I love how all Katie Berry’s books are starting to link together into an ever greater plot within plots. I’m loving every book she put out and this was an amazing book all on its own. Can’t wait for the next books in this series!!!! Definitely recommend these books to others.
This book was a great addition to the first. I love how it incorporates all of the books together. If even for a small second, it adds to the storyline so much more. The author has done an amazing job as always and I continue to look forward to the rest of her book. The Lively Deadmarsh series included.
After reading her debut novel, CLAW: A Canadian Thriller, I became a huge Katie Berry fan. The book had fantastic atmosphere and had an excellent storyline to boot. Katie went on to write the ABANDONED series, which I was critical of. The storyline was superb, but I was irritated by the juvenile conversation between the two main characters. I was also unhappy that the story was broken into four parts which made each book appear more a novella than a novel. I read the first two books in the series and decided not to continue any further. I was not get invested in the characters as the stories were too short. Frankly, I couldn't remember any of the characters' names when I started reading the second book.
This brings me to CLAW: Resurgence. I picked up the book from Audible with a bit of hesitancy due to my frustration with the ABANDONED series. However, I should not have been concerned. I immediately "reconnected" with the characters. They were all there: Austen, Christine, Trip and, of course, the nasty monsters.
So, why does the story not get five stars? Well, firstly, the book is not quite up to the standard of the first book in the series. Don't get me wrong, it is great, but the novelty has worn a bit. It was also not as atmospheric. The first book in the series had me shivering down here in warm South Africa - this book not so much so. Secondly, the same criticism I have for the ABANDONED series also reared its head here. The dialogue, at times, is terrible. It is filled with cliches, and all the characters are simply too "nice". Even when things are turning out badly, the characters still have time to come up with quips. The dialogue portrays them as overly friendly. The narrator, Alex Know, is brilliant, but to some extent, he exasperates the issue with the voices that he uses for the characters. The final thing that I didn't enjoy was how the characters kept talking to animals and other inanimate objects. The characters talk to bears, guns, cars, snow-ploughs, etc., as if they are human beings. One or two of these incidents is okay, but the extent was too much.
Will I read the next book in the series should there be another? Of course! I only wish Katie could tighten her dialogue writing to match the gritty and scary storyline. It is frustrating to see such a talented storyteller erode the quality of her books by poor dialogue writing. But keep them coming, Katie. I can't wait to see what happens next in Lawless.
The town of Lawless just seems to be a nice quiet place to live till it isn't. After surviving an earthquake and a giant bear attack thing look good for the town. Only this time the attack on the town comes from dire wolves, a saber-toothed tiger and another giant bear. There is not a lot of gore in this story, but that seems to work just fine. The characters development is very good. Although they may seem to be the usual tropes you find in a lot of these story I think you will like them even the bad guys are interesting to a degree. If you like a fast paced story that draws you in. Then this one to read only one thing more to say this isn't the end of the story.
A very good read about the weird arrival of prehistoric animals that got a taste for people Along with bad guys going crazy with gold fever that made them ideal meals for big animals Finally got a reason why they were here. Now, waiting for the next episode of the lovely town of Lawless
The plot and suspense are top-notch in this sequel novel. Just hop right in without having to re-read the previous novel at all. The storyline takes right up where the previous one ended. A few different creatures this time and of course new greedy town folk. A budding romance takes shape amid the chaos of snowstorms and animal attacks. And based around man's need for gold and the search for it. A thrilling read from beginning to end, with a couple of plotlines, left open-ended for the next novel in this series
If I had known there was a sequel, I would have read this ages ago. This second book takes the time to remind you what happened in the prior book. The likable cast of characters is back. So are the prehistoric mutations. Katie Berry knows how how to descriptively write about monsters. She also knows how to give you a reasonable explanation as to how they came to be. Looking forward to reading the rest.
If you have ever wanted to enjoy BC , this is the book that will make you want to move this beautiful country. It has a few drawbacks , such as large kitty's with 12" canines and wolves of the Dire kind. As long as you pack a few large firearms and some c4 you'll be fine , really. Did I mention the bears?
In this installment life is being rebuilt in Lawless and life appears to be returning to normal. The survivors bonded as they do when sharing experiences that test their mettle. The town of Lawless, as a result of the town's losses, has many changes. Austin is now the mayor and Tripp is head of public works. Jerry is now a tenured professor; the new Chief of police is now Fred Paulson. Alex has a girlfriend that answers to Trudy and Geraldine is just fine and dandy. All seems to be well in the world of Lawless. Until Another quake pays a visit.
Manny’s older brother Angel comes looking for answers about his brother. The casino is taken over by Ethan Chance. Son of Angus makes an appearance and is one angry prehistoric child, he is joined by a Smilodon traveling with her two wee ones and just to round it out toss in a pair of Dire wolves, one of which bites Willy Wilson Jr. As to what is going on with him, the next book should fill that gap in.
Cleaning up brings some interesting discoveries from hidden rooms that have journals and maps along with, of course gold. The most interesting of all is the symbols that Alex and Trudy find. These point to yes, the mysterious Mr. Sinclair, so I wonder how this connects to events at the Sinclair resort. As with all of this author’s books much is going on and secrets abound. The web of intrigue that runs through Resurgence leaves one with more questions than answers. How does the past history of this town impact the present, what connection does it have with the events of the Sinclair Resort and how does Caleb Cantrill fit in.
I am completely hooked on this series and highly suggest that if you read and enjoy a tale that keeps you wanting more, pick it up and read. Also I will once more encourage you to wander over and get lost in Abandoned
On a sidebar I do think a book entitled "Darwin's Herd Thinners'' would be popular.
The first book in the series was built up has everything slowly reached a crescendo of meaning, but this one it felt like two spread story layered on top of each other from the group dealing with the ancient animals and the people after the gold.
I really this series an I get the pat you give a breath of life to each chacthers but giving too mugh development can drag a story down like how you added a super-naturalist angle to the direwolf bite was kind of out of left field. That I did it see it coming or find any enjoyment from it.
I hope you keep the story more contained in future chs.
Author Katie Berry has struck “GOLD” again with the sequel to her first Claw book. Action, suspense and drama all keep you on the edge of your seat. Not to mention the greedy citizens who just care about scoring all the gold! Can’t wait for the next book in the series!!!!
It was pretty good. Very predictable. Like the ancient animals bud why was everyone so nonchalant about prehistoric animals running around? And why do authors and directors of film never want to kill off any main characters or their kin? Even the stupid acting ones. I will read the prequel books so I will keep at it. I just don't like everything so predictable I guess. I enjoyed the first two so I will finish it out
I would recommend this book to anyone fascinated with ancient animals and what they could do if let loose in today's society. Interesting. Thanks!
Okay so I am officially a fan of this author, Katie Berry. I absolutely have enjoyed the past 2 books in this series. Claw is a horrifying and thrilling ride for sure. I loved the characters in this book, and I enjoyed the fact that there were a few different points of views to read from. I like that I get to see how things look through other people's eyes. These books kept me on the edge of my seat. I mean OMG creatures from the ice age coming back to live after they've been thawed out in some mysterious cave with a weird underground lake in it. Of course, the Cave also is home to a huge amount of gold ore. Everyone wants a piece of that pie. Austin Murphy and Christine Moon are finally getting together and seeing where their relationship will take them, and I am really excited about that. They deserve happiness. I can't believe all of the horrifying creatures that came out of the cavern in this book. I was expecting the big Bear but dire wolves, sabretooth cats, and etc., oh my! This was a hell of a ride and I enjoyed it greatly.
great follow up to the first, one nitpic. at one point alex and his girl friend see A body in a cave but the next couple of paragraphs refer to it with the plural pronouns like their and they. reading the prequels now
This is the sequel to Claw. I found this story to be exciting and easy to read. I couldn't put it down. It's very well written and action-packed. I can't wait to read more of this story -line!
Thoroughly enjoyed this one! I found Claw a few months ago and was delighted to discover the sequel. Well written, with mystery and clues to future books. Very much looking forward to the next one!
I’m absolutely loving this series. Both the ones set before the founding of Lawless, and after. This one is set almost a year after Angus and friends caused havoc in Claw, and it’s fun to see how the characters are doing. There are bloody kills and surprisingly cute critters. I highly recommend these books and the Lively DeadMarsh books that are set in the same universe.
This book was really good, it was a really good continuation of the first book in my opinion. I love the development of the MMC and the FMC, and how they are taking the next steps in their relationship while they are fighting more prehistoric creatures! I enjoyed the reemergence of one animal with a taste for vengeance 🤩 the only bone I have to pick is the slight cliffhanger about Willy! What happens to him?? Is it in another book? My curiosity is straight killing me! What about the kittens? Ahh!
This was an interesting sequel to the first Claw novel. The introduction of new characters and new monsters offer some interesting new developments for the returning team of characters from the first novel. Overall, this book provided a very enjoyable experience.
Wow! Another action packed book from Katie Berry. With two more prehistoric animals in the book there is plenty of excitement and action in this book. The book ends leaving out ready for the third book in the series. If you enjoy gory action packed books. Katie Berry is the author for you. With gave characters from the first book and some new ones. This book kept me booked from beginning to end. I feel in love with the little rescue dog Trip rescued called Spider. Reading the third book straight away, can't wait.
This book was so easy to get into after turning a few pages. I quickly remembered the characters from the original book. I loved how this book was just crammed with exciting developments. Just loved it
