This is an action packed romance with a cast of strong characters centering on Gisla and Enzo. Their chemistry is hot but neither are ready for this arranged marriage. There's a lot of conflict and both are fighting their true feelings. I enjoyed watching them work through it all. Set in the Viking era the author does a great job describing the times, characters and scenes perfectly. It's well written, moves quickly and smoothly and I loved reading their story.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

This is more like a 4.5/5 because level of toxic was high in this story. This had “Taming the Shrew” vibes and a lack of reasoning behind a lot of the decision making. The storyline and plot are captivating and the dialogue, especially inner dialogue, is enticing. I had to see what was next because the characters are not predictable. Normally that would bother me but the storyline kept me going. I wish Enzo went through more pain and discomfort from hurting Gisla the way he did. I needed more desperation from him and restraint from Gisla due to the toxic level of conflict between them.

The Shieldmaiden Princess:
Gisla's story is a very dramatic one who is ordered by her brother the king to marry a bishop. She is a lusty heathen and he a Christian with some faults of his own. This makes for a very interesting story not to miss. There are many surprises as we follow the couple coming together and finding happiness.
Each story flows nicely into the next book

Gisela is a fierce, strong and stubborn character. She is well written and likable. The storyline is very entertaining and kept me hooked. I liked Gisela and Enzo together but I'm on the fence about Enzo. This is a very entertaining read.

Juxtaposition

Gisla is a heathen (great) a shield warrior (cool) whibis stick with Enzo and his holier than thou stuck up his A.

I would have preferred she off’d Enzo.
