An essential part of effective communication involves listening to and learning from one another in a world that's quickly changing. The third edition of Essential Communication excels in its coverage of diversity, social media, and career success. This edition builds upon the engaging design and practical advice that have made the first editions of Essential Communication so popular. It stands out for its commitment to active learning with real-life examples, self-quizzes, reflection opportunities, and communication checklists to help students think critically about the material and put what they learn to good use.
It made me cry at least once and therefore it counts on my yearly reading goal. Anyone who says a textbook doesn’t count can fuck off. I worked hard and suffered through a summer communications class for this shit.
I really loved this book. Everything is easy to read and follow along. A lot of white space and images so you don't feel as though you are drowning in text and information. Things are put in bold and italics that are important. There are a ton of examples in writing and in image form. There are reflection questions that are not pointless, bullet points, and if you look online you can find a learning guide that is free.
On top of all this, not only is this book informative and easy to understand, it is also up to date with examples and topics that are current to our times.
It's time to put this textbook to rest. It's a bit bittersweet because I cannot get over how much I love this textbook. It was a breeze to read and was so interesting to the point where I never even fell asleep!! I had my last lecture for my speech class using this book last week and have my exams this week. Thank you, Essential Communication, for opening my eyes to so much!
An excellent text for an ESL B2+ Business Communication course. The language is accessible and the coverage extensive. It also provides a good background to American cultural communication trends.
