I requested this book on Netgalley becaue I love Lori’s books. And I loved this too. But what my book Alzheimers prevented me from remembering … this book has been sitting on my shelf - ALREADY READ - for almost ten years! I just didn’t remember I’ve already read it! So, now I’ve read it again. And it was really cute again.
We have the sexy, rich business man and the cute, slightly weird girl juggling 2 jobs and school. And some insta-mega-attraction. But Ashley just can’t waste time on some guy at the moment. She’s too busy with trying to not live like her parents. But of course Quinton and Ashley can’t stay away from each other. And then we also have the murderous stalker chasing us!!!! Lots of excitement for the reader and the hero & heroine until we can ride off into our forever ever after sunset! ☺
I really enjoyed this book. It’s soooo sexy – there are some huge sparks flying between those two, even before anyone’s getting naked!!! And it’s cute and funny and moving and heartbreakingly adorable and of course suspensy too.
Great romantic suspense meets romantic comedy! Just what you would expect from Lori!
Oh, one thing – I would suggest you read Jude’s Law before reading this! May and Jude and Denny and Tim are in here a lot too and those two stories kinda belong together!!!

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.
You really need to read Jude's Law first as this story starts days after that book ends. The Law Series is a wonderful, fun Romantic-Suspense Lite read. Ashley is a great heroine and Quinton is a sexy, sophisticated hero with a wicked sense of humor.
Ashley is a take charge, take care of herself kind of gal. She works two jobs and is going to college to become a nurse. Quinton is silver spoon filthy rich and in control of everything around him. He has an office where Ashley works on the cleaning crew and they have bumped into each other on occeasion. OK, they have liplocked on occeasion too. They both feel the attraction, but Ashley is leary to to how rich he is. Ashley needs a date for May and Jude's wedding and asks Quinton. He really wants to get her in bed, and she has agreed to do the deed after the wedding reception.
The villian from Jude's Law, Elton, escaped capture in that book and is back. He now blames Ashley and has vowed nasty business for her. This brings out Quinton's protective side and that sends Ashley into full retreat, until Elton targets Quinton. She loves him and does not want anything to happen to him. He feels likewise, but almost blows it toward the end.
What a fun read! Ashley was a hoot! She was socially awkward, blunt and to the point. You always knew what she was thinking and while she was stubborn, she also conceded when she knew the other person was right. That's such a rare trait to find in a heroine.
Ashley has had a not so nice childhood where her parents treated her more like an obligation and took charity from others instead of working. Because of this, she has almost too much pride to accept help and insists on making her own way. In a way, this is what made me like her character more. She was very feisty and how she handled others trying to coddle her was entertaining.
Quinton was raised much differently. He had a home with loving parents and grew up wealthy. Despite having money, he's not a snob and is quite generous. When you find out how generous he is, you fall that much harder for his character. They seemed like such an odd pairing but that's what I liked most about them.
We don't get to see their actual meeting in this book since it took place in Jude and May's story, but that's all I felt like I missed out on. It can definitely be read as a standalone. This is my first book from this author and I will definitely look into more of her books. ARC provided by Netgalley.
Review For: Murphy's Law by Lori Foster 'Murphy's Law' by Lori Foster is book Two in the "Law" series. This is the story of Ashley Miles and Quinton Murphy. I haven't read the previous book so for me this was a standalone book. This book didn't cover the meeting of Ashley and Quinton...so I assume that was in the previous book. Also know that this book was previously released around 2006. This new version does have a new cover on it too. This was a sweet romance with a determine man (Quinton) who seemed to know what he wants. A women who thought she knew what she wants but Quinton is slowly changing that. This does have some drama with someone who is after Ashley...but Quinton is trying to keep her safe. "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."https://www.amazon.com/gp/profile/A2H...http://sissymaereads.blogspot.com/https://romancebookreviewforyou.wordp...https://www.tumblr.com/blog/romancebo...
This wasn't bad and could have been better had Ms. Foster not rushed the ending. She built up the story for 300 pages and then wrapped everything up in a neat little bow in the last 25 pages. I didn't understand why she did this. It was like she had a page limit that she couldn't go over. I enjoyed the interplay between the characters especially some of the minor characters. You definitely should read Ms. Foster's earlier book, Jude's Law before this book as it explains how the two lead characters met and their attraction. This is a definite beach book. It's very lighthearted and easy to read. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick fun read.
Foster never fails to delight me, and I have to say that Murphy's Law hit the right spot. Ashley and Quinton were both characters I could relate to, even if they are very different from me. Ashley really touched me, because she was such an independent woman, but still managed to ask for help when she needed it. And she definitely knew when she should stop being stubborn, and make sure she and the people she cared about would stay safe... at least as safe as possible.
The friendships in Murphy's Law spoke to me as well, and I enjoyed wedding planning, hanging out, being busy, and how Ashley only made time for the most important people in her life. Quinton was persistent enough to make it worth it for both of them, though, and that's part of the delight I felt while reading their story.
The suspense parts of Murphy's Law were so well done, and I happened to find myself at the edge of my seat more than once. Seeing Ashley, Quinton and their friends deal with danger the only way it should be dealt with - by using security and police to help them - also made a lot of sense to me. Ashley's quick mind appealed to me as much as her humour and her loyalty. If you're a fan of contemporary romance with a good twist of suspense, this is one book you should pick up.
Murphy's Law is quite fast paced in several places, but also slows down at times. The story is character-driven, and that's another reason why I had such a good time with it.
Suits had never appealed to her. But the way Quinton wore a suit, with such relaxed ease, only amplified his masculinity.
Very matter-of-factly, Denny sad, "Hey, if you're feeling froggy, leap. It'll solve your problems, and then some."
"I was going to say full of it." She softened that insult with a smile but quickly grew serious again. "I've never talked about htis stuff with anyone before."
Murphy's Law is sweet, and a little sexy in a kind of old fashioned way. Now that I know this is 2nd in a series, it explains why I felt a little lost in the beginning. But, soon things picked up and I was able to get through it with a basic understanding.
Quinton is a CEO of a successful consulting company who is completely in lust with an awkward, march to the beat of a different drummer kind of woman named Ashley. At first she won't have anything to do with him, until she caves to her own attraction to him and agrees to take him to her sister from another mister's wedding, but only as friends, no sexy strings attached. Of course, that no sex thing goes by the wayside quickly, as their mutual attraction ignites.
There's also a subplot involving a crazed psycho stalker who is determined to get to Ashley for reasons I didn't quite understand, reasons that were probably better explained in the first book in this series. It helps the pace along, though, so I could appreciate this little side story.
I like both Quinton and Ashley, especially Ashley. She's a refreshing change. She's a 27 year old virgin who says exactly what she thinks, social niceties be damned. It drives Quinton crazy, but in a good way, and it made me love her even more. She's funny, feisty and super independent, something that all authors should take note when writing heroines. Their chemistry is sexy, but it felt a bit old fashioned in a way, not necessarily in a bad way, though.
I also like the secondary cast, especially Denny, Ashley's pseudo father. He's protective and sweet and adores Ashley, a story about him wouldn't be a bad thing.
I received an ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.
(From first read 11/18/09) Let me start by saying I didn't read the first book in the series. I had no real connection to the whole sister's storyline. I liked the Ashley character but Quinton is just a bit too much if you know what I mean. Not bad overall, but not great either.
*New review* I'm stuck between 3.5 and 4 stars. For now it gets the benefit of the doubt. Had you asked me 90% of the way through the book it would have been a solid four stars. But the last 25 pages are just so rushed and unsatisfying that it might take off a whole star just for that.
This book is leagues ahead of Jude's Law in likable characters and story. Ashley is fun to read about all the way around. And yes, you really do need to read the first one to appreciate this.
This is a fantastic book. With colorful characters that leap off the pages and antics that will have you smiling while at the same time cringing with the danger involved.
Ashley meets Quinton and it changes both of them. He is normally controlled but it makes him step away from his normal to get her to agree to go out with him. She wants security and a house and has plans that do not include any man. Quinton is different and has her questioning her own resolve. Which is the reason she is staying away from him, or trying to.
When a madman makes it clear that he is after Ashley, Quinton will do everything in his power to protect her. Just like her best friend's husband and his trainer will do as well. Going from having no one to care about her to so many people she finds herself in almost an uncomfortable position. But she'll be glad she has them soon.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: Stuck somewhere between 3.5 Stars and 4 Stars on this one
Murphy’s Law was a reissue from 2006 that was as engrossing and lively as just about anything else I’ve read by Lori Foster. An offbeat cast with ties to Foster’s SBC Fighter’s series and an opposites attract romance, this had all the elements to make it a fast-paced read.
I really got a kick out of the pairing we had here of Ashley and Quinton. They were polar opposites in most ways–except where (I think) it matters most: they both had generous, giving hearts. Ashley was an outspoken woman who danced to the beat of a different drum and who was perpetually busy between her jobs and college. She lived humbly and unfortunately had a rough childhood but she had a great outlook on life, even though she came across as brash and feisty at times. Ashley could also be stubborn as all get-out, but she was loyal to the end, especially when it came to her BFF May.
Since the first book in this series features my favorite couple by Lori Foster, I just had to listen to this book next. I am so glad I did I love Ashley and Quinton and their story kind of continues on where Jude and May’s stopped.
I love how unique and witty Ashley is and how her past really has shaped who she is and what she believes in. I also very much enjoy the relationship between May and Ashley its more than sister or best friends its true a like having someone who knows you better than you know yourself.
Quinton is so freaking cute, he falls hard for Ashley and I kinda dig that he goes after what he wants.
Overall I enjoyed their love story and the mystery/suspense was done well. There were a few things that I could have done without but what can you do you can’t love everything no matter how much you want to.
The narration was fantastic again I am a fan of Jim and want him to narrate more, more, more.
Quinton Murphy knows what he likes and what he likes is Ashley Miles, May's best friend. But Ashley is willful, stubborn and has a plan for her life. She works hard and he knows he doesn't factor into her future. Good thing he's as stubborn as she is because he wants her in his life and he is going to make her realize that she can have her future and he can be a part of it. But he's not counting on how protective she is going to be of her heart. He knows she is hiding something from him and he will do what he must to find out what it is...he doesn't scare easily and Ashley is worth it.
I read the previous book "Jude's Law" last year and was excited to get to read this and continue the story started. A really great read.
There are times Quinton doesn't care what he has to do, he just wants to spend time with his woman, “I would enjoy it,” he promised her. And he realized that he would. He’d happily help her fold clothes, cook dinner, or anything else she needed to do. He simply wanted to be with her. “I promise I’m not offering just to get in your pants again.” Quinton hates to see his girl upset, "a sucker punch to the gut couldn’t hurt as much as seeing Ashley cry. “Oh, no, baby, please don’t cry. I’m sorry.” I really liked this book, Quinton liked to think he was in charge when in all actuality it was Ashley.
Honestly, I almost gave it 1 star. The main female character was beyond annoying. She is training for a nurse and has no idea about some basic information about human body and sexual intercourse. She's supposed to be "badass" but she's really a pushover. She allows the main male character to dominate her time and her schedule.
I'm disappointed by this one. I liked Jude's Law, it wasn't pretending to be anything else than an easy read. I thought this one would be the same.
Nothing is going to go wrong. Ashley Miles has worked too hard for her independence to let some Bentley-driving hunk named Quinton Murphy interfere with her plans--or her freedom. Yes, the chemistry is phenomenal. Kind of scary, actually. But that's it. NO emotional commitments.

But he's SO wonderful--a woman could fall in love . . . How did that happen? That wasn't part of the plan! But can she trust him? Really trust him? The man is just so mysterious. There's only one solution: put it all on the line and see what Quinton does when she tells him how she feels. And hope everything that can go wrong. . ..won't.

REVIEW: 3.5 stars--MURPHY’S LAW is the second installment and re-release in Lori Foster’s contemporary, adult LAW romance series. This is waitress/student/cleaning person Ashley Miles, and successful businessman Quinton Murphy’s story line. MURPHY’S LAW can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty although some of the premise is predicated on the events of book on. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. The reader is first introduced to the couple in book one-Jude’s Law.
Told from several third person perspectives including Ashley and Quinton MURPHY’S LAW focuses on the building relationship between thirty three year old successful and wealthy businessman Quinton Murphy, and twenty seven year old, struggling student and waitress Ashley Miles. Ashley is part of the cleaning crew in the office building where Quinton’s family owned consulting firm leases space, and Quinton’s attraction to Ashley is compounded by her refusal to trust the man who is offering her the world. With her best friend’s wedding only days away, Quinton offers himself as Ashley’s plus-one hoping for a chance with the spunky cleaning lady who has caught his eye. But someone is stalking our story line heroine, and the threats against her life are becoming more dangerous and personal. What ensues is the romantic relationship between our leading couple, and Quinton’s struggle to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love.
The relationship between Quinton and Ashley begins as a mutual attraction although Ashley struggles with issues of money, trust, and low self-esteem. The trust issue comes into play several times throughout the story when Quinton’s actions prove that, he too, struggles with Ashley’s less than stellar background and upbringing. As a virgin our heroine has very little experience with men but Quinton has offered to take it slow in his relationship with Ashley Miles. The $ex scenes are intimate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The colorful secondary and supporting characters include former MMA fighter Denny Zip, Jude Jamison, May Price and May’s brother Tim from book one JUDE’S LAW. Ashley’s friendship with May finds our heroine the target of revenge when someone from Jude’s past returns for vengeance.
MURPHY’S LAW is a sweet story with a little bit of mystery, suspense and romance. The story line is predictable; the conflict resolution is quick and with very little fanfare-I was hoping for a little ‘more’. The premise is heartwarming; the romance is encouraging; the characters are animated and spirited. MURPHY’S LAW is an engaging story line with a happily ever after.
Quinton Murphy has the hots for Ashley Miles. He is rich and she is not. She has a plan that will see her secure with dreams fulfilled if she continues to work more than one job while going to college. She does not have time for romance so does not have time for Quinton. Well…that begins to change BUT there is also a stalker with bad intentions that must be found and dealt with before a HEA can be found for the two of them.
This was a quick, easy, fun and somewhat predictable read. I did not read book one in the series, Jude’s Law, and have a feeling some of the comments would have made more sense and the supporting characters would have been familiar. That said, reading book one is not essential for this story to stand on its own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensingington Publishing Corporation’s Zebra Books for the ARC. This is my honest review.
First thing to note is that this is a reissue if a previously published book so be sure you don't already own it. If you don't I recommend you give it a try. This is the second book in the series and although you don't have to have read the first book to follow along, I do think you will enjoy it more if you have. Quinton and Ashley are so cute together and even though Ashley is trying her hardest to stay away, she just can't resist him. Their story is fun and flirty and you don't want to miss it.
I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review. I really enjoyed this contemporary romantic novel. Although the pairing is unusual - Quinton is a rich, hot and sexy highflier and Ashley an innocent, hardworking girl from a difficult background, the chemistry between them is off the scale. There is an element of suspense throughout with a sick, evil person trying to harm her. The caring , protective side of Quinton was very appealing. A quick and easy read which was fairly predictable. 3 ***
I haven't read book #1 and I found my self a little lost with this one even though it's supposed to be a standalone, there was quite e few characters from the previous novel and this one seemed to follow on from it. I found my attention wondering a little, which didn't help, as characters I should have known join in the story to solve mysteries and cause havoc. A great story line concept, I'll give this novel another shot after I've read book #1 .
This didn't age very well. I'll admit YEARS ago I read this and loved it. Now I read it and it was ok. I was annoyed that the MC constantly talked about her small breast. Like, girl, it's ok. You're still pretty. I also didn't care for the main guy being so obsessed with her, but like I'm not sure why she isn't super pretty.....what? The end when he believed his uncle and then gaslight her for being angry, she was mad, that he didn't believe her. It was too much for me. He was not a good guy in my mind after that, which sucks because he seemed ok till then.
Murphy’s Law is book 2 in Lori Foster’s Law series. While it is a standalone book, you would probably enjoy it more if you read Jude’s Law first. The danger and threat from the first book carries over into this one and targets Ashley. In other words, I started reading and missed some of those important facts and really got confused.
Murphy’s Law by Lori Foster is a sexy and stunning contemporary romance that you won’t soon forget. This book is a nice, light read and it is highly entertaining!
Ashley Miles does not need another distraction in her life. Working two jobs, going to school and being maid of honor in her best friend’s wedding is about all she can handle at the moment. Yet Quinton Murphy walks into her life and stirs up all kinds of feelings. He’s successful, gorgeous and has all the right moves. Being the assertive and independent person she is, Ashley does her best to ignore his charms. Yet when a baddie from her past comes back into her life to have his revenge, Ashley realizes this may be something she can’t handle on her own. Which is a good thing, because Quinton is certain he never wants to leave Ashley’s side again.
Murphy’s Law is an adorable contemporary romance with quirky, lovable characters that set the pages on fire! Foster writes not only believable characters, but characters with great personalities. Ashley was an over achiever but in an admirable way. Her personality was easily classified as one in a million. She was blunt, brutally honest and completely adorable. If she was thinking it, she said it. It is hard not to admire a classic character like that. Quinton was the suave businessman with a heart of gold. Caring and thoughtful with a wonderful personality, he was the man of every girl’s dream. He wanted desperately to protect Ashley and take of her, but at the same time give her the space she needed since she was such a free spirit.
Murphy’s Law ties into a previous release of Foster’s titled Jude’s Law. The villain appears in both novels, so fans cautious of reading books out of order probably shouldn’t start with Murphy’s Law. It certainly can be read as a stand alone, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
There was a little dash of suspense and drama in this novel, but it was light and problems were wrapped up quickly. It’s more about the romance than anything else in this novel. Murphy’s Law focuses on how quickly and completely these two characters change each other. It’s all for the better, of course. And I can’t forget to mention how incredibly steamy this book is! Whew! These two have got it bad for each other and the reader is taken along for an exciting ride. So be prepared for a very spicy romance with Murphy’s Law.
There really was not anything I disliked about this novel. The characters were great, the story was wonderful! I started and finished the novel on a lazy Sunday...so that should give some hint to how reluctant I was to put this book down! Fans of fun, sexy and exciting contemporary romances should pick up Lori Foster’s Murphy’s Law!
Ridiculously, unabashedly, over-the-moon romantic. A lot of good humor and interesting characters. I could've done without all the reference to cage fighting. I looked it up and even small boys get involved in this! It's a very stupid, violent, so-called sport for idiot men and boys. One of the few rules is no fingers gouging in any orifice. I guess that describes this ridiculous… I don't even know what to call it.
Quentin Murphy very rich handsome blah, blah, blah. I enjoyed his extremely romantic characterization.
Ashley tall, lean, small breasted, attractive. At least she's not the typically gorgeous blonde or end, redhead depicted in nearly all romance novels. She is your typically spunky heroine that is the prototype for romance novels, but my guess is that we will never tire of hearing that. Unfortunately there is a point, near the end, where she foolishly puts herself in danger, but that is typical of nearly all romance novels.
A really nice thing about this particular romance, is that the main characters, of course, have their misunderstandings. But they soon communicate and resolve these issues.
All in all, this book does what it is to suppose to do, be a light humorous getaway. It does it's job well.
This is the second book in the series. This story continues with Ashley who is the best Friend of May the heroine from the first book. Ashley had a difficult childhood, and as a result is fiercely independant. She's studying to be a nurse, has a job as a waitress and also a cleaning job, so her plate is full. When Quinten the CEO of the office building she cleans at night spots her, he's bowled over by Ashley, but he's certainly got his work cut out, she's not interested or as she tells Quinten she's no time for him. But he's persistant.
This was another read that was just okay IMO. The villain who was a threat in the first book Jude's Law, is still on the loose and is now threatening Ashley, which in turn has Quinten in full protective mode. While I liked Quinten he was a nice guy. As for Ashley, while her take no prisoners attitude started out as amusing, it got old real quick. She became more of a shrew, and I began to wonder what Quinten saw in her. Once again Denny's character shone, and quite honestly I think I would have rather read more about him.
Ok, so this time I got 3 sex scenes. A vast improvement over the last book. It was much more satisfying in that regard. Unfortunately, I could NOT relate to the characters. At all. Not that this was terrible, but it was at least disappointing. The characters were exceptionally rich and exceptionally poor. I am neither. I can think of a few people they remind me of, but...it's just a stretch for me.
The other thing that bugged me was this author's insistence on using her title over and over again in the book. Let's do it tastefully, ok! Insert the phrase in once, at a perfectly-timed moment, and NEVER mention it again. Or instead, you can do a more complicated law so that things don't get repeated so often. Snell's Law, Boyle's Law, or Gauss's Law, perhaps? Then we can also write a book about Pascall's Law, Planck's Law, and Faraday's Law. If you can create a romance novel around THESE laws, I will be impressed. Hehehe.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
After reading Jude's Law, I was so excited to read this book and was not disappointed. Quinton & Ashley meet in the first book of the series (Jude's Law) and we see there is some chemistry between them but since that book is not about them we don't see too much of the story developing.
While this book is about them, we still get to see Jude, May, Denny, and the others we met in book 1. That's why I love a good series and especially Lori Foster series novels, because we get to have such a good look at past characters.
Ashley really does not want to fall for Quinton and certainly has every reason not to want to start a new relationship, but it quickly becomes evident that nothing will stop him from pursuing the chemistry that obviously exists between them.
As is typical for Lori Foster books, there is great character development as well as a great plot with enough action to keep the reader engaged and plenty of romance too.
