4 stars to Barbara Venkataraman's Peril in the Park, her third book in the "Jamie Quinn Mystery" series. I chose to read the electronic version to see if I could switch mediums, but it is also offered as an audio book and in paperback. I imagine the audio book with Duke's personality would be a really fun way to spend a few hours before bed or on your lunch break!

Story
Jamie takes on her third mystery alongside friends Grace and Duke where she helps her boyfriend Kip determine who is the "Park Vandal" and who is stalking both of them over Kip's decisions at his new job as the Director of Parks & Recreation in Broward County, Florida. In his new job, Kip's made some quick decisions to change up the structure of the department and hired/fired several employees. When the commissioner, his boss and some wealthy entrepreneurs apply pressure for Kip to be the deciding vote in favor of building a new tower on wetlands, Kip's caught between doing the right thing and keeping his job. After Jamie receives threatening emails about Kip, she enlists her friends help to track down who is behind all the mayhem. Is it the commissioner who wants the money the business man is willing to spend? Is the business man crooked? Is it one of the fired employees? Is it the employee who was passed over for the director position? Many good suspects in this one... plus the Renaissance Fair is just a fun treat to watch unfold. And as a good side-story, Jamie finally meets her father through Skype and attempts to find a way to get him citizenship in the US so he can come back from Nicaragua.

Strengths
This book increases the page count and ties the stories more tightly together. Jamie is quickly becoming a fun heroine you want to root for, and her friends and colleagues make you laugh. The series is developing quite well and brings levity and humor in all the right places. There's a good balance in showing "a day in the life of Jamie Quinn" without overdoing all the mundane items people deal with besides the fun drama we all want to read about. Before you know it, the story has blossomed and you are invested in the characters. Duke's antics are always a treat, but he takes it to a new level when he revisits the past in this one.

Suggestions
I would love to see the book extend about 25% longer, but each book has added about 20 pages so it's definitely progressing in the right direction. The stories have a good plot, but could use a little more mystery, red herrings and suspense to fully complete the hook to drag in a new reader base. If the intended audience is for people who only want a short 1 to 2 hour read, then it's exactly on target, but with some additional story and plot, advancing to the 3 to 4 hour read, I think it would pick up a much larger fan base.

Final Thoughts
I'm very supportive of this series because you see the growth over the first three books. I will definitely purchase the fourth one (under $4 bargain!) as it's a great read.

Kip Simons, director of Broward County parks and Jamie Quinn’s boyfriend was feeling the pressure of his new job. Kip and Jamie had recently reconnected after knowing each other when they were much younger – they rekindled their relationship and so Kip’s problems meant Jamie wanted to help him sort them out. There was a ‘park vandal’ who was determined to make Kip’s life difficult – the latest attempt was a rather large message which had been mown into the grass of one of the parks. But the threatening emails and stalking of both Kip and Jamie were the biggest concern. What was the reasoning behind it all?

With Kip flat out at work trying to find solutions to the various problems they were facing, Jamie contacted her friend, PI Duke Broussard for help. Duke had helped Jamie in the past and was keen to become involved in this case. While Jamie continued on with her own work – she was a lawyer – Duke did the investigating. And as the mystery deepened, the danger to Kip suddenly intensified. Jamie was desperate for Duke to find the answers; she didn’t want to lose Kip again…

Peril in the Park is the third in the Jamie Quinn series and was just as much fun as the first two. Jamie is a sassy down to earth character, while Duke has all the ‘smarts’ needed for a PI. A thoroughly enjoyable cosy mystery series, I’m looking forward to book four which is (hopefully) coming soon. Highly recommended.

Jamie's boyfriend finds himself at the centre of plots and politics in the Park Service. Someone is vandalising the parks he is responsible for and sabotaging his career. Then someone is murdered at a Renaissance Fair and it becomes even more important to track down the culprit and put him away.

The Jamie Quinn series (at least the first three books) are all novellas. Very short hit the road running mysteries. That can cause problems with character and story development but book three, Peril in the Park benefits from the character development in the first two novellas and is stronger for it. I enjoyed, Death by Didgeridoo and The Case of the Killer Divorce but they somehow felt rushed. This book feels much more well rounded and is probably my favorite of the three.

Many thanks to the author who provided me with a review copy of this and the first two novellas

The third book in the Jamie Quinn mystery series finds her boyfriend Kip becoming depressed over all the employee problems and political machinations he's encountering as Broward County Parks Director, not the least of which is a park vandal and a potentially murderous stalker who is involving Jamie! They ask Jamie's good friend and somewhat shady private investigator, Duke, to see if he can figure out who the park vandal might be. Is it the same person who is sending the threatening emails under the name ICU?

Meanwhile Jamie is hoping her long-lost father will be approved for a visa to come to the States from Nicaragua. When he is declined, Jamie asks her friend Grace to use her government contacts to learn the reason why. The answer is pretty startling!

The first 3 books in the cozy mystery series are all quick, one-day reads, perfect for summer or beach reading. The characters are fun and well-described--Jamie especially is someone you quickly come to care about. Can't wait to see what happens next...

Many thanks to the author Barbara Venkataraman for providing me with ebooks copies of the set of these first 3 mysteries as a gift from Amazon. I thoroughly enjoyed these books and would enjoy reading more. (HINT, HINT) :)

A Renaissance Fair! How much fun would that be? I wanna go! Well, maybe not to the same one Jamie went to.
Great book! More Mayhem less Murder. Yay! Especially loved finding out who the 'park vandal' is. Genius choice.

Reread July 2018 — excellent book! Poor Kip has a lot to learn about women. But our girl, Jamie will keep him straight. Also, I love the relationship between Jamie, her dad and step mom. So sweet! I’m also loving the audio! 🎧

Jamie Quinn sure gets herself into trouble easily for a family lawyer working mostly in divorce cases! Excitement seems to come her way as she tries to enjoy her life with a new boyfriend and long lost father now in the picture. In this quick paced story Kip, her boyfriend, is head of the Parks division in her town, but it seems someone is Not happy about that!
There is park vandalism, scary emails sent to Jamie and Kip is under attack from everyone at his workplace! The great PI Duke gets involved to assist Jamie, and a rollicking adventure begins!!
Another fun read as we ride along with Jamie through the defeats and wins in this fantastic tale!!

I finished this book a few moments ago and it, once again, had everything I like in a cozy mystery. I have to admit that this story felt a bit more complicated than the previous ones. I always try to find the culprit and this made it more difficult to find suspect(s). My brain had to work overtime. :)
Apart from this, the main ingredients remain : fun, only a small handful of bad 'guys' and a writing style that is very enjoyable.
The private life of our main character is developed even more and with each book, I like Jamie even more.
Thanks, Barbara! Part 4 will be read shortly as well.

I received the e-book as a gift from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Jamie Quinn is a family lawyer in her mid thirties living and practicing in Florida. She's had a pretty exciting year starting with helping her cousin get out of a sticky situation which also helped her move past her mother's untimely passing and get back into work life. On top of that, she finds out a lot about the dad she never knew growing up and rekindles a romance with an old high school boyfriend.

This is definitely my favorite so far. Even though I really enjoyed the first two books in the Jamie Quinn series, I feel like they were more focused on setting up Jamie and the people around her. Now, 6 months after the events of the previous book, Jamie finds herself at the center of another mystery. This one is a little different, but incredibly personal since it involves her boyfriend Kip. Ah, Kip. I picture him being as cute as his name sounds. Everyone's favorite hunky parks director and family lawyer have become pretty inseparable since running into each other six months ago. I only wish this book had been set a little further back so we could have seen more of Kip and Jamie's romance develop.

When an unknown person starts making Kip's job as park director difficult, Jamie jumps in to help figure out who's behind it all. I love a girl who sticks up for her man. Of course, it wouldn't be a Jamie Quinn mystery without a murder to solve. Someone turns up dead at the Renaissance Festival and Jamie brings in our favorite PI Duke to help her get to the bottom of it. If that wasn't bad enough, Kip then disappears leaving Jamie and Duke scrambling before it's too late.

This was probably the most fast paced and hectic of the first three books. I read it in one sitting because I just couldn't stop until Kip was found safe. I also had to know more about Jamie's dad and their new relationship. The book had the same conversational feel and the more I read the more I feel like Jamie is a real friend somewhere out there, and I'm just reading an email where she's catching me up on what's been going on.

These are all pretty short reads and perfect for a quarantine binge. I will definitely be continuing the series here soon!

Jamie Quinn, our protagonist is an attorney specializing in family law and in the beginning of the series, she’s currently getting over the death of her mother. But she’s about to be entangled into cases she’s not even an expert of. But as a reluctant lawyer, Jamie shows such conviction and skill rooting from the concern and care she has for the people around her.

Have I mentioned that Jamie got a boyfriend. No? Okay, she did and I won’t tell you which book she met him. But in Peril in the Park, Jamie’s boyfriend, Kip, takes center stage. Being the Head of the Broward County Parks shouldn’t be threatening but Kip has been the target of threats since taking over his position. Jamie, again, must solve a mystery in order to save her boyfriend.

The series just becomes political and I’m here for it. The case, for me, is more complex than the ones in the previous books, and the life at stake is too close to Jamie. I think the series is getting more and more personal making each story more and more engaging. As a reader, I love getting invested emotionally to the characters I’m reading and so I love seeing Jamie react more emotionally than before. With Kip being in danger, Jamie is more determined than ever and her investigative skill seems improved as well. There’s this thing about her father too. Like I said, things in the series are getting more personal in each book and I get to know Jamie more.

Four stars to the third installment of the Jamie Quinn Mystery series, Peril in the Park. Jamie’s boyfriend Kip is the new Director of Broward County Parks. He is wrestling with the “machiavellian politics of upper management,” park vandalism, disgruntled employees, and a dicey land development deal. But that is not all on his plate. There are also ominous, anonymous emails and a mysterious murder in the park rounding out this suspenseful novella. This is a fun read.

Our esteemed American authoress, Barbara Venkataraman will appreciate a fun phenomenon: I can’t read her title, “Peril In The Park”, without Chicago’s 1972 hit leaping to mind! It is what you want to hear on a leisurely summer day, from the most vital year to me. Canadian parks preserve dense, green natural realms. I am agog, thinking of the lush terrains a tropical place like Florida must abound in: from palm trees and sand, to marshes and the bayou. Kip Simons, sweetheart of Jamie Quinn, manages all Florida parks.

Death, a disappearance, and bizarre behaviour coax Jamie into helping him sift out a culprit. An inside job requires outsiders’ eyes: Jamie and Duke Broussard, her investigator friend. The majestic setting of a renaissance fair, with the pretty elephant gracing the bookcover, evokes pleasant animal, musical, cultural environment for me; a colourful idea all around.

Here, our veteran authoress’ thick skin might bear with me for a critical portion of feedback. I immediately respected Jamie in the first novel for losing her Mom, which had my empathy then and in the second novel. I am in the same boat as of the year 2020. I am glad Jamie is no longer melancholy but find I cannot abide her when she is giddy. I have never heard of a thirty year-old so juvenile as to steal somebody’s dessert plate, or bite a boyfriend. What is intended as friskiness is unbearably annoying to me.

We could do without Jamie arguing with Duke’s ex-wife too. However, I like the conclusion that couples can reconcile and friends can apologize for hasty judgement. What maintained three stars for me were unique personal twists, as well as creative ones pertaining to the park mystery’s resolution. I enjoy witnessing Jamie acquaint her Dad and his loyal new wife.

Thoroughly enjoyable, as were the first two books in the series. I like Jamie and her mad PI Broussard, and her boyfriend is well drawn. As always, the author has chosen a straightforward investigative style, complete with wit and charm. The characters are energetic and well presented, the pacing is just right. The author has skilfully shown Jamie's life as a divorce attorney without allowing it to side-track the investigation of Kip's problems in the park.

A side story from the previous novel is about Jamie's dad, whom she didn't know existed. This part of the plot was touching and beautifully done.

A surprising twist at the end was excellent. I didn't see it coming, a novelty which I greatly appreciated. The cover is very good indeed and would entice me to pick it up as a paperback in a shopping mall.

Peril in the Park by Barbara Venkataraman is the 3rd book in the Jamie Quinn Mystery series. Jamie's boyfriend Kip Simons is having problems with a park vandal and the two of them are threatened by a stalker who is involved in the murder of a PI during the Renaissance Festival. I enjoyed this quick read and I love the characters. Jamie has a great group of supportive friends.

Thanks to the author. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I really, really thank the author for sending me these first three books of her series because I enjoyed the reading immensely! If you are in need of a book to take with you to the beach, or anywhere you want while you are sunbathing or relaxing, well search no more!

When I started the first book I was thinking to give it a try and then read the next two after some weeks (I was planning to read some other books at the time) but once started I couldn’t put this down! I received the digital edition of the box-set with all three of them and that was the end of me, because it was impossible to put down! Jamie is an uncommon MC, she’s a divorce lawyer but she’s also a sweet girl, with a big heart, a sense of what is right and what is wrong and the ability to find the most interesting people.
This was the first book I’ve read with an MC who is a divorce lawyer, and it pleased me to no end. I am not a fanatic of this profession, it’s not that, but it’s the originality of it that gets to me.

And we have a lot of other interesting characters! I liked Duke and Nik a lot. Ok, Nik is not the most pleasant person in the entire world, that’s true, but I liked him, I liked him a lot, and I hope to see more of him around in the next books (because, obviously, I have every intention to go on with the series!!!). And Duke… well, Duke is Duke and you have to love him! He’s a womanizer PI who helps our dear Jamie with her cases, not the divorces one! I think I haven’t say that before but… Jamie has the peculiar ability to find herself entangled in murder cases. So yeah, she’s great, but I can understand if you don’t want her to your party. Sorry, Jamie! (But I would take Duke in a heartbeat!).

Jamie's boyfriend, Kip, is having trouble at work. He is the new director of Broward County parks, and someone is trying to make his work life miserable. Between dealing with vandalism in the parks, disgruntled employees, and a land development deal, Kip's hands are full. Along with wanting to help Kip with his work woes, Jamie also helps her father try to obtain his US citizenship.

The third book in the Jamie Quinn Mystery series. I read this as part of the Jamie Quinn Mystery Collection: Box Set Books 1-3.

This book focused more on Kip and mysteries related to his work. Jamie wanted to help her boyfriend, so she contacted her favorite private investigator, Duke, to figure out who was causing problems for Kip. I enjoyed this story. Kip was another great character, and as usual, Duke brought a lot of humor to the story.

As a side story, Jamie's father was having trouble obtaining US citizenship. Jamie enlisted the help of her best friend Grace to discover what was the problem. Grace was once again level-headed and practical, but humorous.

A fun, humorous cozy mystery. These books are quick reads, with great characters.

I enjoy Jamie Quinn as a series character.

In Book 3 she is back and her boyfriend, Kip, is in a bit of work trouble (someone is not happy that he is the new Park Director). Jamie finds herself working with her favorite PI, Duke, to find out who has been following Kip and her, after she received a threatening email. Oh, and someone was murdered at one of the parks and it may be related to this troublesome person who is following Jamie and Kip. What is going on?! Will Duke figure it out?

Compared to Book 1 & 2, I felt this one had a bit more suspense. It isn't the stressful kind that keeps you up until 2 a.m., but still keeps you engaged. There is a character that I was suspect about and I turned out to be wrong...I like when that happens!

It is a quick read, you can read this in one sitting. You can read as a standalone, but I do not recommend. You probably wouldn't know the characters as well without learning about them along the way. Reading Books 1 - 3 is the same length as a regular novel.

I received Books 1 - 3 from the author for my honest review. Thank you, Barbara, for the opportunity to get to know your characters. I bought Books 4 & 5 today!

This was an exciting, wild ride. The Broward County Parks are getting vandalized. Jamie receives a threatening email to warn her boyfriend Kip to back off – back off of what exactly? A dead body is found at the Renaissance Fair and an elephant is abused. How could all these occurrences be connected, if they even are….
While Jamie is trying to help Kip finding out what is going on in the parks she also hopes for her Dad to finally get to come to the US. Together with her friends Grace and Duke they bring to light what is going on.
A real page turner that kept me guessing till the end.

I'm really digging this series. Each one gets better, both in writing, and in plot development. It's perfect for when you're looking for a quick read with fun characters, a solid running plot line, and an interesting mystery with enough suspects to keep you guessing. Jamie now has a boyfriend Kip, and okay, he's kind of a boy scout and his name makes me laugh, but he's a genuinely sweet guy. This book is slightly longer than the first two, and as a result, the author has more time to develop her characters and it shows. I hope this trend continues!

Her friendship with Duke continues to develop, and although he is a total ladies' man and one that would normally make me want to run in the opposite direction, there is something genuine about him and I love that Jamie sees that about him. He is hilarious and generally an optimistic guy, and the excellent PI that she needs when she gets embroiled in these murder mysteries! He's a good friend to have in her corner.

The thread with her father continues, and I love that her friends help her out with this as well.

Overall, I loved this book more than the first two, and I am now firmly in the "I care about these characters" camp. Looking forward to the fourth book!

Some final thoughts:
I have both the kindle version and the audio for the first three books, and I would say the narrator is pretty decent. She attempts to do the voices and her Duke Broussard voice is hilarious. I also like her Jamie Quinn voice. I did read along to the narration and there were times when I just lost track of her voice and ended up reading ahead. I appreciated the narration for when I had to drive or something, but overall, I think I would have just preferred to read the series on my own.

Book 3 “Peril in the Park” earns 5/5 Jesters at the Renaissance Faire!

Jamie’s love life is “sunny and warm” since a former high school boyfriend is now a current one. Kip Simons is the Director of Broward County Parks. He MBA put him in the corporate rat race which turned out not to be his thing, so he earned a degree in Forestry and Park Management. This new job fits his temperament, but office politics has become a major headache and vandalism seems to be running rampant. Someone seems to be leaving snarky comments at various parks; the latest, mowed into the grass, says, “Bite Me.” Then there’s the “I-C-U” email, surveillance photos, threats, and a dead private investigator.

Jamie tries to help Kip, but he is less than forthcoming about the threats at work. He worries about her safety and she his sanity, but a sleazy developer, disgruntled employees, and jealous co-worker make things difficult. Jamie is also hoping that one day soon her father will be granted permission to come to the United States. Grace has some suggestions, but the red tape may be too much to cut through. Will Kip and Jamie expose the political shenanigans in time? Is the happiness Jamie dreams on the horizon? Will everything be bulldozed?

This is another delightful, entertaining book and possibly my favorite! Barbara continues to develop Jamie Quinn into a more confident woman personally and professionally. She has given hope that Jamie’s personal life is happier with the, albeit Skypish, relationship with her father and her boyfriend. The mystery and murder investigation was clever and contemporary fueling the debate between environmental concerns and economic boons through development. This book is a quick read, or listens in my case, but not short at all on enjoyment, and narrator Carrie Lee Martz lends her skill with her interpretation of Jamie Quinn and others. I was totally caught up in the listening experience which enriched my enjoyment.

Secrets, jealousy, ex-wife returns, dad was married before….what the?

Peril in the Park is the third book in the Jamie Quinn series by Barbara Venkataraman.

We are back with Jamie Quinn and her friends in Hollywood, Florida. It has been three years in Jamie’s time, she is still with her boyfriend Kip, awaiting her father’s return to Florida, and she is still practicing law. Jamie is doing fairly well, she is keeping up with her practice. I have to say that I love when she tells herself its ok to go into work late as her boss won’t mind since she works for herself.

The mystery centers on Jamie’s boyfriend Kip and his job at the park district. There are a few things happening there and Jamie loses contact with him a couple of times. Shall we say she is a little jealous of one of his co-workers? I thought her jealousy was endearing, Kip handled it great.

Duke is back to help Jamie and Kip figure out what is happening at the parks. What for his pirate costume, loved it.

Ms. Venkatarman that is 3 in a row that I have liked. Great job. The mysteries were good, I loved the characters, and will be looking forward to the next book.

My rating is 5 stars, I recommend the Jamie Quinn series it got a little of everything.

With her career as a lawyer going even better than just a few months earlier plus being in a happy relationship, Jamie Quinn really likes the direction her life has taken after a spell where she became unfocused. She and boyfriend Kip Simons were together years ago, and now that he is back in the area as the local county park director, they have reconnected. When mysterious threats began occurring at his work sites and even Jamie is sent a warning, they know finding the culprit responsible is extremely urgent. Between handling cases and trying to help her father along with Kip with their huge problems, she has even more reasons for not being able to sleep at nights.

As Jamie becomes entangled in each new adventure, I find myself liking her more and more as her inner nature is exposed by her actions. She enjoys having fun, but she is also mindful of her duty to others. As a family lawyer, she has to often show compassion but can be firm when needed, and these traits help in her daily life, too. She knows when to laugh with others and at herself, especially when talking with high-spirited PI Duke Broussard, but occasionally a moment can deeply touch her, and these times cause her to come across as very believable. Barbara Venkataraman makes the mysterious circumstances in PERIL IN THE PARK engrossing with plenty of intriguing questions. Another compelling book that kept me entertained all the way through. Rating - 4.5 Stars

I enjoyed the first two books in the series, but they did feel a little more like a novella than a novel, they were a little on the short side. However, I didn't mind the length because it didn't necessarily feel like she was leaving anything out. The third book feels like a full length novel. The characters are more fleshed out, she's showing us a lot more of Jamie's personality and Jamie is starting to really live her life following the death of her mother.

In this book Jamie has a boyfriend and he's having some trouble at work with someone who is vandalizing the parks, but then it starts to get more serious. Jamie gets her favorite PI involved to help her boyfriend Kip track down the prankster before someone gets hurt.

As much as I liked the first books, this one really feels like both Venkataraman and her character are getting everything together to continue a great series. I will definitely be reading more of these books.
