A toxic ex.
A girl who lost herself.
A childhood friend helping her find the way back.

When Hailey finally ends her relationship with her narcissistic ex-boyfriend, she thinks all her troubles have ended. But what she doesn’t realize is that the wounds he inflicted aren’t on her skin, but in the way she sees herself. And the only person capable of helping her heal has been in her corner all her life.

Jax has had a soft spot for the younger Porter sister ever since his family moved into their neighborhood. It feels like the most natural thing in the world to go from helping her with math homework, to holding her hand through a rough breakup years later. But as he starts to show her how beautiful and worthy she already is, he himself starts to notice the incredible woman that she grew up to be.

While Hailey struggles to balance finding her strength with navigating her budding attraction to her older sister's best friend, Jax has to decide if his new feelings for Hailey are helping or hurting her journey.

Can Jax and Hailey start something new while the past is hovering over their heads? Or will Hailey’s scars hurt them both?

2 Fights features strong language and explicit sexual scenes. Reader discretion is advised.

"There wasn't, and will never be, anyone else."
I know I don't do pretty edits, or images, or anything like that, and that's because all my creativity goes into writing. But I hope you read this review and that you decide to give this book a shot.
Nikki Castle blew me away with her debut novel, 5 Rounds, and she did it again now, in a different way.
This book is the story of Hailey and Jax.

"His smile could drive the sadness out of any room, any conversation, any person. Any heart."
I'm in love with Jax. He's perfect. He can actually be a bit too perfect, if there's even such a thing, because he's the whole package. He's a hot MMA fighter who can hurt people with his bare hands, but he's also the sweetest guy. He's also protective, and all sort of dominant in the bedroom, so, yes, OK, he just worked for me.

"In this moment, I decide I'll give this girl whatever the fuck she wants: my body, my heart, the moon, the stars, anything. It's hers."
From the previous book, we know Hailey's stuck in a toxic relationship. I liked her. I think it's not easy to walk in her shoes, and I suppose a lot of readers will just say 'damn, why didn't she just leave?'. It doesn't work like that. Narcissistic assholes like her boyfriend have the power to break people. And this book really does it right.

"The fact that he made you feel like anything less than a fucking queen makes me murderous."
We're given a tour of Hailey's relationship, and let me tell you, it's very real. The way things happen, the way her boyfriend makes her feel about herself. I've been there. And it takes her a while, but she finally snaps out of it, and realizes what's really happening. It's empowering to see her take charge, to see her want to become who she's once been. And leaving that asshole behind.
BTW, Steven, I'm 5ft7, and I could totally kick your ass.

Let me show you how it feels when a man would die if he couldn't have you."
Hailey and Jax have known each other for a very long time. But she's younger, and he's her big sister's best friend. Still, she had a huge crush on him once, and maybe he wasn't as oblivious to her as she thinks. Jax is the protector, he's there for her. He always has been. And he would do anything for her, especially now that she's single and they spend more time together. And even though he fights it, they're just right.

"Come for me. Break for me, for only me."
Their chemistry is insane. I loved how Jax would do whatever she wanted, how he empowered her, letting her be a queen and a whore, the way she never got the chance to be. They're perfect because they're friends turned to lovers, and they know each other. However, Hailey's never been in a healthy relationship where she can just be herself. Where it's OK to say no, and do things for yourself, without somebody dictating what you can and can't do.
And, ultimately, Jax only wants her to be happy, with or without him.
And that broke me. And inspired me.
We all deserve, and I wish we all had, a Jax in our lives.

"You're everything."
Watching Hailey's journey, watching her take back her power and owning who she is? Incredible. Watching Jax put himself and his love for her on the back burner so that she could do it? Extraordinary.
Them making their way back to each other, and their happily ever after?
That was everything.

Nikki Castle won me over so much with her debut, 5 Rounds, that I decided to put 2 Fights on my TBR before I was even halfway finished reading it! On top of the fantastic romance between Remy and Tristan, I loved the MMA aspect of the novel as well as the amazing friendships and the sibling relationship between Remy and her sister, Hailey. Needless to say, all that gave me high expectations for this installment in the series, and thankfully, I wasn't disappointed in the least!

Hailey and Jax's chemistry was undeniable when they were only secondary characters in another couple's story, so when they finally take center stage, it's off the charts! They've known each other since Hailey was a just kid with a crush on her big sister's best friend. Over the years, that childhood crush turned into a solid friendship between her and Jax, but when Hailey finally gets out of a long term toxic relationship, their feelings for each other take a romantic turn.

Jax is as swoonworthy as they come! He is sweet, sexy, strong, and protective. I love how selfless he is when it comes to Hailey. He's willing to try anything in and out of the bedroom to make her happy, but he's also willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure she heals and lives her best life, even if that life doesn't include him.

My heart hurt for Hailey. The mental manipulation and abuse she was subjected to by her narcissistic ex affected her to such an extent that she became a different person to keep her boyfriend happy and escape his wrath. Sadly, this happens all too often to women, and it's not discussed as much as physical abuse. I appreciate the way the author addressed this topic through Hailey's story.

Overall, 2 Fights is emotional, well-written, and perfectly paced. I enjoyed the characters, the friendships, the familial relationships, the romance, and of course, the steam! I love a dirty talker!

Sports and contemporary romance fans, this one's for you!

P.S. I'm hoping we get Aiden, Dani, and Max's story next. I'll be happy even if it's just Aiden and Dany's story. I do love a good ménage though, so fingers crossed!

This is one of those stories that's hard to review. The writing is good, but it's also missing something. At 40% in, Hailey is still rehashing her two year relationship like it was a twenty year marriage. I understand this is setting the tone for the story, but it takes up way too much time and I was ready for the story to get moving on.

The author does a good job of explaining emotional abuse, and a narcissistic personality. However, as any good therapist will tell you, things are seldom one-sided. I was so tired of Hailey's victim mentality. She goes on and on about all the things that "Steve made her do."
I miss it (dance) because I stopped going to classes when Steve and I moved in together. He made me quit with his looks of disappointment and his silence. When really, I needed encouragement.
She didn't drink because he wouldn't have liked it. She didn't get a tattoo because he wouldn't have liked it. Her low self-esteem made her give up things she liked, in the hopes that he would in turn, like her more. This is the manipulation on her part. Yes, Steve was an ass, we can all agree, but Hailey needed to take some ownership for her part in creating this toxic relationship.

Once the story gets moving and Jax and Hailey finally had sex, those scenes read like watching porn. I’m all for kink, but I think this story was trying so hard to be edgy instead of deeply emotional and genuine. I honestly never got a good feel of who these characters really were. So while this is a decent story for what it was, I craved a much deeper connection between the characters, not just a physical one.

It does end with a hea, and brought in a few new characters for the next book.

I was really excited to get to Hailey and Jax's book after meeting them in book one. If you love friends to lovers, you're going to love this book. The story starts with Hailey still dating her jerk boyfriend from book one. I really felt for Hailey, but I didn't love how Hailey was still dating him for 20% of this book when I already knew how crappy he was in book one. I hated seeing her treated that way and just wanted her to explore her feelings with Jax already. But when they finally broke up, I loved how Jax was super protective of her and how the two fell for each other. This is such a sweet friends to lovers and Jax just wanted Hailey to be happy and free again. This was definitely a character driven romance, though, so even when Hailey was out of the relationship, it still focused on her and how she learned to be independent and not try to please others so much. I would have liked a bit more of a focus on the external plot. Since this book was so long, it was hard to really obsess over this book since it was just about Hailey overcoming an abusive relationship and being in her new one. I wanted something else in the story to make the book more engaging and give the characters more purpose. But overall I still really enjoyed the romance and the story!

I’ll just say that he was ✨attentive✨ and that it was HOT.
It was not lighthearted because of what happened in the beginning of the book. I hate that she went through that.
I loved Jax and Hailey together. Watching Hailey find herself and become more comfortable and confident in her own skin was satisfying. Jax was such a cute cuddly bear.

I always feel bad when I DNF a book but this one started out a solid 4 and then, for me, took a nose dive and I just couldn’t continue. Sometimes when I think about not finishing a book I think maybe it's just the mood I'm in and I may try again later but that's not the case with this one.

I've said some authors have a special talent in writing sex scenes and I'll read every word. More authors are ok at it and I'll read most of it with some skimming but for me, for this book, reading the sex scenes was uncomfortable. Again, and I keep saying for me, the sex came across as clinical and loveless. I was trying to figure it out when someone else mentioned porn and that's what the scenes read like, written porn. And it left me cold, the opposite of what one should feel. I don’t want to go I to detail but some of what the hero did and expected her to do - just no. And the heroine seemed to like pain. Again, a hard no for me. I was also very put off that the hero kept calling the heroine, an adult woman, baby girl.

It also seemed, at least as far as I got, 68 % in, that once they added sex to their relationship, the story started to,in a back seat, while the sex was in the front seat. I struggled with whether to keep going because for half the book it was 4 stars. But I decided no, this just wasn't for me and I have so many more waiting to be read.

🌶🌶🌶

I wanna go back to the day I received this ARC ‘cause I want to experience Hailes and Jax for the first time. 🥺

I was so excited to read this book. Since the moment I finished 5 Rounds, last year; when Nikki gave us some snippets of Hailey in a toxic relationship and Jax being super protective already. I just knew Haile’s journey wouldn’t be an easy one to read.
Fight One hurts. TW: verbal abuse.

I’ve never been in a toxic relationship, so I can’t say “I know, I understand”, but, man, you could hear my heart breaking, and I was so pissed off, not with Hailey, she’s the victim. You should never blame the victim, call them stupid or just say “dump him/her, girl!”. It’s not easy to up and leave when it’s >you<. Let’s not forget… The manipulation, the things Steve did and said, Hailey prioritizing HIS happiness, avoiding confrontation and just accepting… being self conscious around him, tiptoeing… it’s heartbreaking. I liked how Nikki started 2 Fights. I think it was necessary to the plot (insight) and maybe some of you, unfortunately, will find this relatable. And if so, I’m so sorry you went through a toxic relationship. Family, friends, partners… you name it, they can all be toxic.

Every person deserves a Jax. Kid you not, this man… THIS man. Ohmygoshyouguys. Can’t even describe him. 😭 The way he worships Hailes… Reminds her, all the time, how special she is, her worth… He treats her with so much love… it’s so beautiful. And holyshit, the spice in this book… 😮‍💨 I’m excited for YOU, I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I still cannot believe 2 Fights is only Nikki’s second novel. Thank you for sharing with us your talent. So proud of you, honey. 🫂

PS2.: I loved loved loved that you gave us some Tristan and Remy scenes. Remy so freaking wise… I liked her advice A LOT!!!!

Also, can y’all imagine THEIR KIDS?????? 😭

i finally reached the love story between Jax and Hailey! similar to the first book in the fight game series (5 rounds), i devoured it.

and can i just say that i’m so grateful that this series is so underrated!!! i’m praying that booktok doesn’t pick up on this LMAOOO

*minor spoilers ahead*

Jax!!!! he is so green. he is the entire forest. that man has 0 (zero) (ZERO!!!) red flags. and he’s FINE as fuck. he’s sweet, attentive and a whole ass gentleman. and he’s filthy dirty too which obviously is an added advantage. i’m just in love with how Nikki writes her MMCs bc now idk if Jax or Tristan is my book boyfriend 😩 but oh well…

Hailey grew so much throughout the book and i’m very proud of her! just like the first book, i relate to her story a lot (unfortunately) which makes the book 10x more enjoyable imo. HOWEVER! i got quite annoyed at Hailey’s victim mentality and how that she couldn’t bring herself to go back to the things she loved until it was too late lmao it kept happening and i was so sick of it lol. i was also pissed that she didn’t block steve after they broke up because i thought he was out of the picture for the rest of the book 💀 but i understood where she was coming from i guess.

i also hoped that the reason why Hailey liked Jax (and vice versa) would have been explored more, i felt like the reason why they got together was for sex and nothing else. i wanted more scenes of them doing some couple-y things together without the spice (though i did enjoy the scenes a lot…) hence the 4 stars.

i think i’ll take a break from this series for the time being and read something else! though i’m excited to see what Aiden and Dani’s book has in store for me 👀

⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 Dirty talking stars!

I liked 5 Rounds... Tristan was a really hot asshole and Remy didn't take any prisoners, so it was a perfect match!

But Jax and Hailey perfectly fit each other in everything!
I loved Jax as a best friend for Remy and Tristan, and I love him even more as Hailey's boyfriend/supporter/friend/lover!
He was so thoughtful, caring, dominating and protective that i could only swoon all over him!

Hailey starts the book still on her mentally abusive relationship with Steve, and it was so hard to read what he was doing to her, cause the author was right on her intro note... We all know a Steve... Probably even loved one, so it was very easy to understand her reasonings for staying, and for finally leave him.

Jax was perfect from start to end!
I have zero complains about him!

I loved their story and how it grow from friends to lovers in a fluid way.

My only complain here is that, just as the first book, this one dragged a bit, with lots of repetitive scenes/words/sentences along the whole story, making the book thicker, but with unnecessary filling... A good editing to clean up the edges would make it a perfect novel!

I'm still holding up to my praise about the really good plot, the story of Hailey overcoming her abusive relationship and Jax's perfection!

Still highly recommend it!

This is one of my favorite books of the year. I know that its going to be on the end of year lists!

I love an MMA romance but the journey that Hailey goes through in this book is beautiful. The way Jax helps her is just perfection. I love the friends to lovers, sisters best friend romance. They have this incredible attraction and relationship that its so beautiful to read.

2 Fights was an emotional, well-written and full of chemistry read.

My heart hurt for Hailey. She got herself in a toxic and very destructive web of gaslighting by her narcissistic boyfriend. Sadly, this happens too often in reality, and it's not discussed as much as physical abuse. Not all abuse is psychical, and the sooner we understand this as a society the better outcomes we will have. I appreciate the way the author addressed this topic. Thank you.

However, for some reason I didn’t feel as connected to the main characters as I did with 5 Rounds. But I still found 2 Fight a reeeeally good book.

Jax is everything we could want in a hero. An ultimate book boyfriend. And the spice was absolutely incredible!!

2 Fights is the best friends to lovers romance between Hailey and Jax. Hailey is the sister of the heroine from the first book 5 Rounds, and Jax is the best friend of the heroine and hero from 5 Rounds. Hailey and Jax are best friends too since the whole group (minus Tristan, the hero from 5 Rounds) grew up together.

Hailey was stuck in a toxic/abusive relationship the past few years, and she finally decides she’s had enough. After she leaves him, she starts hanging out with Jax more because he’s the only one who’s been showing Hailey some patience while she figures out how to overcome the emotional trauma she faced at the hands of her ex. Their friendship develops into more and they become a couple. However, Hailey and Jax (but mostly Hailey) have a LOT to work out because good sex and a close bond does not erase how deeply ingrained the trauma was from Hailey’s toxic relationship.

While I did like the writing and the best friends to lovers story, I did not like how Hailey’s healing journey was handled, which is ultimately what tanked my overall enjoyment of this book towards the end. Healing looks different for everyone, but given what Hailey went through, and for how long she went through it, it seemed like she needed more than signing up for dance classes, buying a cafe, and a trip to Rome to suddenly be healed and ready to hop back in a relationship with Jax. I’m a DV survivor and I’ve enjoyed seeing more authors write about characters healing from these types of relationships, but I think it has to be fleshed out more so it doesn’t just feel like a trope being used, which is how it felt here. I did relate to Hailey on a lot of levels, but overall, the DV representation didn’t work for me.

Also some of the dialogue and sex scenes felt a bit clinical so it was hard to stay invested.

THIS BOOK WAS ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!!

Mrs. Nikki Castle SLAYED this book.

5 Rounds was amazing and I did not think it could get better than that... but boy let me tell you... it was 1,000 times better than that!

2 Fights is about Jax & Hailey. Hailey is in a toxic relationship and when that relationship finally ends, she starts to confide in Jax more than normal and those feelings she had for him back when she was a kid all come flying back and a little more intensely. Jax also starts to fall for her, and he wants nothing more than to build her self-confidence back up and bring back the old Hailey... the way Jax loves her is everything a girl could want, and more.

Jax is also a dirty-talking king... i went from sweating to swooning within a couple of lines

this book is going to put me into the biggest book hangover ever

I tried, I really did.
Hailey automatically was better than Remy, I give her that. And Jax was everything he needed to be.

But the internal monologue was just tooooooo long, I skimmed a lot 😩

The spice is what gave this story 3 stars, Nikki can write spice scenes well.

The romance was meh, the heroine was immature, and apparently, the answer to everything is mediocre sex. Also, what’s up with the casual sexist microaggressions? Didn’t feel the vibes or the characters at all.

3.5☆ 5-star hero and smut, 3-star plot and editing.

LOVED JAX. 💜🥵🥹 Total book husband material. Selfless, kind, intelligent, protective, supportive, funny, communicative, Viking-hot sex god. No complaints, he's absolutely goddamn perfect.

But.....wayyyy too much time with and repetition about the abusive, narcissistic ex. Wayyyy too much time spent by the heroine ruminating on how her ex fucked up her head. I got a VERY good sense of how emotionally abusive Steve was to Hailey within the first 15% and didn't need to spend half the book on it. I respect that the author chose this kind of journey/fight for a heroine (and the supportive hero), though, since it can be pretty ingrained behavior and patterns of thinking after getting out from under the thumb of a truly manipulative narcissist. Unfortunately a lot of the execution was overkill; I'd rather have spent more time focused on the months Hailey Or just shorten up the book.

Ultimately, I'm happy with where these two ended up, though it was hard reading about them each suffering for it. Cute reunion scene. 🥰🥹 OH and Steve-o really should have had his ass kicked early on when there’s a whole friend group of protective MMA fighters, c’mon!

I’d love this author to get a ruthless editor to cut out all the unnecessary crap and fix all the “and I” when it should be “and me.” I noticed it a couple times in Book 4 of the series (enjoyed 1 Last Shot much more) but in this one it happened every few pages--drove me nuts. So, overall a little disappointing, but Perfect Jax and their bedroom games kept me reading to the end.

Hailey & Jax!!! Ahhh I love them so much. If you love childhood friends to lovers and a MMC who WORSHIPS, you need to add this to your TBR.

💛 MMA romance
💛 Childhood friends to lovers
💛 Sibling’s best friend
💛 Problematic Ex
💛 One bed trope

🎧 2 Fights is narrated duet style by JF Harding and Emma Wilder. I think JF perfectly captured Jax’s playful yet committed personality and Emma was the perfect Hailey, showing her sassy and sweet and sometimes unsure of herself.

I loved the growth from both the FMC and MMC and the way that Jax really did whatever he could to help Hailey unlearn behaviors from her relationship with a narcissistic ex boyfriend.

🌶️ Jax is truly a cinnamon roll MMC everywhere but the bedroom, where he helped unleash all the desires Hailey had that she didn’t feel safe or free to with her jackhole ex. (Can you tell I don’t like him?)

💭 Quotes I loved:

"The fact that he made you feel like anything less than a f**king queen makes me murderous."

“What kind of wh*re do you want to be? On your knees with my 🍆 in your pretty mouth? Or on all fours with my handprint on your 🍑 as punishment for thinking you're anything but perfect?"

"Let me make you feel good," I murmur.
"Let me show you how it feels when a man would die if he couldn't have you."

"I don't want you to fuck me like I'm sweet. I want you to fuck me like I'm yours.

🖤 Thank you so much to Nikki Castle and her team for the gifted audio for me to have the opportunity to review!

Works as a stand alone bc so much of round 1 is rehashing in more details what we already know from book 1. It’s a good enough read but nothing earth shattering. Nothing much happens in the book - it lacks actual plot though there is a bit of women’s fiction thread. The epilogue was disappointing (just more steam without much context) and you have to download the bonus chapters to actually get to the real epilogue… which also pretty much gives away the rest of the series. So not sure what to make of that.

I absolutely loved this. I was so excited for Jax and Hailey after reading 5 Rounds, and this book did NOT disappoint! I loved them from chapter 1, and seeing them grow made me so happy. I loved seeing Hailey become a strong, independent QUEEN who didn't need a man but had Jax to lift her up anyway. Overall this story was so cute and HOT af, cannot recommend it enough!

2 Fights is the 2nd book in The Fight Game series. I read the first book, 5 Rounds, at the beginning of the month and had such a good time reading it. We get hints of this couple in that book and I was already really excited to see their romance play out. So of course as soon as this book dropped I started reading it! This is an amazing contemporary romance series centered around characters in the MMA world and set in Philadelphia. The series so far has followed sisters (each heroine has her book) that are also part of the same friend group. And this book is a “my best friend’s younger sister”, with the hero being childhood best friends with the heroine’s sister.

This book does start off with a heavier, emotional story dealing with domestic abuse. Hailey got into a relationship when she was just 18-years-old with an older guy (he’s 9 years older), they’ve been together 2 years when the story kicks off and she is starting to realize she’s in a very toxic relationship with a narcissistic character. A lot of emotional and verbal abuse, gaslighting, and extremely controlling (who she’s around, what she can drink, where she goes, how she dresses, how she talks, her job/hobbies, etc). Thankfully Hailey does get out of that relationship but she, rightfully so, has a lot of baggage and things to unpack from that experience. Around this same time, Hailey quickly gets into a relationship with one of her childhood friends, and her sister’s best friend, Jax. Jax has been in her life since she was 10 and they were neighbors, he’s always been her protector and it was so nice to see them both start to have feelings for one another at the same time. There wasn’t any long term pining happening, they both just started to see one another differently at the same time.

I just really enjoyed this book just like I did the first book. This one starts off before events of the first book but then does also catchup and have some overlap, I liked seeing Remy and Tristan (the couple of book 1). Remy is Hailey’s sister and Jax’s best friend, Tristan is Remy’s boyfriend and Jax’s roommate. We do see both Jax and Hailey figuring out their career paths, Jax considering retiring from MMA and focusing on his day job and Hailey juggling college, a job in the restaurant business with her dreams of opening a restaurant one day. There is some delicious sharing of a hotel room/one bed for a trip they take together. I really enjoyed their connection and chemistry. And I really liked how Hailey’s previous toxic relationship was handled, she didn’t know how to be in a healthy relationship where there is honest communication and she had a lot to work through. I liked how the book shows how hard it is for someone to leave an abusive relationship or even come to terms with the fact that the partner they are with is abusive and toxic. I think it was handled really well. We also get a glimpse of the next book’s couple and I just can’t wait for more from this author!

I don’t even know where to begin with my review. At points, it was emotionally and mentally hard to get through this book. And this wasn’t a bad book. It was a phenomenal book.

Jax and Hailey have been best friends since childhood. But with an age difference of five years, they’ve never been in a spot where they could romantically be together. And when Hailey was finally of age she was dating someone else.

"Work through whatever you need to work through. I just want to make sure that you understand you're perfect the way you are—a queen in her own right. And I'm sorry he didn't treat you that way. He didn't deserve you. He didn't deserve your kindness and your beauty and your heart. And it kills me that he didn't treat you the way you deserve. Because you're worth so much more than he ever gave you, and I just want you to know that that's on him, not you. And one day, someone will be worthy of you, and they'll love you the way you deserve to be loved. I promise you."

Now, I haven’t been in a relationship in a few years. And part of what I saw when it ended and what I’m seeing now is how dependent I was on him for my happiness and always wanting to run things by him. Part of why that relationship ended is because of how toxic it got in the end and seeing his narcissistic tendencies. The lack of trust, the gaslighting. And I saw it when reading Hailey’s relationship. If it was possible to jump through my kindle, I would shake Steve and say “Look at this girl you’re with now versus the one when you started dating. Look at how little she is to how big she was.” But narcissists don’t see that. They thirst for the power of making other inferior and dependent upon their approval.

"That girl is worth her weight in gold, and you squandered your chance with her for your bullshit mind games. And to be honest, just knowing you put her through that shit makes me want to put your head through this wall. So you don't get to pursue her anymore. You're done."

Jax was like a Viking teddy bear. I just wanted the chance to be able to bask in his presence. The biggest shock was his “intimate” appetite. How he took control in the bedroom. I understand his hesitance to start anything with Hailey. He had known her for so long, but also saw that she needed a little bit of time before starting another relationship. But the natural progression for them, once they acknowledged their chemistry, was comparable to riding a bike. They were explosive together. They were intimately compatible. Part of Jax and Hailey having such a deep bond as friends really helped play into him knowing her body and her needs. And it was hot. Like an OMG I need to experience this type of hot! This book was full of spice, so don’t think it’s that one big scene. No. Nikki fills this book with so much spice.

“I don’t want you to fuck me like I’m sweet. I want you to fuck me like I’m yours.”

Part of what I was excited for with Jax and Hailey’s book, was to be able to see the relationship that Remy and Hailey have. We didn’t see much of it in Remy’s book because of Hailey’s relationship and how alienating it was. I do have to say that I didn’t like Remy for a bit. Maybe it’s because I was in a toxic relationship and saw her advice to Hailey as sabotaging her newfound happiness with Jax. But as it got further into the book, I saw where Remy’s concern was. And it was valid concern. I’m not one for a third act breakup. But Jax taking space from Hailey, I understood it. If you can’t say ‘no’ to your partner in a relationship, then that relationship isn’t set to last in a healthy way. And because Remy saw it and let Jax in the know, Hailey was left in anger. So for that, I was all for the third act space/ breakup. Hailey needed it for growth whether she knew it or not.

“There wasn’t, and will never be, anyone else,” she tells me. “You and I have been soulmates since I was a teenager, even before we could’ve ever been romantic. Our hearts match—they always have.”

I liked the small time jumps. They weren’t huge. 2 months passed for Hailey’s POV. And then 1 month passed in Jax’s POV. Meaning they spent three months apart. I was nervous that the three months wasn’t enough. But it proved plenty. I that short of time, Hailey’s growth was huge. She finally lived for herself. She learned to say no.

*ARC received from author in exchange for my honest review. *

5 Rounds was Nikki Castle's first novel, and it blew me away, but 2 Fights was a whole other kind of mind-blowing experience. I knew that Jax & Hailey's story was going to be worth it, but I wasn't expecting the emotions that would come along with this book. Every emotion I have felt before while reading a book I felt while reading 2 Fights.

"I don't want you to fuck me like I'm sweet. I want you to fuck me like I'm yours."

Hailey has finally left her narcissistic ex but that was the easy part. Finding yourself again after such a toxic relationship is a struggle but with her sister and best friend Jax by her side she knows that she can do this. Hailey is not grieving the relationship she lost with her ex, she is grieving the loss of the person she used to be but slowly she is getting back to who she was always meant to be. Jax is a huge part of that but before too long she is starting to see him as more than a friend.

Jax will always be there for Hailey and helping her get back to who she was is a huge part of that. He has known her since she was a kid and knows her better than she even knows herself sometimes but the feelings he is having for her now are much more than that of a friend. He can't get her off of his mind and as his feelings grow the resolve to stay away from her in that way is cracking.

Hailey & Jax's friendship becomes stronger than it has ever been and soon there is no denying the pull they have for one another. Jax gives Hailey everything she has every wanted and Jax finally feels like everything he has ever craved is within his grasp, but Hailey is still clinging to the toxic traits she had to endure for years. He knows that the only way for her to get through all this to step back and let her come to the realization that she is indeed worth it. If he does this, steps away to let her grow into the person he sees everyday will he lose her forever?

Nikki Castle can write a story unlike anyone that will grasp at your heart and pull you in even before you know it. Jax is a definite contender for top book boyfriend ever because while he was tender with Hailey and her feelings, he was also entirely possessive in the only way that is acceptable. In the bedroom. I AM TALKING SERIOUSLY SPICY BABES!!!

I know we are still early into 2022 but this book is going to stay with me. Nikki gave us a story of hope, love and overcoming those demons that never seem to want to retract their claws. You will laugh, you might even cry but above all 2 Fights will give you hope that you too can become the best version of yourself.

Ever since I read 5 Rounds I fell in love with Nikki Castle’s writing style. When she announced that Jax was getting a book, I was so excited. Nikki Castle did not disappoint, fell in love with Jax and Hailey.

First things first, I hate Steve. Ugh, the way he treated Hailey, wanted to punch the shit out of him. We get to see how Hailey’s light gets snuffed by a manipulative jerk, someone who was supposed to love and care for her. With this book I love how Nikki Castle gave Hailey her power back. The way that Jax build her up, through his friendship and his love. The way he would care for her and empower her, encouraged her, believed in her. Remy being the best sister, supporting her, protecting her. Hailey and Jax have such a beautiful friendship and it’s beautiful how we see it develop into something else.
When someone repeatedly says you’re not good enough, you start believing it. So even if she had all that support, she carried those insecurities. Her relationship with Jax was suffering because he wanted her to believe in herself, not just because he said it. We have to learn to love ourselves first ❤️

Loved it! Nikki Castle thank you for writing such a wonderful sexy, caring, loving man. Oh and Jax is 🥵🥵 in the bedroom department. Hailey is one lucky girl, well Jax is too 😜.

“Hey, baby girl”-Jax

“And one day, someone will be worthy of you, and they’ll love you the way you deserve to be loved. I promise you”-Jax

I don’t want to fight this pull between us anymore. I want to push him, to make him break and acknowledge this new fire.- Hailey

The story follows Hailey, an independent but emotionally fragile woman stuck in a toxic relationship with her manipulative boyfriend, Steve. Steve constantly gaslights her, isolates her from her friends, and tears down her self-confidence. Hailey knows she’s unhappy but struggles to leave, torn between fear and the desire for something better. Eventually, after a heated argument, she finally stands up for herself and breaks free. It’s a powerful moment, where she chooses her own well-being over the relationship, and it feels both freeing and empowering.
Then there’s Jax, her long-time friend , childhood crush, and protector, who has always had her back. Their relationship starts shifting from friendship to something more as Hailey begins to find her strength again. The chemistry between them is undeniable, especially when Jax helps her rediscover her confidence and encourages her to regain control of her life. He’s everything Steve isn’t—patient, supportive, and genuinely protective of her.
But the story isn’t just about their romance. It’s about Hailey’s personal growth. With Jax by her side, she starts to heal from the trauma of her past, rediscovering old passions and thinking about new career paths. Her journey is tough, but ultimately rewarding as she reclaims her independence and sense of self.
The audiobook really brings the story to life, especially with the emotions between the characters. You can really feel the tension and chemistry between Hailey and Jax, and the narrator does a great job capturing Hailey’s internal struggles and makes us listeners want to punch Steve. It’s an engaging listen that pulls you into her journey of finding herself again, while finding the right kind of love.

“It's like she's become a part of me, an extension of me—a piece of my heart beating outside of my body.”

Before I start this review I just wanna say, HI PAPA CASTLE! YOU ROCK!!!!

Jax and Hailey.. they are so precious, I have so much love for them. 2 Fights is the second book in the fight game series and can be read as a standalone. It's about Jax who ends up falling for his best friends little sister, Hailey who is just getting out of a very toxic, emotionally abusive relationship.

Hailey was amazing as a character, I really loving watching her overcome her struggles and heal. I think Nikki did a really great job with dealing with a sensitive topic like abusive/toxic relationships, and as someone who has experienced something similar to Hailey did, I appreciated it a lot. I may have cried a couple times.

and theres Jax... amazing, sweet and dominant Jax. Man, he was hot. I love that man and the way he loved Hailey... swoon. Their spicy scenes were also top notch!

I really enjoyed this book. The writing was great and I really enjoyed every minute of this story. I don't really have anything negative to say. I'm looking forward to the next couples book.

More quotes I loved:

“I wish you could see yourself the way that I do. I wish you could see how strong and capable and incredible you are.”

"I hope you know that. I hope you know what you're worth, Hailey. But if you don't, I'm happy to remind you every single day until you wake up with it as inherent knowledge. I have no problem shouting it from the rooftops, or buying you a crown, or bowing at your feet like a fucking servant. Whatever it takes to get it through your head."

“she was the girl whose sunshine could melt any storm clouds in my life in a heartbeat.”

After getting out of a toxic relationship, Hailey is on a journey of rediscovering herself. In the process, she starts spending time with her sister's best friend, Jax. Hailey used to have a crush on Jax, but those feelings naturally faded away when she grew up. Jax has always seen Hailey as his best friend's little sister...until now.

The first 17% of this book sets up Hailey's toxic relationship with her ex boyfriend. It's very detailed and extremely well-written, showing you the multiple complex layers of a toxic relationship. Even though it does take some time for the romance between Hailey and Jax to kick off, the set up of Hailey's previous relationship is integral for her character growth and development.

Overall, I really enjoyed this friends to lovers and best friend's sister romance. I didn't love it as much as I loved 5 Rounds, but that was mostly because I connected with Remy and Tristan a lot more than I did with Hailey and Jax. Hailey had a great character arc and Jax is the perfect boyfriend...but dare I say, a bit too perfect? I feel like Jax came across as unrealistically perfect because he was set up to be the complete opposite of Hailey's ex.

As with the first book, there are a few minor problematic things (i.e., "perfect model-thin body" and the whole Moroccan thing), but I am choosing to overlook them because the author did a great job illustrating the differences between a toxic relationship and a healthy relationship. Even though the books in this series tend to be a bit too long, the romance has all the tension, banter, and steam that I've come to expect from this author. I can't wait for the next one!

Just like in the first book I was entertained 80% of the time. Still there’s a lot of filler stuff that doesn’t keep my attention and I end up skimming the pages, and 50% into the book we are still in the midst of Hailies struggles trying to understand the games Steve is playing at but still no actions for her to leave him. I can appreciate it as I’ve been there myself in my 20s and the author does a great job explaining the way you are slowly manipulated into a state of thinking everything is your fault and you’re the one who causes him to act like he does, treat you like he does. A narcissist is hard to fight with, they are masters at manipulation and gaslighting. So bravo.
Again, it’s moves in a very little world and the drinking at bars and sitting on the couches was a bit overkill for me. The book lacks interesting scenarios in between the steamy sex scenes and Hailies inner turmoil that you can relate to.
On the flip side, the spiciness in this book? the author has down 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 Jax is one of those guys you can’t help but love because he’s perfect and everything women want in a man. And maybe too good yo be true? 😉 So compared to my favorite authors and books I’ve been so invested in where the stories take you to another level then you’ve even imagined, I can’t give it more then 3,5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 A good relationship abuse book will enrage you, make you want to fight for the victim and has you sobbing but I did non of those things here unfortunately.
