A world of dragons, magic, and humans collide as they fight for survival in this epic fantasy adventure. The Legend As guardians of the land, Dragons have ruled and protected Felspar since the beginning of time. Now, the greed of humans and their lust for power has grown to unimaginable heights. Enraged that the blood of her offspring has been shed for man's gain, the Legendary Dragoona is determined to stop them. Even if it means destroying every last one of them. The Quest for Power Resentful of their own mortality, the Kings of Felspar have tried to harness the power of the dragons for centuries. Although punishable by death, some will not be stopped from seeking that power for themselves. After all, who would dare challenge a King who holds such supremacy? A New Lineage As the Kingdoms of Felspar are plagued by the wars of men and dragons, a new bloodline is discovered. An abomination produced of both human and dragon blood. A bloodborne child strong enough to survive infancy with the traits of the dragons was unheard of before now. Could this new bloodline be the link to bring peace to Felspar, or will it be the end of all mankind? Felspar is a novel about a realm of dragons with elemental power that is coveted by men who wish to possess it. Most will stop at nothing. Those that have the bloodline think it a curse, some think it a gift. Some would even go as far as believing it is their duty to protect it. This is a magical realm where dragon's, half-bloods, bloodborne and human battle for peace, power, and unity. Until a peacekeeper was chosen by fate to control the dragon spirits within. If you love stories about a world of dragons, magic, and humans, Watch them collide as they fight for survival in this epic fantasy adventure.
I was an ARC reader. Kingdoms of Felspar is the first book in a new fantasy series by MJ Spires about a young and very powerful bloodborne named Storrm. It's a fun, short self-pub book about dragons and family and saving the world. The story lays out a lot of her family history (which is very plot relevant), particularly her mother's history, and it follows her into her teenage years. Along with Storrm, the story follows (to a lesser degree, but he still has a large presence in the story) the background of another important bloodborne character that (without spoiling anything) will clearly become more important as the series continues.
I found the writing would get lost in the details of what characters are doing periodically, but there were also little gems in interactions between the characters. Overall I think the characters are each distinctive and have a life of their own, and the worldbuilding is unique and interesting. The world was once ruled and watched over by dragons and humans worshiped them as gods, but there are multiple different perspectives on this history and what it means to the present people living in this world. Those varying perspectives make it feel like a living world. I was occasionally confused by timelines, but not in any way that made the story itself unclear. The dragon magic is unique and really gets used, it's more than just flavor text, the different types of magic are used in ways that couldn't be replaced by other types of magic, so its a magic system that definitely takes advantage of what magic has been built into the world.
One weakness of self-pub books that I'm always weary of is authors who treat women in the stories like objects, get weirdly sexual with descriptions, and/or include uncomfortable sex scenes, and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that The Kingdoms of Felspar is not like that. The women in the story are people with their own motivations, goals, and dreams, be they good or bad.
I was an ARC reader. Loved this book! It's full of wonder, fantasy, good vs evil. There are parts where you really see and feel humanity plagued by wrong decisions. Then, there are the parts where magic and love prevail. It's a good read, start to finish, and makes you want more. Can't wait for the next book in this series!
Fantastic read! I was an ARC reader for this book and I enjoyed it from front to back! This is an epic adventure with magic, love, tyrant queens and DRAGONS! 10/10 recommend to all that love an adventurous fantasy book!
I read the Advanced Review Copy and this book is definitely worth the read! Dragons, magic, epic battles, strong female roles, and a little bit of romance. The characters are well written, and though there are time jumps, it is relevant to the plot. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
I did not like there were to many people's pov and no breaking them up you just had to know and to many timelines where I thought I was going forward but I wasn't and killing people off that didn't need to die
