and leave them playboy. Ethan lives up to his name cocky, arrogant and at times obnoxious.
Charlie inherited her grandfathers business and she became CEO at a very young age. She’s tough and a no nonsense women. Ethan makes sexist jokes and teasing Charlie, which is before he knows how she is in the company. She snaps and is quick to show him the exit, and there journeys begins with laughter and some serious crying. Then she realizes the Ethan is the only person that can save her company. Charlie and Ethan has that kind of forever love that the Cocker family cherishes. Get the tissues ready.
Ethan Not only was I excited to see her again, I was feeling pretty proud of myself for having figured out who she was to this company. “Ms. Reed…so I was right! You are Charlie Reed’s daughter.” Her eyes flashed and she crossed her arms too, slowly walking to stand in front of my desk. “No, I’m Charlie Reed, you sexist slob.” I froze. My mouth dropped open. I blinked a couple times. “You’re the C.E.O. How old are you? I thought you’d be a man!” As soon as the words fell off my tongue, I regretted them. Especially after the sexist jokes I was throwing at her yesterday. None of them I meant. What a fucking idiot us geniuses can be. That was why most of us are introverts. We say the stupidest shit in public.
I love, love, love Faleena Hopkins’ writing style. It’s always smart, funny, sarcastic, sharp and somehow super sexy too! Once I start into one of her Cocker Family books, I block out the rest of the world and I’m suddenly back in Atlanta with the close-knit and somewhat crazy Cocker clan.
Ethan is a genius. No, that’s not exaggerating. He’s like off the IQ charts genius and has made billions in developing cutting edge technology for the military, private corporations and anyone else who can afford his extremely specialized services.
He’s also a bit quirky – see porpoise fountain in his temporary office…
He’s a bit of a slob and tries not to care what other people think about his outward appearance.
He’s gorgeous and cleans up nice. Women fall all over him, but he hasn’t yet found his match. Notoriously a love ‘em and leave ‘em player, he sees his cousins starting to settle down and start families and he knows that when he eventually meets the right person, that’s what he wants too.
He definitely lives up to his name as cocky, arrogant and at times obnoxious. Usually in jest, but he does have some moments where you do a double take and think “Did he really just say that?” :)
Charlie is a tough, no-nonsense woman. She inherited her grandfather’s business and became CEO at a very young age. She’s used to working against the old boys club, but when Ethan starts making sexist jokes and teasing Charlie (before he realizes who she is), she snaps and is quick to show him the exit.
Little does she know that Ethan could be the only person who could help save her grandfather’s company and Charlie could be the only person who could save Ethan from himself and give him a chance at the kind of forever love that the Cocker family cherishes.
The banter between Ethan and Charlie is quick, smart and will have you laughing out loud. The emotional family times will have you looking for a tissue. The sexy times are crazy hot and will have your kindle fogging up! It’s just an all-around fun, steamy romance. So pour yourself a glass of home-made ginger ale and settle in for another fabulous Cocker Family love story.
Part of the Cocker Family series. You don’t have to read the previous books in the series to love Ethan’s story, but you should when you get a chance, because the whole set is funny, sexy and smart. <3
I've read every book in the series so far, and have for the most part enjoyed it. This one just feels off. Ethan comes off as a creeper with the way he treated Charlie from the get go. It's harassment, even if she liked flirting with him. I'm not one of those people who some refer to as "snowflakes" as takes every so super PC, but if you un objectively look at his actions and the dialogue in the beginning, it's just inappropriate and not fun sexy. He is just super crude and it made me not enjoy the book. I honestly don't know what Charlie saw in him. He's offensive and rude.
When: your brand is cocks, and males with Cocky attitudes... then you trade mark "Cocky" and develop a bad attitude yourself; you KNOW you just fucked your career... I hope you got a pen name and a backup idea, because Cocky just fucked you royally.
Can't support this author any longer. Absolutely appalling behavior on her part to try and financially hurt other authors by trying to claim a common word "cocky". Hell, this WAS the Cocker series, but apparently in her greed she changed it to the Cocky series. #freethecocky
I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book, Cocky Genius by Faleena Hopkins.
I can't help it, not that I want to, every new book of Faleena's I read becomes my favorite. I just finished, Cocky Genius and I want to read it again! It is book #9 of the Cocker Brothers Of Atlanta but it's only book #2 of the second generation of Cockers. I have read them all and love them all. Each one is a standalone with a HEA. This is one series, I will drop everything for. The emotions I felt while reading, Cocky Genius, were all over the place. I was bawling my eyes out at one point and laughing my head off the next. Faleena tried something a little different with this one and I LOVE it!! A little something special in Ethan's story.
Out of all the Cocker family books I've read so far, Ethan was the absolute most fun! It was totally not what I expected, but thank goodness for that because it would have been just like every other book about a sexy computer geek. Ethan is like no other, that is for certain. I'm so in love with him!! I felt pretty bad for Charlie and her unhappy life before Ethan. Sure, she thought she was happy enough with life until Ethan showed her what was missing. Oh....and let's not leave out the crazy twist with psycho 1 and psycho 2. I was really not expecting that whole scene with the 2 crazies at Ethan's house. I mean I realized Stacy was nuts not to long after her encounter with Ethan, but I was pretty surprised to find out she wasn't the only one. I mean, WOW!! I'm so addicted to this series....it just keeps getting better!
So it seems somebody got very disturbed with my previous review and decided to flag it although it didn't contain any profanity addressed towards the author. Anyway since I have to focus my content on the book itself I will say this: the series is a waste of your time, every book is almost the same, just change the names and some situations. Copy paste and all that. I absolutely loathed the book and I do not recommend this to anyone.
If you are still disturbed by the review, well at least now it is nicely put between the guidelines.
FALEENA ROCKS IT OUT AGAIN!!! A MUST READ!! OH MY, MY, MY, MY!!!!, April 23, 2017 By Angela
This review is from: Cocky Genius: Ethan Cocker (Cocker Brothers of Atlanta Book 9) (Kindle Edition) Oh my gosh what a wonderful read!!! Faleena Hopkins outdoes herself again and again. I am so in love with this Cocker family. Once you have invested the time to read about this family, this book is more impactful when you read it. Ethan is the genius son of Jake and Drew Cocker, (which have their own book Cocky Roomie) who has the world by the tail even more than his father and mother did. He is a genius who has developed extreme computer technology that has skyrocketed his life into the upper crust of society. Even though he is very rich and has more than most anybody else, he is starting to become lonely and wanting more substance in a relationship for his life. He is realizing that a bunch of non committed affairs with other women are not cutting it anymore. When he is called to Wyntech to find a hacker, he doesn't realize it at the time but he is finally going to find the answer for his life. He is so smart, and cocky and not worried about opinions of the rest of the world. He has unruly, sloppy hair, dresses like he's just hanging out at home and a devil may care attitude. Why not? He has it all. Money, good looks, a famous family, did I say money, and a mansion. Not a house, but a mansion. He has a sarcastic and confident tongue, and doesn't seem to care about the rest of the free world. His main love and loyalty are to his family and rightly so. They are his best confidants and his only friends---although, if you haven't read one of these great books, you should know that there are 17 cousins, so it stands to reason that he has enough trusted friends huh.? Anyway, Ethan is a really cool guy with it all, except for that right girl, that is the main goal of all the Cocker men. He will know it when he finds her. Charlie, a red head with blue eyes, has suffered some loss in her life and is now the CEO of Wyntech. She is in a mans world, but can definitely handle her own when it comes to this business. She has hired Ethan to find the hacker in her company, but has no idea what he looks like and has never met him. All she knows is that he comes from a wealthy and influential family and more importantly, he is the best man for the job at Wyntech and that's all she is worried about at the time. What she doesn't realize is that soon, she will be thrust into the presence of Ethan and the world as she knows it will be forever changed. Charlie "Charlotte" Reed is a very beautiful, smart and conscientious woman who wants to make sure that she runs this company of hers just as good if not better than her grandfather. She has some struggles, due to some pain in her past that cause her to be very guarded when dealing with men and her business. She always remains professional and doesn't allow herself to live and be seen living except with her friend. When she finally meets Ethan though, she is unable to control the feelings that assault her and leave her wanting more. She is immediately taken with him and as he is with her. He had no idea that Charlie was a woman and now, he all he wants to do is spend time with this woman. (You should read Cocky Roomie, Ethan's parents story to understand the "male" girl names--makes it more meaningful--really--read it). Anyway, Ethan and Charlie become an item quick and there are major fireworks and love that melt your heart. These two very brilliant people are the ying and yang for each other and it is so fulfilling to read about a couple that has such love and respect for one another. The story is beautiful and very well written as always when reading one of Faleena's books. It has the family gathering at the famous Cocker BBQ, a family emergency that draws the clan together, grams, the beauty of the Cocker clan (again read the father's books of all these children), and an ending to keep your blood pumping and want to cry. If you have never read one of Cocker stories, you have seriously missed out. I have read them all and been so entertained by each of them. I love the Cockers and you will too. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Faleena Hopkins for sharing her Cocker family with us. I very much recommend this book to all of those out there who love the gift of multi-generational family, trust, family values and deep love. Once you read one of these, you are hooked. Out of the park again Faleena. I voluntarily read this book as an ARC for an honest review and because I just can't get enough.
Whilst this book is written differently to the other books in this series, in that there are three (3) different types of narrative: alternative point of view of both Charlotte (Charlie) Reed and Ethan Cocker as well as Ethan talking directly to the reader. This in itself, I found a little too strange - although it did suit his personality.
Ethan Cocker is the direct descendant of Jake & Drew from Cocky Roomie. He is a self-made billionaire who does what he likes and his sense of style doesn't suit his personal tastes. He is very casual but not lazy - despite how this may portray to others, until he meets a fiery red-head in the break room at Wyntech Industries.
Charlie Reed is the CEO of Wynech Industries and has employed Ethan to find who has hacked them and resolve the issue. She is old fashioned in her sense of worth (from her grandparent's upbringing which was strict and lacked love). She feels she has to prove herself constantly to the board of directors to her CFO. Meeting a unkempt hottie in the break room and subsequently insulting said person, only realizing afterwards the person she has insulted is the same person trying to fix their security issue leaves her flustered.
A challenge to a game of golf with a side-bet, both Charlie and Ethan are determined to win for their own reasons. Ethan changes the venue from Georgia to Scotland and although she is shocked initially, she quickly realizes the chemistry between them is mutual.
Their romance quickly develops into something more substantial and when Charlie is kidnapped, Ethan has to utilize everything he has to find her.
I loved the chemistry from Ethan to Charlie including the bickering to and fro. They both are strong personalities but at the same time hold a lot of respect for one another which is carried into the story. But the love between them both shines through. A perfect soul mate love story.
What's even better is the final bonus epilogue. There is one small (or shall we say large) section which made me laugh immensely... Ethan's own unique superhero. Faleena Hopkins was able to capture that moment so perfectly, that I nearly got into trouble with my own husband with how much I was smiling!
I recommend reading this series, because well, they are just so good.
We say the stupidest shit in public.
“I stared at her and knew in that instant that I was going to make Charlotte Reed fall in love with me.”
Ethan Cocker, gorgeous billionaire genius, has a new contract to shut down a hacker and plug leaks at multi-million dollar corporation, Wyntech. When he meets a sexy redhead in the break room, they get off on completely the wrong foot. Her coldness and scathing tongue brings out his cockiness, as well as has his libido rising. What he doesn’t know is that she’s the CEO, Charlotte (AKA Charlie) Reed.
“I was beginning to believe our chemistry wasn’t normal, that something real might be happening to us, and it was tempting to follow my instinct but I wasn’t that brave.”
Charlie is blown away by Ethan’s sexiness but she needs him to get her company back on track, and the board off her back, even if he is a sexist slob. However, when she’s challenged to a bet and he totally dazzles her with his efforts, the chemistry between them heats up. A woman who’s looking for long-term commitment, she throws caution to the wind for a fling with him. But, what she hadn’t bargained on was them making a deeper connection.
So, this story started off somewhat unusually, and I’ll be honest and say that I was a little thrown by it and didn’t really love it. However, when we get into the main story, I thought it was funny and really sexy, with great snappy dialogue, hot scenes, and a solid storyline with an unexpected twist.
Ethan is so confident in his own skin and completely irreverent – he’s so cocky and his conversation is outrageous! LOL. Charlie is a woman in her late 20s but with an old-fashioned air about her. Her upbringing was pretty rigid and she really needed someone like Ethan to bring out the real, more down-to-earth Charlie from beneath her classic, elegant façade. I’m extremely partial to smart men with smart mouths, and Ethan definitely had me swooning!
It was wonderful to see all the Cocker family again and I just can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I'm going through some transition in my own life at the moment so maybe that's why some aspects of this book resonated so strongly with me, maybe its just that good! I was able to work out a few things for myself during the journey along side Charlie and Ethan that would have taken me much longer to conclude had I not seen it written out in front of me. I laughed , cried, giggled and swooned and felt all the feels. The cover of the book is a disservice to the literary gem within. When I see books with those types of stock photo male cut outs and one or two worded titles that sound more like American Gladiators names than book titles , I (like so many) pass it over with the well deserved stereotypical prejudice assumption that it's a cookie cutter , half-assed , banged out over the weekend , and tossed online via a self publishing app. I read this one because it was suggested to me via goodreads by one of my blog followers. I am so glad that I did. Instead of the adult version of "mad libs" for romance writers that I was expecting, I got a thrilling and soul searching experience that introduced me to a new series I will happily pay for, and follow with much adoration. Thank you for this book. Hillary Marek (Maliceon Books)
Once I had the time to start this book I literally could not put it down. I love Ethan's sense of humor, I laughed so much, especially when Charlie would get so mad. She was so straight laced she had no idea how to take him. Ethan was able to open Charlie up and let her figure out who she really was on the inside, she just need to know it was ok to be flexible and live a more relaxed life. A life with Ethan, who she knew she had a connection, the same as Ethan did the minute he saw her. Now if they can get rid of all the crazy people who stir up trouble, but even that, although serious, had its humor. As light and funny as the book was in parts, it had its serious moments, so serious for any family but in true Cocker family style they all band together. The scene between Jett and Micheal Cocker had me in tears. I love this series. I thought the Cocker brothers was the best to beat all books but their children are right there with them. Cant wait for the treat of the extended scenes, and of course the next book. A lot of children to cover...Yea!!! You have to read this series.
I received an ARC copy for an honest review. Oh wow... whenever I think there can't be another book of this series with a story as catching as the ones before I was clearly mistaken. Ethan's story is another great one and I loved the idea of him hacking into our reader's brains and the change of how the story is told. Ethan is a computer geek who was hired to find out who hacked Wyntech, the company Charlie runs. When they first met she wasn't keen of him at all and it didn't quite get better when she saw the video but he challenged her to a bet and that's where their story begins. The difficulties they're facing after Ethan returns from hospital are growing into something bigger but I don't want to spoil anything. Let's just say I had suggested someone else to be the psycho guy there. Charlie fits right into the Cocker family and now this family grows even more. So way more books to come. Woohoo and enjoy reading.
This romantic tale has an intriguing plot, phenomenal banter, picturesque and vivid scene descriptions, a bit of action, emotional moments, sensuous hot-blazing romance and of course a heavenly happy ending.
Ethan, a billionaire has an Einstein brain, is gorgeous with a superior attitude. He is hired to track down a hacker for Wyntech. (Charlotte) Charlie, CEO of Wyntech is an intelligent blue-eyed sassy fiery red-headed beauty. When the two meet, desire swirls through Ethan and he comes up with a plan to maker her his.
The author has given readers an incredibly delightful spicy read that keeps you hooked until the end. Ethan and Charlie’s romance is certainly convincing and is filled with a fiery passion. This story was a most entertaining and gratifying read and {I loved it so much I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy.} Without reservations, I recommend this book.
There is something I just cannot get enough of when it comes to the Cocker family, but oh boy - I really do love a sexy nerd! It is definitely one of my favourite male character types, mmm! Ethan and Charlie's story was full of tension and passion, a heart-wrenching moment for the future of the Cocker family as a whole, a plot twist that I thought I suspected but ended up totally shocking me, and a sweet ending that was perfect. This story was refreshing, exciting and full of the sexy passion that Faleena Hopkins is so talented at writing. There are still so many stories of the Cocker kids/cousins to come, and I have to say I am anxiously waiting for whoever is next! I really do look forward to finding out what is next for this family with each story. I loved this story and voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy.
Ethan, son of Jake Cocker, is smart, witty, sexy, charismatic, and knows what he wants. He's hired to do a job because of his smarts, but along the way meets his match with CEO Charlie Reed. Of course, Ethan thinks Charlie is a male, but is surprised to find Charlie is the beautiful and smart woman running her family's company. Their relationship develops fast and hard, and along the way they fall for each other. There's humor and romance involved. Along the way, there's also some "crazy" characters!! I loved the conversations between the characters and the early and late interaction between Ethan and the reader. Ethan "talking" to the reader was a fun way to suck the reader into the story.
This story also brings in the rest of the Cocker clan and their families. Another great addition to the series!
I want to say that this book was awesome! I think I liked it best of all. Ethan is a rich, wonderful, sexy, geeky, snarky smart aleck, who just happens to be a genius. I loved the way Faleena told his story. It was like we were right there with him as he shared his story. There were so many times that I was laughing so hard I thought I would die. Then there was the one seen with Jett that had me crying and sniffling. That scene was a long time coming. Loved it. Faleena used her fans in picking things out in scenes and Charli’s name. She made contest for us to participate in, allowing us to be included in her writing process. I love how she interacts with her fans. She makes things fun. She never disappoints with the Cocker Books. They are so much fun to read. You start and won’t put the book down till it is done. I give Ethan’s story 5 stars. Wonder who is next?
I never wanted to be part of a family more then I want to join the Crockers. Yet again Faleena Hopkins hit it out of the park and had me falling more in love with a Crocker boy. My favorite has always been Jake, but his son Ethan sure didn't fall far from the tree. Ethan definitely lives up to his Cocky Genius nickname. As a self made billionaire, he never lacked for attention, but the only one he wants is his kind of sorta boss Charlie. Their attractions is instantaneous but Charlie fights it. Well only until Ethan makes a bet with her, that she can't refuse.
Who will win? One click and find out!!
Faleena proves with every new book why she is one of my favorite authors. I absolutely love this series. it is a definite must read!!
I voluntarily received an ARC for an honest review. I loved the way this book included the reader for the ride. I have seen this writing style in other books, but has not worked as seamlessly as Faleena has managed to do in this new book. I loved Ethan!!! He made me melt in so many places in this story. He is so romantic! If you have been following this series of books, you know the Cocker Brothers are irresistible anyways! I loved the tone of the story, searching for love, and where you find it. Faleena has a way of making her characters so real, and her books will draw you right in. This series is amazing. It's really positive and hopeful, and also steamy enough to melt your kindle. Can't wait for the next one!
