For some, dreams really do come true.

For others, dreams are nothing but fantasies.

For Calum, dreams are his only hope.

Calum longs for something more than the life of slavery he has lived since the death of his parents. But recently, he’s had dreams filled with light, echoing with the voice of a mysterious entity, calling upon him for release.

When a Saurian—a huge lizard person—named Magnus is brought to the quarry as a new slave, young Calum is faced with a live out his days as a slave, or shed his shackles and embark on a new life of adventure.

Joined by his adventure-craving friend Axel, Magnus, a Windgale girl trying to get back home, and a sarcastic wolf, Calum travels through the fantastical world of Kanarah in search of a way to free the mysterious entity speaking to him in his dreams.

But a journey of that scope is fraught with danger, both from man and monsters alike. Pursued by slave traders, vengeful bandits, and the King’s men, Calum makes a series of desperate decisions that lead him to the dark and terrible places of the world. If he can’t reach the valley and cross to the other side, his quest will have amounted to nothing.

Can Calum and his friends escape the clutches of those pursuing them? Or will they be forced to brave the ancient horrors deep within Kanarah so they can reach their destination?

The Call of Ancient Light is an exhilarating coming-of-age fantasy series. It’s perfect for readers of author Will Wight’s stories, the Harry Potter books, and the Percy Jackson saga. Read this book and start a new adventure today.

Ben Wolf

At the age of nine, Ben Wolf slayed his first dragon.

As the dragon perished, it bequeathed a measure of its power to Ben.

It told him, "You now have the ability to lie more creatively than any other being on this planet--except for politicians. Use this power wisely."

The dragon died with one final puff of smoke from its lungs, but Ben Wolf lived on.

For years, Ben honed his craft. At the age of twelve, he lied to his sister about having thrown darts at a poster of her favorite boy band.

At the age of sixteen, he lied to a policeman who'd pulled him over for speeding, and it got him out of a ticket.

At the age of eighteen, he lied to himself about what a good decision it was to go to Bible college and major in Pastoral Studies (that one has come back to haunt him several times).

Given the unique power he'd inherited from the dying dragon, Ben Wolf had expected his life to look very different from how it did when he turned twenty-three.

Then the dragon's words regarding his power returned to him: "Use this power wisely."

The truth was, Ben hadn't been using the magnificent power wisely. He'd been using it for personal gain, and to dig himself out of bad situations (or, in the case of Bible college, to get himself into them).

So he asked himself, "What would be a wise way to use this power?"

At that very moment, a bus drove past the street in front of him. On its side was emblazoned the phrase, "You should write a novel!"

Having graduated from Bible college a year earlier, Ben took it as a divine message. What's more, he'd already written one novel at that point, and he'd enjoyed it, so he figured he might as well write a few more.

That was 2009. Now, more than ten years later, Ben has written north of ten books, including an award-winning children's book and an award-winning novel.

Awards are great, but what Ben has found even more reassuring is the consistently great feedback he's gotten from readers. They've raved about his work and told him he was the best, most creative liar they'd ever heard of.

So now Ben is on the cusp of making serious headway with his lying skills. His debut fantasy saga, the Blood Mercenaries series of dark/epic/sword & sorcery novels, is raking in tons of stellar reviews from readers everywhere.

And now you can be a part of his creative lying journey. If you've read Ben Wolf's work, love him as a person, or plain old just think he's a handsome guy (he is, and he is now making it known that it wasn't him who wrote this (but it was actually him)), then please review his books here and on Amazon.com.

Ben, who we swear didn't write this, thanks you.

Calum has lived as a slave all his life and dreams of something better. Calum meets Magnus a large lizard-like creature from Saurian. Calum decides to go on an adventure with Magnus and Axel and a Windgale girl traveling through a fantasy world of Kanarah to search for the voice calling to Calum. Take an adventure with Calum, Magnus, Axel and friends as they defeat monsters, slave traders, bandits and other mysteries as they go on their quest. I had the pleasure of meeting author Ben Wolf at a book festival and was very impressed with the book. I really enjoyed reading this great coming of age fantasy novel.

This book is not one I’d typically pick up but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s for an audience somewhere 21+. There’s no cursing and only one moment where there might be sexual abuse but it doesn’t come to pass. Fantasy with a boy’s point of view. It’s always though to get into a new world with new city names but I appreciate that it didn’t linger on explaining everything.

Reasons why I think an average or beginner reader wouldn’t like it is because there are dragon people and it’s just really difficult to make myself go there. I have to put on my young, fun, go with the flow attitude with this one.

It's a thrill to find a new, original series, and this one is a gem. Don't go looking for elves and orcs, here - this quest is all original, and free of the common LOTR/D&D tropes. It's a fun read, with plenty of action, and characters you won't soon forget.
And, oh joy! The author released all three novels at once! No waiting for more. Sounds good to me. Read away!

This was a book that I was ambivalent about. I liked it enough to keep reading - the story was involving me - but the character of Axel was supremely irritating and I almost stopped reading it for that reason. He never seemed to learn, and if he wasn't arrogant he was sulky. Then the violence was too much as well. So I give it 2 and a half stars.

Amazing

I absolutely loved this story. The characters are very well written and the way Ben Wolf brings everything together was done perfectly. I absolutely love the unashamed way he promoted his other books using the characters from this book.

Action Packed Book

This was a great Christian author book. Although the book itself doesn't talk about religion, there are good moral attributes in the story. There are moments of attempted SA so beware of appropriate age for this book and trigger warnings. On to book 2 & 3!
