Beautiful Rage: The Break of Dawn is a twisted tale of maniacal revenge. The third installment in the Prison Chronicles Series explores the tragic, but triumphant tale of Dawn Langston. Reporter, Vanessa Jackson, gives Dawn the rare opportunity to tell her side of the story, granting her the gift of redemption and giving her a voice she otherwise may have never been afforded.

When Dawn’s sister is kidnapped and brutally murdered by a heartless and narcissistic drug dealer, Dawn becomes obsessed with redemption. Following the adage, “Revenge is a dish best served cold,” she sets out to execute a convoluted, diabolical plan to make her sister’s killer pay with more than just his life. Keeping her plan a secret is a hefty duty that becomes even more complicated when the detective who worked her sister’s case becomes a love interest and a dangerous distraction. Dawn is continuously faced with the task of setting her morals and personal life aside in order to wreak havoc on the one man that took the most important person from her life and tore her family to pieces.

With Beautiful Rage: The Break of Dawn, author Janaya Black plunges readers into the dark and sinister mind of a woman gone mad with rage. There is no time to catch your breath as each scene is depicted with a straight forward and no nonsense illustration that keeps you turning the pages until the inevitable is finally revealed. In engaging myself in this quick and entertaining read, I found that I was questioning my own morals and feeling a tinge of guilt for rooting Dawn on during her sadistic conquest. We would all like to believe that we wouldn’t do something as heinous as taking the law into our own hands, but there is a thin line between raging anger and insanity.

This book will leave you with the question, “What would you do avenge the death of the person you love the most?” This book is not for the faint of heart as I found some parts a little difficult to swallow. But I was just too enthralled to turn away. If you’re looking for a fast-paced, hard-hitting adrenaline rush, you’ve found it with Beautiful Rage: The Break of Dawn. Check it out, but only if you think you can handle it.

Rough Justice

Vanessa `The Voice' Jackson, a journalist on assignment, visits the Wayne County Women's Correctional Facility for an exclusive interview with Dawn Langston, a woman convicted of the kidnapping and murder of the man that kidnapped and murdered her sister. Ms. Langston and her horrific experience may just cause Vanessa to question her own beliefs and preconceived notions.

"Beautiful Rage: The Break of Dawn" is a tragic tale that packs a lot into a small package at 161 pages. I felt like I was watching an episode of 48 Hours Mystery or Dateline as author Janaya Black allowed Dawn to tell her story of anguish and revenge. It is a very quick yet satisfying read.

There were some editing issues, particularly the misuse of punctuation after a closing quotation mark. Also, this novel starts with a first-person prologue. Readers gather from the book's synopsis that the narrator is Dawn Langston. That narration stops and a new narrator is introduced, Vanessa, who finishes the prologue and moves right into chapter one. It's not until I was a few paragraphs into chapter two that I realized the narration had again changed back to Dawn as there is no distinction. This continued with change in narrations between the two characters with no distinction. Readers are left to figure out which character is speaking based on what is being said. Though the editing issues were distracting, it wasn't enough to disturb my overall reading experience. I would, however, recommend that the author find a more knowledgeable editor for future releases.

Janaya Black leaves readers with thoughts to reconcile with their own beliefs. A book that makes me wonder what I'd do given the character's situation is always a plus.

Upon completing this book I learned that this was actually the third book of a series. I don't know all of what I've missed learning about character Vanessa Jackson. I wish that the author had also supplied those books prior to this one.

It's never easy for any familly member to lose a love one. In this case, Dawn Langston, the third and last woman Vanessa Jackson interviews at the Wayne County Correctional Facility, tells her side as to why she avenges the brutal death of her sister. Listening to Dawn, who is currently severing multiple death sentences for the murder of the man who tortured her sister to death, Ross Styler, Vanessa, known as "The Voice", finds herself becoming too involved emotionally and struggling to complete her task as top writer for Lib Magazine.

I'm sad it's over. I enjoyed all 3 stories. I knew this one would be my favorite. Janaya, as I've stated before, is a great storyteller. I was engrossed and engaged in the story and on pins and needles for every anticipated word. I will definitely read and enjoy these stories again and again.

This book is a gripping depiction of the darkness that good people can be driven to when the legal system fails.
