Hiding out in the French Quarter of New Orleans only made sense for someone like Skylar Livingston. Owning a voodoo shop was just an added touch for fun. It also helped with her cover, plus gave space to the multitude of ghosts in her family. And her shop was close to the cemeteries, … a very necessary part of her … hobby.
Gage Hawkins was tracking his uncle’s last movements before his disappearance hunting a special set of tarot cards which led to Skylar’s shop, Talking Bones. After a bad head injury that brought weird sights into his view, Gage could see this Talking Bones place and Skylar were special. He could only hope she had answers because he had a lot of questions …
Skylar preferred the dead to the living most times, but Gage had her reconsidering. Until she realizes something is wrong in his world, and it’s quickly overtaking hers.
When Gage’s uncle turns up dead, more than the undead are in Skylar’s world. … A killer is too …

Wonderful intricately woven story full of ghosts and mystique. Fabulous characters and gifts of the supernatural kind in an interesting setting well known for voodoo and witchcraft. I love the idea of ghosts and am extremely open minded about all things energy or psycic, I think some people possess more sensitivity to these gifts than others but do feel we all contain some level. Feelings of dejavu, of things being a bit off or premonition of something bad going to happen, I have experienced all of these. I was gripped by this and the things Skylar was able to do, it was great that Gage, as he starts to learn and understand more, also becomes way more open minded and accepting as well as supporting her. There is a fun aspect with a few of the ghosts adding banter and a little lighter note to some of the darker edgy side of the story to help balance it out. All in all I found this to be a fascinating read with a great flow throughout and plenty to keep me enthralled.
I must admit I usually read Dale's military romantic suspense so when given an opportunity to read part of her Psychic vision series it was anew thing for me and I loved it so much I went and bought the previous 20 books in this series so that should tell you how much I enjoyed it. I have to say it had a little bit of a Kay Hooper feel to it if you have read any of her books
Gage Hawkins was in a coma after a fatal car accident that killed his best friend he woke up with survivors guilt and abilities that he has no grasp of. He heads to New Orleans to search for an uncle that has gone missing and there he meets Skylar Livingstone owner of the shop Talking Bones the last place his uncle was seen while searching for missing Tarot Cards She has similar abilities to what Gage has woken with can he convince her to help him come to terms with his new life You will have to read to see
This one started out well, but kinda fizzled at the end. Too many unexplained, or rather poorly executed events. The ending felt like it was thrown together. All of the first 20 books rated no less than four stars each. I’m giving this one two-point five stars because it showed a lot of promise in the beginning (did this one bypass the editorial desk?), but stopped flowing less than midway through the story.
The mystery and other parts of the storyline are lost in the miasma of lecture. Not the best from author, is difficult to keep the focus on the read. Did a lot of putting down and picking up. Not usual for me. For me much of the story feels unfinished so I gave it 3 stars which for me means so - so.
Skylar Livingston has found the perfect place to live, work and keep her secrets, New Orleans. Her Voodoo shop has lots of things that attract the tourist's eye and keep her bills paid. It also has wall to wall ghosts who won't leave.
Gage Hawkins is looking for his missing Uncle who was last seen visiting her store. From what Gage knows he was looking for a specific set of Tarot cards. However, Gage also wants her help with something else. Unfortunately, he doesn't approach any of this in an appealing way. Instead, he creates animosity between them.
Gage was in an automobile accident that left him in a coma, when he woke, he finds he has abilities he doesn't understand. On top of that he has survivors' guilt, as his best friend died in that crash. After a conversation with his brother, he buys lunch for Skylar and returns to her shop to apologize for his actions.
Skylar is wary of him, and he doesn't blame her and they have an interesting conversation that also includes a bone he spotted on the floor he believes his uncle may have left there.
After that visit things take an interesting twist.
In spite of, or perhaps because of Gage's ignorance of his new abilities, Skylar begins to help him understand more. She still keeps her own secrets though.
There's something dark that is affecting him and they would need to find the answers to that. Gage also keeps feeding her which is kind of funny. He knows she needs energy, and she doesn't eat as much as she should.
A very unique relationship begins and as they get closer, he begins to see and hear her ghosts.
There's also an interesting connection with Dr. Maddy and Stefan. As well as the revelation of her very different ability.
I love the way the relationship develops and the way all the different threads pull together to solve the mystery.
I was very uncomfortable when first invited to review books in Dale Mayer's "Psychic Visions" series but I was hooked from the first one, the author transports you into a world of ghosts and mystique, whether you believe in the supernatural or not this is a great story. When Gage Hawkins woke up from a coma after a devastating accident that killed his best friend, things were different, he could hear disembodied voices and see things that weren't of this world, little did he know that his recovery was down to psychic healers. Gage was a wealthy businessman but he had decided that it was time to sell the business, not everyone agreed with him. Gage set off for New Orleans to find his missing uncle, his disappearance was all very mysterious and tied in with a pack of Tarot Cards. When he came across a shop called Talking Bones in the French Quarter Gage was immediately drawn to it and even more so to it's owner. Skylar Livingstone was the owner of Talking Bones but the shop was just a cover for her other activities, activities that she must keep secret. Skylar walked the cemeteries at night but no one must know what she did. Gage recognised Skylar's psychic abilities and tried to enlist her help to understand what was going on with him and in finding his uncle, Skylar was very reluctant to let anyone but her ghosts into her life, it was safer that way but Gage was persistent. This story follows the blossoming romance between Skylar and Gage, she saved his life, he owed her, little did he know that it wasn't only the dead that they had to fear. This is a brilliant story of the supernatural, it has wonderful characters and is peppered with humour.

This is the first book that I have read in the Psychic Visions series. My TBR list has just grown with the previous 20 books!
I almost don't have the right words to describe this book. It managed to keep me off kilter throughout the majority of the book. I didn't find anything predictable about it. I had to wrap my mind around some of the concepts that Gage and Skylar were experiencing. The situations and emotions Gabe encountered were completely understandable because they were so well detailed.
There was one thing that I figured out. It was only because of a statement made that caused me to realize who it was. One other thing I wanted was a bit more closure regarding what happened after the fact. What was done? How was it explained?
I did like the characters. I liked they way Gage and Skylar's relationship developed. Thomas and Elena had their own distinct personalities. There were a number of emotions wrapped up in this story.
Talking Bones was full of mysticism, mystery, danger, psychic energy and ability, ghosts, and romance. There were mentions of spirituality, voodoo, discussions of crossing over, staying behind, light energy and dark energy, anger and happiness.
I have read the Terkel's Team series which is based on psychic abilities, and energy in a different environment. This book seems to take the subject matter to a higher level. Not sure how the other books in this series compare, but I plan to read them all.
I would give this book 4.5, 4.75 stars, just because I wanted more information about the people left standing.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book received via Booksprout.
Skylar Livingston owned a voodoo shop called Talking Bones in the French Quarter of New Orleans which was located near cemeteries and fit in well with her hobby. Gage Hawkins is following his Uncle's last movements which were last known at Skylar's shop looking for a particular set of tarot cards. Gage had a head injury in the past which has also enabled him to see strange things and he hopes that she will have answers for him as the shop and she are both special. Skylar often prefers the dead to the living but Gage has her reconsider until she realises that something is wrong with his world and it will overtake hers. When Gage's uncle turns up dead a killer is also in her world and not just the dead.
I adore this series but ignoring that this was a great book. I loved the hobby that Skylar has and the way that she was quietly doing it in the background was amazing. I loved that there was a really great psychic ability in both Skylar and Gage and that the combination of them both working together was a great combination. I loved how Stefan was involved and his comments on Skylar's hobby (which was a really neat thing to do). A real mystery story which will pull you along as you try and work out what is going on and why. Easy to read and become addicted to the story and both Skylar and Gage.

(4.5) Can we please talk about this cover!!! I love it! Striking and speaks volumes. The cover just blows my mind. Skylar is our speaker of ghosts and oh so much more. I don't want to give plot away so it makes it a tad difficult. There are some very funny moments with ghosts on Skylars premise. The icing is her premise is in New Orleans, Voodoo witchery central so to speak. Gage was a businessman making lots of money and was in a car accident. After he came out of his coma he kept seeing things, not clearly, enough to make him think he was going crazy and reevaluate what he wants out of life. Tracking down his uncle Jonesy leads him to Skylar. There are one step forward two step back scenarios as they meet for the first time. The darkness that comes into play, that ultimately leads back to human, well lets just say I was not surprised. However that one led to a second and I was surprised with that. Are you confused? If you read the book you will understand and you will be entertained and enthralled with the rest of us. I love this series. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #dalemayer #Talkingbones #booksprout
Skylar Livingston lives in the French Quarter of New Orleans where she hides her special abilities. She owns a voodoo store and lives near the cemeteries where she does her secret work. Gage Hawkins is in New Orleans looking for his missing uncle who was last seen in Skylar's store. In addition, Gage has questions for Skylar. He woke up from a coma with new abilities and hopes Skylar can help with those and with his uncle. But things get complicated when his uncle turns up dead.
I've really enjoyed this series which is one of my favorites as I eagerly wait for each book to come out. I did enjoy this book although I thought the ending was a bit rushed and it left me wanting to know more. Still, the book was well-written with wonderful characters and a fast-paced plot. I was drawn into this engaging story and kept hooked from start to finish. The romance was slow-building and sweet while the mystery and suspense will keep you intrigued. I'm looking forward to the next book and highly recommend this one. I think the series is best read in order, but you can read the books on their own.
Another fav from this paranormal suspense romance series from Dale Mayer.
This one is about Skylar, the woman who's got amazing psychic abbilities that involved ghosts and energy works. She's so powerful and super kind. I admire this woman. Her relationship with all the ghosts at her shop and apartment and all the things she did for some of the ghosts that trapped in new orleans so awesome and heartwarming.
The supernatural things in this book so fascinating, so captivating that make this book one of my from this series. The nuances, the ghost, all supernatural stuff in New Orleans just chef's kiss.
The mystery pretty predictable. It's started with missing person mystery, Gage's uncle missing while searching for an old tarot cards, then everything is all about that old tarot card, although I can guess who's the culprit and there's dark enitity that goes unanswered, I still love the mystery behind that old tarot card and how this story showcase Skylar's prowess.
Family is not always based on blood relations but not many people would claim ghosts as family. But that is the case for Skylar as she has many ghosts who live in her voodoo shop. However, her life is lonely as she strives to keep her abilities secret. As the story progresses, we get a feel for her abilities but some of them aren't revealed until well into the story.
Gage has come to New Orleans to search for his Uncle Jonesy and he is led to Skylar's store as he searches for answers as to what happened to his uncle. What he doesn't expect to find is that Skylar can answer questions he has as to things that have been happening to him since he almost died in an accident.
The ghosts are an interesting mix of characters, some of whom come into play throughout the story and encourage Skylar to pursue a relationship with Gage. If you are at all open to the idea of psychic abilities, this story will have you wondering what might be possible. There are some twists along the way that you have guessing as to what the final outcome will be.
But, Ms. Mayer, I am completely at a loss. WOW! Totally, inelegant and clueless sounding, but I feel much like the hero, clueless. And the heroine, she was awesome in ways even Stefan was blown away by, and yet she is the novel. Gabe is so very important, but incredibly new to the "realm". You took this novel beyond expectations! I expect a level beyond amazing since reading Tuesday's Child, and you not only meet it every time, but blow me away. Twenty books later, as this is twenty-one, you've left me absolutely stunned. I am amazed, and of course pray for more, at what you began 11/12 yrs ago and continue to do, and never am I bored, feel redundancy when ready, and cannot wait for the next book in the Psychic Vision series. You simply draw the reader in and do not let them go! So six months from now I will be jonesing for book 22 in this series. Not just craving the next novel, but wondering where your amazing mind is going to take me next! What a stunner!
This is the first book I have read by Dale Mayer but I was looking for something different. "Talking Bones" delivered. "Talking Bones" describes Skylar's psychic ability differently from other paranormal psychic character books that I have read.. The characters themselves are interesting, and I love the friction and distrust between Skylar and Gage from the moment he walks in. As the story continues, it's unclear if he will ever get through to her. But there is something different about Gage and as you read and discover what he has been through recently, he makes sense, as do his actions and lack of knowledge in certain areas. Skylar also realizes what's going on and helps guide Gage along. The plot running through the book and the very real threat to Gage and then Skylar is an undercurrent driving the pace without you even realizing it's happening. As they grow closer and their allies rally to help, it becomes clear what the motive truly is. This leads to a satisfying conclusion and has me ready to read more of the Psychic Visions Collection.
Talking Bones is a stand-alone novel in the psychic vision series. After a terrible car accident, Gage is in a coma. His brother goes to Dr. Maddy who uses healing energy to wake Gage, but he wakes up with a side effect of seeing apparitions. When he goes to New Orleans in search of his missing uncle, he meets Skylar whose shop was the last place his uncle was seen alive. Skylar works energy and when a dark energy tries to kill Gage she runs to his rescue. Gage is fascinated with Skylar and wants to learn as much as he can about the energy work, he is now aware of. The thing that I like about the book was its examination of human nature, through the souls of the ghosts Gage and Skylar encounter. While a lot of the book revolves around souls crossing over, there is also a mystery of missing Tarot cards. I think if you like the paranormal, you’ll enjoy this book, I know I did.

Talking Bones by Dale Mayer Psychic Visions Series Book Twenty-one Skylar Livingston has been living in New Orleans. Blending in with her unique talents. Running her shop, Skylar’s Heaven, with all her “friends” hanging around. Yeah, her energy skills attract all the local ghosts who hang out in her store. And most nights, she’s busy, too. Visiting the cemeteries, helping lost souls. Gage Hawkins came to New Orleans to find his uncle. Jonesy had disappeared a few days before; last they knew, he’d been in Skylar’s store. He was hoping she’d know where Jonesy was. Gage had almost died, but he survived…taking on some unique gifts as he returned. He quickly realized that Skylar could help him with his “new” life, only she’s very private. Several things are going on to create another page-turning book in this series. **Mild sexual content and language https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
First let me say that I eagerly look forward to reading a new Psychic Visions book every 6 months or so and I've already the next book. The books are so imaginative and thought provoking that I find myself considering various aspects of the stories days later. "Talking Bones" is no different. There are three subjects in this book that I find very interesting...the Tarot Cards, Before and After Death Reincarnation and Human Motivations. The thing missing from my list are the Talking Bones. I am baffled and disappointed by what I consider the only passing reference to talking bones. I guess I wanted more about the talking bones. What purpose did they serve in this story other than a clever title? Otherwise, this was another fascinating Psychic Visions book. Enjoy!
Skylar owns a paranormal themed bookstore and she is surrounded with ghosts in her store and even has one in her apartment just above the bookstore. I can’t tell you if she has a title like medium but she is so advanced she can help spirits go to the light. Why are they still in her store you ask well, they love her and are having too much fun
Gage is a really rich guy who comes busting into Skylar’s asking if she has seen his uncle who wants to buy a deck of old tarot cards she has. Oh,and btw Gage was in a really bad car accident that Dr Maddy and Stefan were called in to save his life. When he wakes up from his coma he has some paranormal talents.
This story has a lot of twists and turns. It also gave me lots of new info about “crossing over”. Good story.

I loved Skylar and totally agree with the whole wanting your own space, but needing the money for bills and her friendship with Tomo is sweet yet so sad with she knows. Skyla has a lot of mystery around her that you get glimpses at and when she meets Gage not on he, but you are intrigued by what Skylar has to say and what you learn. I was hooked from the get go and needed just as many answers as Gage and when things all start to unfold along with come together make it a page turner then throw in some sweetheart ghosts that live in Skylar's shop (because they choose to not because they have to!) who nudge her towards Gage and you wont be disappointed with this read.

I absolutely loved reading Talking Bones . It's a amazing psychic thriller . The characters are so interesting and unique. I could not put this story down . Skyler Livingston owns a Voodoo shop full of ghosts she communicates with them . There is definitely more to Skyler than people realize . Gage Hawkins arrives at Skyler's shop looking for answers about his Uncle who has disappeared . As Gage looks for answers he and Skyler grow closer and so does the danger . This story is so intriguing and definitely Suspenseful . A Sensational story . These stories in this series just get better and better . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

Skylar owns a Voodoo Shop which is interesting in itself. She has managed to develop her talents alone to a very high level. Because of this she gets along better in the spirit world since she can accomplish what she is meant to do here. Gage wants her help but needs to get close to her and her world and as such she is drawn into his world as well. Betrayal, distrust, and love all enter into this story. Both Gage and Skylar get help with their special talents and it was fun to see Dr. Maddie and Stefan again return to help. I really enjoyed this interesting and well written story. Was fun to visit another tale about "Psychic Visions".

Gage walked into Skylars shop with wind following him Skylab wasn't happy because she wasn't sure she liked his energy. When he asked about his uncle he was demanding an rude. She said she didn't know his uncle when he said he was in her shop the night before.asking about some tarot cards. Then she said she told him she didn't have those tarot cards an he left. There are so many unusual forces attacking Gage she has to save him as they got to know each other they started getting along. Will they fall for each other? Will they find Games uncle? Will they find out who is trying to hurt Skylar? There are so many twists an turns to this story you will be riveted until the very last page an leave you begging for more.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.
I loved this book! Skylar Livingston might just be my new favourite character in this series. She's smart, courageous, and strong. Skylar's honesty, strength of character, and moral compass make her easy to like. She comes across as snarky, but that's to protect herself from all the naysayers, and people who think she's crazy when she reveals the things she's capable of. Then Gage shows up, looking for his missing Uncle Jonesy. Skylar needs to protect herself from Gage finding out who she is, but he's persistent, so it's not an easy task. Intrigue, drama, and romance thrown in kept me up all night reading with zero regrets. An outstanding read.
I really love this series, you never know what to expect. If you are a fan of Kay Hooper I hope you'll give this series a go. Gage woke from a coma caused by a serious accident. He was a different man, he could see things not meant for the human eye. Skylar has a store in New Orleans, the last place that Gage's uncle frequented before his disappearance. She has abilities of her own, an extremely powerful woman. He is fascinated with her but can he accept everything that is hard to believe. Their lives could be in danger over an object his uncle was looking for. Once again this author has brilliantly penned a wonderful story, I couldn't put it down.
Skylar and Gage seem like complete opposites when they meet, but they have more in common than they thought possible. Gage is very new to his powers and honestly they terrify him a little, he is desperate to learn more, understand more and learn control. Skylar can help him with this but she is hesitant, she has been targeted and hurt before, so trust isn't easy. But something about Gage draws her to him, there is a bond that neither can explain, they have a lot to learn about each other, about trust, about their skills and about family. Another twisted tale from the shadows that makes you question everything you thought you knew.
I really enjoyed this book, it is a real page turner. The characters are really likeable and you get invested in what happens to them. It's also really intriguing because after a car accident Gage starts experiencing strange vibrations. He goes to New Orleans in search of his uncle Jonesy, who was searching for some tarot card's to add to his collection. This is how Gage meets Skylar as she owns a shop that sells tarot card's. This is when the adventure begins for them, there are plenty of twists and turns in this book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Definitely a book I'd recommend.

This is the 21st book in the Psychic Vision series by an awesome author. And I must say this book intrigued me. This is Skylar Livingston (living in the French Quarter of New Orleans, hiding her special abilities, where she owns a voodoo store) and Gage Hawkins (who is looking for his missing uncle who was last seen in Skylar's store) story. He woke up from a coma with new abilities that he needs to learn to cope with and hopes Skylar can help with those and with his uncle. What happens next? well you will have to read the book to find out.

Love Dale Mayer's Psychic Visions series. Talking bones is another good one, I almost felt like we were just getting to know the characters and getting into their story when the book ended, though!
I definitely wanted Skylar's story to continue, it felt as though it... rushed isn't the right term.... was cut short, like she had more to do, more of a story that was left untold. She and Gage had just started and the story came to a close.
Maybe they will get a second book, I believe we encounter them more peripherally in the next book but we need more!
Side note if youre lioking for similar reads: check out Kay Hooper's Bishop/SCU series.
This is such a phenomenal series. I love every Psychic Vision book and Talking Bones is now one of my favorites. Skylar Livingston owns a Voodoo shop in the French Quarter of New Orleans and it happens to be close to the cemeteries where Skylar spends alot of time. Gage Hawkins was tracking his uncle’s last movements before his disappearance which led to him to Skylar’s shop, Talking Bones. Gage is a newbie in the psychic world and Skylar's skills are amazing and he wants to learn all he can from her. So much mystery surrounds Gage. Can Skylar help Gage before its too late.
This one goes back to being what I love about this series. Skylar has very unique abilities and I was completely invested in her. Gage tugged my heartstrings. The mystery was full of action and suspense that left my jaw hanging open at the reveal. The setting is one of my favorites. It's always great to get Stefan and Maddie scenes as well. I read this one in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for Hurricane's book!.
