Appreciated this work for its broad focus- not just biography but, covered Whitefield’s theology, the critics during his life, both religious and secular. What his messages revealed about the times and and it’s place in Methodist history was revealing. The author addresses both Whitfield’s experiences in the American colonies and England, with the similarities and differences. As someone who was so influential/ well known during his ministry, this work provides a helpful understanding of who George Whitefield was and why he matters in understanding the 18th century in British and American history.
