What is it that makes us fall in love?
A beautiful soul? A great sense of humor?
What about a gorgeous body or smile?
For me, it’s all of those things wrapped into one.
Only this time…they aren’t.
On the same day I lose my job, my house, and all hope for the future, I also lose my journal.
And the worst part...the most awful, can't bring myself to say it out loud part is...
HE found it.
HE read it.
And...HE commented.
At the end of his message is an email address and a plea: Contact me. Please.
I know better than to trust strangers with candy, but, after a tequila-fueled night, I create a new email address and do just that.
…and the man I discover is overflowing with kindness and humor and depth.
Meanwhile, I meet Lucas Hutton—a Marine with scars covering his body, heart, and soul.
The chemistry between us is a force of nature.
His intensity leaves me reeling.
I can’t have them both.
I have to choose between them before things go too far.
I just don’t know how I can.

The book begins with Cat’s journal entry for the day. The journal musings are uproariously hilarious and often witty and introspective. On the day she found out that she no longer had a job, she also realized that she had inadvertently left her journal at her favorite coffee shop. When she rushed back to the coffee shop, to her relief the journal was still there tucked into the corner of the seat. However, to her chagrin, someone had read her journal, left a very provocative note and asked her to contact him via email. To add insult to injury, she hurried home to prepare a seductive evening with her fiancé only to find him in flagrante delicto with some other woman in her bed.“Ci sono cose che vediamo e viviamo che non possono essere cancellate. Quel giorno nel deserto era una di loro. Mi aveva dimostrato la brutale fragilità della vita. Crediamo tutti che le persone che amiamo e le cose che abbiamo saranno con noi per il resto dell’eternità. La realtà è che è tutta un’illusione, un castello di carte costruito su sabbie mobili. Tutto può cambiare nello spazio di un secondo.”
“Se c’è una parte di te che ti sussurra qualcosa, devi ascoltarla. La vita è pensata per essere vissuta, non sopravvissuta.”
