Dr. Off Limits? I have a fever and I think you might be the medicine I need.

I’ve sworn off men to focus on my dream job that starts on Monday. But my best friend talks me into a final night of fun—a blind date.

I only agree because the guy is going to work as a doctor in Africa.

It’s the best date of my life. Dr. Africa makes me laugh and swoon and I want to give him a thorough physical examination.

He turns into Dr. One Night Stand, and I’m not sad about it.

Monday morning, I’m enthusiastic and excited, until I bump into . . . you guessed it.

Apparently Dr. Africa got his brother to fill in on our date, and now I work at the same hospital as the guy I got naked with on Saturday.

Did I mention he’s my new boss?

I need to go right to the Emergency Room and find a cure for my crush on Dr. Off Limits.

The blurb sounded entertaining. The execution of expectation was less than exciting.

Sutton is a new doctor, heading into her residency program (Although, since this takes place in England, I think they term it something else. I can’t remember what though.). She’s understandably nervous about her new position as a fledgling doctor. She’s been working hard for a long time to make something of herself. She’s been on her own since she was a teenager, working as a hairdresser to put herself through medical school. She’s so embarrassed about her background. Why? I have no clue. This should be a point of pride and she should wear it as a badge of honor that she’s smart, has life experience and has worked for everything she has. But no, she feels insecure until a man gives her validation. She hasn’t had much time for herself or for dating, so her best friend sets her up on a blind date with a doctor heading off to serve with Doctors Without Borders the weekend before she starts work at the hospital. Because a one night stand is really going to help her blow off steam.

Jacob is a lead doctor in charge of the new doctor program at a hospital - coincidentally, the same program that Sutton is in. He keeps his dating and work life extremely separate. He comes from a family full of doctors; in fact, his parents are pretty famous in the medical world and one of his younger brothers is leaving to do a stint in Doctors Without Borders. This particular brother can’t make it to his blind date, so he calls on Jacob to fill in for him. Cue the meet-cute for Sutton and Jacob. After an amazing date, they find out they are in a difficult position: Jacob is the lead for Sutton’s group at the hospital. They are pulled to one another but this new relationship puts their careers at risk. Oh, whatever will they do? Go to HR and explain that they have a previous relationship? No, instead they will try to deny and hide their relationship from everyone.

Sutton bugs me. She has major skills but doubts herself all the time. And the mid-point drama is silly and overblown for what it is. Jacob bugs me. He seems pretty together but at times acts so impulsive and oddly alpha. He just isn’t consistent. I felt pulled all over the place. The issue of hiding their relationship and the childish competition between the newbie doctors was a lame plot point. No amount of romance was going to save that for me. I had higher expectations and they quickly plummeted as I read this one. Eventually, I just skimmed to the end.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: taboo: boss/employee
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

An absolutely wonderful story about getting out of your own way to grab your chance with the person who makes you happy ❤️. Dr. Sutton Scott has fought tooth and nail to get where she's at today and not going to let a man get in the way of being taken seriously. Even if that man makes her happy, is the hottest guy she's ever seen, and pure magic in bed. Dr. Jacob Cove has a lot to live up to being from a family of doctors where the mantra was "keep your private life private" and he's never had a problem before, but that was before meeting Sutton. Can these two inflexible people bend enough to make their relationship work?

I completely loved this story! Well written with phenomenal character development that made you feel like are really rooting for them. I loved Sutton's backstory and how much depth it gave to her as a character. Jacob's difficult history as the oldest child growing up with a taskmaster father was equally complex. I loved how their relationship almost had a mystical, almost fated aspect to it, but they also just had a ton of chemistry and these great conversations with each other - right from the start. I also loved how much character growth they had as they examined their own hangups and how it was hindering them. Just really loved the whole thing!

↬ If I ever participated in the 'couples who didn't stay together' trend they would get the #1 spot

↬ I remember telling myself a couple months ago, 'I will probably never rate a book 1 star again because I can also find something I like about a book.' THIS ONE NOT. I was so close to dnfing it but I was at 80% or something so I was like, let's just finish it and get it over with.

↬ THESE TWO WERE NOT COMPATIBLE IN ANY WAY, maybe in the bedroom but that was it. This writer chose the most different people and put them in a book, and sometimes it really works but not right here.

↬ I also feel like that they would not be dating if they didn't work in the same hospital. They felt something when they were working together, okay wow, but like if they didn't work at the same place they would've stopped seeing each other after probably 2 weeks, BUT because they were forced to work together they thought they had something.

↬ ALSO THE FACT THAT THIS GIRL KEPT SAYING 'oh this wrong we can't do this.' AND THEN PROCEEDED TO DO THE OPPOSITE? like girl stop, if she just said it a couple times it wouldn't have bothered me but EVERYTIME THEY DID SOMETHING, SHE SAID THAT. Just stop, run away.

↬ also lets take a moment for the fact that the mom off the mmc literally called him 'the practice child' LIKE WHATTTT.
“You were our trial run. Our first born. The one we made all the
mistakes with. You have to live with that and so do we.”

Who says that about their child...

↬ The last part was the worst words on paper I have ever read. WHAT WAS THAT. First of all the third-act break-up was so unnecessary and as an ana huang fan I have read a lot of third-act breakups, so normally I don't give a damn, I literally couldn't care less, BUT THIS ONE?? SO FUCKING UNNECESSARY IT'S CRAZY. It was too late in the book and only because she got scared for a second, she wasn't ready for a relationship let's bfr. AND IN THE LAST FUCKING CHAPTER, they get back together AND IN THE SAME MOMENT THEY GET ENGAGED. ENGAGED WHAT??? You just got back together slow down savannah.

↬ the only book I'm still considering reading is the one off beau, because I love his name and he was the only person I liked in this book.

Dr. Off Limits is a standalone contemporary romance by Louise Bay. It is told from both points of view with a happy ending.

Tropes:
✔️ forbidden
✔️ British hero
✔️ workplace

Dr. Sutton Scott is about to start her job as a fist year foundation doctor and is determined to give it 120% which means no distractions, including dating. But one last hurrah! before she starts can’t hurt, right? Especially if the guy is starting the Doctors without borders program in Africa in a few days.

Sutton has a spectacular time talking, laughing, flirting and indulging the mutual attraction with the drop dead gorgeous doctor. There’s only a tiny snag. Said doctor was filling in for his younger brother and is Sutton’s new boss. Can they avoid crossing the line or will their connection pull them together like opposite poles of two magnets?

I’ve been really enjoying Louise Bay’s novels and was thrilled when Dr. Off Limits landed on my eReader. Jacob and Sutton’s story was lovely with the perfect blend of banter, sexiness, angst and heart.

Even though they had different upbringings, both Jacob and Sutton were smart, driven and kind. But I especially liked how Jacob, not only saw Sutton’s worth but helped her see it as well.

I really liked that their connection was emotional, intellectual and physical. They had the whole heart, body and soul package going for them along with a maturity that I very much appreciate, especially given the forbidden nature of their situation: she wouldn’t be taken seriously if people knew she was sleeping with her boss and Jacob would surely forfeit the promotion he’d be working for.

Luckily for them, they also had great supporting characters that helped them in their journey towards a happily ever after. I was hooked from start to finish and was up all night reading.

i really enjoyed sutton and jacob's story and i think they're one of the most matured couples i've ever read. i loved the maturity, openness, honesty, thoughtfulness, and love between them. and this is a freaking cheesefest, made me giddy most of the time and swooning over their moments. i just loooove them and i'm here for everything in their story.

so they met when jacob stand in for his brother's date with sutton. they talked about a lot of stuff but not the medical topics, it was sutton's request and jacob agreed to it. obviously, it was insta-lust and the sparks fly between them and they ended sleeping together that night.

but come monday, they were both shocked to see one another in the hospital where sutton is starting her residency. jacob is a well known consultant and technically one of her boss to be (there are 5 consultants). right there and then sutton got pissed cuz she thought that jacob will be gone to africa, but he's standing there in front of her.

they were both shocked but still attracted to one another, they agreed to act professional and to stay away from each other as much as possible. but the off the charts chemistry and sexual tension aren't helping, so they ended up sleeping together again. this time they try to be as discreet as possible, seeing they have so much at stake when their relationship is outed.

everything was going so well, until the third act breakup. it was one of the most matured conversations i've ever read and i really admire them for doing it even though it's not what they wanted. they were miserable for weeks but of course, they found a way back to each other and how to solve their dilemma. and it was truly endearing reading them finally free to be out in the public.

This started off very well for me. I want to stress I don’t think this is a bad book by any means - Louise Bay’s writing is very strong. It’s engaging and easy to read, and I got into this book really quickly. The concept was a fun one and I was really looking forward to reading it.

However, I just found the book a bit bland as a whole. I felt like it got bogged down a little bit by external aspects that weren’t that interesting to me - there was a lot of descriptions of how the residency worked, for example. I also didn’t personally feel much chemistry between Sutton and Jacob after the first chapter or so.

The conflict between them never felt that serious to me; no one apart from Sutton seemed to care much about the idea of them having a relationship, and Sutton’s very real concerns about their romance weren’t explored fully. I felt like the book focused more on Jacob’s promotion, which didn’t work for me, as I think he had far less to lose in the situation than she did.

I just found it very hard to warm to the characters or their relationship. It was fine - I don’t actually have any real major complaints about it - but it wasn’t that exciting and I just didn’t feel very invested in the book by the end of it. I can see why people would enjoy it, though - I think it just wasn’t the book for me.

Content Notes: Boss/employee, forbidden/secret relationship, hidden/mistaken identity.

If it is one thing I can always count on when I read a Louise Bay story is that it will entertain me. No matter if it’s a standalone or part of a series, the world within the story has lead and secondary characters with such humor and wit that you just can’t help but smile throughout even when there’s conflict or angst. This particular story was low on the angst meter, but the feel-good meter was off the charts! I loved everything from the premise of the story to the meet-cute to developing romance journey and everything that comes in between! I especially loved that she wrote mature characters acting maturely. Now, you’d think that would be a given, but you would be mistaken LOL I read so many books where characters are around mid 30s to mid 40s but they’re actions never match. She nailed the age group in this story and truth be told, she almost always nails it!

As you can read, there’s no reason why everyone should not be reading this author all the time! Also, I’m gonna tell you a little secret … I have listened to just about every single story she’s written and every time that I do, my enjoyment jumps right past 5 star into infinity! The narrators that she chooses to bring her characters to life take on an already exceptional narrative and elevate it with their talent. I have yet to meet an audio I did not want to listen to multiple times! Narrators couldn’t do that if the story wasn’t already set up to allow them that liberty! FEEL ME? READ ALL LOUISE BAY BOOKS!! DO IT NOW! And start right here with Dr Off Limits, you’ll thank me later :)

Dr. Sutton Scott is starting her first year as foundation doctor at the hospital of her dreams. Her journey to become a doctor was hrad and different from most of her colleagues, so she's decided to commit all her energy and time to the work ahead without any distraction, especially the dating one. When her best friend plans for her a date with a fellow doctor, destined to leave soon, one night before her work begins she accepts and she spends the best night of her life. Little she knows that Dr Jacob Cove will be her new boss.

Sutton and Jacob were such great characters. They are determined, smart and witty. They are professional at work, you can feel their love for their job and their patients. They feel a special connection since their first date, and their fascination for each other grows day after day.
I was so curious to know if and how they had overcome their "little" hiccup that I finished this book too quicly.

It was a fabulous read that put a smile on my face. The storyline is captivating, the characters are well developed, and the writing is easy to follow.

Dr. Off Limits is another win for Louise Bay, I throughly recommend it.

Oh man, I loved this one! There is nothing like a good forbidden romance where the pull between two people is enough to overcome all obstacles. *Swoon*

Sutton and Jacob meet under unusual circumstances and assume they will never cross paths again. Wrongo! Jacob is now Sutton’s boss and let the uncomfortable workplace scenarios begin.

I love how Sutton feels a bit of the underdog at work, but ends up totally using it to her advantage. She is so much more than she thinks she is! And I loved how Jacob was so appreciative to the unique perspective that Sutton brought to work.

They were a terrific couple in and out of the hospital or bedroom! There was so much sexual chemistry between the two of them, but also a lot of humor and respect.

Totally loved this one and wholeheartedly recommend.

Loved this book. Sutton, a hairdresser who has made it into medical school. She knows how to fend for herself. But, she has trouble in believing in happy endings. Jako, of the illustrious Cove family known in medicine, has a hard time learning to be flexible. He has a plan in place and rules to follow. His brother asks him to step in for him on a blind date as he broke nose. So this is how
Sutton and Jakob met. Lots of true feelings, true hospital scenes, true life questions. Fun read!

Very cute with minimal drama and the elusive “man changes his life to be with her”. 🙏

Jacob is sucked into doing a favor for his brother: Take out his blind date. He’s not really in the mood, but being a good sibling, he obliges his brother and meets Sutton at a trendy restaurant.

Sutton isn’t really interested in dating, given that she just put herself through medical school and is about to begin a challenging residency. Her focus is her career and being taken seriously because she didn’t get to where she is the conventional way.

But when these two meet their chemistry is off the charts. Their attraction is so palpable and it’s no surprise when they fall immediately into bed. It’s only meant to be a one night stand, so where’s the harm in that? Except when Sutton meets Jacob, who she believed to be his younger brother, at the hospital where she’s about to begin her residency. And he’s a department head. And she’s randomly chosen to be in his rotation.

What follows is a push and pull of angst and longing. Both of these characters has solid reasons for not wanting to be in relationships and both struggle to keep control of their longing. The back and forth, the constant should we shouldn’t we is palpable and creates a thrum of tension that’s sublime. You want these two to figure it out and get together in the worst way.

I love that Sutton is strong and self-assured but is also vulnerable. I love that she pushes herself to make her life better and that she’s unashamed of where she’s come from yet still understands and fears the weight of societal biases. She’s sharp and smart and driven.

Jacob is also driven and he’s focused on the next logical step in his career. So, being with a student would be a dangerous position for him. His whole life is his work and his advancements and he’s never considered an alternate path.

Without being spoilery, I love that Jacob is the one who alters his life for Sutton. Far too often we see the FMC moving to that small town or giving up her career or uprooting her life to make herself fit into the MMC’s world. I applaud Louise Bay for flipping the script here and making Jacob figure out how to be part of Sutton’s world.

Can’t wait to see where this series will go next!

This was cute. I really was all in and then that stupid third-act breakup happened. I really felt like it was unnecessary. There was a lot of assuming going on in this one and it was all for nothing.

I do think that these two were good for one another. It was nice seeing Parker and crew from the Mister series. Also Nathan and Madison. I knew when they came on the page, I'd seen them somewhere else before.

✨¡¡¡MADRE MIAAAA LAS CHISPAS QUE HAY!!!😍🥵🔥 cita a ciega va y sonrisas bobas vienen y ufff electricidad a punto de causar explosión😏🤯.

Overall: 4.25/5
Spice level: 3/5
Tropes: doctor romance, boss/employee, millionaire

So, I wanted to start by saying while I enjoyed this book, it wasn't my favorite of Bay's. That being said, I really loved the characters.

Sutton was smart and brave and so resilient. I appreciated how the author gave us her back story to portray that strength and resilience. And she was unapologetic about who she was and how she got to her place in life.

As far as Jacob, for a man with money., notoriety and model looks, he was such a humble man. And Bay did a great job of showing us that being the eldest of 2 renowned doctors puts a lot of pressure ro succeed on that name and build a legacy. She showed us how it forced Jacob to work hard but also how it forced him to need time to decompress away from life's stresses.

I will say their chemistry could have been a little better. It wasn't bad but it didn't feel tangible enough for me. Their near-end reunion and declaration of love felt a little forced and unnatural.

I will say though, I enjoyed the plot and the pacing as well as the supporting characters. They helped round the story out nicely.

Boring. I got into reading it because it really sounded funny and romantic. It was none. I should have read reviews before starting reading it blindly. I agree with one reviewer who said it feels like a adults’ diary skipping the mundane and describing their work place, their job and private lives and … the time jumps. Infuriating. And another reviewer said there was too much description and wasted chapters of a resident work in a hospital. I don’t care about medical procedures detailed in a romance book. Because the author in this one completely forgot about the romance part. I cut my losses at 69%. You know what they say about high expectations.

DOCTOR OFF LIMITS hat mich gut unterhalten.

4 Sterne

Unexpectedly sweet and wholesome! I loved Sutton and Jacob's story, especially because it was such a *love* story. I'm usually not the biggest fan of insta-love but Bay manages to write their insta-love so convincingly that I couldn't help but root for them.

Jacob and Sutton face the typical Grey's anatomy problem, namely "I don't know how all these people manage to fuck their superiors" and while I've read it a dozen times, it's still always fun! The conflict! The drama! You just gotta love their suffering.

There's a lot of introspection on both of their parts concerning their jobs and careers and trying to figure out if it's really *that* bad to fuck your superior and it got really deep at times (I know, I know, just believe me), so their HEA was something they really worked for.

Definitely one of my new favourite medical romances.
