'Always pray and be kind' were Lubelihle's meditating words. Lubelihle Ndlovu is a young and prayerful girl who goes through hell and back after her parent's death. She suffers emotional, sexual and physical abuse from the people who are supposed to protect her. Her move to Harare seems to be the best decision she has ever made; she has a family that loves her, she gets the job she loves and a man that adores her, Will marriage heal her from her past events?
Marriage issue, society never clears the issue to people about the marriage all the pastors and the families want is to make sure one gets married they are never concerned about what happens inside the marriage. Also the society never educates people that it is not a crime to have a failed marriage. They want people to stay even if they made a mistake. Also married people sell lies some on social media. Hence I still say social media is the scam of all the scams that ever existed in any lifetime. I feel like Lubelihle was neglected. Society seems to neglect abuse victims somehow. I feel like someone needed to take time to care. She never healed. No one even cared. As an educator I feel like we are not doing much. Maybe her teacher was supposed to realise. Most of the times we don't care about therapy even if we do care we send these kids to therapists. What if they do not want to talk to their parents and in the other hand they do not want to talk to a stranger? We do psychology, philosophy and sociology as teachers but I feel like we never use it when needed we call social workers that are strangers to these kids. All we want is to teach and get results and do not care about the rest. Sometimes the kids do not want to come to us because they know we will go to our stuff rooms and discuss it. Some knows that the teacher can't even wait to post about their problems to social media the scam of all times. I know we have many children in school and class but not all are abused and some abused might need our help. I feel like Lubelihle was neglected also at school because children spend most of their times at school. Are we really doing much as teachers or as long as we have a career and the government is not paying us much to care? There are so many issues in this books I would want to vent about but what worried me the most was the role of teachers in the society and the duties we are neglecting much and pushing them to social workers or the family or the therapists who are expensive and most parent can't afford that. Well I was challenged to do more and stop paying attention to my phone and social media and care about what I signed up for. Some of the abuse carries on because of our negligence as the society. This books it challenged me a lot
