MANTIS As a K19 pilot, I see and hear a lot, while facing battles that take me away. When I’m undercover, I’m sometimes forgotten. All that matters to me now, is Alegria Mondreau, helping her heal. I’ve loved her since college; I’d do anything to get her back, make her happy—even if it means walking away.
ALEGRIA I loved him first. I know that. But he walked away. And I fell for someone else. Now that he’s back, there’s more on the line. Our lives are in danger. We need a lot more than prayers, and MANTIS is ready for the fight.
While each book in the K19 Security Solutions series is a standalone with its own HEA, they may be more enjoyable read in order.
When Mantis Cassman's best friend, Dutch, rescues him, Mantis knows he's not coming home to the woman he still loves because Alegria is with Dutch now. Talk about a clusterfuck! But Dutch knows in his heart of hearts that Alegria doesn't love him the way she loves Mantis. Will Dutch step aside so his best friend can have the future with the woman they both love that Alegria and Mantis have looked forward to since they all met years ago?
Although I've read the first story in this series, Razor, it didn't really affect my understanding of Mantis because I don't remember Razor that well aside from remembering I didn't like the heroine. So I'd say this is definitely a standalone within a series of interconnected standalone stories. I have mixed feelings about Mantis. I didn't connect with any of the leads and quite frankly, the idea that Alegria so quickly hooked up with her ex's best friend really irritated me. Yes, they were both single so technically it was OK, but yet, not really. There's a friendship code and both Alegria and Dutch stepped way across that line. Honestly, if I were Mantis, I wouldn't have been able to take her back knowing she so quickly hooked up with my best friend once I was gone.
So 3.5 stars because, although well written, I didn't connect with either of the leads and once again, I didn't like the heroine.
Considering the title of the book (and knowing there's a book for Dutch), I didn't expect this book to be so love-triangle-y. Yes, I knew Dutch, Mantis and Alegria were having issues, but I thought it'd be more like "Dutch and Alegria were an item once, he's totally out of the picture now and Alegria and Mantis need to find their way back together". Well, it wasn't like that and I'm disppointed.
Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying this series and its characters, but this book didn't do it for me. I had a really, really hard time trying to like the main characters.
Dutch is kind of a main character, or maybe a strong secondary character in this story, I'm not sure. He, Alegria and Mantis have been best friends for years and Dutch has been lusting and pining over Alegria for just as long, even though he's fully aware she's in a relationship with Mantis. And when Mantis and Alegria aren't together anymore, Dutch jumps right into bed with her. Ok, Mantis and Alegria weren't a couple anymore, but come on. They were all friends for so long, and he's been "in love with her" for so long, it's not like it caught them off guard and Dutch and Alegria just couldn't help it. It felt like he was just waiting for an opportunity. Still Dutch had some more redeeming qualities than the other two.
Mantis pissed me off for other reasons. He was arrogant, entitled and he claimed he didn't want to be a hero...he just wanted to single-handedly eliminate all bad people in the world. Riiiiight. And it rubbed me the wrong way how he talked about Alegria. Oh she couldn't understand why he had to take on every assignment, he didn't have a choice. But that was because he was from USA and she was French, so she didn't have his work ethics. Oh. My. God! Seriously? Of course, because there aren't hard working people outside USA, he's the only golden boy.
On the other hand, I couldn't make myself like Alegria (but not because of her "work ethics"). She was a brat and egoistical, she led Dutch on, but wouldn't let go of Mantis. And when they were both talking to another woman, she felt irritated and moody. For God's sakes, woman, grow up.
And to add to all that, for being so well trained and one of the best ones in the field, they sure made some really poor, unthought decisions.
As I said, I'm enjoying this series and I'll keep reading it. It's just that this book's left a bad taste in my mouth, even though it hooked me enough to keep reading it.
Let me start by telling you that I have mixed feelings about this one, so you can see my bias up front. There is no question that this is a terrific book with top notch writing. The author's love and care of her craft clearly comes through in both the perfection of the finished product and her attention to meticulous research, which makes the story beautifully rich and colorful. My disquiet is with the love triangle. There's no cheating, so rest easy on that, but in a love triangle, someone inevitably loses. And this may be the longest running triangle in the history of romance, or at least those without any time traveling.
Dutch, Mantis and Alegria have all been best friends since they first met back in their Air Force Academy days. Maybe it was the uniqueness of Alegria being the exchange student from France, but both Dutch and Mantis were half in love with her at first glance. At the time, Alegria only had eyes for Mantis. She and Dutch were great friends, but Mantis held her heart. Then came years of ups and downs between Mantis and Algeria, with life intruding, as it often does. When this book begins, all three are operatives working for the K19 Group, but Mantis and Alegria are no longer together, and Alegria is with Dutch. Sort of.
Another confession I need to make is that I really didn’t like Alegria through most of the book, and I realize my bias regarding love triangles likely influenced that. I will say that life certainly dealt her some major blows, and a part of me sympathized with her circumstances. I also think she would have continued her ambivalence without the hardships that finally put things into perspective for her and got her to pull her head out of her, well, you know. Mantis definitely gets props for putting up with her and sticking with her when things got tough. Dutch also gets major props for his true, selfless friendship, and I suspect he will have an amazing story when it’s finally his turn to find his soul mate. I’m nearly giddy with anticipation awaiting it!
This is a story that definitely takes the reader on a roller coaster of emotions, and it's certainly one that needed to be told as part of the K19 series. Don’t let the love triangle put you off, because this is a wonderful story of redemption, healing, and second chances that will make your heart happy for having read it. It may also put a few things in your own life into perspective, reminding us about what really matters in life. I adore every one of the characters in this series (yes, even Alegria) and urge you not to miss a minute of their amazing stories!
*I reviewed this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.
I purchased this bundle with high hopes, I mean for the majority I couldn’t go wrong...ex military turned “security” that’s more mercenary - right? Wrong!
This book left me frustrated.
How long were Dutch and Alegria together? The time lines off but I think she was with Mathis for several years and Dutch for a few months, it’s not clear.
Dutch moved in on Alegria the first chance he gets and while his best friend was on a mission and this is after Dutch leaves the woman he loves but not as much as he loves Alegria ...WTF? I mean really WTAF?!? When Manis and Algeria are together again she still hasn’t broken up with Dutch!! But yes Dutch will be the best man text - eyes roll up into my head!
First gross, yep these guys have both had sex with this woman. So much for the bro code huh? Alegria is supposed to be military right? She doesn’t understand Mantis was called to a mission rather then a romantic getaway? I did not like her from book 1 when she “looked” at Razor (per Ava) and I still don’t like this character.
Dutch is a opportunist not a friend, the mans been in love with his best friends girl for years - that makes you a dick Dutch, regardless of the way this author tries to make you a hero, you should have never touched her to start with.
I really wish Mathis had moved on with someone else and let Alegria be halfasssed in her relationship with Dutch and miserable but nope she compares them in her mind being “more friends then lovers” with Dutch and the sex with Dutch wasn’t “the same” as it was with Mathis - of course it’s not the same you bitch, they are 2 different men. Still she gets a happy ending for being an immature jealous tramp who screws her boyfriends best friend 🤬
The rescue missions were skimmed over, no real detail, seeming simplified but always successful. I mean suddenly Dutch knew Razors voice - yay he has his memory back. AND isn’t it just special that the woman Dutch left behind for his best friends girl is the same involved in the kidnap/rescue. Honestly? Really? (can’t say I’m excited to read about her and Dutch)
As with the past books the “sexy” scenes are quick and satisfying - sorry but I like a little (a lot) more heat in the books I read.
I purchased this bundle so I’ll continue but at this point I only want to read Monk and Strikers books before I’m done 😳
This is my first book by this author. This story is about a love triangle. Both Mantis and Alegria's have been on-again-off-again in their relationship but things went badly when he made his mission a priority over her,. She the turned to Dutch - their best friend - for more comfort and things, picked up from there. Now that his mission is complete, Mantis wants to reclaim Alegria but doesn’t want to hurt Dutch. I am not sure a love triangle is the best read for me. It makes me too emotional - even after many viewings, I still have a hard time watch Bella, Edward and Jake so I didn’t want anyone to lose or be hurt and I’m not a menage fan, so I was frustrated. Dutch is a selfless guy. Even though he was well within good taste to have a relationship with Algeria as Algeria and Mantis has ended their he knows, in his heart, that they belong together and regardless of his own heartbreak, steps out of the way, not realizing that he is stepping right into a dangerous situation left by Mantis’completed mission. Complicated, yet compelling. Lots of twists and turns. I voluntarily received an arc copy of this book

What a tangled up mess this is, Manon aka Alegria is torn. Originally from France she was accepted to United States Air Force Academy where she met Mantis and Dutch. Her decision to stay in the US was the offer of fighter pilot training and her love of Mantis. Although circumstances had them more apart than together and then Mantis chose a mission over time with her. That was their end.
Now with Alegria still recuperating from a bullet wound in her back, Mantis has been held captive in Somalia. Dutch her current 'boyfriend', K19 partner and one of Mantis' best friends is tasked with retrieving him and the others with him.
Dutch knows he can't stay with Alegria, she is still very much in love with Mantis. The question is can Mantis and Alegria get over the past and work toward a future. Dutch is leaving for California to meet up with Doc about another assignment.
We get a look at the past when Dutch, Mantis and Alegria were at the Air Force Academy. But Alegria going with Mantis to his family is a turning point. Her injury and rehabilitation and whether she will be able to fly again all contribute to the emotions in this book.
These two are meant to be together. You will laugh, cry, want to throw the book across the room (but you won't). The highs, the lows, secrets and everything in between is covered in this book including the sizzle between them.
I have already read and reviewed Dutch (Book 5) and Striker (Book 6) is coming out later this month. Don't miss this series!
Mantis and Alegria's on-again-off-again romance hit a brick wall when he made his mission a priority over her, and she turned to their shared best friend, Dutch, for more than comfort. Now that his mission is complete, Mantis wants to reclaim Alegria but doesn't want to hurt Dutch in the process.
Dutch is the real hero in this story, knowing as he does that Mantis and Alegria belong with each other regardless of his feelings for her. He steps out of the way, not realizing that he's stepping right into a dangerous situation left by his friend's completed mission.
Mantis is every girl's dream guy, devoted to Alegria even when he thinks she still prefers Dutch. She's got a lot of trauma in her life between recovering from a gunshot wound that's further exacerbated by another injury and her controlling parents and their uncertain future, but when Dutch's life is at stake, both Mantis and Alegria rush to his rescue.
The emotional layers of this story are just as captivating as the rescue missions. We get to go deep into the hearts of all three of these life-long friends, and we learn about their shared history and where the friendship began. Mantis and Alegria have a long way to go to reach their HEA, but it's an exciting journey that can't be missed. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I have read every book in this series, so far, and love each one! They are all so well written and developed that it seems like they are all my friends now. 💗
In this one, as with most of the others, you will need a box of tissues because of all the sub-plots and twists. It has not been an easy romance for Mantis and Alegria, but then, nothing so deep and true ever is. I adore these two... I know, I say that about each one, but it's true. 😉😍 This one will take you on a really emotional journey full of friendships, misunderstandings, forgiveness, and lots of love. Oh yeah... and some intrigue and danger thrown in there to keep it from being too sweet. 🙈💔💖
It is the fourth book in the K19 Security Solutions series and reads much better in the order it was written, in my opinion.

I enjoyed this book much better than Books 1 & 2 of the series. This plot wasn’t as confusing, and there weren’t a bunch of repeat bedroom scenes. I felt for Dutch and Mantis. Their friendship was certainly being tested. I knew the relationship between Mantis and Algeria wasn’t always healthy, but their love was real. Not sure I liked Algeria at all the time, as she played with Dutch’s emotions. More so than the other books, this was more about romance. The plot didn’t center around a black op mission. There action and suspense that took place during the last quarter of the book. I didn’t think Algeria being discharged from a hospital to the Middle East was very realistic, and that made this book lose a half of star rating from me. I will say the author did her homework on the USAFA. My dad worked there for 20 years. She described the location with insight and accuracy. The Chapel is a slight to behold. Too bad there wasn’t a wedding scene in the Cadet Chapel.
I didn't want to like this book I mean come on Manon tried to make him choose between her and his mission and then hooked up with his best friend. I mean who cares that the three of them had been friends since the academy come on there has to be a rule that was broken. But and yes there's a but. The story was just too darn good not to be okay with how it worked out. Especially since one of them knew they weren't the first choice. This author does a number of things to us in this read. Emotions are flying high and the stakes rise higher with each page. There are relationships that will be healed and it's not just between these three either. Truths will be revealed and revenge will prove a bitter pill. More than anything lives will be saved and true love will takes it's rightful place and all will be well with the world again. . . or maybe not.
I have read several of the other books in this series and each one is exciting, emotional and have well written storylines and awesome characters. This is no exception. mantis, Allegria and Dutch have been friends since their days at the Air Force Academy and have each other’s backs. Mantis and Allegria have been a couple off and on for sometime, but they are very passionate about one another. When Mantis takes a mission Allegria doesn’t want him too, she gives him an ultimatum, her or the mission. He takes the mission and she breaks it off with him. When she is wounded in an Op, she calls Dutchand he steps in, because he has always loved her too. This is a great read with ups and downs, suspense, heartache and following ones heart. Highly recommend this book.

Mantis and Alegria have had their trials but with Mantis putting the mission first, it hurt Alegria. So turning to Dutch for support (and more than that - which I thought was tacky), she has literally told Mantis they are done. But he still holds her heart yet she strings Dutch along who really does love Alegria. I wasn't too thrilled with Alegria and thought she acted very selfish to the point I was hoping both guys would dump her and look elsewhere. Mantis is devoted to Alegria even though she is now with his best friend. The best part of the book was finding out about Mantis' and Dutch's history. I get that Alegria had trauma but who in these books hasn't. Loved Dutch as well. Such a great standup guy! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the continuing story of Mantis, Allegria & Dutch. Dutch helped to rescue Mantis from his mission, in which he succeeded. Allegria is with Dutch now. She loves him, but not as much as she loves Mantis. Their history goes back to them being Cadets together in the Air Force. They have both loved her since that time. They are also all best friends. Allegria broke up with Mantis because he always picks missions over her. That's when she started to go out with Dutch. Dutch knows he has to step aside. He tells her he has a mission that he's going on. Mantis and Allegria leave to go see his family. Will they get together for good this time? Many things happen in this story, so much action. So many emotions. Yes, there is a happy ending, too. This is a wonderful series. You won't be able to put it down. Looking forward to more.
Mantis is about three people who have been best friends for years. Both males love the female but her heart and soul only belongs to one. Slade gives us the story of Mantis, Dutch and Alegria. Mantis and Alegria have been a couple for years on and off. Dutch is their best friend but also loves Alegria. When Mantis walks away from Alegria because he has to finish a mission he started years ago she turns to Dutch. Dutch knows Alegria will only love Mantis so he has to push them back together. Slade gives a good love story filled with humor, suspense, mystery, tears and intrigue. We also get to see some of my favorite characters from K19. So pick up a copy of Mantis but I recommend starting with Butler's Ranch or Razor to help understand characters and storylines. Happy Reading!!
K19 Exploits and a Love Triangle; an Emotional Story!!
Mantis and Alegria are soulmates. When Mantis chooses work over Alegria she breaks it off with him. Dutch also loves Alegria, and is by her side while she heals from a gunshot wound. Thus begins this emotional story!!
A roller coaster ride of danger, intrigue, doing what is right and loving someone enough to let them go.
We get pertinent backstory on each main character, and are revisited from K19 team members from other books. There is teamwork, humor and complex relationships which will keep you thoroughly engrossed until the final page. An incredible read!

3.5 stars for my first K19 and Heather Slade experience.
In my opinion it's not necessary to have read previous novels in this series to read and enjoy Mantis but I don't doubt that already knowing the characters and the back story gives the reader a deeper understanding of the company and its history.
Mantis and Alegria have been madly in love for a number of years but after Alegria issues Mantis with an ultimatum, they break up and Alegria moves on.
This story highlights their journey through hostage taking, drugging and apparent kidnappings to their HEA.
The author's writing style reminds me of a movie with ever changing scenes which means you're never bored but also means the story is easy to read.
I look forward to more in this captivating series.
I have read Heather Slade's K19 series and enjoyed each exceptional book. But this one is the best of the best! Although the story of Mantis, Allegria and Dutch began in previous books, this one can be read as a stand-alone. The author writes enough history of the characters that the plot is never muddied. Two men in love with one woman, throw in a kidnapping or two, secret military operations and the instability of the Middle East, and you have a plot with so many twists and turns that you will not see the end coming. Ms. Slade writes an excellent military romance with plenty meat to sink your teeth into, yet she weaves enough suspense and romance to keep the reader intrigued. In case you can't tell: I LOVED IT!
Book 4 of the K19 Team, and as had been indicated in the last book, this book is about how Mantis and Allegria, with Dutch's help find back together. The last book ended with Mantis captured by Somalis, so of course this story begins with his resccue mission. Like the other books there is a constant switch in viewpoint and focus, seeing the K19 team fighting for their members, risking all to get them back. I would not advise to read the story without having read the others before - at least book 3 is kind of necessary to understand the dynamics between the different players. Well- written and highly entertaining. I am looking forward to the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is book 4 in the K19 Security Solutions series and it features Mantis and Alegria. Their love is so deep and explosive! How they could stand to be apart for so long is beyond me. Their reasons are understandable but hard to accept. My heart breaks for Dutch though. He’s a good man but I don’t know how he does it. His last text to Mantis brought tears to my eyes.
The action and suspense is amazing with all these fantastic characters! There is so much thought and planning that must go into these books, which makes them hard to put down. It’s not just a quick run through of a military-type op but a detailed, almost as if you’re there, op. I can’t wait for the next book from this very talented author.
A fantastic must read that will have readers captivated from beginning to end. Filled with angst, thrillingly dangerous situations, heartache, flirtatious banter, and romantic, unforgettable love. Mantis is a former Air Force pilot turned K19 operative who has been in love with the same woman for years. Alegria always thought she would marry Mantis until life and decisions got in the way. The story line was well written and captivating The characters were wonderful and lovable. Heather Slade writes great descriptive story plots that are easily imaginable by readers. I absolutely loved this book and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

I am so glad we finally got to Mantis and Alegria's book, it seems like forever that their relationship has been brewing whilst we read previous books. It is deep, emotional and has a number of unexpected twists...as you would expect from a K19 book. What I didn't expect, and is the reason it is only 4.5 not 5 stars, is that throughout the whole book there are random numbers inserted in sentences, sometimes the sentence still makes sense if you remove the numbers but others it is gibberish, for example 'Alegria sat down 3:06 said on should be at the table and rolled her eyes' - I still now have no idea what that sentence should be! Not sure if these are typos or some sort of formatting error but they appear throughout the book.
Although Mantis' Desire starts off as a love triangle it quickly becomes apparent that there's love between Mantis, Alegria and Dutch, it's mostly the illusion of love for one of them. Dutch steps aside but it's an act of selflessness knowing that the other two belong together. Mantis plays the friendship card with her and becomes her physical therapist and champion. Unfortunately an accident exacerbates her injuries and her family takes over leaving Mantis out in the cold. It doesn't last long though. He's will to take on anyone who tries to keep him from the woman he loves. Things heat up and a mission to the Middle East goes sideways but eventually achieves the desired results. Mantis and Alegria finally really face their feelings and make the commitment they both desire.
Love triangle no more…thankfully. Mantis and Alegria get their next chance and Dutch bows out. The back and forth still exists as he gets in danger and Alegria is injured, but thankfully the emotional triangle is not an issue for long. We meet a new character who also was a love interest for Dutch, see the whole team come together for the three, and learn more about Striker, more team members, Alegria parents and the team dynamics. The POV is of current and past times to build the relationship histories. The ending ends on a great positive for Mantis and Alegria and with some unknowns in the form of Malin and how her actions/relationship with Dutch will proceed!
Mantis, Dutch and Allegra have been best friends from the start. Mantis and Allegra became a couple but she gave him the ultimatum to stop doing missions and put her first. When he took the mission regardless she turned her back on him and began a relationship with Dutch who had also loved her from the start. Allegra was badly hurt when a mission went wrong and needed spinal surgery. Mantis had just got back and arrived at the hospital just in time to see her regain consciousness and turn to Dutch. They will all face danger before everything is resolved.

Mantis and Alegria have been part of this journey throughout the series and now we get their story. What a rocky relationship they have had and it isn't smooth sailing getting to their happily ever after, but Manits is one of those books that you will just have to keep the pages turning so you can find out what in the world is going to happen next. Alegria's family was not on my favorite list in this one, but that story has such a unique twist that brought me around to liking them by the time I got to the end. I loved this story and as always it just leaves me wanting to know where the story is going for all of the other characters.
Another great edition to the K19 security family and this book can be read as a stand alone but do yourself a favour and read the entire series the order is Razor, Gunner and Mistletoe you will not be disappointed and will have a far better understanding of this book
Mantis, Alegria and Dutch are a team that has worked together for years they always have one another's backs but what happens when Mantis and Dutch both develop feelings for Alegria who will she pick wil it destroy the team You will need to read to see. There will be plenty of blood pounding action in the meanwhile as this team takes on yet another case for K19 security
This is the fourth book in the series and while it can easily be read as a standalone if you get the chance to read the others they are all really good. This is Mantis and Allegra's story these two were together and in love but when he chose a mission over her they split. So she starts a relationship with Dutch who has been in love with right from when they first met, but now Mantis realises he made a mistake and wants her back read the book to find out what happens. This was a great read I was hooked waiting to see what would happen next.
This is a well written book with an intriguing story line. The author once again brings strong well developed characters and weaves a story filled with drama, secrets, danger and suspense as well as the romance. It's action packed with enough twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages right to the end. The passion and chemistry between Allegra and Mantis is hot but will it be enough? I loved this book / series and highly recommend reading.

This is the only book I read in this series and I was afraid that I would be lost when reading this book. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t matter that I didn’t have all the back history of the characters because the author kept the reader clued into specific character dynamics.
I recommend you read this intriguing story of danger, drama, and a gamet of emotions. This was a well written story and one that is a must read.
