Cat Darling has worked hard to make a name for herself, and build a brand, as the best graphic designer, for Seattle sporting brands, until she is abruptly released from her position a few days before Christmas. Taking solace in the fact that she has a ski trip planned with her boyfriend of two years, she comes home to find that not only did he leave without her, he has broken up with her. A night on the town triggers a series of events that lead to Cat spending the holidays at a friends cabin on Lopez Island. Unfortunately, the cabin is already occupied by the dark and devilishly handsome Kirin Anderson.
Kirin has his own reasons for spending Christmas alone and Cat has put a major wrinkle in his plans for solitude. As Kirin tries to navigate his instant attraction to Cat, he must balance her request to be alone, and his need to keep a secret. His care for Cat, and encouragement of her new life direction pulls Cat in, and she finds her heart at a much greater risk of breaking.
at's Christmas is off to a terrible start as she loses her job and her boyfriend dumps her on the same day. She goes to a friend's cabin for Christmas to lick her wounds and hide from the holiday that will make her feel even more alone. But wait, there's a hot guy also staying at the cabin. She's ready to leave but they get snowed in. Now she has to spend more time with Kirin than she wanted. It works out well in the end.
While Snow and Mistletoe may be far from my usual fare, the author's clear intimacy with the greater Seattle area gives this tale a sense of being properly 'lived-in,' in such a way as to yield not only a rich setting, but vulnerable, near-unconscious introspection in Cat. The dialogue has life and the interplay between personalities is a lot of fun to watch as the plot thickens, then resolves. Enjoy folks, from an up-and-coming author, this is a fun ride!
Received free copy of this Christmas story. Lovely holiday romance. Just the thing to read after finishing master’s degree. Thank you for sharing your talent with us, Rie!
2.5 stars. I was able to read this book because of a Goodreads giveaway. This was a cute, easy, Christmas time read. I would have enjoyed more character development, but the story kept me interested. The “twist” was a bit ridiculous, the ending was very abrupt, and the epilogue was unnecessary. All that being said, I did have fun reading this one.
A cute short story. Cat loses her job and then her boyfriend breaks up by email. She calls an old friend and she tells her to go stay at her cabin. She gets there and its occupied by a friend of a friend of the husband. Sparks fly, but Kirin has a secret. Can Cat get past it when she finds out?
Laugh out loud funny! Cat is such a hot mess and Kirin is super sexy! This novella is quirky, sexy, all the feels kind of Christmas book I love. A surprising twist makes for an adventurous end, and you will be rooting for Cat's happy ever after.
Cat is looking forward to Christmas until she has a double disaster on the worst day of her life. Can it only get better or could more go wrong. A short entertaining Christmas story for your Christmas in July reading. Don't you want to know if Cat will spend Christmas alone?
This author has some really great talent at writing heartfelt books that keeps you guessing what will happen next. I absolutely enjoy reading her books, and you won't be disappointed in Snow and Mistletoe. I hope that you enjoy this book as much as I did. It will make a great movie someday.
Enjoyed reading about Kirin and Cat. Cat is a strong character that gets some hard knocks right before Christmas. Wonderful read. I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
Sometimes you need to get away to recover from a bad breakup. Cat was ready to hide away at her friends cabin. Kirin was trying to find peace and quiet. What happens when two single people find themselves snowed in together.
This book caught my attention right away. I loved the story line. My only complaint was I thought it was to short, I wanted more. Overall a great and awesome book.
Very good short read! Perfect amount of real life mixed with boy meets girl and falls in love. The characters are well developed and believable. It was a fun PNW setting with the Islands, seaplanes and a “cabin”. I enjoyed every minute of this book.
Cat has had one hell of a bad week. First she is let go from her graphic designer job days before Christmas. But she can take solace in getting away from it all for a few days on a ski vacation with her long time boyfriend. Nope, that Dear Jane letter squashes that dream really quickly. She heads out on the town and promptly pushes her pathetic life into a new low. With no options and wanting desperately to be out of town for the holidays to spare the family “we’ll take care of you” agony, she phones a friend she’s lost touch with over the years. Finding out they have a rental on Lopez Island she can use she heads out to get away from it all. Upon arriving at the rental late at night, she is promptly tackled to the ground.
Kirin has no idea why this person, who he now knows is a female, has entered into his rental so late at night without permission. Once he gets a good look at her though, her breaking and entering is the last thing on his mind. Hmmm this could be a good distraction for him. He headed to Lopez Island to get away from a pretty stressful situation and to be alone. But seeing Cat, alone is the last thing he wants right now.
Cat and Kirin figure out there has been a mix-up and both husband and wife lent out the cabin for the same time period. After a snowstorm strands them both, they decide to make the most of it. Attraction aside, they need to be able to get along to share the space. He helps her figure out what she wants to do in her future and encourages her to broaden her thinking and faith in herself. Will she be able to resist his charms?
Great first read from a new to me author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy without expectations. It didn’t knock my socks off per say, but it was solidly written and a good introduction for me to the writing style of this author.
