As the son of Odin's Fury Motorcycle Club's VP, Jacob "Romeo" Karolsson has a lot to live up to. Going to Ohio for club business is his opportunity to prove himself. If he does it right, he can also use it as his second chance with Sparrow Malone, the one that got away seven years ago.
But Sparrow has goals and a life of her own. As the daughter of a fallen biker, she knows a woman’s place in an MC all too well. It’s her place within the club she’s not sure about. Then Jacob rides back into town and steals her self-control, her decency, and her morals.
Amid lollipops, love letters, and a serenade, their undeniable connection draws them to each other. But their club obligations may keep them apart. In a world where loyalty is everything, they have to decide where theirs lie and what is worth sacrificing.
Victoria Jayne is the epitome of a Jersey Girl. She doesn’t [know how to] pump her own gas, enjoys pork roll, and grew up on the Jersey Shore.
She’s lived throughout the state of New Jersey and remains there with her sports journalist husband and two darling daughters.
When not writing, Victoria enjoys baking with her daughters, rooting for the New Jersey Devils, thinking of home improvement projects, and staying up far too late chatting on Discord.
Sparrow and Jacob met when they were 15, having grown up around the MC life. Both their fathers are in 1% clubs and it’s just a way of life for them. Over one summer they became firm friends and promised to always keep in touch. They wrote letters to each other and kept the connection going until one day the letters stopped.
It’s been a few years now and Jacob is back in Ohio with Odin’s Fury MC business. It’s a 24 hour ride from Montana and he is looking forward to a bit of down time before they get to work. He was hoping there might be a chance to see Sparrow again, he has no idea if she is still around but she is the only girl that takes up space in his head permanently and he needs closure.
When Sparrow crosses paths with Jacob she is shocked. She has never stopped caring about him and now he is a fully grown, patched man and damn if he doesn’t look good. Only problem is that she is dating a prospect at Roughneck Riders, her late father’s old MC. She has her challenges but is resigned to her fate to be a part of the club forever.
Jacob cannot believe it when he sees Sparrow, she is even more beautiful now and he needs to know if the connection is still there between them. Truth be told, if he could put her on the back of his bike and take her back to Montana he would. However, Sparrow has her own plans and having Jacob in town is messing with her head.
Jacob sets out to show her that he is the man she should be with. He knows her better than anyone and believes in her. The fact that she is with another guy is no barrier to him, until she has a property patch she is single. Sparrow seems powerless to resist all things Jacob and her walls are breached - several times. When the shite hits the fan, she has a choice to make and what she believes is her only choice will determine whether she stays in Ohio or leaves with him.
Victoria Jayne is a ‘new to me’ author and I was really impressed with her writing style. I haven’t read an MC story for a while and I really enjoyed being back in this world.
I did not like it and DNFed somewhere around 40% for 5 simple reason:
1.
It could be just my personal preference but a heroine who isn't too smart and who swears like a sailor on a stormy cruise will never be my jam. Ever! Plus, she annoyed me nine ways to Sunday. So that's already a huge 'ugh'.
2.
Also, she has a boyfriend. A sad, meth-addicted chap who apparently has no idea how very few fucks she gives about him.
That was the second red flag.
3.
The hero who smells like stale cigarettes and beer ain't gonna do shit for me, either.
4.
The story drags like a rag doll and for the life of me I just couldn't connect with the characters, couldn't get into the story and simply was bored outta my mind and pissed off at the same time. Also, there was no reason for a duet in this case.
5.
Waaaay too much inner blabbing and not enough interaction. Not enough action at all to be perfectly honest. And way too fucking many memories. I hate those. When you get a chunky chapter full of memories of a character you barely know or like right from the get go?? Bish, you better go hard or go home or I'll DNF you in the blink of an eye.
So summing up, no, I didn't like it. Maybe it's just me, not the book. But there are certain things I can barely tolerate in my reads and this book seems to be full of them. So DNF it is.
Jacob is the first book in the Odin’s Fury Motorcycle Club series by Victoria Jayne. This also happens to be the first book I’ve read by Victoria Jayne. This novel is told from both Sparrow and Jacob’s point of view.
OHHH! I have to say, I really enjoyed the start to Sparrow and Jacob’s story! I really loved the way this novel played out. Jacob and Sparrow met when they were teenagers. And ever since those moments spent and through all the years in-between, they haven’t been able to stop thinking about one another.
Now, years later, Jacob, a member of the Odin’s Fury Motorcycle Club, is sent to the one place that haunts his every dream. The place where he know’s Sparrow resides. But once he gets there, he’s about to realize he’s going to have a bigger fight on his hands when it comes to winning his lollipop’s heart.
My Thoughts:
I was intrigued when I first started Jacob and Sparrow’s story. I love the initial premise that came with this star crossed lovers theme especially when it’s wrapped up in an MC Romance. This premise called for a serious amount of drama…. And you all know I love drama and angst in my romances.
Jacob wasn’t at all what I expected. He’s this gruff MC member with a short fuse. HIs motto is basically, act now and think about the consequences later. He has a history of impulsivity. Once he has his mind set on something, he puts his all into gaining that something or someone. Ever since he was a teenager, his mind has been on one obstacle, that being, finding the girl he met all those years ago and wrote letters to and claim her as his. But once Jacob finds his sparrow, he is shocked to find she’s not alone. She’s still a part of the Roughneck Rider’s MC, only she’s tied down with one of their prospects…
Now let’s talk about Sparrow. This woman is stubborn to the boot. When she sets her sights on something, whether it be a person or a dream, she does everything she can to see her missions through, a trait she learned from her late father. But if her mother had her way, Sparrow would already be locked down as a club member’s old lady with two kids and one on the way and once her boyfriend is officially patched in, that’s the direction she know’s her life will take. But for right now, she’s focused on her dreams. And that involves taking an entrance exam and getting into college. She wants to have a career in business in order to help the MC with their booking, a dream her father always had for her. When a blast from her past comes riding into town, all her dreams are about to go up in smoke…. Especially when that dream consists of one male who won’t let their past relationship go and one stubborn heart who’s on board with his mission. It has to be said, I loved the fact that Sparrow has a backbone, when it’s needed. I just wish she had more of that backbone when it came to her mother and her boyfriend, Pipes. I wanted her to kick both of them to the curb. In no way were they ever supportive of her dreams and her goals. Which brings me to the reason I loved Jacob so damn much! This man was supportive and curious about Sparrow’s life outside of the club. I actually felt a sense of pride within him everytime Sparrow would talk about college. That’s the type of person she needs to surround herself with. Not some tweaker who's looking for his next fix. Jacob and Sparrow are clearly a match made in lollipop heaven…
TW: Let it be known, if you aren’t a fan of love triangles/cheating in novels, this may not be the one for you. There is a short/sexy moment when Sparrow gives in to her primal urges and listens to her heart and forgets about what her head is telling her. It’s one moment, but that one distinct moment has the ability to make or break a novel where some reader’s are concerned. I figured I’d throw that out there so you all aren’t blindsided by it.
All I want is for Sparrow and Jacob to live happily ever after… is that too much to ask!? At this moment, I seriously have a love/hate relationship with this cliffhanger. I love the fact that Jacob and Sparrow have a second book coming out… However, I HATE the fact that I have to wait for the continuation, especially given the way this novel ended…. I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book. I need it like I need my next breath.
Now onto why I rated this one the way I did. I gave Jacob by Victoria Jayne a 3 ½ star rating due to the fact that a few key moments felt rushed. I wanted to feel that connection on a much deeper level, and I’m hoping the second book will bring that intensity and deep chemistry to the front of the story. Overall, I really enjoyed this one. I just needed a bit more to tip the scales towards the five star rating.
I'm intrigued to see what direction Victoria Jayne takes Sparrow and Jacob's story. I cannot wait to continue with these two!!
This one took me on a ride, a good one, thoughI did want to toss my Kindle into the freezer a few times, but once I fell down the rabbit hole, I didn’t want to climb out until I was done. So, here I am…
Now, as this is a duet, this review will be a bit on the vague side of the coin.
Jacob and Sparrow. I really liked both of them, but they both drove me batshitcrazy ~ hence wanting to toss my Kindle into the freezer. Both are good people, who are loyal to their families and clubs. But a little young despite the world they grew up in. They both have an idea of what their futures should look like, but are also stuck because of it. From the amount of time they were actually together, I liked who they were around each other, but they have a lot more things to sort through and I’m waiting to see how that all plays out.
MC series are always a hit and miss for me, but this one is a hit thus far. The writing was engaging, pacing was good as was the world building. As for the supporting cast of characters, my fav is Dash, don’t think anyone would be surprised by that, but I’m also feeling Mooky, so toes crossed that doesn’t change in Sparrow.

Jacob is part of the Odin's Fury Motorcycle Club Series by Victoria Jayne. This story had me feeling the emotions, hanging on to every word and anxious to read the next book. Great characters, a story that drew me in, and now I NEED the next book.
Jacob kicks off the Odin's Fury Motorcycle Club Series and is a great start to this series.
When we first meet up with Jacob, he is this tough, gruff, biker who is haunted by the one who got away. Sparrow might have grown up in the MC world, but she's got goals of her own. But, when Jacob rolls back into town, all bets are off...
I thought Jacob and Sparrow's story was a solid one. I thought it was written well and def stayed true to MC rules and harshness. There were some parts of the story that were a bit rushed and would like to have seen be fleshed out a bit more.
Overall, I'm intrigued by these characters and am curious to see how their story will play out.
*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review*
3.5 stars--JACOB is the first instalment in Victoria Jayne’s contemporary, adult ODIN’S FURY MC erotic, MC, romance series. This is twenty three year old Jacob ‘Romeo’ Karolsson, and waitress Sparrow Malone’s story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Sparrow and Jacob) using present day and memories from the past, JACOB follows the second chance romance and relationship between twenty three year old Jacob ‘Romeo’ Karolsson, and waitress Sparrow Malone. Seven years earlier, Jacob fell in love with his best friend Sparrow but life happened and Sparrow disappeared without a trace. Fast forward to present day wherein Jacob Karolsson, and his Odin’s Fury Montana enforcer Dash have been tasked with checking out the Ohio chapter of the Roughneck Riders MC, a struggling MC but a club with potential to patch over to the Odin’s Fury MC. Enter Sparrow Malone, a waitress at the Broken Spoke, a biker bar owned by the Roughneck Riders, whose father was a member of the Roughneck Riders MC, and the woman about whom Jacob Karolsson has never stopped thinking. What ensues is Jacob’s desperate attempts to woo back the woman he lost seven years earlier but a woman who is now the girlfriend and potential ole lady to Michael ‘Pipes’ Barton, a prospect for the Roughneck Riders’ MC.
Sparrow Malone’s father gave his life for the Roughneck Riders MC, and therefore Sparrow considers herself part of the family. With the appearance of Jacob Karolsson, old memories threaten Sparrow’s relationship with Pipes, a man who is about to spiral out of control. Hoping to get eventually work the books for the Roughneck Riders MC, Sparrow works diligently to get her diploma, but life had other plans for out story line heroine.
The relationship between Sparrow and Jacob is one of second chances: a rekindling relationship wherein Jacob’s attempts at seduction are met with derision and scorn. Sparrow is unable to deny her attraction to the man /boy she left years before but her life is now in Ohio, with the Roughneck Riders MC. The lone ‘$ex’ scene is furious and fast.
We are introduced to Odin’s Fury enforcer Dash, as well as several members of the Roughneck Riders MC including their president Bowie, Tut, and Sparrow’s boyfriend Michael ‘Pipes’ Barton.
JACOB is a slow building story of second chances and obsession, as our hero struggles to accept that the love of his life has moved on; and a heroine who has never stopped loving the man she can no longer have. The premise is edgy but primarily focuses on Jacob and Sparrow’s backstory and current non-relationship -I was hoping there would have been a little more buildup of the MC framework for upcoming instalments as it appears the Roughneck Riders are about to implode but saying that their story has only just begun and continues in book two SPARROW; the characters are tragic and spirited; the romance struggles in the face of diverging paths.
JACOB end on a bit of a cliff hanger-you have been warned-Jacob and Sparrow’s story continues in book two SPARROW.
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trope: Second chance Angst: 😰😰😰😰😰 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥 Triggers: cheating (heroine cheats with hero), drug overdose
Lots of things I love about this story. I love that they knew each other in childhood and held a candle for each other all this time. I love the story about them being rival MCs and the drama that ensues because of it. I really love Sparrow and how bullheaded she is and how determined she is to make her way in the world. I absolutely adored Jacob. Super romantic and thoughtful, truly a dram guy. Wasn't a fan of the OM drama - especially when the OM wasn't worth her time or effort. Just seemed totally misplaced loyalty and unrealistic that she would even be slightly conflicted over leaving him. I'm also not a fan of duets - especially when they're short. Just personal preference. This is a bit more of a drama llama than I typically enjoy reading, but honestly, I can't wait to see how these two find their way back to each other.
** Included the cheating TW since so many people are so sensitive to that - despite the fact that the MCs didn't cheat on each other
Jacob is a compelling and addictive start to this new MC series by Victoria Jayne.
Victoria Jayne is one of the handful of authors that writes in third person that I have no trouble being quickly pulled into the story.
Jacob and Sparrow had a crush on each other throughout their teenage years. They were from different states and only seldomly saw one another, but each time they did their feelings for one another grew.
Now it’s years later, Jacob is in a town he hasn’t been to in years, and while he was sent by the President of Odin’s Fury, he has another mission while he’s in Ohio. He’s determined to rekindle what he and Sparrow once shared.
Sparrow has her sights on getting into school and following along with plans that her father wanted for her, but it feels as though nobody in her life supports that dream. She was no longer as connected to her father’s club as she once was, after he passed away she no longer had the “in” of being the daughter of a club officer. She worked at a bar the club owned and had her sights on more for her future.
Sparrow never expected to come face to face with Jacob again, especially not when she was in a relationship with a Prospect of the Roughneck Riders, the same MC her father had been a member of, but there were circumstances that made it strenuous between them.
Sparrow and Jacob’s chemistry was fiery from the start, and no matter what circumstances they found themselves in just being around one another fanned the flames. In the moments one of them slips into a memory of the past they shared it’s clear that what once was has stood the test of time.
My feels were all over the place, right along with Sparrow and Jacob’s as the past and present collided in good ways and bad.
I went back and forth between wanting to hug each of them and other times I wanted to knock their heads together. I was all over the place, but it was right alongside them because there were many different elements of this compelling read that made what should be a hard road to travel.
I can’t with the cliffhanger!! I’m thankful the wait for the next book isn’t too far away.
Jacob is a compelling and addictive start to the Odin’s Fury Motorcycle Club series. An engrossing blend of fiery chemistry, a possessive alpha hero, strong heroine, an array of feels, twists, steam, and a cliffhanger that will surely leave you with a book hangover.
For readers who love Christine Feehan's Torpedo Ink series, you are in for a smoking hot treat with Victoria Jayne's new MC series, Odin's Fury Motorcycle Club! I read the first two books back-to-back, so I'm reviewing them both today❣
Jacob and Sparrow met at a motorcycle club rally when they were teenagers. Jacob's father is the VP of Odin's Fury, the national chapter based in Montana, and Sparrow's father is the Roughneck Rider's SAA out of Ohio. Living so far apart meant letter writing and promises made for the future. Unsurprising, opposing Clubs don't care about childhood crushes, but when Odin's Fury turns Gungnir (okay, okay... they don't really have Odin's three-pronged spear to wield at their rivals - this isn't fantasy people!!!) toward Roughrider territory, Jacob and Sparrow meet again. Unfortunately, Jacob's responsibilities leave little time to woo Sparrow, and Sparrow's boyfriend Pipes makes reconnecting a no-no. Both books are a fascinating look into the one percenter's way of life, the rules that govern them, and the women who want to be their Ol' Ladies.
Really enjoyed this series! It's always nice to step out of fantasy for a bit. You guys will not regret a moment of Odin's Fury.
Jacob and Sparrow's story was honestly unlike any other MC Romance I've read. There is romance, yes, but not like many MC Romances where the couples are together most of the book and face challenges as a couple...or anything along those lines, really.
You see, Jacob and Sparrow met when they were young teenagers but due to their dads being in different MCs, they weren't able to reconnect until many years later. They did, however, write each other during those years apart which I found to be incredibly adorable and romantic.
Upon coming face to face, things in Jacob and Sparrow's lives were just too different. Sparrow was blindly (and stupidly) loyal to her late father's MC...and to her piece of shit boyfriend, who's a prospect. Meanwhile, Jacob was still trying to find his place within his MC. Of course, the chemistry between them was too much to deny and so fireworks did go off which had me all excited, LOL!
I would say that this first book in the series served more as a fantastic world-builder and set the pace and tone for the other installments. One thing I did really love and appreciate was the author's authenticity to actual MC life. From terms used to the overall way of life, I could tell the author knows what she's writing about. Even though I know this is a fiction romance, that was still very much valued.
If you love Sons of Anarchy you definitely need to start Odin's Fury Motorcycle Club! 4 stars!
Whew I need a minute after finishing this book. What a great MC romance! Victoria Jayne definitely knows how to tug at my heart strings as Jacob and Sparrow definitely have their fair share of drama, heart break and angst. They seriously put me through a rollercoaster of emotions. There were times that I wanted to hit Jacob over head because he acted immature when things didn’t go his way. Yet I still loved him and I was seriously rooting for him and Sparrow. I liked Sparrow a lot and I felt bad for her as she was torn between her loyalty to her father’s club versus her love for Jacob. Their story is well written, intense and the ending was unexpected for sure.
My only issue with this book is, I felt the story development and the pace could’ve been a bit more quicker. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a very good book and I would definitely recommend reading it.
I was honor to receive this book as a arc by Victoria Jayne. Let me just say wowowow😱😱😱. The charters fantastic love it. The story line amazing. It took longer , but was worth it. Jacob couldn’t stop think about his Craig when he was young. He need to go on the run to Ohio to find Sparrow. Jacob and Sparrow had a crush on each other thought out their teenage years. They were from different states and only seldom saw one another , but each time they did their feelings for each other grew. Sparrow has her sights on getting into school and following along the plans that her father wanted for her, but it feels as though nobody in her life support her dream. They came Jacob in her life and miss everything around. Love the Portuguese words. Love it so much. What you want more got to find out . Victoria Jayne thank you so much. It been truly been a honor. I can’t wait to read Sparrow book two thank you .
This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. The story has been pretty interesting and I'm really looking forward to reading Sparrow's book. Jacob and Sparrow have a unique story and getting to know them has been fun. The author has done a great job of world building. The characters are well written and have depth. I really like Sparrow, she's smart even if she's maybe placed her loyalty in the wrong place. Jacob's a little headstrong but he's solid. I love how he got his road name and can't wait until Sparrow find out.
There were a few minor mistakes but nothing that really pulls you out of the story. The only reason this book got 4 stars was it's a duet and I'm not crazy about cliffhangers. It was pretty close though. Now I'm off to read Sparrow. And I can't wait to read Dash's book!!!
When Jacob and Sparrow first met they felt an instant attraction that went well beyond their father's motorcycle club and their young age. But through written letters and lollipops the two became closer and closer. When a Jacob needs to check in with club business years later, the two reunite. But now Sparrow is not available and the man who wants to claim her as his ol' lady stands in his way. Who will Sparrow choose? The man who will get her back into her father's club? Or the man who owns her heart? With a storyline I could not put down and characters that I felt an instant connection to this was a great read. This was my first from Victoria Jayne but it will not be my last. I cannot wait to see where this pair ends up.
Childhood crush comes into the present. Sparrow's life had not been easy, being born into the MC life and losing her father. She was smart and wanted to help out her MC to prove her worth. I enjoyed her work and study ethic to get to her goal. Her weakness was her crush, Jacob, who became a wrench in the works. Jacob was driven when it came to Sparrow, finally finding her again before things fell apart. This story was gritty and steamy. I loved the different aspects of the two MCs. There were times I felt description was a bit repetitive, but I still look forward to the next book so I can see how Sparrow and Jacob play out.
I received an ARC, and this is my unsolicited review.
This is book 1 in a duet. The story has depth and the writing draws you to the characters and you want them to get past their issues to see what they both want. It is frustrating because you can see what a real conversation could accomplish if they just took the time to have one. For an MC story especially one about 1% clubs, there isn't a great deal of action in it. While Jacob's clubs' takeover is the overarching story of why they are in Roughneck Rider's territory not a lot happens about it. The story is really about Jacob and Sparrow, their lost chance at love. If you like slow burn and MC romance you'll enjoy this story.
Jacob has been thinking about one girl since he was a teen, and no matter what he hasn't been able to shake her from his mind. Sparrow has always had a spot in her heart for her childhood love Jacob but their lives were too far apart for it to ever grow into anything.
Now Jacob is back in Roughneck Rider's territory and he hopes that he can find Sparrow. Three years ago he missed her but they had been so close, he still carried the last note she left for him with him. He just needs to find her, it's time he gets a chance to see what they could be.
Sparrow has always wanted to be a part of the Roughneck Rider's, her dad's club, he had dreams for her to be important but before he could see it happen he was killed. Sparrow has never given up on her Dad's dream for her despite that no one believes she is more than a woman. Now that her Dad is gone the club barely recognises her as more than a piece. She hopes Pipes will be her way deeper into the club, when he gets his member patch he can claim her and she will be more than just a woman, she will be an ol' lady. If only Pipes wasn't so sucked into the bad stuff the Roughneck Rider's were so deep in, he could be more.
Jacob can't believe he's found her after all this time, but things don't go the way he hoped they would. She barely talks to him and when he finds out she has a boyfriend while it's a deterrent he isn't ready to give up. The want for each other smoulders under the surface whenever they are close and eventually the chemistry explodes. While for Jacob it is a taste of what he wants more of, for Sparrow it's a mistake she has a boyfriend and she is loyal but one taste of Jacob and she lost her mind.
Jacob hopes to make one last attempt to get her to come with him but when Pipes overdoses Sparrow's focus goes to him. Despite that he's not Jacob he is a Roughneck and before the bad got deep in his bones he really treated her well. Jacob's declaration makes her dam burst and she lashes out before walking away. Jacob is mad that she would choose a junkie over what he could offer if that was her choice she could have it.
ARC Review by The Dragon Den * * * * * A great start to this MC series with an ending I did not expect. Lollipops and songs and lost nights together are all but memories between Jacob and Sparrow. All those feelings and cravings are still there...clearly, yum...but trouble lingers and a story is hidden in thr background. What happened in the past that made them where they are now? And what will happen next?
I'm so glad I got this book! It gave me butterflies from beginning to end! All the characters are skillfully drawn and I found myself feeling as if I too were part of their world. The main characters' storyline is as sweet as lollipops and as bold and hot as a Harley Davidson. I can't wait to read the next book of the series!
Sparrow and Jacob. They knew each other a while back. They both were into each other, crushing like. Two different clubs, different morals and rules. Her club was her fathers. He is no longer alive. She has a boyfriend, Pipes, he was a good guy at first. He is a prospect and now does drugs. I don't like how Pipes treat her.
I’m always on the look out for new MC Series to read. This is a new to me author and this book did not disappoint. Jacob & Sparrow met as teenagers and both have been harbouring their teenage crush, but when they met again years later there are complications which keep them from reconnecting. This has literal Romeo & Juliet vibes. Also ends on a tiny cliffhanger.
Sparrow has goals and a life of her own. As the daughter of a fallen biker, she knows a woman’s place in an MC all too well. It’s her place within the club she’s not sure about. Then Jacob rides back into town and steals her self-control, her decency, and her morals. This was an intriguing read. And am voluntarily leaving my review.
Jacob and Sparrow met at a motorcycle club rally when they were teenagers. They had an instant connection. Jacob's father is the VP of Odin's Fury, the national chapter based in Montana, and Sparrow's father is the Roughneck Rider's SAA out of Ohio. Living so far apart meant writing letters and promises made for the future. They're a lot of ups and downs on their way back to each other. This story is well written and filled with explosive chemistry, all the emotions, love, and is a steamy and all-consuming page turner. Definitely Your Next 5 ⭐️ Read..
This is a well written story and I love the plot. Jacob aka Romeo met Sparrow as younger teens. They are from different MCs. A long distance relationship fizzled out. As Jacob rides back into her hometown he finds Sparrow is different. They are both changed by their pasts in the club lifestyle. He pursues her and she resists.
It's a slow burn which I enjoy but it wasn't quite the read I expected. It is written well, it just wasn't quite my speed.
I liked the story line and the characters, many times I wanted to scream at Jacob to grow and accept what Sparrow was telling him but at the same time I wanted to tell her to walk away from Pipes. For me though the sticking point was it was in third person otherwise it would have been 5 star but that’s a personal preference and doesn’t take away from the authors writing and the flow of the narrative
Jacob Really enjoyed reading this great book. Very interesting and intriguing. Looking forward to reading more by Virginia Jayne. Highly recommend reading.
Despite only giving it 3 stars (in my heart it’s 3.5), I did in fact like this book. It was solidly written with an intriguing backstory that kept me glued to the first 40%. My heart was racing, I was in my feelings, everything was perfect. Until it wasn’t.
I had one problem with this book and really one problem only: Jacob Karolsson. Jacob started out by being a biker I could get behind. He was respectful, he valued consent, he was madly and utterly in love with Sparrow. But he was also childish, angry, and down right nasty when things didn’t go his way. He was disillusioned with this idea that when he met Sparrow again everything would fall into place, that she would leave her world behind to be with him. And the second Sparrow wasn’t what he wanted her to be, all the respect and morals Jacob had flew out the window and no longer applied to her. He was a child in love with a dream.
Thankfully, Jacob’s behaviour isn’t exactly painted in a great light. The author KNOWS he’s being a childish dickhead at that point and it’s reflected in Tex and Dash’s behaviour and advice. Tex calls Jacob out on being too rash and immature, and Dash tells Jacob on several occasions that Sparrow has a life (and a boyfriend!) that might no longer leave room for Jacob. Jacob just doesn’t want to listen, and because of that everything just blows up spectacularly.
Sparrow, on the other hand, was a character that I liked. She felt organic and her goals felt real and personal. I wanted to root for her, I wanted to see her succeed in every goal she set for herself. I wanted her to be happy. Sparrow was dealt a craphand, and she acknowledged that what she felt for Jacob was a crush that turned into a fantasy that allowed her to escape her life. He was a bright spot to her when Sparrow was sifting through a lot of gray.
What I liked the most about Sparrow and her character was that her conflicts felt real. The grief she felt over losing her dad, the anger she felt towards Pipes and her mom for not believing in her, the dilemma she felt about wanting to be with Pipes despite the fact that the meth had him fucked up six ways to Sunday. Her conflicts let her feel like a real person, one I could strangely connect to. Her reasons for not leaving her life behind and going to Montana with Jacob were a culmination of all her conflicts and felt so intrinsically HER. If Sparrow had gone right then and there, it would have been a disservice to her character.
I would like to touch on the fact that Jacob’s character — despite being one I didn’t like — never strayed far from his arc or from himself. He felt just as organic as Sparrow and never strayed out of what I thought he would do or say or be. He was well written, I just didn’t LIKE him. That’s no fault of the author.
As for the writing, it was good. Gone were a lot of the similes and comparisons I’ve grown used to in MC romance. Being in 3rd person, this book felt like a breath of fresh air and a new perspective I haven’t been able to explore for quite awhile. There was only one grammar mistake from what I recall, but there were a few sentences I had to reread to understand. It was a pretty solid read.
I’m looking forward to reading the sequel, though I’ll likely take a bit of time to digest this one. I truly liked it, but it’s the kind of book I think you need to sit on before jumping feet first into the next one. I also think I need a bit of a break before getting back into Jacob’s mindset. Heartbreak doesn’t look good on him.
It’s always exciting to find new authors and this author certainly hit a lot of my ‘important must-have’ buttons; great characters—including an alpha male character and a strong female lead character and an interesting and engaging storyline.
This fast-paced story takes place in Ohio where Sparrow is trying desperately to better herself to follow her deceased father’s wishes. Living the life in a 1%er MC club environment definitely isn’t easy and having been brought up in this life she understands it well. Her crush on another club’s member’s son started when she was a teenager, Jacob too fell hard and fast. His club, Odin’s Fury MC, is in Montana, and being so far away their friendship has been tenuous at best. Jacob travels to Ohio for his club to check up on the club Sparrow’s father used to be in. Their reunion is anything but sweet yet it definitely is powerful as their feelings swirl around making things more intense.
I liked both lead characters yet wanted to knock their heads together a bit at times. 😄 Pipes, Sparrow’s boyfriend, I found to be a pain but then he seemed okay, then not. His yo young nearly drove me nuts. Sparrow definitely deserved better, like Jacob. I am certainly hoping in book two, Sparrow, they get the opportunity to realize they need each other. 😀
The look of the book is what drew me in and then I heard the narrators voice and I was gone. Jacob met Sparrow when they were teenagers and he fell hard for her on that one day. They met a motorcycle meeting and for three days they spent together, sitting on a picnic table listening to the music and talking. When the three days end, Sparrow ask Jacob to write to her; and he does. But she stops the letter, he doesn't he came back to Ohio every time he could for her. He looked for her. He searched for her. She sees him and misses him on one of his trips and he kept the note she wrote - Was that you?. He has pined for her for years and now he wants to claim Sparrow but is she really ready or does she even wants to?
Sparrow wants to be more than just royalty of the club but she is trapped between the way of the MC and her wown dreams of the MC. Sparrow thought she got over her feelings for Jacob, now named "Romeo"; and no he did not get the name from loving on the ladies. Sparrow seizes up when she hears that voice, and when she looks into those clear blue eye, she knows it is him. Yes he is bogger, taller and a very tall drink of water, better yet a few shots glases of Tequila. But Sparrow has a man, Pike, and she is faithful to him...isn;t she? Jacob remembers Sparrow...her lollipop fetish, her favorite song and wants to encourage her but she is a Rough Rider and he is Odin's Fury - how is that suppose to work.
I love that the story presents the issues and doesn't have ready made solutions. I love that it is true reflection of longiing, and uncertainty. There is the undercurrent of if they would just go back to when they were teens they could figure this out. For Jacob, Nothing else matters but for Sparrow what does matter.
I have to say that the voice of Stephen Borne is perfect for Jacob. It is rough and gruff and full of emotions. He knows when to oull back and go into inner voice mode and when to be all rough in your face mode.
I need a few days to process Jacob before I go into listening to Sparrow. The way it ended in Jacob's book I was not feeling and I feel some kinda away about Sparrow cause she is working so hard to be more but doesn take the chancxes to be more when presented. We shall see in Sparrow's book.
