Infinite #8

Mind Bullet

Rate this book
A telekinetic assassin’s quest to avenge his parents’ murders triggers an all-out war between an eccentric cast of killers, from the New York Times bestselling author of INFINITE and THE DARK.

Jonas kills people…with his mind. He reaches out, focuses for a moment, and feels a snap of pain between his eyes. Then his target falls over dead, a hole in the center of their brains. The cause of death is unknown to all aside from Jonas, and his lone companion: Bubbles, a sarcastic AI with aspirations to be more human, or a serial killer. One of the two. Maybe both. Jonas calls his ability…

MIND BULLET

Sensing Jonas is lonely and depressed, Bubbles arranges for Madee, a Thai delivery woman by day, and a thief by night, to enter his life. For a moment: sparks. But chaos follows as the people Madee last robbed catch up to her. They also happen to be the Shrieking Ninjas. After surviving the assault, Jonas and Madee find themselves on the run, and a 10 million dollar hit called on Jonas.

Killers from all over the globe pursue the pair as they run for their lives and headlong into Jonas’s mysterious past, uncovering the surreal origins and extent of his abilities. They discover a dark and twisted history that threatens to unravel his mind and leave him susceptible to control. Working with Bubbles, Madee, and a growing list of new allies, Jonas battles his way through waves of assassins, some with abilities like his, all to protect the world from a recently discovered, untraceable weapon of mass destruction—himself.

MIND BULLET is a humor-fueled, edge-of-your-seat thriller that takes the reader to the brink of sanity and then drops them into the abyss. Science fiction and mythology collide in this story about the power of family, and the role parents play in our lives—both good and evil.

Assassin's secret weapon: deadly mind bullets and a side of snarky AI humor

Book Information

Mind Bullet, written by Jeremy Robinson, was published on November 21, 2021. The book spans 441 pages and is also available in audiobook format, narrated by R.C. Bray with a running time of 11 hours and 42 minutes. The book is part of Robinson's Infinite Timeline, a universe of overlapping stories that are interconnected. Although Mind Bullet is a stand-alone novel, it is likely that its themes and characters will play a role in future books within the same universe.

Summary

Meet Jonas - an assassin with a deadly psychic ability called "Mind Bullet" that kills his targets instantly. Only his sarcastic AI companion, Bubbles, is privy to the cause of death.

In search of companionship, Bubbles arranges for Jonas to meet Madee, a Thai delivery woman who also happens to be a thief. But their budding relationship is cut short when Madee's past catches up with her in the form of the dangerous Shrieking Ninjas.

Things quickly escalate as a ten-million-dollar bounty is placed on Jonas's head. Together with Madee, he faces assassins from all corners of the globe, unraveling the surreal origins of his abilities and a dark history that threatens his sanity. With the help of Bubbles and other allies, Jonas battles to protect the world from himself and a new weapon of mass destruction.

My Thoughts

One word—Fun!

Mind Bullet is an exhilarating and entertaining page-turner! The non-stop action will keep you on the edge of your seat. The imaginative villains will entertain you. Whether being attacked by ninjas, nuns, cowboys, or a host of other threats, the vivid prose will make you feel like you are part of the action. Plus, the humor sprinkled throughout the book will make you chuckle.

One of the highlights of the book is the relationship between Jonas and Bubbles. Although this type of pairing isn't new to Robinson's writing, he executes it brilliantly in Mind Bullet, making it work as both a buddy comedy and thriller.

If you are looking for solid, reality-based literature---a book about a physic killer with a smart-mouthed AI and a Thai food delivery woman who kicks off the story by squaring off against a group called The Shrieking Ninjas may not be your best pick. But if you want a fun, adrenaline-filled read that will make you laugh…Mind Bullet is a great choice.

I strongly recommend listening to the audible version narrated by the incredibly talented RC Bray. It’s hard to imagine a story better tailored to his voice talent. As each villain is introduced—Bray drops into a video game or movie trailer voice to call out their name. He manages lots of characters and lots of accents--all perfectly for the story. It’s an enjoyable listening experience.

Recommendation

Don't miss out on Mind Bullet - a hilarious and thrilling read. Highly recommended.

I was hooked from page one. Paranormal assassins? I love the idea—and it only gets more interesting from there. Between Robinson's writing and Bray's narration, Mind Bullet becomes an entertainment experience. Anyone new to Robinson books is in for a great introduction to a developing shared world story arc. The crossover ties to other books in the Robinson universe are a crowd-pleasing win for longtime fans and substantially add to the overall adventure.

Avengers Level Event 2 Imminent! This book adds yet another compelling - and, by the end, truly powerful - character to the "Robinsonverse" being crafted by The Modern Day Master Of Science Fiction, Jeremy Robinson. We open up with an action packed scene showing off this character's particular power in an awesome action scene, and we quickly get into an almost Scott Pilgrim vs The World vibe with a wide range of bad guys coming after our hero. We also get the clearest indications yet that the "Avengers Level Event 2" second crossover novel within the Robinsonverse is imminent, as certain characters appear near the 2/3 mark of the tale rather than just in the epilogue as is more normal in a Robinson book. And yes, we *also* get *another* cameo in the "after credits scene" epilogue. Truly an awesome scifi action tale, one with quite a bit of hilarity and a surprising amount of heart... and a surprising amount of F-bombs for an author not generally known for dropping them so casually. Very much recommended.

Update: After I wrote this review, Robinson officially announced his plans for what I call "Avengers Level Event 2"...

Hate to say it, but I found another Jeremy Robinson book that I did not care for. The story just was sort of simplistic, silly, and not very engaging. This is SO not like the rest of the authors books, most of which I read in a day or two because I can't put them down. This one I could only read in spurts and it took well over a month. I hope he gets back to writing novels like The Didymous Contingency, Infinity, Flux, NPC, SecondWorld, Unity and The Distance.

Ok, this book was AWESOME. Great mix of world-building (story crafting), action, suspense, humour, complicated relationships.

This starts off wild and then leans into itself harder the further along in the story you go. It starts out with an assassin reminiscing about his newly deceased parents who were also assassins and taught him the trade. They wanted to retire, but instead, they flew off a cliff in their RV. It was probably a hit, but it's also possible it was a genuine accident -- since a good assassin can make a hit look like an accident he can't be sure.

Anyway, he's got a neat AI called Bubbles, and she's great. She talks back to him, offers up banter, and provides a constant companion for someone whose job makes it difficult to connect with people. He takes jobs all over the world and keeps his kills mostly bad guys. He tries not to kill anyone he doesn't think deserves it, but sometimes shit happens. I'd say it's an almost cathartic experience for him when he's out killing ninjas and telekinetic assassins, but he's not someone who's super creepy and likes inflicting pain and death on people. Quick, clean, get home before anyone notices is his kind of game.

Well, some ninjas found his secret hideout and he doesn't know how or why they tracked him down. Some revelations occur when he interrogates them and it appears as though this may all tie in with his childhood... a childhood he can't really remember. His parents aren't his biological parents but he's always known that. However, everything leading up to living with his parents is a blank. But now there are some random new bits of information he can't ignore. The plot takes some twists and turns so I'll leave the synopsis there. A lot is packed into a small space, I'd say things picked up quick for me around 20% and hurtled on from there.

The MC himself is extremely snarky, he's almost Deadpool like with his morbid dead-pan humor, a tendency to talk to people as he kills them, and his near untouchable prowess at his craft. I honestly was a touch bored with him since he killed everyone so easily it hardly seemed fair at first-- but then he meets people with abilities as strong or stronger than his own, and that's when things actually got interesting for me. His ridiculous talent in so many different areas did kind of get under my skin. The guy isn't just the world's best, most untouchable assassin. He also speaks eleven languages... things like that. It got to be too much to believe, and it really only kept my interest since other people came in and could literally crush him like a tin can. This is a book for people who like incredible powers and characters that use them actively and brutally.

This is written with super fast dialogue, prose that got out of the way of the story, and action spaced out in a way that keeps things moving fast from beginning to end. If you want an action hero battle of telekinetic assassins, this could be for you. It does get a bit extreme at times, though. This is very much so a Avengers-type book with outlandish action scenes and over-the-top situational humor -- but it's pretty entertaining nonetheless. It really starts to lean into itself, and it leans so hard that it breaks the fourth wall.

Another area where my suspension of disbelief wavered was when people all arrived at one place due to convenient timing, last-minute saves, and the way people just accepted the fact he's super-powered when maybe that should be more alarming. An example of the latter is when a nurse just rolls with it when he tells her he's an assassin with special abilities and the nuns down the hallway are not in fact nuns, but nunsassins. (As I said, shit gets really over the top) And she's all like "sure, okay, let's call them Twisted Sisters" lolol, it danced the line of breaking my suspension of disbelief but I was able to hang on. I might come back to this series if I need just a fun pick me up. It has a nice ending that carries a fun tone from beginning to end.

Final Score: 81/100

This starts with an assassin meet-cute. I mean...

Amusing, terrifyingly competent AI. Snarky mystery assassin MC. Terrible thief love-interest--target? At 16% in, a very clever and interesting backstory delivery.

At 59%, I can't guess what's next. Do you know how unusual that is after decades of reading?

Now I'm done, and I've read the author's note about how his books are all linked. Potential other books, that's always cool. The sequel to this one will be called Khaos, and yep. I'll be reading it.

If you are in the mood for humor, weird powers and a mysterious past, killing to survive, and never knowing what's coming next, this is your novel. It's funny and intense and satisfying--an unusual combination.

Jeremy Robinson is truly the master of the “Holy S***” moment. You honestly never know where the story is going to take you, except that it will be a wild ride that keeps you guessing. I love how so many characters from preceding books are coming together, foreshadowing a huge event that is obviously coming soon. Looks like New Hampshire is the place to be.

Can I please read a single Sci-Fi book in 2022 without evil white nazi characters or a reference to Hitler, or how people can't be racist against white people, or the phrase "white supremacy"?

Is there some type of rule for this now from all authors in the current year? Is it mandatory?

The same goes for the term "xenophobia".

It's a pretty fun listen, decent story with a few twists, but then the NAZI POOPER TROOPERS show up and it goes sideways.

I have been reading all the books in the Infinite storyline which are a set of 12 books from various universes created by the author and converging together in an unenviable conclusion.
This is the 8th book in the series.

This skirts the sci-fi and goes into fantasy territory with an assassin who's telekinetic to the extreme and gives words to the oft repeated statement, "If looks could kill" because here it actually does.
Th marvels x-men have shown us what mutants with telekinetic powers an do and Jeremy just plugs in the supposition and takes them a step further while keeping the rest of the story sane and not like a graphic novel.
This has been for me one of the weakest in the Infinite storyline with a novel concept but too simple, bland and without surprises.
It entertains and keeps me focused on the Infinity.

Brilliant fun. With this book, Robinson places himself right alongside Richard Kadrey for outrageous humor and Daniel Suarez for sci-fi action. It's really a masterful romp. The most fun book I've read in a long time.

I've read a lot of Jeremy Robinson's books, but I think I can safely say that this one was easily my favorite. That's a bold statement bc I really like so many of his books. I love his humor, though it has been taken a little too far and can seem forced at times in some books ( I'm looking at you, Space Force). I think the humor was perfectly mixed with the action in Mind Bullet. There were several points that I literally laughed out loud and made the read that much better.

If you've read other JR books, I highly recommend this one!!

Saw this in the new book shelves and needed something to read. My only excuse for picking this piece of trash is that it was by an author I've never heard of and the "Bestseller" splash at the top of the cover was almost covered by the library tag so I missed it. Another example of why I hate bestsellers.

Jonas is an assassin who can kill with his mind. He has an AI as a sidekick yet, somehow, when his supposedly smart, assassin parents got the AI as payment they didn't ensure they had absolute control over it. The book then starts with an idiotically over-the-top action scene, the hallmark of best sellers and cheap action flicks. The author follows the paint-by-numbers routine and has another idiotically impossible action sequence every few chapters.

Having checked it out, I tried to keep going, but finally got too disgusted by the end of chapter 18. This is trash. No wonder he's a best seller. I'll do my best to avoid him, going forward.

Another great read from the mind of Jeremy Robinson. How terrifying it would be to have an assassin out there who could kill you with their mind. That is exactly what Jonas does, and the term he uses to describe this talent is Mind Bullet. Now pair him up with an Artificial Intelligence named Bubbles, and you have some humor to counterbalance that terror. This was an entertaining, fast paced story from start to finish, and I had a hard time putting it down!

That's telekinesis, Kyle.

This is a fast-paced follow-up to The Dark and Tribe, and I am so glad!
The pace is breakneck and the action/dialog make sense.
I loved it.
The characters make the book in this one. They are fleshed out and believable.

I received an advanced copy of this novel for free. Then I bought it so I could hear RC Bray read it to me again.
Outstanding novel.
I highly recommend this.

I enjoyed this book but I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more had I not just read a couple of books that absolutely hit it out of the park. This book has a fun sassy AI and while its a good character, Compared to Skippy in Columbus Day by Craig Alanson its not as good. That's not really fair to this book since it was the book I read immediately before this one. and I have started the sequel so I have that extremely fresh in my mind. Skippy is the very best sassy AI I have ever read.

There were some things in this that I thought were fantastic, a few things I did not care for but overall I am glad that I read it. Its my first Jeremy Robinson book and it sounds like I will see many of these characters in his other books. The thriller aspect of the book was really good, there was a nice mystery about his parents and so overall it was a very enjoyable book.

OK. I feel some balance is needed here. I read all the glowing reviews here so I got a copy. I'm about 2/3 through right now and wow! If I were still a 14 year old boy I would have loved this, but it feels like its written by someone not much older than that. The frequent action and fight scenes are toe-curlingly puerile and clichéd. There is also a complete absence of world-building. There are many characters with super-powers but if there's any explanation it's going to come later I guess but on top of that, we are given no vision of a wider world. Do the greater population know? What other things are changed? The central character is an an anti-hero who only kills deserving people (marvel at the originality) and the female characters have less depth than a single atom layer of graphene trapped under an anvil.

I gave it more than one star because the punctuation is perfectly adequate.

Jeremy go’s we’re even the MCU can’t

I found the idea for this story’s purpose to be a hoot has it references several other novels and builds towards the massive universe Jeremy has been building on his last 10 novels that can’t wait to read when released after reading this.

The story gos into a whole area of bad guys for this novels it uses every type of assassin troupe to get a laugh out of the reader has the author gives them creative name and back stories that can say I’ve seen done before in any outer novels expect in Deadpool comics. The plot takes a top assassin that we learn is abit on the childish side but with secrets hat are even secreted from his self ,and slowly gives us a world of technology super weapons vs psycho psychics with sexy females leads that even James abound would be a gentleman to angry them hahaha. It reaches to final battle with surprises that no one would see coming even long time readers of his and I’ve been a fan sich he released the second Chess Team novel that’s gotta say it all.

The deliciously twisted mind of bestselling science fiction thriller author Jeremy Robinson returns with another epic and over-the-top adventure, Mind Bullet, a fantastic and captivating read.

In the world of high-level international assassination, Jonas is something of a legend. Raised by two honourable killers, Jonas had set out on his own, taking on the most dangerous and difficult of jobs and succeeding in some extremely flashy ways. Despite the ostentatious techniques used in some of his kills, Jonas has managed to stay out of the limelight and out of sight from conventional law enforcement due to fact that none of his targets ever shows any signs of violence. That is because Jonas has a secret: he has telekinesis and can blow a small hole into people’s brains merely by concentrating on them, an unexplained ability he calls Mind Bullet.

However, despite all his success and the accompanying wealth, Jonas is unhappy and depressed. Alone except for his sarcastic and possibly psychotic AI, Bubbles, Jonas is still grieving the loss of his dead parents, convinced that someone killed them and got away with it. As his depression and loneliness results in Jonas taking more and more dangerous jobs, Bubbles decides to intervene for his own good. Playing matchmaker, Bubbles determines that Madee, a local Thai food delivery woman and part-time thief, would be perfect for him. After an awkward first meeting where Madee attempts to rob him, the two loners start to hit it off. However, true love is about to get interrupted by the worst kind of gate crasher, the assassin group known as the Shrieking Ninja.

Angered by one of Madee’s burglaries, the Shrieking Ninjas attempt to break into Jonas’s house and kill them both. Barely escaping from the Shrieking Ninjas' mysterious and powerful master, Jonas goes on the run with Madee, hoping to find a way to get them off their trail for good. However, the disastrous and very public encounter at his house has raised unwelcome attention and Jonas is shocked to find that a $10 million bounty has been placed on his head. A mysterious organisation is determined to capture Jonas by any means necessary, and every elite assassin and hitman in America is willing to collect. Pursued by a legion of outrageous killers, Jonas, Madee and Bubbles find themselves thrust into the midst of a dark and deadly conspiracy that lies in the heart of Jonas’s past and the secrets behind his lethal abilities. Can this unusual group survive the onslaught headed their way, or will they be buried by a legion of lethal killers with their own unique abilities?

Wow, just wow, this novel was the absolute definition of fun. Robinson did another amazing job with Mind Bullet, producing an intense and exciting novel that is wildly addictive and incredibly entertaining. Featuring a brilliant, fast-paced story, Mind Bullet had me hooked from the very second I started listening to it, and I ended up powering through it in a few short days. An outstanding and compelling read, this novel also got a five-star rating from me.

Fantastically Entertaining

If you want the full impact of this book, you have to listen to the audible version with narration by the ever awsome RC Bray. It is almost as if Robinson wrote the book with Bray's voice talents in mind.

Read the book's jacket to get a sense of the plot. This book is a demonstration of Robinson's ability to write great action sequences while introducing humor and levity into the book. Particularly when read by RC Bray, it is obvious that the book does not take itself too seriously. For example, each time a new character is introduced, Bray switches to a movie trailer voice to dramatically announce the character's name.

A lot like his book Tribe, the characters have special abilities and find themselves in totally exaggerated circumstances that defy belief. Some reviewers have made comparisons to The Avengers and in hindsight, I would agree. The humor is mostly derived from the banter between the characters and like The Avengers, the superpowers and technology are clearly unrealistic - but that is what makes it so much fun.

In the author's note, Robinson indicated that he will be pulling characters from three different streams of his novels to come together in a final cross-over book called Singularity. The different streams are shown below.

I highly recommend this book - particularly the audiobook version. There is never a dull moment and it is full of action, supernatural stuff, and is a hoot to read.

This book lacks a clear focus for me. When I read the blurb for this book, I thought I was getting a book about an assassin with the ability to kill people using his mind. What I ended up getting was convoluted and such a mess.

It starts off the way I thought it was going to go but then ends up in a world filled with outer space and Titans. YThe story features an AI that serves as a wise-cracking, female version of Matthew McConaughey and acts as a sex-crazed best friend to the assassin.

Let's talk about the attempted humor in this book. It's God-awful. WWhen humor is forced, it ceases to be funny. Humor should arise from ordinary actions and conversations rather than from making the most outrageous comments at inappropriate moments.

For instance, imagine a scenario where you were reading a book and the scene was set at a funeral. Everyone was sad and crying over the loss of a loved one. You wouldn't have someone yell out of nowhere, "Let's go back to my house, rub ice cream on our tits, and have an orgy in Grandpa's honor." Would you?

No, because it's not funny. This book reminds me so much of those gross-out comedy movies that used to come out in the early 2000s. While I harbored a strong dislike for those films, many of my naive friends found them endearing, often quoting lines from them. And I would watch these movies going, 'What's funny about this crap?'.

This book consists entirely of silly, childish humor. This is easily in my top 5 worst books of 2025.
