It Calls from the Doors

Rate this book
Open the door to your nightmares.

They are the silent guardians of our inner spaces. We throw them open to welcome friends and family. We shut them tight against the darkness and trust them to keep us safe. But they also hide our true natures, ward off intruders, and seal away what can never be allowed to escape.

But, what happens when the thing that we rely on the most, welcomes the bad things in? What happens when our protector becomes the thing we fear?

Turn the key, pull back the bolt, unfasten the latch and let the darkness through. Discover 19 tales of terror and despair that lurk on the other side of the Doors in the fourth instalment of Eerie River Publishing's horror series.

Including a foreword by Dave Jeffery, author of "A Quiet Apocalypse".

♥️💙😱 Absolutely scary must read !

Doors.
They keep things out, they keeps things in.

They are our security, our barrier...
...until they are opened...
Unfortunately.

-----------

The theme of doors is a theme that I particularly like !

Here is a collection of 20 different stories and 19 different authors for all tastes, a must read for fans of the genre.

Well done to Eerie River Publishing for this fabulous collection. I liked it !

I read it for two weeks, little by little, the door closed, the light off, in almost silence, certain that something was lurking me in the dark...
Scary!

A great way to discover new authors.💙

It Calls From The Doors joins four others in its "It Calls From" series. There's It Calls From The Sky, It Calls From The Sea (You can read my review
here
) and It Calls From The Forest (Vol 1. and 2). You would think that doors are such an innocuous thing. How could they possibly be scary? They aren't a destination; Merely a threshold. What happens when those doors open to places we aren't expecting? Or worse, what if they open exactly where we are expecting? That's what this anthology from Eerie River Publishing and its authors attempt to define.

Featuring nineteen tales from nineteen different authors, this assemblage of door related horrors will have something for every horror lover. There are cosmic horrors, creature features, stories about death, and killers all fitting the door theme. As a horror fan, I love seeing how a single prompt can inspire so many different versions.

A few of my favorites:

"Homesick" by Chris Hewitt was an interesting story about a fixer upper with a door to an eldritch horror. Not only would that be horrifying in itself, this story contained thousands and thousands of doors with things behind too terrible to truly comprehend. What's worse is that somewhere within those myriad doors are her daughters.

"Who's That Trip Trappin'" by Ally Wilkes was another creepy story. This one involving an escalator. We've all had the thought—however brief—about being sucked down in the cracks of the escalator but I bet you never thought that an escalator could be as terrifying as this story.

"The Black Room" by Mason Gallaway was short but surprisingly sweet. A child goes back to the house she grew up in to face her fears as an adult. The darkness is still there waiting for her, but this time she's not alone...and that makes all the difference.

There were stories that didn't work so well for me but that's what you are going to find in every anthology—and the reasons why anthologies are so much fun. The variety almost guarantees you to find a few authors to follow. Eerie River continues to put out delightfully hair-raising anthologies with new authors to discover.

“𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙙𝙤𝙤𝙧 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙖 𝙙𝙤𝙤𝙧? 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚.” — 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙒𝘼𝙄𝙏𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙍𝙊𝙊𝙈, 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 𝙍. 𝘿𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙨

IT CALLS FROM THE DOORS is another fantastic entry in Eerie River’s It Calls series where doors are the theme that connects these stories together. Ordinary doors that take people to extraordinary places. Or, like in the case of THE WAITING ROOM, the door is quite extraordinary, but it leads to quite an ordinary place. An ordinary place that is actually well and truly terrifying. ⁣

Each of these tales, much like the doors within, will take you someplace different. Or, sometimes the doors will take you no place at all, and those doors are the scariest of all. With varying levels of spooky, each story in this anthology is unique and very well-crafted, and they all worked well together to deliver a strong message — think twice before you open that door.⁣

Bottom line — if you haven’t started this anthology series yet, do yourself a favor and fix that. Each one has been fantastic so far, and I’m pleased to say that IT CALLS FROM THE DOORS is both another winner, and a new favorite of mine. 5 stars. ⁣

It's no surprise to most people that know me that I am a huge fan of the stories that are in this book.
The collection itself houses a variety of horror from cosmic, to thriller to old-school horror reminiscent of a slasher movie.
Although not extreme horror, this book isn't for the faint of heart and is the perfect spooky Halloween read.

It Calls from the Doors is my second ‘It Calls From…’ read, and I am obsessed with these collections. This was the perfect collection to read around Halloween time, because it was spine chillingly great!

I learned a whole list of authors to add to my watch list after reading these stories. Each is just as compelling as the last. Every time I went to set the collection down to do something, I’d say, “one more story.” I couldn’t stop reading.

This is one talented list of authors who have come together with a heck of a collection. I really enjoyed this overall, and to ask me to pick a favorite story would be just cruel.

If you’re a horror collection fan, It Calls from the Doors is one you want to check out!

The ones that stood out to me were The Grand Finale by Steve Neal, The Artist is Not Present by Jennifer Quail, Hollow by Adam Douglas, Thanks for Answering by Michael Gore, and The Next Time Around by R.L. Some good stories in this, moreso than I usually find in these kinds of collections, my favorite being Moss by Benjamin Allocco, which still sticks to me like, well… Thinking of checking out the rest of the It Calls From… collections based on this read.

The introduction was well encapsulated by Dave Jeffrey. Some doors lead to opportunity but others lead to doom. Each story in this book portrayed different types of doors. Sadly, people who entered these doors wished they hadn't been so curious. Some of them were transported to another realm and those who came back were changed forever into creatures of darkness. This collection of stories is interesting, intriguing and terrifying.

This was a delightfully chilling collection. I absolutely read this with the lights on, and I may have checked the outside doors were locked more than once between stories. I loved how each author took a different direction with the door theme, making for a wonderful variety of stories that horror lovers will thoroughly enjoy. Furthermore, I look forward to discovering more of each author's works. If you're looking to keep the spooky season alive year round, then you've found the perfect book.

I wanted to love this book as much as the others I've read. Sadly, it just fell short of that desire. Some of these stories were great and others were not. I think the concept of "door" was too widely expanded into anything like a cave entrance, etc. Unlike the other It Calls From books, this one just seemed all over the place. Still, the stories I enjoyed were worth it.

Incredible anthology put out by an equally incredible publishing company. I'm a voracious reader of horror and I've enjoyed so many of their anthologies so far. This anthology had a great variety of entertaining stories by some amazing up and coming authors. Cant wait to get the rest of the "It Calls From" set!

Quick read, but a bit underwhelming in comparison to the other anthologies in this series.

No blah blah blah, listen to me from me here, nobody cares about these extended opinions anyway. I liked the stories. That is all.
