A good idea for a plot but it is killed by poor execution
A guy finds a journal written by a woman and left on a chair in a coffee shop and he can't help himself but read some of it.
Amazed by her words which reflect a beautiful character, he writes a note on the journal for her to reach him.
When she comes back to the coffee shop and finds her journal, first she is angry with him for violating her privacy but later they begin to e-mail each other and discover they have so much in common. In a short time, they develop a strong bond.
The day she loses her journal and finds it back, she loses her job and her fiancé cheats on her. That's why, she decides to move to another state to visit her mother where she will try a fresh start. There, she meets a guy for whom she feels a strong physical attraction. Meanwhile, she still continues to correspond with the guy who found her journal.
After a while, she feels she is torn between two guys - one who reaches her soul in his e-mails and another who puts her body on fire.

This plot had a huge potential and if executed well, it could have been such a good love story but poor execution of it kills the book.
The beginning of the book is interesting but it soon gets boring.
Firstly, the writing is dull. It's mostly telling and summarizing.
It is written from dual point of view and both characters have lots of inner thoughts. It is pages and pages of thoughts. And then, pages and pages of the summaries of what they did and talked about but not the actual dialogues. I felt as if I was reading the summary of a book. There are dialogues every now and then but they are never enough.

The climax, the moment when the hero and heroine discover who they have been writing to, is not written well so the moment I was looking forward to all along felt like a plain simple discovery.
And when the love story between the two characters begin, she also discovers that her mother has cancer and is dying.
So, in the second half of the book and at the peek point of their love story, just when confessions of feelings are made etc., the heroine also has to deal with the idea of a dying mother. The mother begs her to think about herself and focus on her own happiness but the sadness of her illness and the approaching death is always there.

Can you believe that shortly after they start dating, there is a death and a funeral?
Why did the writer choose to do this, I have no idea. Who kills her own love story with a funeral?
The book is too short. And with the writing style that focuses on telling rather than showing, I was neither able to enjoy their love story nor feel it. The book actually seems to be 209 pages but it ends on page 190 and then there is a ridiculous epilogue written by the brother of the hero, who prepares us for his story in the next book.
That's why, the timing of her mother's death was awful. It was not at the beginning of the book, which would have faded into the background while they were becoming a couple; no, it was during the time when they started dating!
She learns about her mother's illness on page 135 and the hero and heroine start dating on page 159. As you see, they are a couple for only the last 30 pages and during this time, they have their first kiss, a few scenes of love making (not impressive - again summaries of how they felt) and a funeral.
Whoops, THE END after a proposal!
Maybe 2,5 stars if I force myself but definitely not 3.

The beginning of Cat's story is one most of us romance readers dream about. Girl loses journal. Boy reads journal. Boy falls in love with girl's honest inner thoughts. Boy leaves cute, SEXY note for girl to find. But then Cat meets boy #2. Mr. X is a poetic deep soul, while Lucas is an intense, broody, damaged marine. And I adored every minute of this book and all of the characters that filled its pages.
Beyond Words is a wonderful balance of deep, emotional moments and fun, light-hearted humor. A romance combined with the ups and downs of family and life. I truly can't wait to read about more members of the Hutton family. The family banter and involvement in every book is one of my favorite aspects of book series' like this one. It makes the characters seem more realistic and easier to connect to. Abby Brooks always does an amazing job writing characters that are lovable and relatable and Beyond words is no different. The story flowed seamlessly and I found myself happily wrapped in Brooks's lyrical words from beginning to end.

Cat è una massaggiatrice terapeutica con una vita che non la soddisfa. È fidanzata con un ragazzo perfetto agli occhi di suo padre. La sua mamma è andata via quando lei era ragazzina,per vivere in un camper e girovagare senza impegni. Riversa i suoi pensieri più profondi,le sue paure,le sue incertezze in un diario. In un solo giorno cambia tutto. Perde il lavoro,torna a casa prima del previsto e trova il suo fidanzato con un'altra. Come se non bastasse si accorge di aver lasciato il suo prezioso diario nel bar dove era stata in mattinata. Dopo averlo ritrovato si accorge che qualcuno lo ha letto e gli ha lasciato un messaggio con un indirizzo mail per contattarlo. Lei lo fa.
Una storia che si legge velocemente e che fa riflettere,molto.
"La vita è pazzesca,e il cambiamento è inevitabile. A volte è violento. . A volte è bellissimo. A volte è entrambe le cose. Il meglio che ognuno di noi può fare è sapere di cosa ha bisogno e imparare come essere felice lungo il cammino"...
Mi sono piaciuti i pensieri di Cat...
"Tutti alziamo dei muri ,delle piacevoli maschere che indossiamo per persone diverse. Ne abbiamo una per gli estranei,una per i conoscenti,una per coloro che vogliamo stupire. Come possiamo mai sapere se abbiamo a che fare con una maschera o se abbiamo finalmente incontrato una persona reale?"...
...Ah, cara la mia Cat ,sono anni che mi pongo lo stesso quesito....

Tra le righe è proprio il tipo di lettura che mi serviva per cominciare bene il nuovo anno.
La trama non ha niente di nuovo, eppure Cat e
Lucas riescono a coinvolgerti e ad emozionarti nel modo in cui mettono a nudo le loro anime attraverso parole meravigliose che fanno riflettere.
Ho amato Cat e il suo essere così complessa ma anche positiva e innamorata della vita.
Ho amato Lucas e la sua intensità:
tutto quello che ha vissuto gli ha permesso di vedere ed apprezzare il mondo in modo diverso. È veramente un guerriero gentile 😍
Alcune cose sono state affrettate, mentre con altre l'autrice si è dilungata troppo ma nel complesso il risultato è più che buono.
E sono onestamente curiosa di sapere cosa riserva il futuro per il resto della famiglia Hutton.

This book was just ridiculous...she is writing a guy via email and never met yet she feels she is cheating on him with Lucas who is in the flesh and just friends...um...yeah...I just read that...um then she feels like a failure and unwanted cause she is cheated on with her fiance...she is all kinds of messed up.
I felt like this character was over the top and was not able to connect with either of them...I connected with the other siblings more than these two.
The book was boring at times I actually yawned in the middle of the day...I actually skipped many pages...this is an automatic 2 star deduction for me.

Cute vibe but totally a reach to being realistic. There wasn't enough depth or character building for this reader. This book has been in my backlog on Kindle Unlimited for too long -- cleaning out and decided to make it today's priority. Quick and easy read.

Enjoyed the premise
I read mm romance almost exclusively these days and it takes a captivating opening few pages to make me interested in a mf book. This one grabbed me from the beginning and kept me reading.
Of course you have to suspend disbelief but the characters are complex enough to drive the story. I may even have to circle back and read the next one!

Abby Brooks approda in Italia con i fratelli Hutton che lavorano nel resort di famiglia, l’hotel Hutton detto Hut. La location sono le splendide isole Keys in Florida.
Il più grande, Lucas è il primo protagonista e il modo in cui conosce Cat ha dell’incredibile.
Catherine Wallace sta per vivere la giornata più schifosa di sempre, non solo viene avvertita dall’amico e collega Chris che il centro benessere dove stava lavorando ha chiuso i battenti ma l’algido fidanzato Nash ha anche deciso di sbatterle in faccia il motivo della loro vita sessuale inesistente, proprio al suo ritorno a casa. Confusa, arrabbiata e mezza ubriaca a fine giornata decide di sfogarsi con una mail al vetriolo verso Mister X, colui che si era appropriato del suo diario personale per leggere tutte le sue confessioni inconfessabili, proprio quel maledetto giorno.
‘Dove diamine sono finiti i miei orgasmi?’
Lucas Hutton vive nel limbo di una pseudo seconda vita, è passato un anno da quando la morte l’aveva sfiorato in Afghanistan, ex marine non riesce a incanalare la sua nuova vita ma quando si ritrova a leggere il diario segreto di una sconosciuta, lasciato incustodito nel bar che frequenta di solito, non riesce a smettere di leggere tra quelle righe ipnotiche in cui una donna stupenda si sta mostrando ai suoi occhi. Finire l’ultima pagina con i suoi dubbi sessuali non fa che esortarlo a scriverle una risposta, un po’ saccente ma indiscutibilmente accattivante accompagnata da un indirizzo email creato sul momento nella speranza di trovarla per dare seguito a una sexy conoscenza che lo intrigherebbe oltre misura.
‘Vorrei sapere chi sei. Vorrei che potessimo sederci e parlare, e vorrei poter imparare a conoscere meglio quella tua meravigliosa mente, prima di risolvere il tuo problema fisico. E, credimi, lo risolverei.’
La trama è indubbiamente originale e molto accattivante, mi sono ritrovata a divorare i primi capitoli nell’attesa del loro fatidico incontro. Neanche a dirlo loro si ritroveranno inconsapevolmente nelle paradisiache isole Key dove Lucas sarà chiamato ad aiutare i fratelli e la mamma nella gestione del resort di famiglia. Cat è la massaggiatrice neo assunta e tra passeggiate e gite in barca sarà difficile non cedere alla tentazione di frequentarsi biblicamente lasciando gli sconosciuti battibeccare e innamorarsi via web.
La parte della loro conoscenza virtuale è molto carina, mentre mi ha annoiata a morte la loro conoscenza reale, questa infatti viene frenata troppo dalla fedeltà che i protagonisti sentono di dover mantenere nei confronti dei loro amori virtuali. Cat ha osato un po’ di più mentre Lucas che era partito con tutti i più buoni presupposti si è arenato e solo un evento inaspettato ha fatto aprire gli occhi finalmente a tutti e due.
È molto bello il rapporto tra Cat e sua madre che si era perso nel tempo ma si ritrova forte e a tratti ironico proprio in questo momento importante per Cat, di un nuovo inizio per lei.
I fratelli Hutton mi hanno molto incuriosita, sono 5 e tutti un po’ spezzati da quel padre a capo dell’hotel che tanto li aveva delusi anni prima, Harlow è l’unica femmina e una scrittrice in erba con la passione per la chitarra, sempre pronta a intrufolarsi negli affari privati del fratello più grande, Lucas per l’appunto, sempre così imbronciato ma così meritevole di viversi l’amore con la A maiuscola, finalmente.
Wyatt è il prossimo nella serie e la sua vivacità e spontaneità mi spingono a dare una seconda possibilità a quest’autrice, dalla trama si capisce che sarà un forbidden molto accattivante.
È una buona prova per Abby ma poteva sicuramente fare meglio, le basi c’erano tutte.

La trama è indubbiamente originale e molto accattivante, mi sono ritrovata a divorare i primi capitoli nell’attesa del loro fatidico incontro. Neanche a dirlo si ritroveranno inconsapevolmente nelle paradisiache isole Key dove Lucas sarà chiamato ad aiutare i fratelli e la mamma nella gestione del resort di famiglia. Cat è la massaggiatrice neo assunta e tra passeggiate e gite in barca sarà difficile non cedere alla tentazione di frequentarsi biblicamente lasciando gli sconosciuti a battibeccare e innamorarsi via web.
La parte della loro conoscenza virtuale è molto carina, mentre mi ha annoiata a morte la loro conoscenza reale, che viene frenata troppo dalla fedeltà che i protagonisti sentono di dover mantenere nei confronti dei loro amori virtuali. Cat osa un po’ di più mentre Lucas che è partito con tutti i più buoni presupposti si è arenato e solo un evento inaspettato fa aprire gli occhi finalmente a tutti e due.
Abby Brooks approda in Italia con i fratelli Hutton che lavorano nel resort di famiglia, l’hotel Hutton detto Hut. La location sono le splendide isole Keys in Florida.
Il più grande, Lucas è il primo protagonista e il modo in cui conosce Cat ha dell’incredibile.
Catherine Wallace sta per vivere la giornata più schifosa di sempre, non solo viene avvertita dall’amico e collega Chris che il centro benessere dove sta lavorando ha chiuso i battenti ma l’algido fidanzato Nash ha anche deciso di sbatterle in faccia il motivo della loro vita sessuale inesistente. Confusa, arrabbiata e mezza ubriaca, a fine giornata decide di sfogarsi con una mail al vetriolo verso Mister X, colui che si era appropriato del suo diario personale per leggere tutte le sue confessioni inconfessabili, proprio quel maledetto giorno.

A solidly great read! I’ve been pretty fortunate this year to come across some great reads by some “new to me” authors and Abby Brooks counts as one of them. I loved Lucas and Cat’s story—though at times I wanted to scream “You’re not in love with two people, dammit!!”—and I am anxious to read more about the rest of the Hutton clan.

Lucas, the H, sounded attractive. The note he left in her journal was extremely blunt and bold considering he had no clue what she looked like. His emails were on the nice and sweet side, but in real life his interactions were stand offish or gruff normally. As they got to know one another they weren’t as intense.
Cat seemed borderline ding batty and head in the clouds. Her journal entries were sort of along the lines of wanting to be philosophical but came out more blah blah blah.
Their emails to one another were pretty bland, and I’m not seeing how they fell in love with one another over emails because nothing got that deep or detailed. They were in general pretty bland and I found myself quickly scanning over them because after the first one or two I was bored with them and wanted their interactions to just be in person since the emails were a real snooze.
The story after the initial journal incident became unbelievable to a point beyond buyable even for romance fiction novels. There’s like one in a trillionth chance of them both being in Galveston and then both going to the Keys and crossing paths so blatantly.
He also handled his real life diss of Cat very poorly.
No intimacy until like the 75% mark also. And those scenes were rather bland. Considering he acted like in her journal she’d have her toes curling etc. then they were PG descriptions in the scenes. Oh...okay.
Doubt I’ll go after the next book in the series. If I just randomly come across it, I might try it. But I won’t be searching for it now.

Questo libro è rimasto lì, in attesa di essere letto, per molti mesi ormai. Quando si dicono le coincidenze, che fosse ora il momento giusto per me?
Ho deciso di aspettare un paio di giorni prima di buttare giù i miei pensieri, perché semplicemente ero confusa. Non capivo se le emozioni che avevo provato derivassero dal fatto che ho letto un bel romanzo o se invece, come la razionalità mi suggerisce, è riuscito a far vibrare delle corde solo perché in questo periodo sono un po’ come un nervo scoperto e di lacrima facile.
Il libro si apre con una giovane e fragile ragazza che non ha ancora capito quale strada deve percorrere, ingabbiata in un rapporto assurdo con Nash; il classico uomo tutto d’un pezzo che appare e che, stringi stringi, vale meno dell’escremento di un moscerino (con tutto il rispetto per i moscerini). Un cliché? Ebbene sì, e quale sarà il prossimo scontatissimo cliché? Avete visto Sliding Doors nella scena in cui lei rientra a casa e… ecco! Fedifrago, insulso uomo. È uno spoiler? Piccolo, però, dai. Questa parte mi ha fatto arrovellare le budella e mi ha scatenato un attacco di bile.
Cat, la nostra protagonista, aveva già avuto una pessima giornata dopo aver perso il lavoro come massaggiatrice, infatti, dimentica il suo diario segreto in un bar. Adesso, per quanto trovi romantico il tutto, mi chiedo: in quante girano con il proprio scrigno dei segreti in borsa tutti i giorni? Niente domande difficili, va bene. Qualcuno troverà il diario e le lascerà un indirizzo email, con il quale contattare lo sconosciuto, e un messaggio che avrei voluto ricevere io! Qui è partito un moto d’invidia. Tra i due comincia una conoscenza per email, si scrivono parole forti, cercano di conoscere l’altro come se due anime gemelle si fossero rincontrate nell’etere. Molto romantico; troppo? Forse. Cat (alias Cavalletta) e Lucas (alias Skywalker) non sanno nulla concretamente l’uno dell’altro, ma qualcosa li lega.
Arriviamo a Lucas: ex marine scampato alla morte e decisamente bionico, come scherzosamente lo definiscono i fratelli Hutton, è un uomo straordinario, dentro e fuori. Mi sono immaginata le sue espressioni, i suoi gesti. I due giovani “innamorati dell’amore” s’incontreranno, più o meno diciamo, nell’hotel degli Hutton. Un famiglia assolutamente ironica, simpatica e molto stimolante.
La trama mi è piaciuta molto, accattivante e afrodisiaca pensando all’ambientazione delle isole Key; i temi trattati (dal tradimento, all’alcolismo, alla morte, al semplice vedere la vita in modo leggero e col sorriso sulle labbra) mi hanno riempito il cuore. Ecco che arriva il MA. La scrittura era lenta, talvolta poco fluida, altre volte precipitosa, al punto che ho dovuto viaggiare di fantasia per trovare ciò che cercavo. Il pov alternato aiuta a conoscere i protagonisti e te li fa amare, tuttavia ritengo che andassero analizzati più in profondità, con meno descrizioni dei sentimenti e più gesti che ce li facessero vivere. Avrei apprezzato ancor di più il romanzo con maggiori dialoghi, avrei voluto leggerci rabbia, delusione, felicità, passione in quegli scambi tra loro. Molto meglio quelli tra i fratelli che sprigionavano ilarità e ironia.
Un libro semplice e di buoni sentimenti, che mi ha regalato emozioni e mi ha intrigata, ma voglio una spinta di forza in più, desidero i fuochi d’artificio. Confusa? Forse! Lo rileggerei tornando indietro? Sì, certo, ma senza le aspettative iniziali.

I enjoy books with an interesting premise and that describes Beyond Words by Abby Brooks perfectly. Two souls lost for two different reasons form an online friendship unlike no other which is complicated by their “in the flesh” relationship.
Cat’s life is blown apart when she loses her job, she misplaces her very personal journal only to find it again along with a message written by Mr. X, and finds her fiancé in their bed with someone else. She is mad at her fiancé but she is furious that the mysterious Mr. X has read her most private thoughts, wishes, hopes, and dreams.
After being brought back to life last year following an explosion that ended his military career, Lucas is still at odds and trying to figure out his life and then he gets a call from his brother. His father is dead, the father that was a good dad until he began drinking and became abusive and drove everyone away. Heading home to the Florida Keys is the right thing to do, his family needs him but he can’t help but think about the woman whose journal he found.
I found this book interesting because the reader knows that Cat and Lucas are Katydid and Mr.X/Skywalker throughout the book, but Cat and Lucas don’t know. It was entertaining watching them fall for each other both online and in person and both being so conflicted about it. I appreciated the way we learned so much about each of these character’s backgrounds and what made them into the people they are today (although I was curious about Lucas’ relationship with his dad which was basically glossed over). Their relationship isn’t easy because while they both feel the intense connection in person, they are both still very much “feeling” the connection to the person online they’ve never met.
As this was the first book in a series, we meet all of Lucas’ family as well as Cat’s parents who while very different people and long divorced have raised a daughter who has both their values. At times this book was a bit heavy, but there were also some really sweet and wonderful moments as well. This is a slow burn romance and when they do hit the physical it isn’t graphic, but it is pretty perfect.
I loved Beyond Words by Abby Brooks and am looking forward to binge reading the rest of the series.

Beyond Words is a very unique read! I loved the premise and the execution! It was my first book by Abby Brooks. I'm so thankful someone recommended it to me. Lately, I have been in such a book slump.
If you're looking for something with low angst, a unique storyline you can easily get swept up in, and characters you'll be rooting for, this book is for you.
Honestly, it would have easily been a 5-star for me if there had been a bit more steam. As it is, this is an extreme slow burn. There are no sexy times til after 70% of the book. However, it was a great storyline that kept me turning the pages.

Another of my Prime Reading choices.
I love the idea of this story. Getting to know and fall in love with someone based purely on their personality and not their looks is a trope that I can fully get behind. Although it's very violating to have someone read your journal, I think I would have been less angry than Cat was simply based on the note left behind.
I found it interesting the way both Cat and Lucas interpreted their relationships and how they related to each other, both in person and in the written word.
I think people who enjoy this kind of romance trope and pretty much any lover of contemporary romance will enjoy this book.

Inizia così la storia di Catherine Wallace, con i pensieri più intimi e profondi conservati nelle pagine del suo vecchio amico fedele, diario. Può sembrare una storia divertente, ma le apparenze ingannano. Oltre la sua vita sentimentale monotona ma relativamente stabile, non ha ancora una carriera, come il suo fidanzato Nash. Quella Cat l'ha conquistato attraverso le righe d'inchiostro, scatenando il senso di protezione, di ammirazione e il desiderio di conoscerla ancora meglio e di dimostrarle il suo vero valore attraverso le sue attenzioni. Ma è possibile innamorarsi di una persona senza volto?

Sarà un'illusione o la nascita di un amore?
Una volta arrivata da sua madre a Keys, in Florida, Cat trova lavoro come massaggiatrice preso l'hotel della famiglia Hutton, dotato di un centro benessere all'avanguardia. Sarà accolta a braccia aperte da tutti, tranne che Lucas - un ex Marine difficile da decifrare. La sua presenza la inquieta, ma l'attira come una calamita allo stesso tempo. Lui però sembra chiuso nel suo mondo, e non sembra esserci posto per Cat oltre i confini. Quante debolezze si possono nascondere dietro un uomo che sembra una roccia, un combattente, un sopravvissuto? Qualcosa sembra legarli, ma sarà abbastanza per ricominciare daccapo, insieme? Riuscirà Cat ad essere sincera come lo è stata con Signor X? E Lucas, riuscirà finalmente a chiudere col passato e tornare a sentirsi vivo?

Una storia che mi ha tenuta incollata alle pagine, sempre più curiosa di scoprire meglio i suoi personaggi, il loro vissuto. Mi hanno regalato risate, ma anche momenti commoventi. Non ci regaleranno facilmente un lieto fine, anzi. Vi faranno stare sulle spine, vi faranno arrabbiare e volergli scuotere per farli ascoltare il loro cuore senza paura. Ma tutto ciò ne varrà la pena.
Giorno 431... e la ricerca continua.

Chi non ha avuto un diario in cui trascrivere le emozioni che, quotidianamente, hanno bussato alla porta del cuore?
Penso in tanti, ma certamente saremo tutti orripilati accorgendoci di aver perso un tale tesoro, proprio com’è successo alla nostra protagonista.
Quindi capite bene come lei si sia sentita, come sia stata stravolta la sua esistenza scoprendo che qualcuno, non solo ha trovato il diario, non solo ha avuto l’ardire di leggerlo, ma ha avuto anche il coraggio di contattarla?
Ti prego, oh, ti prego, pensai, fa’ che nessuno lo trovi. E, se lo trovassero, per favore, fa’ che non lo leggano. E se dovessero leggerlo, per favore, fa’ che non siano ancora lì quando arrivo!
Bene, mi sono immedesimata in Cat e come lei sono andata nel panico più totale, mentre ritorna sul luogo del delitto, permettetemi una metafora divertente e..., accade ciò per cui aveva tanto pregato prima: scopre che qualcuno ha letto le sue pagine.
Ora vi chiederete cosa potrà mai essere successo, ma io non posso e non voglio dire di più, vi suggerisco solo una cosa: volete scoprire chi è il misterioso lettore, volete confrontarlo con Lucas, volete sapere cosa sarà di Nash, volete capire fino in fondo cosa ne sarà di Cat e di tutto ciò che per lei conta? Ebbene per avere le risposte a tutte queste domande non dovete fare altro che leggere questa piacevole storia, che saprà farvi ridere, farvi riflettere e farvi innamorare tra le righe.

The book begins with Cat’s journal entry for the day. The journal musings are uproariously hilarious and often witty and introspective. On the day she found out that she no longer had a job, she also realized that she had inadvertently left her journal at her favorite coffee shop. When she rushed back to the coffee shop, to her relief the journal was still there tucked into the corner of the seat. However, to her chagrin, someone had read her journal, left a very provocative note and asked her to contact him via email. To add insult to injury, she hurried home to prepare a seductive evening with her fiancé only to find him in flagrante delicto with some other woman in her bed.The man who found Cat’s journal and called himself “Mr. X”was not only bold in his note to her but he was unapologetic for having read the journal because what he read was beautiful to him, and he was profoundly moved by the woman’s words.
Thus, the book advances using the series of email exchanges between “journal girl” and “Mr. X”. Their anonymity allows them to get to know each other on a deeper level as they go about their everyday lives. Subsequently, Cat and Mr. X find that they have unexpectedly developed a very real and significant emotional bond with each other, although they hadn’t met.
This is essentially a condensed version of the story’s beginning. However, as the story progresses there is so much more beyond emails and journal entries. In my opinion, the story was written with a certain grace and charm as the main characters search for the meaning of their life experiences and how they fit in the whole scheme of things. Also, while the reader is privy to events and circumstances as they unfold, the main characters characters are not. This enriches the story and makes the eventual outcome that much more satisfying. For those inquiring minds, this was a slow burner; however, when the sexual encounters finally happen, they are explosive although I wouldn’t describe them as explicit.
On the whole, I would love to reread this book. It just seems to capture so much of what is good in people. It takes hold of the imagination and sends it soaring. The story may be more fanciful than steeped in realism, but this is fictional after all. Besides, it just felt good.

Crediamo tutti che le persone che amiamo e le cose che abbiamo saranno con noi per il resto dell’eternità. La realtà è che è tutta un’illusione, un castello di carte costruito su sabbie mobili. Tutto può cambiare nello spazio di un secondo.”
Una storia d’amore è solo una storia d’amore, no? Due persone si conoscono, non importano il luogo e le circostanze, l’intesa tra loro nasce e poi cresce come un dolce nel forno. Et voilà.
Poi invece ci sono le storie raccontate con originalità e fantasia, che parlano di destini incrociati e personaggi diversi dai soliti. Sono le persone che fanno poco rumore, dalle esistenze complicate ma delle quali non parlano perché non pensano di avere molto da dire o quantomeno non credono di risultare abbastanza “interessanti” da essere ascoltati. Sono l’esercito di quelli che indossano una maschera per travestirsi da persone comuni e avere vite e interazioni “normali”. Sono tutti coloro che censurano loro stessi per uniformarsi al pensiero comune, che sorridono a comando per essere accettati e benvoluti. Sono quelli che parlano poco e mai di cosa provano davvero, che tolgono la maschera solo quando entrano nella propria casa, in solitudine, e che talvolta si raccontano in chat con degli sconosciuti, dove non sentono bisogno di travestirsi o mimetizzarsi.
È ciò che fanno Cavalletta e Skywalker in questo libro bellissimo, in questa storia raccontata come una poesia, delicata e incredibile, ma dal sapore vero. E con una scrittura che mi ha incantata.
“Se c’è una parte di te che ti sussurra qualcosa, devi ascoltarla. La vita è pensata per essere vissuta, non sopravvissuta.”
Intorno a loro si muovono decine di altri personaggi che li fanno emergere dall’anonimato e brillare: fratelli, sorelle, amici, genitori. E sopra tutti loro il destino muove i fili e li conduce in porto sicuro.

Insgesamt hat mit Story gut gefallen und ich wurde auch gut unterhalten.
Ich mochte die Charaktere gerne, sie waren alle sympathisch. Auf Lucas Geschwister bin ich sehr neugierig geworden. Ich mag Geschichten, die eine ganze Familie einschließen, immer sehr gerne.
Den Aufbau der Story fand ich sehr gut. Vor allem war es mal wieder etwas anderes. Allerdings waren mir dieser spezielle Aufbau auch ein wenig zu viel und zu ausschweifend. Die persönliche Note von Angesicht zu Angesicht hat mir da doch gefehlt. Trotz der Vergangenheit beider und auch der nicht reibungslos laufenden Gegenwart ist es eine leichte und positive Geschichte. Die beiden strahlen trotz allem irgendwie eine Leichtigkeit auf. Das liegt wahrscheinlich daran, dass sie immer beide Seiten der Medaille vor Augen sehen.
Für mich war dies das erste Buch der Autorin, aber wie schon angedeutet auf jeden nicht das letzte. Der Schreibstil ist angenehm, verständlich und leicht zu lesen. Es hat Spaß gemacht, ihren Weg zu begleiten.

This book was utterly ridiculous. I can't believe this was published. A women leaves her journal with her most private thoughts starting off with where has my orgasm gone? in a coffee shop! Seriously who does that! And when she returns hours later someone left it on the bench with a note so they start emailing. This book was not worth my time.

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls
Prima di imbattermi nella lettura di questo romanzo ho atteso un po' dall'uscita, inizialmente ero entusiasta di conoscere questa scrittrice e gli Huttun, ma in cuor mio sentivo che non era il loro momento, poi è giunto e sono rimasta affascinata dal potere delle parole impresse nero su bianco dalla Brooks, tra le righe.
In questo romanzo ho trovato parti di me, parti che io stessa ho sempre avuto paura solo a pensarle. Quelle verità che ti spiazzano e ti fanno capire che in questo mondo in confronto alla luna e alle stelle sei solo una particella e che la vita è una sola e dev'essere vissuta al meglio, con serenità, circondati da persone che ci amano e che a nostra volta amiamo. Dall'affetto dei nostri genitori, che ci plasmano, e dal sorriso dei nostri fratelli o sorelle. Leggendo TRA LE RIGHE mi sono commossa, non accade spesso, ma ultimamente sembra più sovente rispetto al passato. Probabilmente mi sto rammollendo direbbero alcuni, ma ci sono stati imprevisti che hanno crepato i muri che mi sono costruita come una fortezza per non dar modo a qualcuno di entrarci.
Erano anni che non leggevo un romanzo, una storia, con questo timbro profondo. Con dei personaggi perfetti nella loro imperfezione e quasi surreali, pura e semplice poesia. Quella melodia fatta di parole che ti penetra nelle ossa fino a sfiorare la tua anima.
Volevo essere la luce che scacciava i suoi demoni.
Quella donna era stata creata per me.
Il romanzo è diviso in pov alterni e vede come protagonisti Cat e Lucas o Cavalletta e Skywlaker, a voi la scelta... Entrambi sono molto giovani, Cat dopo aver perso tutto andrà a trovare la madre in Florida e si troverà un impero. Luc dopo la morte del padre e una guerra in Afghanistan, torna a casa per aiutare la famiglia a far quadrare i conti del resort. I due si conoscono per via del suo diario segreto che Cat ha dimenticato all'interno di una caffetteria, Lucas lo ha trovato e ha commentato... Lui ha invaso la sua privacy, ma anche capito ogni cosa... I giorni passano, le email che si scrivono e inviano sono sempre di più, nessuno è consapevole di chi sia l'altro, i due fisicamente si conosceranno dal momento che Cat andrà a lavorare come massaggiatrice nel resort degli Huttun alle Keys. Ma nulla di ciò che condividono lascerà intendere che uno conosce i segreti più profondi e l'anima dell'altra.
Chiudi gli occhi. Basta pensare. Senti.
Amalo, e attraverso il suo amore, impara ad amare te stessa.

Mentirei se vi dicessi che non le ho trovate giuste perché lo erano. Tutto è stato un evolversi, tutto ha avuto una continuità. Conoscersi, innamorarsi. Fidarsi e non tradire, mantenere un rapporto onesto e amichevole. Rinascere, scacciare i demoni e ciò che ci tormenta e credere che ci sia una persona destinata a essere la nostra persona da qualche parte là fuori.
